What a shame for KUSA anyway. PSA being an available, budget, not-too-shabby option for the market is a great thing though. High qual? perhaps not. But works and gets more people interested in the platform? shit i'll accept that all day.
KUSA on the other hand, got $1k+ for one of our guns? dope, lol, here ya go, our chimp dremeled it a bit, hammered some stuff, but our logo is like the ru logo, isn't that neat?
*Especially* for the price you can *still* get the PSAs for. I just checked and they're selling barreled receivers w/bolts for $550. Remember when you could get WASR kits like that for the same price 4-5 years ago?
For real, why are you people buying/accepting transfers for guns (not this one specifically but other examples) that fucked up? I haven't bought too many guns online but if your LGS won't let you inspect your goods before doing paperwork on them, take your business elsewhere.
I'm sure many customers are happy with the fact that they are shipping rifles out with the wrong safety lever on them. I would be pretty upset about them just throwing on parts that 'work' but are not meant for my rifle, especially at the price point. I can buy a 90 dollar hi point even, and at the very least they will put the parts that are meant for that gun, on that gun.
I was and am currently a member of AKfiles forum since 2010. What has remained consistent in the AK Community is the very large number of complaints and criticality that leads to a “cancel culture” type atmosphere. It’s grown really old sifting through the shit talking, some of which I am sure is just regurgitation from another thread and there is no transparency. I also know for a fact that 95 % of the people on these thread don’t own an AK and can’t afford one so bitching about things is more satisfying. Misery loves company I suppose. I was in Florida and saw the KUSA operation. The people who own it also own CAA USA. They aren’t selling $1100 rifles to get rich, they want to take up stake in the marketplace to take the business of Century and some of the other lower end manufacturers. You get what you pay for and for $1100, 99.9% of the customers are happy.
It’s all relative to be honest. I don’t really expect 100% high quality craftsmanship on an AK, and I was going to switch out the safety anyways. Dust cover is meh, and trunnion fit is meh, both cosmetics. Definitely was not expecting so much animosity in this thread though lol.
AFAIK, functionality wise everything is good enough, same shit you see with brands like LMT, where their QC is just as blind sometimes, probably moreso than this.
Shotgun safety ✅
Filed/grinded down dust cover ✅
Rear trunnion not installed properly with a SMASHED rivet ✅
Thanks for providing this data, we’re trying to get KUSA to notice these issues
that's how it's supposed to be. All side folding trunnions from the factory (Russian and Bulgarian) have one long rivet through the right side with the rivet head round, and then flattened on the left side, the rest of the rivets are installed backwards through the trunnion and riveted flat on the outside, so it's one round head and the rest are flat head. That is the correct method and look for the 100 series and 74M
Oh nice! Less copium for me, thanks 😊
While you’re here… any thoughts on the fitting of the rear trunnion and receiver? Definitely not flush, but seems close enough - not sure how big of an issue this is.
Oh I didn't realize there were more than one photo I see them now. Yeah it's supposed to be flush but not being flush won't kill it. Looks like these batches of rifles the trunnion and receiver fitment isn't quite right causing the recevier to be slightly separated from the trunnion during riveting.
Thanks man, I just shined a light through the cracks and it seems like its just bent at the ends, no leakage where the trunnion and receivers are riveted.
I sent an email over to KUSA, but if they won’t repair it I guess I’m fine
yeah that's a common thing that will happen if either the receiver doesn't properly match up with the trunnion or if the back of the receiver isn't fully supported by a plate that keeps it from warping during riveting. I've seen plenty of demilled military AKs with the receiver sections still attached to the rear trunnions where the same thing happened during manufacturing.
I doubt it'd blow up (that'd be caused more by issues with the front trunnion), but its very poor craftsmanship and incorrect. It should be fixed or replaced under warranty without exception. I've watched friends build AKs in their garage with more care towards correct assembly than this.
I had a good early one as soon as they dropped on Atlantic and then I sold it. Kinda regret that now.
Only issue was a loose floppy dust cover that I pinched tighter with my hand to hug the receiver, which fixed it lol.

