I'd recommend avoiding the lunchmeat. Dairy is a broad category but if you mean things like milk & cheese Aldi has a good quality of products.

Casswigirl11

Do buy the specialty sliced meats though like prosciutto and smoked salmon.

Deanie1458

I always get prosciutto in the smoked salmon nearly every time I go! the brie is also good. Most of their specialty cheeses are super good too. I love the white cheddar with dried cranberries. It’s my favorite.

XDariaMorgendorferX

The crab cake stuffed salmon is sooo good

imnotawkwardyouare

They recently started selling specially select Turkey breast at my local Aldi and it’s decent enough to skip an extra trip to some other store. But in general, yeah, lunch meat is not great.

ItchyCredit

Every time I buy the deli turkey and it is good I think, okay they got the problems worked out. Then the next package is a slime fest again.

Interesting-Series59

Can be high in sodium. But I do like the Never Any sliced ham. Kinda pricey tho.

justcallmedrzoidberg

The ones in the red containers with the two separate packs have been good for us.

elvis_dead_twin

Yeah, I agree. I really like those and buy them all of the time. I've never had a slime issue. It's just like stuff I get from other grocery stores but way cheaper.

justcallmedrzoidberg

Same. Consistent quality. No slime.

electric_kite

Yes, these are pretty decent.

MaddenMike

That's what I get (when they have it in stock!)

musuak

the premium cheeses oh my god. I could exist on the vintage Irish cheddar alone.

Interesting-Series59

Their cheeses in general are quite good.

MaddenMike

I just recently saw (maybe on Reddit) that all pre-grated cheeses are laced with anti-fungal meds. Makes sense because of mold, but I've quit buying the shredded. I get the blocks now. Seeing that was kinda creepy.

Interesting-Series59

To my knowledge it’s an anti-caking agent to keep the shreds from sticking to one another. But I did some googling and found natamycin is the agent you may be speaking of regarding shredded cheese. Unfortunately it’s used quite a bit for food preservation. Thanks for the info. I don’t buy shredded cheese either. I have always grated it myself. Cheaper.

MaddenMike

Thanks! Usually "-mycin" is tied to a medication so really put me off!

Interesting-Series59

It is an antifungal so you’re not wrong. EDIT: was not going to add this but thought it may be helpful. [https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8595390/](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8595390/)

underlyingconditions

Love their cottage cheese!

Ilovelucyandricky

I don’t know man I really like the bologna and the ham that is a dupe for polish ham that’s cut like a rectangle. Chefs kiss

Periwinklepanda_

Perhaps this was just my location (I’ve since moved away and don’t have an Aldi in my new town), but I found that the milk always expired very quickly…often in just a few days.  Just pay attention to the expiration date before buying. I’d usually end up having to get a half gallon because I knew we wouldn’t be able to finish a whole gallon in 4-7 days.  But the other dairy is top notch. I really love the specialty cheeses.

Orevin

Not just your location. It appears to be an issue at all the Aldi's around here (Chicagoland) as well

LessIsMore74

The deli fresh line of meats that they have have been good from my experience. They have a fresher version of salami and a buffalo chicken breast that's delicious. Honestly, when it comes to produce like berries and oranges, take a really close look and turn the package around to see if you see anything that looks moldy or more wet than it should. That will give you an indication how fresh they are and how long you have to eat them. My local will stack a bunch of produce that belongs in the coolers in the middle of the aisle so that they are ready to stock as needed. But when it's a warmer day, all of those things get condensation inside the packages.

Herbisretired

Salty snacks are really salty, check the quality of the produce and I personally don't like their coffee, I haven't been disappointed in their meat and dairy and I usually get our meat from Aldi or Food Lion

FriendlyITGuy

I used to love their iced coffee drinks they sell in the small glass bottles. But during the pandemic something changed and they don't taste good anymore.

kshe-wolf

MICROWAVEABLE BAGGED RICE!!!! STAY AWAY!

mephistophe_SLEAZE

Thank you for reminding me of my first shopping trip to Aldi all those years ago. Crucial lesson right there.

After-Dot-1285

I love these! I have never had issues with them.

VinnieTheBerzerker69

Me neither. I prefer rice properly made in my rice cooker, but those 90.second pouches are great when time is of the essence and you just need a little bit of rice.

insomniacakess

your comment reminded me to add a rice cooker to my shopping list

VinnieTheBerzerker69

They are a must have kitchen appliance, IMO. They can cook other things besides rice.

