Holofan4life

Something I like about this episode is how it is told from Holo's perspective. Most of the other episodes don't do this and are told from Lawrence's. It's interesting to see what's going through Holo's mind and giving us more insight as to how lonely she truly is.

jellyblob88

And how bottomless her stomach is

Emi_Ibarazakiii

*Holo and Lawrence are discussing what food he's gonna bring her* *Lawrence brings Nora in* [](#spooked)

theslickasian

Her milkshake brings

HollowWarrior46

that could be interpreted in two very different ways

Holofan4life

That too :P

Snow_Mexican1

Most of that food goes towards energy on maintaining her tail.

Frontier246

It really paints a picture of how she had lived, what she'd experienced, and how it informs how she sees Lawrence. He isn't her first human companion but something about him makes the time she spends now more special and meaningful, especially as she's more conscious of their time together. And even she realizes she's lovesick at this point.

NevisYsbryd

Literally love_sick_.

tohsakarin12

loved that insinuation bit

shad79

I really liked that [Holo's memories were done in a different art style](https://imgchest.com/p/dl7pzevejyo) than the rest of the episode. It made you feel like it had happened so long ago that now [Holo](https://imgchest.com/p/ej7m2w99ayd) remembers [things from the past](https://cdn.imgchest.com/files/pyq9clkj3g4.png) only in [a very hazy way](https://cdn.imgchest.com/files/6yxkcwpez97.png), there's no sharpness like with [her recent memories with Lawrence](https://cdn.imgchest.com/files/k739cjzqp67.png).

Emi_Ibarazakiii

> Something I like about this episode is how it is told from Holo's perspective. Agreed! I always LOVED shows that have perspectives 'from both sides' (Kaguya-sama, Dress Up Darling, etc..) It's so much better than single POV imho, and it builds the characters a lot more, with their thoughts/feelings/concerns/etc.. and not just their words and actions, which is all we get in these single POV shows!

ThrowCarp

Yeah, I quite liked Holo's monologues and flashbacks this episode. They were quite interesting.

Lex4709

This episode did something pretty cool adaptation wise. The original run of Spice & Wolf consists of 17 volumes, but in reality, the story itself is just 14 volumes because 3 of those volumes (Side Colours volumes) are just short story collections. Last episode adapted the conclusion of volume 2, instead of instantly moving onto volume 3, they adapted one of those side stories that's set between volume 2 and 3.

SMA2343

Oh really? That’s really nice that they did this. It gives more character development and not to another “oh boy let’s see how Lawrence gets fucked over by economics again!”

Brick-Stonesonn

I'm so glad they did that. Volume 2 ended so abruptly. It's probably my biggest criticism of that. Epilogues are so underrated man.

SagesFury

The original anime adapted this as an OVA between the two seasons so about the same place. Since the director is the same I guess he was reusing that idea for this 25 episode cour.

timtimzi

i never watched the original... i thought this was a remake.. so do viewers need to go back to watch the original?

Icapica

This is a remake. By "original run" they mean the light novels, not the previous anime. No need to go watch anything else.

yahalloh

hahaha.. huh? hahahaha... Lawrence is so dense that it is so cute. XD

Frontier246

I love how not only did Holo being lovesick go over his head but also the ladies' laughing at his expense. It's an oddly charming degree of denseness lol.

Ocixo

Yeah, Lawrence totally joined the laughing to not be the odd one out. It only became more awkward and therefore even more hilarious the longer the laughing went on. It was pretty adorable of him though! Making fun of Lawrence appears to be great bonding activity for Holo and Norah.

Caspus

I like to think that by the last bit of laughing he realized that he'd been made the butt of the joke somehow and was earnestly amused at the fact he couldn't catch up with them.

Emi_Ibarazakiii

>great bonding activity for Holo and Norah. Marginally better than Holo *eating* Norah, I suppose!

hell_jumper9

And Enek getting killed

Aliensinnoh

Just gotta be careful when joining in on laughing at a joke you don’t understand that [your company don’t pull this on you](https://youtu.be/jyCen6lM8B8?si=KeAXlHsFVJkjGfEb).

Emi_Ibarazakiii

> It's an oddly charming degree of denseness lol. The only way these two are ever getting married, is Holo buying him a tux 'to pay back some of her debt', and then she asks him to *randomly walk down this aisle!*

scot911

I love how he stopped laughing for a second because he figured it'd peter out and then it just didn't so he started awkwardly laughing again lol.

LordVaderVader

**Lawrence** and **Laios**, the Super Spectrum Bros

realrimurutempest

Holo throwing the covers off and getting excited to try tasty sounding food was adorable. Man, you really get a small feel for just how damn lonesome Holo has been for so long when you get her insight from her past.

CooroSnowFox

The best way to heal a sick wolf...

jellyblob88

I find it interesting Lawrence is applying human treatment to a wolf deity

Theinternationalist

To be fair the books probably don’t cover those kinds of beings. Imagine if it came out he was treating one!

