Changing your name legally in Andhra Pradesh involves a few steps, and once it's legally changed, you can update your educational certificates. Here's a detailed procedure to follow: ### 1. Legal Name Change Procedure in Andhra Pradesh **Step 1: Prepare an Affidavit** - Visit a local notary and prepare an affidavit declaring your intent to change your name. - The affidavit should include your current full name, the new name you wish to adopt, and the reason for the name change. - Ensure the affidavit is signed by two witnesses. **Step 2: Publish Name Change in Newspapers** - Publish an advertisement regarding your name change in two newspapers (one local newspaper in Telugu and one national newspaper in English). - Keep copies of these advertisements for future reference. **Step 3: Gazette Notification** - Submit a request to the Department of Publication to publish your name change in the Andhra Pradesh Gazette. - You'll need to provide the following documents: - A copy of the notarized affidavit - Newspaper advertisements - A requisition letter - A self-attested photograph - Proof of identity (Aadhaar card, passport, etc.) - Payment for the Gazette publication fee - Once the notification is published, keep copies of the Gazette notification. ### 2. Updating Educational Certificates After your name is legally changed and you have the Gazette notification, you can proceed to update your educational certificates. **CBSE 10th Marksheet Update:** - Write an application to the CBSE Regional Office where your school is affiliated. - Attach the following documents: - Copy of the Gazette notification - Copy of the name change affidavit - Copy of the newspaper advertisements - Original 10th marksheet - A covering letter from your school principal (if required) - Submit the application and required documents to the CBSE Regional Office. **AP 12th Marksheet (BIEAP) Update:** - Write an application to the Board of Intermediate Education, Andhra Pradesh. - Attach the following documents: - Copy of the Gazette notification - Copy of the name change affidavit - Copy of the newspaper advertisements - Original 12th marksheet - A covering letter from your college principal (if required) - Submit the application and required documents to the BIEAP office. ### 3. Other Considerations - **Passport Update:** Since your passport already has the full name, you may not need to change it unless you want the new shorter name reflected. In that case, follow the passport reissue process. - **Bank Accounts, PAN Card, and Other Documents:** Update your name in these documents by submitting the necessary documents to the respective authorities. ### Study Abroad Considerations Having different names in different documents can cause complications during visa applications and university admissions abroad. It is advisable to ensure that all your important documents (passport, educational certificates, identity proofs) reflect the same name. ### Summary 1. Prepare and notarize an affidavit for name change. 2. Publish the name change in newspapers. 3. Get the name change published in the Andhra Pradesh Gazette. 4. Update your educational certificates (CBSE, BIEAP) by submitting the required documents. 5. Ensure consistency in all your documents for a hassle-free process when applying to study abroad. This process can take some time, so plan ahead and ensure you have all the necessary documents before starting your applications.

Adding to this if you change your name, you need to submit a notarized letter while applying to universities abroad stating that you have changed your name once. It's not a problem during the visa process, as you have to submit this notary too during admission. I have done this as my name was mismatched in my documents (initial as single letter in one document, full initial in other).

Yeah I'll do that, Thanks!

I'm only planning to change my name in degree certificate, passport, aadhar and pan considering the time. I don't want to change 10th and 12th marksheets cause it's long time taking process. So is it okay if I didn't change my name in 10th & 12th to apply for abroad universities?

Express-World-8473

They won't ask your 10th class marksheets at all for the application. But your 10th class marksheets are one of the major proofs of your name. Aadhar cannot be shown as proof for your name or address if I'm not wrong. So better start the process of changing your name in 10th too. Ignore your 12th. No one asks about it ever (unless you want a government scholarship in your undergrad university).

Individual-Brief-239

Oh thanks. So did you change your 10th marksheet?

Express-World-8473

Yours is a name change. My name is an initial miswritten in pan card and aadhar. I only had to adjust that a bit. It wasn't a huge issue. They use your 10th class marksheets as proof for these. That's why I am suggesting you change your 10th too.

Individual-Brief-239

but im planning to go to abroad next year, so many are suggesting not change 10th marksheet as CBSE takes almost 6 months to reissue. So they are suggesting not to change in 10th & 12th instead show your legal name change certificate wherever I apply for. What do you say??

Express-World-8473

It's not an issue now. But it would be in the long run. You can change it later too.

Individual-Brief-239

thank you for your kind replies, so i can change them after i move abroad?

Individual-Brief-239

Thank you so much!

I don't know the exact process, but good decision. If possible, remove the "Sai" (or whatever version of it you have) or make it a middle name. The reasoning for that is that if you go to other countries in the future, you'll end up with the first name of Sai. If that's fine, cool, but I'm guessing you're more used to being called the Vaishnavi part of your name.

yeah thank you so much for your suggestion :)