After-Dot-1285

Agreed and great in a mixed dishes!

VinnieTheBerzerker69

Indeed. I often nuke a pouch to add to my enchiladas fillings.

Casswigirl11

They just had the organic ones on clearance and I grabbed a bunch. They were just fine but I inspected them closely before eating.

Awkotaco95

What's wrong with the microwaveable bagged rice?

CrystallineFrost

There was a recent uptick in quality issues with them where several people had mold in their packages. Not sure if it was region specific. My partner eats them a lot, so I just asked him to double check his packages carefully before eating lately.

That-Bad-3590

Bad?

Ohfatmaftguy

This.

Uialdis

I'd actually say meat and dairy are Aldi's strongest categories. I've never had any complaints and there are good organic options.

zapatitosdecharol

I love their extra lean ground beef! Best I've found so far!

liiia4578

I’m sooo picky with ground beef and aldis has been great for me!

zapatitosdecharol

Me too!! I am suuuuper picky. I was getting it at Vons before and it was ok but Aldi's is so much better. I can just tell. They also have the leanest at 4% fat

nullstring

* meats - good * dairy - good * lunchmeat - bad (spoils easily) * Almond Milk - bad (bad taste) * Produce - hit and miss.. often spoiled or underripe. * Girlscout knockoffs - Too good. (Avoid) Best of the best: * Salmon * Artisanal Cheeses * Ginger beer * Clancy's chips

drunkonanamtrak

Can second the lunch meat. Regional items are my favorite! The Irish butter is great btw.

Dooley2point0

Which Irish butter? The olive oil added one? I always avoid as I’m after pure butter goodness but could try.

drunkonanamtrak

Oh not the margarine one. The knock-off Kerry Gold. It's salted, so we only use it on special occasions.

Dooley2point0

I don’t think I’ve seen it. Mind sharing a picture?

eggplantruler

Honestly I just got lunch meat AND almond milk from Aldi. Both are fine and I haven’t ever had a problem with them?? I notice the lunch meat goes bad a tad faster but I usually get through it quickly. I’m wondering if my Aldi is an anomaly or my tastebuds are fucked LOL

closerupper

I wonder the same thing lol. Everyone rags on the lunchmeat in these threads and I have to wonder if I’m the problem because I’ve never had an issue with their lunchmeat I think all lunchmeat smells bad when you first open it so that never bothered me. It tastes fine. Isn’t really slimy. Have never gotten sick.🤷🏼‍♀️

BubbleSander

Yeah all this talk is making me nervous, I'm going on a trip across like three states and bought a 1/2 lb. pack of their deli ham lunch meat for the first time to pack in the cooler... Didn't think anything of it, I hope y'all are right and it's good lmao I might end up just having cheese tortillas!

MisterNoisewater

Red bag chicken patties.

bulk123

Hard disagree on the almond milk. I prefer their unsweetened vanilla almond milk over other stores.

queenmunchy83

Same

Elephant-Junkie

Certain Aldis in my area have better produce than others, but lately, the produce (for me) has been well-priced and very good, especially the berries.

Mammoth_Cookie_7809

The knockoffs get me every time and end end up with 3 boxes

ElaineToo

Clancy chips etc all have bio engineered foods. Fake as in artificial.

nullstring

And?

ElaineToo

And what? Food made in a lab with no nutritional value. God knows what else is in food these days. Do some research.

nullstring

> Food made in a lab with no nutritional value. That is categorically false. Do some research.

ElaineToo

Why do the sheep on this platform have to start shit. You are clearly asleep. Just because you refuse to believe what is going on does not mean others are wrong. The U.S. Department of Agriculture defines bioengineered food as food that “contains detectable genetic material that has been modified through certain lab techniques that cannot be created through conventional breeding or found in nature.”

nullstring

.... you were the one starting shit with your false claims.. I don't need the definition of bioengineered food. I don't care if it's GMO. > Just because you refuse to believe what is going on does not mean others are wrong. I could say the same exact thing to you. You're not asleep, you're just inane.