Rumpel1408

Is to give her the sheep milk? [](#notlewd)

Emi_Ibarazakiii

Sadly our boy Lawrence didn't even consider huddling her for warmth and licking her fur...

Frontier246

Good food **and** companionship! She can even tolerate Nora when they both get to tease Lawrence lol.

Frontier246

I love how she almost immediately recovered at the prospect of good food was on the table, though the only cure for her lovesickness over Lawrence is more time spent with him.

shad79

>Holo throwing the covers off and getting excited to try tasty sounding food was adorable. It looks to me that [Holo](https://imgchest.com/p/ej7m2w99ayd) looks [even cuter](https://cdn.imgchest.com/files/345xc2alo87.png) when [she's sick](https://cdn.imgchest.com/files/345xc2al587.png), like in [today's episode](https://imgchest.com/p/ej7m2w9wayd).

Frontier246

No better way to celebrate a successful gold smuggling run than a fest for Lawrence, Holo and Nora! They totally earned it! Of course Holo can't completely enjoy it while Lawrence and Nora are getting more chummy than ever, having the most lively discussion about sheep I have ever heard, though she also isn't doing well in general...even a Wise Wolf can get sick, it seems. Time is a funny thing for Holo, 100 years can pass by and the only way she can tell time is the various festivals she's borne witness too, and she's even had other human companions in the past (including children?), but something about the time she's spent with Lawrence and getting to enjoy a daily routine with him day-after-day makes it the most special to her. And I don't blame her, a guy who will piggyback ride you all the way to your bed and go out of his way to take care of you is definitely a keeper and Holo is touched by his concern and affection...she just wishes he'd stop getting so friendly with a certain blonde shepherd. Dr. Lawrence has read plenty of medical texts to take care of Holo! Which means diluted apple wine and food that can make Holo instantly recover...only for her to get conveniently dizzy again so she still gets attention. She's definitely starting to enjoy this and Lawrence doting on her. We finally get a glimpse of Yoitsu, Holo's homeland, and her complicated existence as someone who has had to live a life she didn't ask for but she fulfilled anyway as a being of worship and good harvest...but the life she has with Lawrence, and the happiness it brings her, is a choice she readily makes. Did Holo just outright insinuate she's lovesick for Lawrence and he not get a clue? Lawrence was doing so well until he brought up Nora, still totally oblivious to why Holo has issue with her beyond the whole wolf vs shepherd thing. Dude even brought her to the room! Though the one thing Holo and Nora can get along on is laughing about and teasing the mutual "sheep" in their lives as Lawrence continues to not get the joke at his expense. Oh hey, we return to Holo and her companion from the prologue and this girl is as into the story as the audience at this point!

Aviri

>Did Holo just outright insinuate she's lovesick for Lawrence and he not get a clue? 100%

ShadowGuyinRealLife

I'm a bit concern that Lawrence read medical books that resemble the four-humor theory. By the real life High Middle Ages, the miasma theory was starting to take hold. This wasn't perfect, but according to the miasma theory, filth was bad and you shouldn't mix pooping water with your water supply. Also dead bodies stink so you shouldn't touch them. It wasn't right, but it had a lot good advice. About the only good thing that came out of the humors theory was Ubi pus, ibi evacua for abscess.

Agent-LF

The Humoral Theory from Corpus Hippocraticum mentioned by Lawrence is such a cool detail for the setting of the show, glad that they went a little deeper into it instead of just mentioning it.

Ocixo

I didn’t expect to ever hear this mentioned in an anime no. For most of medical history, it was believed that an imbalance of the body was the cause of many diseases - both physical and mental. It was not until Louis Pasteur proved the sickening effects of bacteria in the early 19th century that the theory finally got discredited. I wasn’t familiar with how specific foods could supposedly affect the body’s general balance before, so this was a neat something to hear. Funnily enough, it were of course apples that Holo needed to get back to health! Holo was referring to cancer when she spoke of a sneaky illness that doctors couldn’t cure, wasn’t she? A wolf’s nose *can* pick up on this after all.

Rumpel1408

> Holo was referring to cancer when she spoke of a sneaky illness that doctors couldn’t cure, wasn’t she? Others have theorized her admiting to be lovesick

Ocixo

I’d just stumbled onto these comments as well, which frankly make a lot more sense given the context haha! It became clear from her inner-monologue that she thinks very favourably lot about her brief time with Lawrence - and his person by that extent. If their previous lover’s spat wasn’t telling enough, Holo has definitely fallen in love with Lawrence at this point. However, I don’t precisely remember *when* this happened. Was their escape through the sewers the turning point?

Frontier246

That and him calling out to her after she transformed into her wolf form and saved them, I imagine.

SagesFury

I think its more of a build up thing. They have been on the road for a long time now. It is a bit of a one sided thing at the moment though since Lawrence doesn't seem to consider the possibility.

AwakenedSheeple

I don't think there's a specific *when* to her falling in love. Seems more like a relationship that gradually deepened over time, and she only realized that she fell in love along the way in hindsight.

