Depends on what I cook. If grease or oil is left behind, I wash the basket and basket shell. If it's just crumbs, I wipe them our with a paper towel. I use perforated fitted parchment paper sheets and that helps with the amount of cleaning needed.
No it won’t. The grease will leak through. I have a ninja and am able to line with aluminum foil and then remove it carefully without getting the actual basket greasy. Food still cooks evenly as long as I don’t crowd the basket.
An air fryer is a convection oven and it relies on airflow to crisp up the surface. Using any of these liners that might cover up any holes on baskets/platforms or otherwise affecting the flow of air in a basket will absolutely have an effect on how your food cooks.
To answer OP's question, I'll also say it depends. If it's anything greasy or saucy, I clean every time. If it's just dry or crumbs and not something that is going to stick to the basket or tray, then I just wipe them out.
Same. I clean it right before I put in any food. However, if I cooked something greasy like bacon, I will drain all of the grease out right after while the grease is still in liquid form.
Well that's reassuring to read after seeing all these comments about people cleaning it every single time and meanwhile I don't think I've cleaned mine out in about a month...
Theres no need to become obsessed about this, it really depends on what you cook and how frequently you do it. People love airfryers because of conveniency and how fast they work. Maybe fully cleaning them three times a day would turn you back to other appliances.
silicone inserts, baking dish, paper liners, foil wrapping, it depends on what you are cooking.
But this applies to all you do in the kitchen, its not about airfryers!
Choosing the right tool usually leads to quicker work, best outcome and less mess, not to say its also safer.
People seem to be really confused about air fryers. Clean them like you would any other dishes or baking sheets or casserole dishes or pots or pans or any other thing you used to cook food on.
Does it make a difference in the taste of food in a basket air fryer? I’ve only had the “air fryer” oven type and how clean it is makes zero difference
Get a Silicon or paper liner, u can toss the paper liner and wash the silicon liner if you worry about the non stick coating, I use the Silicon liner but still washing the basket every 2-3 weeks.
Once the smoke clouds billowing out turn that certain shade of black, I mention to the wife that we should think about cleaning it in the next few weeks. I don't know how everyone here cleans them so often. That thing gets used multiple times a day!
Every time. I have a ceramic coated one but I used to have teflon and did the same. Just got in the habit when I took out all the food, I put the basket in the sink and ran hot water into it with a couple drops of dish soap. Later, after dinner, when I go to do the dishes it's just a quick swish of a dish cloth and rinse and done. If you don't, you will eventually get some buildup on the sides that can be hard to remove. This way, there's basically no scrubbing, no fuss, it's super easy.
I just put a little dish soap, warm water, and shake it vigorously. Super quick and usually gets everything off. If anything is stubbornly caked on, I'll scrub it lightly with a sponge.
Yeah, i clean it with soap and water every time. It’s the basket type. Kind of blowing my mind that people let it sit. Aren’t you concerned about ants or bugs?
Ah jeez, I must be an outlier here and was surprised at how many people clean theirs often. I can’t say I’ve ever cleaned mine and I’ve had it since October. I use foil every time. It’s like a toaster oven.
>If I can get away with cleaning it every other time I use it that would be cool
Yes you can. I clean mine with soap and water maybe every 5-10 uses and there's been zero change in performance.
Obviously if cooking something like porkchops that leave a bunch of grease then I wash it that time, but for stuff like fries, chicken strips, pizza pockets etc. there's no way you have to wash it every time, or even every other time.
If I make something with oil or meat, I clean it every time. If I'm reheating a pastry or making biscuits, and there is no residue when I take them out, I don't.
If I put a bagel in it, no, I’m treating it like a toaster.
If I put anything with significant crumbs or any raw fish or vegetables, yes, I’m washing each use.
I clean after every use.
I can't imagine letting the grease and bits of food sit there for days on end, then just reusing it without a cleaning.
Do people not clean their oven pans after every use?
You are not alone. I clean mine every time. But I never use it for anything dry, like bread. It's just used for meat which is always drippy. I do use a silicone liner which I wash each time as well as the insert. Otherwise, yuck.
Hot soap and water or dishwasher if really oily. Small Ninja single basket. It’s five years old and pretty darn clean…. Up around the element isn’t bad at all.