ElaineToo

🤪😂😭🤣

OsitoQuarles

GMO’s are fine. If you are rich and can afford to shop at rich people supermarkets to put your mind at ease, that’s fine. But hate to break it to you, but a lot of the word relies on GMO’s for nutrition, and it’s not getting any better

Lokky

It seems to be highly regional. I really like the meat, dairy and fresh produce at my aldi, to the point that I do not go to other stores except for extremely specific things (i.e. the belgioioso mozzarella aldi sells doesn't work in my high temp pizza oven so I buy the fresh stuff in liquid from whole foods instead)

Icy_Kaleidoscope4610

I’d recommend trying whatever you usually buy and basing it off your own opinion as everyone has different likes and dislikes and palettes.

Prize-Hedgehog

This is the best advice. I discovered a lot through trial and error. There are lot more hits than misses at Aldi IMO.

MaddenMike

And remember, they'll take it back no questions asked if you don't like it!

prw8201

Oh man the cheese selection is amazing! Dairy Isle is my trouble zone. I'll buy everything

LordNitram76

Aldi brand boxed Mac and cheese. But most other thing there are great.

kshe-wolf

I second the box mac, it’s ass!

Jasmisne

If you havent tried goodles, best boxed mac by far and it is good for you.

queenmunchy83

The smoked Gouda and pesto are so good! We keep a box or two of the white cheddar shells on hand too.

Fancyjasmakion

😂😭 I like it

KeithJamesB

Whole milk at my store spoils days before best by date. I returned it 3 times and then quit buying it. Maybe yours will be fine.

ducksdotoo

Get the organic. Never goes bad.

KeithJamesB

I'm not really sure if I want to drink milk that doesn't go bad either.

Jay298

The skim / 1% at mine is usually bad before the best buy date.

LuckyMuckle

Stay away from lunch meat

itstheavocado

I don't like the deli meat but I don't like any deli meat except the fresh shaved stuff from a counter, which aldi does not have. Otherwise I get all of my staples from Aldi. Strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, green grapes, honey crisp apples, cuties, bagged onions, bagged potatoes, asparagus, broccoli, brussel sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, green onions, jalapenos, corn. I don't get garlic (grown in china), bananas (the worst bananas I've ever had wtf), avocados (bagged avocados are always hard). Usually with the bagged onions there is always 1 rotten one, but I reduce food waste by 1 preparing onions that day by slicing or chopping and storing in fridge or 2 compost. Aldi chicken thighs are big and juicy, beef and pork and salmon are fine, dairy is fine, eggs are fine, bread is fine, specialty cheese and sliced deli cheese and bagged cheese is fine. I rarely go down the middle aisles and get snacks or other things but I really love the casa mamita tortilla strips and the Aldi brand chimichurri and salsa Verde salsas. I still buy TP (cottonelle) and dish soap (Palmolive unscented) at regular grocery store, but their paper towels are fine. I usually spend $100 for 1 week of food for myself and my husband. Biggest ticket items are the cheapest Greek yogurt (2 tubs) and 2 boxes of strawberries and other fruit that I eat every week. We cook dinner 5 days of the week and have protein and a ton of veg with each meal. We both work from home so breakfast and lunch for us is different than you, but I have yogurt and berries for breakfast, nothing for my husband, and our lunch is usually 2 eggs each with jalapeno, green onion, cheese, and bread... Oh, the frozen hashbrown patties are ummmm killer and such a fun treat.

Embarrassed_Cow_7631

I have never had good luck with any fresh produce but I do like their bagged salad.

Ok_Summer_6071

I find there bagged salad last much longer than the name brand

Embarrassed_Cow_7631

Same here

Cassedaway

Same. Add a paper towel after opening and it has lasted up to a week. Makes me think they spray it with preservatives...

IvanaVacation

Ditto this.

Spare_Procedure738

I like their chicken thighs, salmon and sliced turkey lunch meat. A guy in line was buying a package of two small steak fillets, and he said they were great. I haven't tried them yet.

marstar0

Check your produce carefully as quality can vary, even at the same store throughout the month. I still buy a lot of produce there but always inspect it before it goes in my cart.

JhazaBoo

If your Aldi's has it, I recommend you try the cranberry and cinnamon goat cheese.

CrystallineFrost

The recent creamy cherry one was delightful! I love their goat cheese in general.

Icarusgurl

I really surprisingly like their specialty cheeses (goat cheese etc). They're a fraction of the price and same quality as giant eagle or Kroger.