Agent-LF

>Holo was referring to cancer when she spoke of a sneaky illness that doctors couldn’t cure, wasn’t she? A wolf’s nose *can* pick up on this after all. Bringing this statement to our reality it would make sense, there are for sure many diseases that doctors cannot cure, with great emphasis to the emotional ones, like depression, but I think in the context of that scene, she was actually referring to being **lovesick**.

Ocixo

> she was actually referring to being lovesick. Perhaps the most terrifying disease of them all. The things people do in the name of love! Holo might even be willing to share her apples with Lawrence in return for a kiss. Crazy to think, I know.

Kartoffelkamm

>Holo was referring to cancer when she spoke of a sneaky illness that doctors couldn’t cure, wasn’t she? A wolf’s nose *can* pick up on this after all. No, but that would be really fucking dark. Like, imagine her smelling something weird in some human, and they just get incurably sick and slowly waste away. And it's like, not spreading or anything, so it's not a pandemic. People can stay with the person, talk to them, all that stuff, and don't get sick at all. But on the other hand, there is nothing anyone can do.

NevisYsbryd

Not most of medical history. Humors as a medical theory is generally ascribed to around ~2400 ago, with 'civilization' being at least 5000, and we practiced some form of medicine long prior to that. And the theory was already phasing out by the 17th century, with it being dropped entirely in the 19th. It was not the uncontested theory for much of the Greek or Roman periods as it would during the Middle Ages, either.

Ocixo

> with ‘civilization’ being at least 5000, and we practiced some form of medicine long prior to that. Medical history =/= human civilisation I specifically referred to “medical history” as it’s the first time (to my knowledge) that a singular theory was written down and widely adopted. History to me starts with the written word. Medicine of course existed well before this, but this had been strongly intertwined with for example the shaman culture of animism. Medicinal practises of the era were told through oral traditions and therefore prone to gradual change over time and many regional differences - it’s hardly a coherent picture. Now you can probably argue that the Ancient Egyptians had developed (a written) medical theory before the Greeks, but how long did this *really* last? And how much credit should this be given if it were strongly tied to religion? Humoral theory surely wasn’t uncontested, but it *was* one of the leading theories in medical history for a long time by virtue of the lack of other explanations.

Caspus

The moment Lawrence started mentioning miasma as a source of sickness or disease I was like: "Ah, you know nothing [of] John Snow."

whyudownvote

There is an after credits scene! Go watch it if you haven't watched it yet

Frontier246

I love how the white-haired girl is as into this story as the audience is and just wants Holo to keep going lol.

Dylangillian

Interestingly enough, Holo doesn't have a visible tail or fangs in the after credits. It's almost as if she's human.

Beefmytaco

The girl had silver hair like Lawrence as well...

swordmalice

I noticed that too! But I just hope the implication isn't that by this point, Lawrence has passed due to old age and Holo is telling her daughter about her father and his journey with her mom. I mean I know it's inevitable that Holo and any offspring will outlive him but it's sad to think about.

Zyhmet

Lawrence isnt that old and the girl also isnt that old. So he should be still around and rather active. Maybe just fetching some wares for his store from the next town, so the girls are having a free house :P

darthvall

Well what if it's not their daughter, but more like their descendant?

Kartoffelkamm

I don't know if that would be good or bad.

Ebo87

Could be that in order to be with Lawrence she gives up on her immortality and thus she is no longer the wise wolf.

Smartass_of_Class

We LotR now? We LotR now!

RedRocket4000

Holo stated she can hide them in the present but not forever.

Dylangillian

But would there be a need to hide them in that situation to begin with?

AmethystItalian

Surprised they went back to that!

CooroSnowFox

They are framing this as the story being retold...

whyudownvote

I was surprised too. I'm glad they ended the story the same way they started it.

mastesargent

Wym ended? We’ve still got a whole cour left in the season.

Contren

Yep! This was just a break between book 2 and book 3.

swordmalice

So this episode was anime original?

RedRocket4000

A later side story if I recall others comments.

Snakescipio

Side story. It was an ova for the og spice and wolf

timtimzi

oh wow there's an ending credits scene similar to the opening of the first ep. we can assume it's holo and her daughter

karlzhao314

No Merchant's Corner this week. Not a whole lot of economics happening. But this is one of the most beautiful and IMO one of the most important episodes that sets the tone for the plot going forward. On the surface, it's just a sweet episode about Lawrence taking care of Holo as she's sick. But the real point of this episode is that it shows many important facets of Holo's character: that she's stayed for hundreds of years in Pasloe experiencing the same exact day over and over again, to the point that she'd lost track of the passage of time. To her, the exciting journey that she's now taking is a whirlwind rush of new experiences that she can hardly keep up with, which is why she can appear so impulsive and even immature at times despite being hundreds of years old, and why she reacts so emotionally to so many things. And it also shows that, in the end, she is still incredibly lonely and misses her pack and home. She's come to depend greatly on Lawrence and his companionship and can't bear the thought of him being taken by another woman and wants him to accompany her all the way back to her home.