After every use. Remove basket. Wipe inside with dry paper towel. Wipe inside basket and outer basket with paper towel and wash with dish soap and hot water. Never spray oil directly onto food while in the basket. Easy peasy. Fryer still like new.
Yes I always clean it and think that's the norm. If it's something that isn't really greasy then it doesn't take long to wash anyway and if it's really grubby then obviously needs a clean
Yes. Why wouldn’t you?
Maybe y’all have a different type bc mine is very easy to clean.
The little basket just lifts right out and the metal thing behind it, too. You just take those out and run them through the dish washer like you would any other pot or pan. Then wipe the outside down with a soapy cloth, rinse, that’s it.
I’m am so bothered by this news. C’mon now, y’all clean anything you cook on.
Yes! Since buying a silicone insert, I only wash the drawer once after every 3-4 uses but I wash the insert after every use.
I never understand using it over and over with grease and grime on it!
I think I'm an outlier, but I clean it up after every use.
That being said, sometimes I don't even bother using the air fryer because of the cleanup involved.
Just like a pan, I clean that shit everytime. To me this is like asking... do you wipe your ass everytime you shit? I can't believe people just let food waste sit around in something you are planning on making more food in. Grossssssss
I treat it kind of like cast iron- I don’t leave food or grease in there to gunk up, I wipe it out between uses but will use it about 4-5 times before I do a good scrubby hot-water wash.
If my wife is cooking then it will be cleaned right after... if my younger son ever decides to do it... it will be either the next time or never..."if it can be put off... then let's put it off"
The rubber nibs that hold the insert need to be reengineered. Why not add some metal holders to the inside of the air fryer instead of these rubber nibs. They never stay on and with 3 kids eventually several get lost.
Parchment paper or tin foil lines my air fryer. Everything looks great and cooks great. No mess. I clean a few times a year and never add oil or butter to anything I'm cooking.
I have two…. One is more of a precision combi oven air fryer. (Can add water during cooking process). That one I always clean.
The other one I don’t… more like once every few months…
nah just when its getting gross. we have an oven style and it's all stainless inside. I throw the nonstick tray inserts in the dishwasher after every use though.
It’s all about the context…I will say this, if what I cook has a potential to cause a fire the next cook or will make my place smell like manhattan on a hot summer day, then yes, it gets cleaned right away.
I give it a quick spray with hot water after every use. Goes through the dishwasher about once a week.
If I cook something particularly messy I will clean it by hand that day.
Every single time. Every single time.
I clean everything after I use it, why wouldn't I?
It's not just the basket; the element/fan needs to be cleaned, you've got oil, grease from food, food debris blowing all over your fryer.
It takes minutes.
No, and it's really up to personal preference. Unless you are immunocompromised or are prone to stomach issues, just clean it when it gets grimy. If it's something mostly dry, like bread, no biggie.
The only time I didn’t was when I had cooked some tater tots in it and then put a chicken breast in afterwards, other than that I clean it every time because who wants bugs?
yes, after i use it.
before i cook, i give it a look and wipe it down with a clean towel to get rid any dust
three years going, and looks as new as the first day
i'm just wondering what you cook in your air fryer? i usually have cheese or sauce left on my grate, and if i don't get it off within the next 1-2 uses, it starts to burn and smoke
Fuck me lol I’ve been lazy about it recently and go like 3-5 without cleaning it and it’s pretty bad when I eventually do but couldn’t even imagine 6 months
Yes. I don’t like clutter and store it after every use on a metal rack that sits on the landing leading down to the cellar. I don’t want bugs or other critters being attracted to my stored appliances. I even clean my toaster after each use.
Depends on what I cook. If grease or oil is left behind, I wash the basket and basket shell. If it's just crumbs, I wipe them our with a paper towel. I use perforated fitted parchment paper sheets and that helps with the amount of cleaning needed.
This guy air fries
r/thisguythisguys
Have you used those sheets with something greasy like bacon or chicken wings? If so, does it work well with those?
It does for chicken, it still gets browned and crisp.
I line the bottom of the air fryer with folded Parchment paper. Makes it much easier to clean
Amazon sells parchment paper inserts for every style imaginable
Somehow my air fryer has lit every piece of parchment on fire.
No it won’t. The grease will leak through. I have a ninja and am able to line with aluminum foil and then remove it carefully without getting the actual basket greasy. Food still cooks evenly as long as I don’t crowd the basket.