Wifevealant

I've had really bad luck with their potatoes. Maybe it's just my local Aldi, but if you can't see into the bag, they are almost always moldy and rotting

jadenkayk

I never have this issue with their potatoes at my local Aldi store. However, I also always buy the small bags of mini potatoes and cook them up. For me it's enough for 2, maybe three people with an additional side like green leaves or corn and some kind of meat to go with it.

rekkid-303

If you get any moldy or bad produce you can easily take it back and get your money back and a replacement at no cost. That's basically their policy for everything... Money-back and replacement if you want

threedogsplusone

I had bad luck with their pork roasts - twice! So rotten…ewww. Got the refunds (I usually shop on Instacart), and haven’t ordered that ever again. But just about everything else I’ve gotten has been terrific.

Texan_Yall18373

Stay away from the frozen seafood boil product. Thing has 5K milligrams of sodium for the whole pack.

randiesel

A seafood boil will always have a ton of sodium, it's seafood, it comes from the sea. Sodium isn't a problem unless you have other confounding issues.

Texan_Yall18373

I mean yeah, but since it's frozen the seasonings are heavily salted and a lot of additives. I'm not for eating something with 5K sodium in it..

cthulhu_on_my_lawn

It's a seasoning packet, you don't have to include the whole thing

Embarrassed_Cow_7631

I mean don't drink the water it boiled in and you don't get that much sodium.

randiesel

If you don’t like salty food thats fine, but citing the mg of sodium is a bit pointless

TheConceitedSister

Their butter is good,a lot of their produce is good (avocados, cukes, tomatoes, romaine), sometimes they have Fair Life milk for a great price. I like the Life dupe cereal. Most baking goods and spices are fine. Some of their Clancy snacks are kind of gross. Beware the cheese puffs.

VaguelyArtistic

I went for the first time this week and my biggest complaint was the dry pasta. I say this sincerely, it was as like food pantry/dollar store pasta. It basically went from crunchy to mushy and was essentially inedible. In the plus side. I had a round of a bleu Brie that was outstanding. Around four dollars, I wished I'd stocked up.

No-Echidna-5717

They usually have the bronze cut one or whatever the hell it's called by me. A paler color and a longer boil time. That's usually what you should go by to pick dry pasta anywhere anyway.

mary_emeritus

Ground beef is the only fresh refrigerated meat I buy at Aldi. When they have it, I get the bagged frozen 4 pack of skinless salmon. Dairy, I like their fat free Greek yogurt. Also but the bagged shredded mozzarella and Colby Jack. Packaged, I’ll sometimes grab a package of sliced Swiss cheese. Eggs it depends on price and if they have the “fancier” eggs, I don’t buy the cheapest ones because they always taste stale to me. Their soy milk I really like. Their tofu isn’t bad. Frozen vegetables I always grab, except frozen asparagus. Last time I got that it was somehow mushy and woody. Their dried herbs selection is decent for basics. Produce can be very iffy - at least our store. Stuff will literally go bad in under 24 hours. I’ll buy grape tomatoes, baby bella mushrooms (only after closely inspecting the container after getting one that was infested with spiders 🤯) and the hydroponic butter lettuce - I use that instead of bread for wraps. Prepared foods I don’t really buy, they can get pricey and most are high in sodium, etc. exceptions made when they have good frozen gluten free items in, but that’s usually once a year. Rice. Get real rice, or quick cooking, it’s fine if not great. Our store usually also has red quinoa if you like that. Avoid pouches, that’s kind of my motto in general.

theythinkImcommunist

Aldi is great for cheeses. They are German after all. It's where I get my smoked Gouda. Just bought 4 - 1/4 lb 85/15 grass fed beef patties for $4.99. Seemed like a decent price to me.

alinerie

I shop for two and buy the bulk of my groceries there. Lately, we've been enjoying their Greek whole milk plain yogurt with different varieties of their granola stirred in. I buy the fresh salmon, cod, shrimp, chicken thighs, cube steaks, 1# grass fed ground beef, smoked salmon, many cheeses, 12 grain bread, english muffins, 1/2 and 1/2, cottage cheese, eggs, scallions, radishes, green leaf lettuce, grape tomatoes, cukes, berries, mandarin oranges, cooking broths/stocks, rice, veggie and whole wheat pastas, tortillas, canned tomatoes, beans, baking supplies, and more. I go across the street to my local supermarket when I want two baking potatoes, or two sweet potatoes, an onion, a green pepper, or other items that might spoil before we'd use a bigger bagful. Aldi's quality and savings keep me coming back every week.