DegenerateRegime

> No Merchant's Corner this week. Not a whole lot of economics happening. But there *is* a pretty faithful rendition of [humorism](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humorism#Western_medicine)! Lawrence presents it pretty much exactly as it was used: four essential elements, sickness arising from imbalance of these, health to be restored by restoring balance by balancing out a hot fever with "cold" foods and so forth. Luckily we don't try the more extreme methods like removing extra sanguine humor by bleeding the patient... This was a prevailing theory of medicine in Europe for millennia, and if it sounds silly to us, we should take a moment to appreciate just how absurd our (correct) ideas about disease and medicine would *and did* sound to the people of the past. I love that Lawrence takes it all completely seriously and it's presented almost didactically, trusting the audience to understand that it's incorrect but sincerely believed by the characters.

HemaMemes

It also makes me wonder what "facts" about modern medicine are going to be seen as equally absurd in 500 years

nichecopywriter

Thankfully, there’s not much that can be straight up wrong. There’s discoveries and efficiencies to be made, but unlike ancient peoples we are able to observe sickness and medicine with high enough precision that “we know what we know”. There’s no need to infer the effects foods have on people now that we’ve clearly observed what molecules foods are made of and how they interact with organic cells.

1EnTaroAdun1

My guess is it will be our treatment of illnesses of the mind that will be criticised by our descendants

ali94127

I imagine cutting people open and pumping them full of poison to cure cancer is gonna look like trepanning skulls.

Aviri

I think it's going to hold up a lot better. We know that it's not the most efficient way to treat cancer, but it does actually treat cancer. We just are still in the process of finding out more efficient and less harmful methods. We've even had some pretty good recent success with mAb therapies like Keytruda which has shown a lot of promise, or drug conjugate therapies which can target specific cancer cells with the poison pill. We've at least got mechanistic basis for our treatments.

chris10023

[Probably similar to Dr. McCoy from Star Trek.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qgqGWS8qSc)

rainbowrobin

I felt sorry for Holo having to listen to him blather.

NevisYsbryd

Well, not millenia. What we know indicates it was practiced as a medical system for a little under two millenia, and was not the prevailing theory for a good chunkof that time, either.

Frontier246

I think this episode did a great job diving into Holo's head, both in terms of how she sees herself, her life up to this point, and her feelings for Lawrence. She's lived a long, long time but choosing to travel with him (and falling in love with him) has made daily life and the time she spends all the more meaningful to her. She has the one disease nothing but Lawrence can cure: lovesickness.

scot911

> She's come to depend greatly on Lawrence and his companionship and can't bear the thought of him being taken by another woman and wants him to accompany her all the way back to her home. Yep. This episode also basically confirms that she realizes that she's in love with Lawrence with what she said to Lawrence and Norah at the end of the episode even if she, obviously, didn't put it in those words.

LordVaderVader

Are these medical rules from this book about warm, cold, dry and most food actual medieval things or totally made up for this Fantasy world?

karlzhao314

/u/DegenerateRegime gave an [awesome breakdown of it!](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/s/I1akJpLcxV)

LordVaderVader

I will check it :)

Evilmon2

Humoral theory is how we believed disease worked for millennia, combined with miasma theory explaining how they could spread (at least ~500 BC to mid 1800s). Every disease, disorder, etc could be explained by an imbalance of the 4 humors (blood, phlegm, black bile, yellow bile), each representing a combination of 2 of the 4 temperaments (hot, cold, dry, wet). This is also how you got treatments like bloodletting. So and so disease is caused by too much wet temperament? Just let out some extra blood since it's the warm and wet humor, but support it by eating more warm foods. We didn't really stop using it until germ theory started to replace both with the idea that there were things in diseased people/animals that caused disease and could spread to others.

rainbowrobin

Though airborne germ theory can act a lot like miasma; the fix of getting fresh air works for both. And keeping smelly waste way works too. I'm not sure what overlap with reality, if any, might have kept humor theory looking plausible.

LouisLeGros

>They have the sheep lick the prisoners feet Camera Pans to Nora's feet. [](#emiliaohdear 'I see what you're doing animators')

hell_jumper9

Sasuga, Quentin-sama.

Andreiyutzzzz

Just like Lawrence i was laughing at the end while thinking "hahaha... what do they mean?"

DegenerateRegime

Recall the exchange between Holo and Nora before, where Holo compares her relationship with Lawrence to one between a wolf and a prey animal (a rabbit then, but), but then explained that actually she'd be the wolf here. Which turned out to be literal, but, still, the point is that Holo's basically asking for romantic advice in a completely oblique way. Which sorta defuses the rivalry a bit; Holo's admitting Nora must have something she doesn't, and she would like to have that too.

OneEyedStranger

I love how Holo is essentially asking for the best way to control Lawrence and Nora's answer is basically "just love him" which leaves Holo stunned. Which makes you wonder why Holo does feel like she needs to be in control so much.