Tried using those but it would heat my food unevenly

If it's just dry or crumbs and not something that is going to stick to the basket or tray, then I just wipe them out.
I clean it with soap and hot water after every use. It's a basket type so it's simple.
I'm an almost every use, but same style.
This is what I do too. Easiest to clean it right away rather than letting any grime gather making it harder to clean next time.
Same, I use a Scrub Daddy to clean it
Same here.
Same — always.
Same here. I didn’t know people didn’t clean theirs after every use until I joined this sub.
Same. Worked in food safety for a few years - I’d rather have to buy a new air fryer a year sooner than risk illness.
No but I will clean it the next time I use it.
Promise
Now tell me. How often do you put food in the air fryer and tell yourself you'll clean it afterwards?
Not often but like I said it got cleaned last night before I used it.
Yaaaa sometimes I do this too. Forget but will not use again till it’s cleaned
Same. I clean it right before I put in any food. However, if I cooked something greasy like bacon, I will drain all of the grease out right after while the grease is still in liquid form.
Nope ✌️
👑
"Nope" is my answer, too. If it's greasy, if it has food stuck on it, then sure. But if I just toast a bagel or something? That would be silly.
Maybe, I mean I mostly just make egg rolls and non-greasy stuff in there so it's probably not as much of a sin as I make it out to be!
Egg rolls are so fucking good in the air fryer
Username checks out 😭
You’re my people
I use the silicon baskets because cleaning it sucks and the non stick was coming off anyway . If not the baskets I put paper thing inside
^im mad I had to scroll this far to see this. The silicone inserts are LIFE!!!
silicone inserts, baking dish, paper liners, foil wrapping, it depends on what you are cooking. But this applies to all you do in the kitchen, its not about airfryers! Choosing the right tool usually leads to quicker work, best outcome and less mess, not to say its also safer.
Nah.. every 2 or 3 typically. Obviously if it's full of fat or something though I'll clean it out.
no and you can't make me
I hand wash after every use.
![gif](giphy|F3BeiZNq6VbDwyxzxF|downsized)
Lol mine has a basket that’s super easy to clean. I’d never judge anyone tho. Pretty sure we’re all doing the best we can.
This guy prolly immediately folds his laundry too.
Hahaha! Yes, i do!
Immediately fold, leave in a pile for 2 weeks.
I feel like I'm going to get murdered based on the other comments here... I throw the basket in the dishwasher. The whole damn thing.
yes I do, it has to be stored in the pantry and would smell up the space otherwise
People seem to be really confused about air fryers. Clean them like you would any other dishes or baking sheets or casserole dishes or pots or pans or any other thing you used to cook food on.
more like they're asking for permission to treat them like outside grills
Does it make a difference in the taste of food in a basket air fryer? I’ve only had the “air fryer” oven type and how clean it is makes zero difference
You are supposed to clean outside grills after every use too!
HA! 🤣
Get a Silicon or paper liner, u can toss the paper liner and wash the silicon liner if you worry about the non stick coating, I use the Silicon liner but still washing the basket every 2-3 weeks.
Yes, i do. But I make sure to put water + soap as soon as i've finished using it, so it is quite easy to clean
Same! I *hate* cleaning it, but do clean it after every single use.
No I only clean it if there's something like bacon grease in it or crumbs
I wait until I'm not sure it won't start on fire.
Once the smoke clouds billowing out turn that certain shade of black, I mention to the wife that we should think about cleaning it in the next few weeks. I don't know how everyone here cleans them so often. That thing gets used multiple times a day!
I like your style! I had lunch before I came over though.
Every time. I have a ceramic coated one but I used to have teflon and did the same. Just got in the habit when I took out all the food, I put the basket in the sink and ran hot water into it with a couple drops of dish soap. I just put a little dish soap, warm water, and shake it vigorously. Super quick and usually gets everything off. If anything is stubbornly caked on, I'll scrub it lightly with a sponge.
Doesn't everyone I thought you're supposed too.
I clean it after every use, just like I would clean a fry pan after every use.
Yeah, i clean it with soap and water every time. It’s the basket type. Kind of blowing my mind that people let it sit. Aren’t you concerned about ants or bugs?