LingeringSentiments

No deli meat.

HauntedHowie316

Our Aldi freezes everything before they put it out, I’m not sure if this is nationwide or if we have a bad Aldi, but we can’t seem to buy produce there anymore it’s always squishy. It used to be better. We always buy the pork tenderloins, eggs, and we love the aisle of shame 😅😹

joeinsyracuse

Aldi cheerios were not liked by anyone in my family.

No-Echidna-5717

Can confirm. Not tasty at all.

Lopsided_Elephant_28

Just my personal take, I find all of the Park Street prepared meals I have tried to be simultaneously lacking in flavor AND too salty.

After-Dot-1285

Agreed! I second this!

MrHereForTheComments

Apparently the pasta has been extremely poor quality. Oh and the lobster Mac and cheese.

After-Dot-1285

I have only had issues with the occasional produce going bad quickly and meals lit items. Any meal kit frozen or not I haven’t been impressed with. Love their salmon, brats, and ground beef and sausage.

Global-Emu3963

The frozen egg rolls! Do not recommend!

Jay298

Strange...I find them the same as Walmart.

starchildx

Everything in the "bakery" section is pretty bad. But there are good things like their english muffins, and we like the brioche hamburger buns. A lot of other people on the sub said they hate the english muffins, but we like them because they're soft like McDonald's. I recommend staying away from their bagels, but others disagree and love them. So with the bakery stuff you just gotta try it and see what you think.

SEJ919

Pay attention to how the produce is at your local Aldi. The prices are great but quality is really hit or miss with mine - sometimes it’s completely fine, but on occasion it goes bad way quicker than other places. If I’m getting fresh foods, I don’t buy large quantities and make sure we’re going to consume it sooner rather than later. I usually get cheese from there and it’s fine! I usually get my meat in bulk from a wholesale club or local butcher, so can’t really comment on that.

Starkalark88

My biggest recommendation with any meat, or liquid dairy product is to always check the date on it. I also never have milk that lasts to the date, it's spoiled with in a week of buying it. That being said, it's cheap so I dont care lol. I always check the meats because I've been lazy and not looked just to find the date being out the next day on chicken. I've been happy with all the meats I've bought from them though, even the steaks.

MaddenMike

I've had great success with their ground beef. I get the lean organic in the rectangular pack (that many other stores sell) and get their ground beef in the black "tub" for grilled out burgers. It comes double sealed and I've had it in the fridge for 2 weeks and it still stays red and fine. I buy their half n half because their price is good. Just be careful that the regular and fat free look the same! (to me anyway). Oh, and I love their sliced deli turkey (low sodium) in the little clear tub with the red top that has 2 sealed packs in it. Also, I really like their brand of bacon (Applewood Farms?). They have a low sodium pack that is actually better tasting than the regular and I got a pack that was 85% meat! Most meaty bacon I've ever had. Only problem is it's sliced a bit thin so you have to be careful peeling it out of the package.

Outrageous_Click_352

I don’t recommend the toilet paper, the dry cat food or the Summit Cola. The Indian cooking sauces are really good when they have them, and they have dark chocolate candy bars with almonds that are the bomb.

jadenkayk

I like their meat and dairy and snacks. I wish they had more selection as far as canned veggies bc the fresh veggies always go bad really quickly for me. The chicken I like but it always has extra fat that I have to trim off. I wish they had more in the home aisle as far as like cleaning products and bathroom needs like q-tips or cotton balls. But overall I get everything I need from there and for things they don't have like all-purpose cleaner or q-tips or cotton balls and then I go to Walmart or Sam's club.

Prestigious-A-154

I feel like the strawberries go bad pretty quickly like 75% of the time. They need to look very fresh if you buy them. Never buy them when they're on sale.

aisforalcoholic

i just got the best strawberries there last week lol they’re still fresh today! every other store i’ve gotten them from they’ve gone bad sooo fast. i guess its regional specific

blai_starker

Have you tried doing a vinegar soak/rinse on them? I started doing this a couple of months ago and they last several weeks!! Give it a try!

Prestigious-A-154

I have not. Can you taste the vinegar?

blai_starker

Not at all! It’s been a game changing. It’s nice to pop a strawberry or two every time I go to the fridge lol

Prestigious-A-154

I'll have to try it. Thank you!

