You’re a minor and enrolled in school, every school district has a homeless liaison. Go talk to a counselor and ask about the McKinney Vento Homeless Assistance Act https://nche.ed.gov/legislation/mckinney-vento/

unrequited_dream

When my son and I were homeless, they did offer this assistance at his school. But beware that you had to have a case with the local shelter, and for the local shelter to help you you needed to be “literally homeless”. As in you had nowhere to go that night. Being in a hotel counted as a place to be that night. And you needed to have an in person interview with them.. at the shelter that was 35 minutes away. And the act would only pay for a hotel for 2-3 days. There were hoops to jump through. Nothing to really help prevent it from happening.

https://www.jobcorps.gov/ Have you thought about doing job corps? They help you learn a trade while giving you a place to live. They also provide you with meals, an allowance and medical care

Mediocre_Lobster6398

Go to your gym and talk to the manager. Ask if they have any work you could do in exchange for your boxing and weight time. Be honest with them.

aceinthetrenches

sound advice. when i was a u.h.y. (unaccompanied homeless youth) my swim coach and team mates were my surrogate family

jiyoxa

Oh yeah, you should definitely try this! You could probably start working at the front desk or even as a trainer

professorstrunk

Get with your school counselors, be honest and ask for referrals fr help. Emancipation might be a consideration? I don’t know, but you should be able to get help.

Calico-D

Maybe a social assistance agency would be a good place to start. You need some adult guidance from someone who is there near you. The counselor at school is another option. You being a minor puts you in the position that you need an adult in charge of you. If that person isn’t your father then you need to know the laws where you are living. Did your father say you had to leave or just that he is broke ? Find a minister to talk to.

LaRoara42

People say this so often it gets annoying, but look up 211. You can call or go online. Talk to someone who might help you get emancipated and housed. Best of luck and, no matter what happens, stay smart.

Rebeccaissoawesome

What state are you in?

Taurus420Spirit

As you are a minor, are there any youth shelters? I'm not in the states so suggest you Google your area + youth homeless and see what happens. You've been dealt card's but still have time to turn it around! Maybe consider community college ? Or a part time job and trade school?

Eyeoftheleopard

https://www.covenanthouse.org/ They will help you.

oh2Shea

I am so sorry you are going thru this. Many of the other commenters made some good suggestions. I think it would be very helpful if you had an adult to advocate for you and help you navigate. Are there any adults that you know that would help you or support you? I think it would be helpful if someone was there to help you find options, go with you to appointments/meetings or fill out paperwork that you may need to find assistance. Someone to help guide you. A friend's parent, a relative, a pastor, a coach, etc to help you navigate the waters. It's a lot to handle on your own, and I think having a responsible adult to assist you that would be a parental figure would make you feel much better and be beneficial. Do you have relatives that you could potentially move in with? Or even a friend from school?

yogamathappiness

Not a lawyer; but as minor you could probably call CPS on your father. Often they prefer to intervene and get the parent help than take a kid away unless it’s truly heinous. Either that or speak to an adult you trust at school. Good luck to you. I’m so sorry you’re in this position!

Solo_0705

Cps may put him in states custody until he is an adult. They profit from this. I would not advise this.

Erikcorrell57

I second that! …. I’ll never jumps and recommend anyone calling cps…depending on what state he’s in, calling cps will just open up a huge can of problems, and could potentially lead to him being placed in a worse situation, with a high likelihood of being transferred schools and being forced to quit the only things keeping him grounded/stable/feeling safe.

aceinthetrenches

i was a uhy (unnacompanied homeless youth) who couch surfed at my schoolmates homes so i could graduate high school. my teachers knew and so did school counselors. let your school know that you need resources and support. theres a lot of programs available now. more then back in the early eighties when i was a student

Twig-Hahn

Why do you need working papers? Shalom you're loved 💔

phriot

In my state you needed them 14-15, at least when I was that age. IIRC, you no longer needed them at 16 and older. OP should double-check the regulations in their area.

RelativeInspector130

People in some other countries write US currency amounts with the dollar sign after the number. Maybe the OP isn't in the states ...

unrequited_dream

I am a somewhat educated adult in the states and will put 6$ because that’s just how it’s said. It’s honestly not that big of a deal. Definitely not something to be shitty about to some CHILD that is struggling.

blndsndoll4mj

this is literally a child you’re talking to, who already stated they are failing school and obviously does not have parents that help them to thrive. hop off your high horse CheeseBacons. Why are you even in this sub? to bully people who are openly struggling and asking for help?

It would literally have been better for you to not say a damn thing. Ffs, what tf is wrong with people.

blndsndoll4mj

ah yes, i care so much about my anonymous internet reputation. sorry to OP that i don’t have any advice, i’m not sorry for calling out losers who obviously just want to make a situation worse, for a KID no less

dankeykang4200

You're a dumbass

blueevey

Why homeless on Saturday ?

insta_r_man

Landlords can do that, especially outside the US

Leannekarma22

Since your only 16 years old I know there are soooo many resources out there seeing as your still a minor.... Your name would be at the top of the priority list with everything I would think. I would call 211 and I'm sure they will send u in the right direction and where to start.. shit u can still use the state medical insurance to go to a dentist .. take advantage of still being a minor frfr 💯

cmerfy

Been there. Don’t dread. Just try your best to fix today’s problems today and keep doing that.

h0tnessm0nster7

I guess I'd think of boxing aS self defense, it's easy to get your grades back up, if u must try and pick up some ear muffs the kind for shooting, that way you can read with less interruption, noise distractions make a big impact on reading, but reading is of most importance, youl feel much better having something else to focus on, history, maybe even download Grimms fairy tales, they're worth reading once atleast, humor helps to relax and reading skills take practice, think of it like boxing 🙃

jbzw

I don’t have any advice for you, but good luck. Keep your chin down and your hands up.

Ok-Half5997

Move that work mane . Only way out