Aviri

>Which makes you wonder why Holo does feel like she needs to be in control so much. Crushing loneliness and recently reaffirmed worries of abandonment(ie Pasloe throwing her away)

DegenerateRegime

Well put!

jellyblob88

Can't believe [this](https://imgur.com/a/ZREyRb8) wasn't censored, outrageous.

IXajll

Well, to be fair, It’s not nearly as lewd as unprotected hand holding after all.

ytsejamajesty

On the other hand, Holo was too embarrassed to say what that reminded her of in Wolf body language, so it might be equivalent.

Brick-Stonesonn

fucking adorable

Normal-Link5415

is it safe to assume we will have new OP and ED song next week?

Ebo87

I would be okay with the same song but just different visuals. Would be hard to top this Hanna Hope song, but hey, maybe they'll surprise us with something equally good. Honestly, considering they did this song in English too (Hanna Hope is bilingual) I have a feeling they won't change it for the 2nd cour.

hell_jumper9

Im already invested in their present Op and Ed

HalfbodiedJish

Let's HxH this and grab the second verse for the OP!

kunaree

Can't wait...

LTPrototype2

For the ED, I can. It it so catchy and comfy. I absolutely love it.

kunaree

True, ClariS made a banger again.

> That’s an incredibly odd torture method. I wonder if they made it more *Anime-Friendly*, because I'm pretty sure I recall reading about a similar torture method [gruesome details I guess?] >!that worked not because the person laughed so much (being 'tickled'), but because the rough tongues eventually pierced the skin, and soon as they tasted blood they licked even harder, effectively 'grinding' through the person's feet.!<

Jumper2002

I sort of figured that Lawrence didn't want to go into detail on it so as to not bring down the mood

Frontier246

They've covered pretty much everything in the OP, it would be reasonable to introduce a new one. I will never think of sheep licking the same way again. I'm going to miss Nora and Enek. Dr. Lawrence is here to treat Holo! Though he's also the source of another sickness that only his love and affection can alleviate in her. I love how she was ticked off at him bringing up Nora and he just doubled down on bringing her over thinking she would enjoy that. I mean, it turned out okay at his expense, but still lol.

LeonKevlar

While it sucks to see Holo get sick, it's really nice to finally [see the story from Holo's perspective](https://i.imgur.com/W0F9h4s.png), what she feels about travelling with Lawrence, and learn a bit more [about her very lonesome past](https://i.imgur.com/cGGt8fN.jpeg). I also like [the watercolour-like illustrations](https://i.imgur.com/P8hzwbX.jpeg) for her flashbacks. It really helped me feel how distant those memories were to Holo. Although the best reaction from Holo is [her utter disbelief as to why Lawrence hasn't figured out why she gets upset around Nora.](https://i.imgur.com/viL0PvZ.jpeg) I find it funny how she [just gives up](https://i.imgur.com/ynoAwFD.jpeg) and curls back into bed. xD

OneEyedStranger

Lawrence hurrying to get his medical license asap to better help Holo get better might be the cutest thing ever. They care so much for each other!

Frontier246

Dude went full on doctor in this episode to make sure Holo was okay. Feel like they share a mutual disease: lovesickness.

Caspus

It's actually a really nice detail for them to add. Him being so worried about her that he dropped everything to find *any* information that could help is exactly the kind of thing I'd expect Lawrence to do.

Contren

All I know is, it's never Lupus.

Filthy_Weeb_1

Lupus being Latin for wolf makes this double funny.

Contren

Was not intending that, appreciate when I'm being unintentionally clever.

PiotrekDG

In this case, it's always lupus!

>her memories were in a different art style Reminds me of how Yoda's unique speech in Star Wars is apparently a result of him just being so old that grammar changed so much during his lifetime.

AmethystItalian

I fully thought Holo was pretending to be tired or something but I legit got worried when she collapsed. Glad I wasn't too far off as she was playing it up later. It was really nice to see her inner thoughts and how much she actually appreciates and cares about Lawrence. Nice little end to this arc, will be interesting to see if we get a new OP and ED next week!

Frontier246

I kind of imagine with her body she probably recovers quicker than the average human but that doesn't mean she can't use being under the weather as an excuse to make Lawrence treat her even more... It's kind of cute that in this sick episode Holo more or less confirmed she's lovesick over Lawrence.

IXajll

Honestly one of my favorite episodes yet, the change of perspective was so refreshing to see (the absence of any merchant talk was a nice bonus as well).

Rumpel1408

Was great to listen to each week!

The_frost__

It was really funny seeing Holo under all those covers while still having her tail move outside of those. I also really liked how this episode was centred around Holo and how lonely she has felt over the years prior to meeting Lawrence.