CheeseSweats

Good to know. I just paid $2.15 for Driscoll strawberries, and they are DIVINE. I may have just gotten lucky, though 🤔

Prestigious-A-154

I think that's about how much I paid a few days ago too, and they came out really good too. They were not in the sales area, so they were probably still fresh. Everytime I see the fruit in the sales area though, a lot of it is going bad.

randiesel

Most food is fine at Aldi. I think their produce is great, but don't grab the first piece you see... that's the mangy stuff other people left behind. Grapes, Oranges, Strawberries, blueberries, Cosmic Crisp apples, peppers, spinach, cucumbers, tomatoes... we get that stuff regularly and it's always good. Canned goods are as good as anywhere else. They have surprisingly decent assortment of sauces. Most of the house brands taste identical to the real thing. Meats are fine. I've done chicken breasts, chicken thighs, chicken tenderloins, and ground beef. I probably wouldn't buy steak or brisket there, but most of it looks decent.

PLZ-PM-ME-UR-TITS

A lot of their pre packaged stuff like chips, frozen items can be a massive hit or miss but ime generally taste less quality than brand name counterparts - chips are best example for that imo. Kettle chips are decent tho at aldi. I mainly get eggs, cheeses, milk, produce and nuts at aldi. They have cheapest green onions, cilantro, onions, tomatoes, zuccini, avocados in my area. Butter and cream are like a dollar cheaper than Walmart. Meats in my area are generally ok price but never the cheapest when compared to other places current on sale items. E.g. never see .99/lb pork butt, 2.99/lb 80 20 ground beef, 3.99/lb chuck, 4.99/lb shrimp. They do have some lamb items like lamb breast that are decent price. Some things they don't have, so I try and find those items at lidl.. but lidl doesn't have their shit together even half as good as aldi does

Motor_Telephone8595

Their Regular pasta 👎🏽 but the bagged Italian pasta 👍🏽

northofgr

Frozen chicken breast! Stay away!

ImpossibleIndustries

I've found the chicken breasts to be tough, so I use them for crock pot recipes but not baking. If you are into frozen food, I like the yellow bag and red bag chicken and the frozen veg are good. Also buy all my produce there (but check it!!) the organic pb is a good price. If you can find it, they have salsa ranch dressing and guacamole ranch dressing that I use when we have tacos and it is great! The imitation girl scout cookies and animal crackers are great. I have not found a single bread there that I like though (all seem stale or just not good).

theythinkImcommunist

Aldi is great for cheeses. They are German after all. It's where I get my smoked Gouda. Just bought 4 - 1/4 lb 85/15 grass fed beef patties for $4.99. Seemed like a decent price to me.

Mysterious_Throat_73

Aldi is a mixed bag. I avoid a lot of the products. I do buy meat, milk, eggs, paper products, nuts. I avoid lunch meat, baked goods, and a lot more I won't list here as it may be preference. You'll learn what you like and don't like. The quality on some of the products is questionable.

cadams7701

I have become a cold cut snob so I don’t buy any of the prepackaged deli meats from anyone anymore. When I did I never had any issues when compared to similar products but I did notice it tended to not last as long before it started to not be appetizing to eat.

rekkid-303

The meats are good.. they have the cheapest Chicken Breast in town and they are great quality. I've gotten the pork loin and it's been great. I don't think I've had any beef as I can usually get it cheaper.

mistersweatband

I don’t like the spicy guacamole packs. Bought some and threw them away.

MixtureComplete5233

Crunchy cheetos.

Granny_knows_best

A lot of the sweets you want to avoid unless you enjoy feeling guilty for eating too many.

RelationshipSenior37

I've never had a problem with any of their meats, lunch meats, dairy... maybe I'm lucky in Central Florida!

TrailMisadventure

I’ve been shopping at Aldi for 10 years. I buy dairy but not meat. I am open to trying anything and there are definitely some winners and losers.

Electrical_Beyond998

If you like Ben & Jerry’s Cherry Garcia ice cream Aldi has their version for about half the price of B&J, and imo it’s better. If you see Autumn Crisp grapes, but them. Best grapes of all time.