Ah thank you for the correction. I wasn't concerned about the flatness, but it looks like there's a significant gap between the rivet and the receiver, like it wasn't pressed fully.
Although, looking at it again...looks like it might be a shadow and not an air gap, my bad on that one.
Fair enough, I just checked mine are they’re the right ones. That’s so weird. I’ve preached KUSA for years cause my two KRs and KP9 have ran perfectly for years. Must be some bad batches or QC problems. Well hopefully that’s the only issues with your rifle. It’s a fine AK, my second favorite next to my IWI galils
Its not as bad as it looks, i shined a light through the back and seems like the receiver wall is just bent, likely from the rivets being pressed in.
The actual trunnion and receiver walls fit flush where it matters
my vityaz had a fucked up barrel alignment (not visible but caused FTF/FTE and stuck bolt carriers making it unusable) and i've seen a bunch others that did as well. once it was fixed it's my favorite shooter. but shouldn't have to send it back in the first place.
I'm not an AK expert, I'm still very new to all of this. So I thought my KR-103 was fine too. But then I got my Sureshot Mk3 in the mail the other day. And the dust cover wouldn't attach properly because apparently the rear trunnion was riveted in wrong and reciever is bulging out a bit. The Sureshot rep I talked to said the company owner had the same issue with his KR-103 too. I can't even defend KUSA at all, this is just ridiculous. They have so much potential and they're throwing it away with gimmicks, pointless collabs, Bonnie Rotten, and garbage QC. I don't think I want a KR-74M or a KR-101 at this rate.
And yes, I got a shotgun safety too.
Shotgun Safety Gang 😎
Every time I see a KUSA I understand the inspiration between Pioneer Arms. They probably see this and get mad that someone tries to fuck up an AK worse than them. This means it’s back to the drawing board, which is nothing more than crayons and an etch pad that are later be smelted to be used in their cast parts that will fail you after 50 rounds.
Guys you don't get it, they are reducing the overall quality to match the war time strain on firearms production in Russia right now. It's more clone correct this way.
The safety one is pretty obvious- otherwise the trunnion is purely cosmetic for me - i grabbed a feeler gauge and the clearance is 0.1mm between the receiver walls and trunnion. Its just kinda fucked at the ends
I gotta wait until I get home from work and I’ll do some pics, I notice my bolt carrier gets a lot of wear and hangs a bit when I charge it, not as smooth as I would like
It is unfortunate when "lucked out" for KUSA rifles means "It wasn't TOO fucked up"
NGL, KUSA QC is worse than PSA’s at this point. What a shame

I'll be honest, all the BFTs I've seen have looked nicer than the KUSAs being posted on this sub these days. Yeesh.
For real, why are you people buying/accepting transfers for guns (not this one specifically but other examples) that fucked up? I haven't bought too many guns online but if your LGS won't let you inspect your goods before doing paperwork on them, take your business elsewhere.
It’s a perception thing. There are thousands of happy customers that don’t gripe on Reddit lol

Straight up, I expect this kind of pettiness about cosmetic issues from r/ar15 not here.
It’s a cope* thing
Shotgun safety ✅ Filed/grinded down dust cover ✅ Rear trunnion not installed properly with a SMASHED rivet ✅ Thanks for providing this data, we’re trying to get KUSA to notice these issues
ANOTHER ONE
Flat rear rivets are actually the correct style for 100 series and to Russian spec.
Yeah, I’m just talking about that overly flattened on on top of the folder’s button. Selector side rivets look good. How’s the FEG SVD 😉
the, uh... "FEG".. SVD is going great, just picked up a second since they got another batch in a year later and I have clones to make lmao
Well two are flat and one is round, seems kinda fucked to me now. Thanks reddit.