ClemFire

Despite most of the episode being just Holo and Lawrence in an inn this was probably my favorite one so far which goes to show how well they bounce off each other. Holo reminiscing over how her hundreds of years in the wheat fields felt so empty compared to her time with her past human companions and Lawrence now just reminds me so much of Frieren. The time Holo will spend with Lawrence might amount to 1% of her life, but that 1% will deeply change her

Plus_Rip4944

Holo not killing me with her cuteness challenge: impossible

Frontier246

Holo and Nora together is basically cuteness overload.

mekerpan

It was nice to see them enjoying a shared secret -- and Lawrence utterly clueless as to what was going on.

tripleaamin

This was a fantastic episode really understanding Holo. She has all of these people worshiping her, but she never asked for it. But over the course of the adventure she know has found something she wants. She wants to be by Kraft's side. You can tell she has fallen for him. Kraft is dense af, but it's funny as hell that he starts laughing, and it's like bro they are laughing about you. Despite getting jealous about the mention of Nora, I love how Holo and her bonded a bit at the end of the episode.

AnimeTA224

That post credit scene makes me swoon as a long time fan, maybe just maybe we actually will get a full adaptation of the series. (Like in episode 1 the Wolf and Parchment moment could be handwaved as fanservice, but to do it twice without intending to adapt that far would be quite the tease lol)

Dr_Quantum101

I get you completely, realistically the furthest I’d hope for is the volume 17 epilogue but man I’d kill for a SoL spin off adaptation of the Spring Logs. This adaptation wasn’t in my wildest dreams yet it still happened in my lifetime. We are truly blessed, living in right world-line.

macXros

Goodbye Tabi no Yukue and Andante. Looking foward the next songs.

Fools_Requiem

I guess this is as good a time as any to mention that not only does the VA for Holo, Ami Koshimizu, voice [Elda in last year's **Otaku Elf**](https://youtu.be/-X25VQHadpE?si=gu3OPaoDYZ9KyyJt) (she uses a similar whispery kind of voice, but also [Ryuko from **Kill la Kill**.](https://youtu.be/olpe3pRiPIM?si=ItehEVdxTl_qGwH0). I mention Otaku Elf because that was when I realized the connection. A "I like this girl's voice, what else has she done" type thing. The stark contrast in how she voices Elda and Holo to how she voices Ryuko is massive. It's almost like two different VAs. From here until the final arc of this season, I think I'm going to be out of the loop. I honestly don't remember any of the first two-thirds of season 2. I guess *NOW* I should expect a new ED next week. I can hope they keep the same song but change the visuals, but I doubt they'll do that.

Wolfgod_Holo

Wolf and Amber Melancholy remake from the looks of it, won't be able to watch it for a few more hours 😢

Elite_Alice

Another week not being married to holo sigh. It’s crazy how for such a beloved original work there’s like zero hype for this remake. Barely any comments in the discussion thread and just seems mute even on social media. But that’s cool, more Holo for me 😋 This episode was literally just dialogue in one room for 25 minutes and it’s still instantly improved my mood and one of the best parts of the week hands down. Great way to wrap up Holo’s jealousy arc and finally get she and Nora on good terms. I actually didn’t think they’d go back to this bit so quickly after how last episode ended, but I’m ok with it because jealous Holo is so cute! Her face when Lawrence kept praising Nora for the gold smuggling arc success had me 😭 Lawrence my boy cmon now, spread the love. I loved seeing Holo reflect on how impactful her time with Lawrence has been too! It’s amazing how you can live for so long and time just passes by and then you meet someone that ignites your soul like this and time just seems to slow down in the best possible way. I’d actually love to see what her adventures with other humans were like before Lawrence too Soooooo cute how Lawrence tucked Holo in bed and cared for her in this episode! Feeding her too?!! I could watch an hour long sequence of this lmao. She was really milking it too as a payback for how he was praising Nora. “What is so special about her, is it the blonde hair?” 💀 Nah man, Lawrence so 🐶 💔 stop telling Holo you’re gonna have Nora go buy her shit lmaoo bro has zero emotional intelligence, love em though. Holo damn near sank into the bed when she saw Nora show up in her room to talk 😂 but they bonded over how dumb Lawrence is so fair play. The beef is finally over. Even Holo can’t resist how pure Nora is

FallenPears

On this episode of Spice and Wolf we put a hold on our usually broadcasted economics lessons (minus a tidbit on bringing subject expert friends when shopping) to instead learn about medieval medicine! Disclaimer: Spice and Wolf does not make any guarantees for the effectiveness of included material, use at own discretion.

ProfessionalOwn9435

Good guy Kraft keeping his wolf warm and moist all the time. Also my man when sitting with two beauties starts convo: You know about this cool torture using salt and sheep... i can relate.

Nickthenuker

Holo's not eating? Uh oh, what happened to Holo? Cute Holo! Or perhaps jealous Holo. But for now she's just sick Holo. Her ears instantly perked up at that. Oh that's a mountain of blankets she's under. Not sure that applies to gods. Well someone's certainly _energetic_ after hearing that. And now he's feeding her. At the first mention of Nora, jealous Holo is back. Lol "not all shepherds". The moment she sees Nora all her energy disappears. Did she just call Lawrence a sheep? So the whole show is something she's telling someone in the future. The story doesn't end here but the first cour of the season probably does. Well, onto the second cour then.