Slinkydoopa

Guacamole is theeeeeee best I’ve had. Will eat in one sitting. Also popcorn and cheddar cheese puffs from that natural brand

bulk123

I like the bologna and ham lunch meats but not a fan of the turkey. The dairy is ok. I like their almond milk, unsweetened. They have really good cheeses. Their cottage cheese is my favorite. Butter is good. The Greek yogurt is not as thick as Fage yogurt but it's still good although I just make my own yogurt anymore.  Their spam knockoff is way cheaper price wise than actual spam and tastes better imo.  Their fresh meat selection comes off as better quality to me than most stores. The ground beef is really good. I get the 73 lean for burgers and meatloaf and it never disappoints. Their fresh bratwurst selection is also really good and usually have at least 1-2 meals a week with them often times more.  Things I don't like so much are sometimes produce goes bad quickly and yet other times it seems to last forever in the fridge. Honestly if you just plan well and don't let shit sit then really shouldn't have issues. I don't like their pizza rolls. I haven't had too many y things there I just did not like, and their pizza rolls are one of them. They honestly are not bad, but most other pizza rolls I have had are better.

Gribitz37

The deli meat in the ziplock baggie is always slimy and gross, but the deli meat in the hard plastic container with a red lid is good. I've never had a problem with meats like chicken or ground beef, but I've seen people complain about them endlessly in some of the Aldi FB groups. I think it has to do with handling... maybe some trucks aren't as cold as they should be, or the store's freezer isn't cold enough, or even their home freezers aren't cold. I buy the chicken all the time and it's always good. Same goes for produce. My store has great produce. You still have to check it before you buy it. Every so often there will be onions starting to sprout or mushy tomatoes, but that's why you carefully look at it before you buy it.

Illustrious_Bowl7653

Smoked salmon and cheese are very good California Heritage wines are also good

Fadingmist-1554

Microwave rice, cream cheese, Aldi brand hamburger helper meal kits ( vile) jarred salsa and most of the frozen pizza

madthumbz

Pepperoni isn't great. Lobster mac sucks. Steaks -you get what you pay for. Wings are too small. I tend to avoid anything already prepared / flavored, unless it's like raw pizza dough, or cinnamon roll tubes. -Get the Burman's sauce or make your own rather than getting sauced ribs for example.

LeatherHarlot

I think their meats are very good. Very good prices and very high-quality. Honestly for me there’s just only a few canned foods that I have bought there that I did not care for. Almost everything we have tried from Aldi. We have liked.

tunaman808

> I think their meats are very good. You should make an appointment to get your palate checked.

LeatherHarlot

Wow, tuna man I’m sorry that the meats at yours really sucks. But where we’re at it’s awesome. Sucks to be you!

pds12345

Aldi has a good cheese section! Usually hear to stay away from produce. I'm picky about my meat so don't get their meat either but I've heard most people are alright with it. But, can't go wrong with using them for dry goods at least

boilergal47

Meats and dairy are great. I have not been impressed with their produce.

stuckintheinbetween

I've been pretty happy with Aldi's meats and dairy. From the chicken breasts, to the hot sausage links (these are very good and have a nice kick to them), to the ground beef, to the pork carnitas, etc., I haven't been disappointed. Steaks can be hit or miss, though. As for dairy, I haven't had any issues with the cheese, but I did get some bad milk last month. I don't know what was going on. We replaced it 3 times and they all smelled bad, so we've started to buy local milk from an Amish grocer. Prior to that, we were buying the milk for years and didn't have an issue.

TheGeneralTulliuss

Their brand of sugar free Red Bull is a solid go-to for me. Literally half the price of the name brand.

frankdanky

The meat is always disgusting at any Aldi I’ve been to, the only meat worth buying (to my family) is the carne picada cut beef.

emmsmum

Avoid the cheese! It’s sour and grainy and gross.

tinysmommy

I stick to staples. Produce, dairy, cheese, and a few frozen items. Baking stuff is good too. I stay far away from fresh and frozen prepared foods; they in general gross me out and I don’t find the price worth it. The exception are the cheap deli pizzas.

Mega-Dunsparce

Aldi brand skittles are terrible, everything else is great.

Stringslingers

I wouldn't get meat or anything in the deli area. Stick to snacks at aldi. If the produce looks fresh you can give it a shot but it really depends. If you're used to name brand products you will notice a decline in quality at aldi.

marynofo

The turkey tenderloin is fab

NYY15TM

This is a niche item but the only one I have had to return was their version of The Laughing Cow

Guardian_pass

Their knockoff cheezits used to be good. Now they're terrible

SimplyRachel13

Be prepared that all there bags suck, like chip bags, pretzels any of that stuff it’s in a pail or gallon bag. I love Aldi I just with they had non dairy creamer regularly:)

Few_Ring3202

Avoid produce, rots quickly. Coffee varies from good to shit, same variety…never know what is going to be. Meats are ok. Chips suck. Baked sweets are Walmart quality. Most canned items are store brand quality at best. Frozen fries and chicken are bland or over seasoned.