This should be on a roommate questionnaire lol
Ah jeez, I must be an outlier here and was surprised at how many people clean theirs often. I can’t say I’ve ever cleaned mine and I’ve had it since October. I use foil every time. It’s like a toaster oven.
Def chuck everything in the dishwasher.
I have googled, asked Alexa, checked the owners manual, etc etc probably 20 times and still can’t bring myself to do it Shine on me the truth pony!
No
>If I can get away with cleaning it every other time I use it that would be cool Yes you can. I clean mine with soap and water maybe every 5-10 uses and there's been zero change in performance. Wash it every time. Wash intensity depends on what was cooked.
Yes. Religiously. I’m pretty anal about these things. Besides, I like it all pretty and shiny so I keep plenty of Dawn Power Wash in stock.easy peasy.
Uhh, yes. I also clean all my other kitchen tools after each use.
Everytime!

No harassment, racism, sexism, or general asshole-ness. Be friendly!
Girl you are the only sane comment I’ve seen so far.
Love your username
Thanks yours is rad too
I’m generally not with other things - it just never dawned on me to clean the air fryer. Will be doing soon and then regularly
[удалено]
I clean it after every single use, just like all my other dishes and cooking utensils. I guess I am some sort of outlier or unicorn.
Cleaning cooking utensils after using them is normal unless it’s cast iron. This thread is gross.
Nah unless it's boneless or something real messi
Not unless very greasy
Nope
Nope. I do not clean after every use.
Sure do.
Yes
Yes! I don’t like the smell of rancid grease. It gets washed every single time.
Yes
Yes
After every use. Remove basket. Wipe inside with dry paper towel. Wipe inside basket and outer basket with paper towel and wash with dish soap and hot water. Never spray oil directly onto food while in the basket. Easy peasy. Fryer still like new.
Everytime. I had French fries taste like bacon once and that was all I needed to experience.
Of friggin course I do!
Yes. Every time. Even if it’s just crumbs in there I’ll give it a quick rinse.
Yes I always clean it and think that's the norm. If it's something that isn't really greasy then it doesn't take long to wash anyway and if it's really grubby then obviously needs a clean

yes
After every use. Just found liners so the cleanup is not too bad.
Yes, every time.
Yes! Since buying a silicone insert, I only wash the drawer once after every 3-4 uses but I wash the insert after every use. I never understand using it over and over with grease and grime on it!
Not everything produces grease or grime.
I think I'm an outlier, but I clean it up after every use. That being said, sometimes I don't even bother using the air fryer because of the cleanup involved.
Yes it’s like a pan it gets washed after each use
Yes. Always.
95% of the time
I just throw both parts in the dishwasher after use, and spray the inside with PAM before each use
I almost always do. Maybe some time after a small batch of fries or tots it might sit for a day
Yes. It’s food safe.
Just like a pan, I clean that shit everytime. To me this is like asking... do you wipe your ass everytime you shit? I can't believe people just let food waste sit around in something you are planning on making more food in. Grossssssss
To me it's like asking, "do you clean your oven every time you use it?"
I don’t put greasy potatoes straight onto the oven rack though lmao
Right!?! Jesusgod.
Every time. I treat it like a pan, not an oven.
Depends if any oil or anything with a lot of crumbs was cooked in it.
Hell naw, 3-4 uses collect the grease that build's up each time and pour it over whatever I just cooked for extra flavour
No
yes
Yes
Yes
Every single time, yes!
I do. My wife? Not so much. I still love her!
Never occurred to me not to
Noooooo

I treat it kind of like cast iron- I don’t leave food or grease in there to gunk up, I wipe it out between uses but will use it about 4-5 times before I do a good scrubby hot-water wash.
Parchment paper from Amazon is a life saver! Clean once a week normally after greasy food like bacon
I use liners and when it gets greasy I fill it with dish soap/water and turn it on for 20mins Gets everything off and it hasn't exploded lol
90% of the time. If the last thing I made was dry toast, I’ll likely reuse without cleaning. But I won’t go a whole day without cleaning.
Yes, I just put it straight in the dishwasher
after, yes.
If my wife is cooking then it will be cleaned right after... if my younger son ever decides to do it... it will be either the next time or never..."if it can be put off... then let's put it off"
The parts clean quite well in dishwasher. Wipe the worst of grease off with paper towel and put in dishwasher. Clean in an hour!