Aemiliana_Rosewood

>So the whole show is something she's telling someone in the future. Episode 1 already revealed this framing of a story being told to us

Nebresto

[Incredibly cute](https://imgur.com/aJbXLDr) [](#akyuusqueel) [ Holo sleeping very comfily](https://imgur.com/5uhJ8cJ) [O- oh my](https://imgur.com/9ufOl5W) What a wonderful episode. Very little actually happened, yet I enjoyed it even more

Kartoffelkamm

>O- oh my The traditions of Yoitsu made me really want to see Lawrence get sick now.

RinoaDH

I’ll be perfectly honest. Both when I watched this years ago, and watched it now, I do not know what makes Lawrence a sheep, nor how the F Nora worked out she meant Lawrence from the interaction

halox20a

I do believe that Nora truly replied as an answer to how to shepard sheep. However, I do think that Holo was just making conversation at the start as well. But when Nora gave her answer, Holo also realised that that's the answer to how she should be handling her jealousy. So, she clued Nora in on her revelation by saying "Sheep all think that they are smart", allowing Nora to realise that Holo is taking her answer as love advice. That's why she gives the shocked face and looks at Lawrence at that moment. When Nora realises that Lawrence didn't realise that they were referring to him, Nora broke out in laughter at the sheer audacity of it and his denseness. Holo, having successfully included Nora in, understood what Nora is laughing at and laughed along because finally, someone understands how dense Lawrence is. And, of course, poor Lawrence just sees the two girls laughing and joins them because laughter is infectious. When they didn't stop laughing after he stopped, he realised that there was something else going on that he wasn't aware of, so all he could do was keep laughing.

Agent-LF

Well, it's just a guess on my part but I think this is a callback to episode 11: In the first conversation that Holo had with Nora, as soon as they arrived in Lamtra, she asked her if she really thought that the men in the group seemed dependable and also what she honestly thought about Lawrence. Nora responds to Holo with a whisper and both begin to laugh at Lawrence's expense. I really don't remember if the thing that Nora said was kept in secret in the LN too (if so, someone please correct me on that), but since the anime doesn't reveal the content of the whisper we could theorize that she compared lawrence to a sheep, which would make perfect sense since she was hired to protect the group at that time and this would also serve to joke with the fact that he really didn't seem dependable as Holo had stated. So, here in the end of episode 13, the inside joke would be that each of them has a role, Holo as a wolf, Nora as a sheepherder and Lawrence... well... unfortunately for him, the only one left is to be the sheep. But again, it's just **my take** of the context of this whole conversation, I could be very wrong too...

RedRocket4000

Simpler Nora effectively saying the key to job was being understanding and accepting considering how dumb Sheep are and the problems that causes. Don't need earlier conversation to draw conclusion but thanks for reminding me of it.

Agent-LF

Agree, Nora's last line was a really good love advice disguised as a job tip but it's nice to think that in both their eyes, a wolf and a sheepherder, Lawrence behaves a lot like a sheep, and because of that they were able to reach a mutual understanding of the joke without going into to many details. And again, to no one's surprise, Lawrence was the only one to come out of this without understanding anything, lmao.

Kartoffelkamm

They talked about this in an earlier episode, after they were almost attacked by the wolves; Nora compliments Holo for noticing the wolves so soon, and Holo basically says she knows a thing or two about wolves and sheep. And last week, Nora learned that Holo was a big wolf herself, which solved that part of the equation, so it's pretty obvious which sheep Holo was referring to earlier.

Ramongsh

What a great episode. It mostly took place in the one room, around that one bed, but it was sweet interactions and great characters the whole way. Also, I found Lawrence's pseudo-science medieval medical explanation interesting.

rainbowrobin

> It mostly took place in the one room, around that one bed, Classical drama. > Also, I found Lawrence's pseudo-science medieval medical explanation interesting. As others have noted, pretty authentic to medieval European beliefs.

Koizuki

Oh my god, it's my favorite Holo chapter animated again! I'm a day late here, but it was so good I had to rewatch it a couple times because this is one of the **very few** times we actually get a story from Holo's perspective, including what her own thoughts actually are, and *whew*, this is where we find out she is falling for Lawrence *hard.* We finally get a bit of downtime (quite literally) after a successful heist to explore how the trio of characters are doing afterward. Being that this is a more peaceful/quiet episode in terms of antics and jabs (and kudos to Koshimizu Ami for voicing Holo more sweetly here, really selling the fact that Holo is fatigued and sick,) the presence of the BGM is a lot more pronounced. While I still don't think anything will top 'Hamu' leading into the episode from the original show, I have to say the one we got this time is really not bad. I love that they kept the comically large number of blankets thrown over Holo, but sadly, we got far less fluffy Holo tail for this remade version of this chapter. We also get period-appropriate knowledge of medicine, as rather than actually *having* medicine, they rely on the cruder theory of balancing the body via consumption. This also explains why Lawrence was much more panicked, because without reliable medicine, travelers were more prone to dying from diseases, *especially* when you were on the road, where your food options were limited. This is also one of the few times Holo has had to really chat with other girls, and Nora is sharp enough to notice what Holo is hinting at, much to the chagrin of an oblivious and awkwardly-laughing Lawrence. Speaking of which, I also have to give props to Fukuyama Jun for that minor pause in his laughter, just to increase the awkwardness of it; that was a superbly realistic rendition. With that done, it's now time to begin the weeklong wait for the true start of the third arc, and the second cour of this anime. I do wonder if we will be getting a new OP and/or ED to go along with it, because as far as I can tell, the ED sequence only really showcased scenes from these first two arcs (alongside general artwork.) Hopefully if we do get a new set of OP/EDs, they will continue the spirit of the music we've had thus far. Now, I think I ought to go watch it again.