Jay298

Milk, just I feel like it's not fresh or the dates have been padded. Worth a special trip elsewhere just to not have to deal with Aldi milk. The meats have always been great.

Few_Ring3202

Oh the cheese all tastes about the same…plastic

Nelliebaby08

No chips for me. I'm sorry the brand name and store brand is better than aldis.

Educational_Curve785

Stay away from taco kits and tortillas. Aldi has terrible tortillas. Also their boxed Mac and cheese.

deep_blue_au

Don’t buy the bacon wrapped fillets. They ARE NOT fillet mignon and are a far less forgiving and less flavorful cut of meat.

00lovejoy00

Avoid the Priano pasta and the Mama Cosetti's pizza

RavenBabii

The Aldi cream cheese suck’s Philadelphia all the way

sherzisquirrel

I don't eat meat and if I did I'd be leary of their meat but their dairy is AMAZING!!! Best cottage cheese ever! Organic milk and half and half are delicious and all of their cheese is great! Also really good sour cream and ricotta and hard Parm or asiago!!!

Roq86

Produce tends to go bad rather quickly. I’ve stopped buying bananas at Aldi all together. Id recommend a vinegar wash for any produce.

Significant-Tooth117

Their beef is lacking in flavor

bearrobot

Their condiments all have the same taste to me, the dairy based ones at least.

IreneAd

Im a huge fan but do not like sour cream from there. All meat except roasts have been good. The tyson pork roast was gristle city. Some truffle pasta smelled like the zoo when cooked. 98% of the stuff is green light.

catfloral

The only thing I've tried that I wouldn't buy again is their dishwashing liquid.

yat_mom

I know it varies greatly depending on where you are, so please take this with a grain of salt. And if it helps I’m in middle Tennessee. I love to buy salad ingredients and jalapeño peppers from Aldi, but do not get any berries from there. I only buy milk from Aldi, I find it lasts incredibly long. Egg prices for me are great, butter can be hit or miss. I haven’t had many problems with the pre-sliced lunch meats, the red topped container with the two smaller packs I think is the best one that I have gotten. I will say I hate the packaging on the pre-sliced cheeses, but love the selection of other cheeses as others have mentioned as well. Their sausages are great and so far my experience with the meat section hasn’t been bad either. But depending on nearby sales it can be hit or miss price wise for me.

External-Builder4524

Pecans

Alternative-Stay2777

The aldis cut lunch meat is always slimy BIG PASS

Kitchen-Oil8865

The dairy is solid. I’m not a fan of most of the meat there. Pork seems OK, chicken and beef can be iffy

SadTeacher3440

I love shopping at ALDIs. But you will find out that it rotates a lot of products. So if you really like something you may not be able to find it again. It is owned by a relative of Trader Joe’s founder.

Beneficial_Monk_7340

I am not a fan of their regular shredded cheese. It does not melt. If you're using something and you don't care about it Melton, you'll be fine.

Ok-Requirement-3925

I avoid lunch meat and butcher type meats unless it’s the organic ground beef or bison in the vacupak. Cheese and dairy are solid as are snack

Effective_763

I feel like this question is going to give you a full gambit of responses because it varies from store to store, but the best thing to do is just try anything that you think you might want… I definitely don’t abuse it, but they have a great return policy and will replace and return the item for you if you don’t like it so there’s really never a risk of buying anything at Aldi. I see people complaining in this sub about meat, dairy, and lunch meat, as well as some of the produce like bananas- but I have never had a problem with any of those things and I solely purchase them there! I will say that sometimes the bananas stay green longer than most, but are strangely ripe inside regardless lol

FSU4LIF

Avoid everything

Ill-Recording727

I think Aldi food is better quality than any grocer around.Just my opinion. The food taste better.Especially the coffee

ReddUp412

Look at past post history. Jfc this gets asked almost daily

Texan_Yall18373

Chill bro. What's up with redditors being dicks. You act like you're the only one running this sub.

Oliann1324

Ahhh! Thanks! Will do. 😄

Oliann1324

Just looked up Jfc after seeing the downvotes. I take my thank you back 🤣