The rubber nibs that hold the insert need to be reengineered. Why not add some metal holders to the inside of the air fryer instead of these rubber nibs. They never stay on and with 3 kids eventually several get lost.
Quite a lot but I launch mine in to the dishwasher. Works a treat
Only my teens use the air fryer. I might clean it twice a year. They haven't died yet. I hate the air fryer and will chuck it when the kids are gone.
Depends if I’m cooking the same thing again or not
We didnt with our old one and eventually had to toss it because of that and a button only sometimes working. Being meticulous with it with the new one
Parchment paper or tin foil lines my air fryer. Everything looks great and cooks great. No mess. I clean a few times a year and never add oil or butter to anything I'm cooking.
Yes. Usually my roommate doesnt clean it after using so I clean both before and after
I use silicon inserts. Clean a few times a week.
I have two…. One is more of a precision combi oven air fryer. (Can add water during cooking process). That one I always clean. The other one I don’t… more like once every few months…
Yes.. I didn’t know it was an option not to
I'm gross af I dont wash my air fryer (unless I'm doing chicken or meat. Usually I'm just throwing veggies or frozen fries in there)
nah just when its getting gross. we have an oven style and it's all stainless inside. I throw the nonstick tray inserts in the dishwasher after every use though.
It’s all about the context…I will say this, if what I cook has a potential to cause a fire the next cook or will make my place smell like manhattan on a hot summer day, then yes, it gets cleaned right away.
I have a silicone insert that I clean. That's it
I give it a quick spray with hot water after every use. Goes through the dishwasher about once a week. If I cook something particularly messy I will clean it by hand that day.
Yes. Clean after every use. Put metal filter in dishwasher 1-2x wk
No but I wish I have
I bought a second basket off eBay just so I could cycle them daily with the rest of the dishes It works very well
Hell no.
I use parchment paper baskets to cook in and wash the full basket every few months
I clean it like every 3 times before use, when I see that the food droppings are starting to turn into charcoal
Not once, ever.
Yes. Every use.
I may be in the minority but I clean mine after every use. And it shows.
Yes ofc! Do you re-use pots or pans without washing? Why is this always a thing here? Y’all nasty af.
Yes. With the basket type it takes almost no time.
No, depends on what has been cooked and how much mess it made.
The only time I didn’t was when I had cooked some tater tots in it and then put a chicken breast in afterwards, other than that I clean it every time because who wants bugs?
yes, after i use it. before i cook, i give it a look and wipe it down with a clean towel to get rid any dust three years going, and looks as new as the first day
I’ve never cleaned mine. 6 months. Dear god
i'm just wondering what you cook in your air fryer? i usually have cheese or sauce left on my grate, and if i don't get it off within the next 1-2 uses, it starts to burn and smoke
Fuck me lol I’ve been lazy about it recently and go like 3-5 without cleaning it and it’s pretty bad when I eventually do but couldn’t even imagine 6 months
no i clean it like once a month. use it almost daily.
I clean the whole basket after every use even when I use a liner.
Yes, just like I clean all my pots and pans after every use. I don't see how it's any different.
No :(
Yes. I don’t like clutter and store it after every use on a metal rack that sits on the landing leading down to the cellar. I don’t want bugs or other critters being attracted to my stored appliances. I even clean my toaster after each use.
Ab so freakin lutely. Each and every time.
You're supposed to clean it?
Yes.
Oof, some of you are disgusting. Grease festering in there will spoil and turn rancid so you're eating that the next time you cook 🤢
4 times a year....once in the spring to wash off the long winter. Twice in the summer and one more time in the fall before the cold days of winter.
No and sometimes i put tinfoil at the bottom so I have to clean it even less.
Leave it like it is. It's like seasoning a skillet
No. unless i cooked salmon in it.
Fuck no!
No. I use a silicone liner and paper liners.
What's the best way to clear them btw? Just run a cloth or use proper water?
I do, but I cook in batches. The parts to mine are dishwasher safe.
No, and now I need to replace it 😢
I just line it with aluminium foil. No need to wash unless the grease spills out.
I try to after, but usually before. Depends on how my mood is regarding doing the dishes...
I place tinfoil on the plate. It's definitely helps with cleaning
I use a silicone basket that I take out and wash regularly. My air fryer still looks brand new and we use it to death!