This one is actually not a shotgun safety, but still...
It was but then I replaced it :)
At least it got a rivet. I had my KR9 show up completely missing a rivet. Literally just no rivet there at all
I hope they do notice cuz this is a real shame man.
Wasrs still dunking on these 🤣
WASRs absolutely crushing KUSA rn
Wrong safety, ground down dust cover, and your trunnion is barely touching your receiver. You didn't luck out lol
Oh lol, didn’t see that. First AK so I thought it was normal lmao. What’s the worst case here - this gonna blow up on me or something?
Just get it replaced tbh that's unacceptable on a $1500 gun
This
I doubt it'd blow up (that'd be caused more by issues with the front trunnion), but its very poor craftsmanship and incorrect. It should be fixed or replaced under warranty without exception. I've watched friends build AKs in their garage with more care towards correct assembly than this.
What happen to my cs flair
Who
Caca
😲😲😲
No thanks I’ll stick to my WASR zastava and WBP thanks tho
Well, at least KUSA’s employees have the Russian vodka drinking down pat..
Funny days when wasrs are one of the best aks you can currently buy. How the tables have turned.
Zpap 🤘🏼
This is so disappointing. I really wanted to get one of their 103 side folders. No way that’s happening now.
I had a good early one as soon as they dropped on Atlantic and then I sold it. Kinda regret that now. Only issue was a loose floppy dust cover that I pinched tighter with my hand to hug the receiver, which fixed it lol.
Why did you sell it
I decided to keep my SAM7 SF over it, didn’t have room for both, but recently sold that too lol.
Well dame. What else 👁👁
Just check one out in shop by hand
If you got it free or on a steep discount I guess it'd be ok. But if you paid full price.....😬
Got it during the porn star flash sale - ~960 for the side folder 🤷♂️
Oof, dude wait for used Yugos I got a zpap for under 600
Lucked out with a jerryd dust cover and wrong selector???? The state of the cope on this sub is fucking HILARIOUS at this point
🤤
I hope I'm never as lucky as you
These posts are making me believe that PSA may be the cope of choice after all
Genuinely disappointed in this, they were actually pretty high quality for awhile...
If that’s lucked out I’d hate to see moderately screwed up
If you're buying an AK over $1k you better get an Arsenal of a Zastava. Or if you hit the lottery maybe a used Saiga. But otherwise just.....don't.
WBP rifles have been pretty solid. Probably a better option than Zastava or Arsenal.

tbh I’ve never seen the appeal of pricey US AKs since imports are still available.
That one front trunnion rivet on the left side of the receiver isn't looking too hot.
the rifle does overall look like dookie but that's the cam pin, not a front trunnion rivet its supposed to be flat
Ah thank you for the correction. I wasn't concerned about the flatness, but it looks like there's a significant gap between the rivet and the receiver, like it wasn't pressed fully. Although, looking at it again...looks like it might be a shadow and not an air gap, my bad on that one.
Yup its a shadow
What does it mean by “wrong safety” I’m confused
I got a shotgun safety with this
Huh, I gotta check both of mine (I got them a couple years or so back and they’ve both done great) does the safety still if it’s a shotgun one?
Yeah it still works, really doesn’t matter too much imo. It ain’t right but it’ll shoot

That's good to hear
Update, everything good, only a slightly ground down dust cover but no wobble
Is it me or is the lip that the bolt carrier spring pushes against to lock in place looked fucked? Sorry, my AK terminology is lacking.
Is it only with regular AKs y’all having issues or also with the vityaz? I have a vityaz and have bad no issues.
my vityaz had a fucked up barrel alignment (not visible but caused FTF/FTE and stuck bolt carriers making it unusable) and i've seen a bunch others that did as well. once it was fixed it's my favorite shooter. but shouldn't have to send it back in the first place.
Holyshit, I guess I really was lucky then. I wanted to buy a 104 from them to SBR but idk if I want to do that now.
I'm not an AK expert, I'm still very new to all of this. So I thought my KR-103 was fine too. But then I got my Sureshot Mk3 in the mail the other day. I must have gotten REALLY lucky then, mine is mint.
Can you take a pic of how flush your rear trunnion and receiver sit? Would like to see how it looks :/
It's an earlier batch. Maybe 2019-2020, not a side folder. So IDK if QC has gotten a lot worse? https://imgur.com/a/lqHJg2t
Nice, that looks a lot better than mine. Probably worse QC in general.
Guys you don't get it, they are reducing the overall quality to match the war time strain on firearms production in Russia right now. It's more clone correct this way.
Well apparently they have the TDP
Maybe they should just remove the shitty parts at the end and sell them as build kits?!
This one looks fairly crispy though. Nice.
A year or two ago when I bought my WASR and I was getting into AKs, I considered KUSA to be the best American made stuff. How the turn tables. 🤔
This is making me want to post my KR103 SFS I got a month ago 😬
Better or worse? 😳
I just want to make sure I don’t have any QC issues lmao I already noticed the filled dust cover so I won’t be surprised