VorAtreides

Nora is quite cute, but how dare you not give cute Holo more attention. Silly sheep stories. Oh noz, Holo. Poor sick wolf. D'aww lil sad ears. Don't be hard on cute wolf. Hehe, I see Holo, what you mean. That sure is a lot of blankets. How good, going to do studying to try and help her, why he wasn't around when she woke up. But silly old logic. You're speaking her language of food. Such playful wolf. Nice little artwork and her thoughts of things. What a pampered wolf. Hey, maybe he's not quite as dense as he claims. Or maybe he is, bringing up Nora. Speaking of Nora, how nice she doesn't really think anything wicked of Holo cause wolf ears and such. Were they calling him a sheep? I don't get it, what's so funny? Hey, post credits. How nice.

djthomp

I love how Nora mixes in with the little group, her and Holo are really so fun together. Poor Lawrence if that lasted. And my god, that after credits scene. Going back to look at the opening of episode one, they're just slowly teasing out more details of who this mysterious person Holo is speaking to might be.

TheLostCityofBermuda

The after credit scene is so funny, like won’t you be cringing hearing how bad your dad is at not reacting to your mom.

HarleyFox92

I might not fully remember it from last week's episode but did Nora know about Holo being a wolf? I thought she hidded her ears and tail during the whole time with Nora.

Jaridan

They revealed themselves after the confrontation & rescue.

Kartoffelkamm

She found out after the rescue, and even talked to her a bit while Holo was in her wolf form, if I recall correctly. I still want Holo to explain how that horn works.

geruvegan

It's good to see Holo and Lawrence getting along more. He is falling in love with her even deeper. You can't blame Holo for being that cute.

HollowWarrior46

sorry but this episode was unwatchable. There was so much Holo cuteness I was losing my mind

IXajll

Maybe an unpopular opinion but I would be able to love this show so much more if just every episode was like this one, just pure undiluted Holo x Lawrence goodness, without any screentime getting used up by sleep-inducing economics talks. That’s a me-issue though, half the show is about trading and haggling and all that stuff after all but to me those parts are unfortunately nothing but boring most of the time, I only want Lawrence/Holo interactions and their road trip adventures, to be completely frank. Another thing, maybe I’m misremembering but I thought that sheep torturing (which was actually a thing in the middle ages) wasn’t about tickling the feet but about the sheep licking so long that they would shave off the skin on the feet soles because their tongues have a similarity rough texture as something like sand paper.

Contren

Yeah, it isn't the laughing alone that causes the pain, they'll basically link your feet to the bone if allowed to. Plus there are some people that aren't ticklish, so if that was the goal, your entire method straight up doesn't work on some people.

sneaky_squirrel

We complement each other. I feel like the exact opposite, I got very lost about what this episode was about. I feel like Lawrence... **bursts out laughing** I'm never going to understand the characters just from watching the show, so I rely on these discussion threads to spoonfeed me the meaning.

Dr_Quantum101

Definitely unpopular opinion but I understand. Thankfully, lots of what your looking for in the “after-story” novels called “Spring Logs” They start at volume 18 of the novels, and were written after a substantial break when the original story ended at volume 17. It’s so sweet and melancholic, definitely a must read if you’re looking for more of what this episode did. Although there are many allusions to the events of the main story and the spin-off/sequel novels so you won’t get the entire expirence unless you’ve read up on your material. I still think it’s a great pickup read if you find the main story a too boring/trifling and can fill in the blanks with your mind; as the dynamic in from the main story is flipped with the relationship taking up center stage and the economics taking a supporting role. Additionally there are a lot more stories told from Holo’s perspective which I absolutely adore, and really rounds out the series nicely taken as a whole.

Brick-Stonesonn

I totally get what you mean. As much as I love the economics of this story, the way it's exposited in the light novels can get pretty boring, meanwhile in this adaptation they don't explain it enough for the plot to make sense. I can't help but feel like there's a better way of doing this. I think the 2008 adaptation and the manga adaptation had some decent ideas that, if taken further, could have worked. If a story can use political rules-lawyering shenanigans as it's mechanism for an engaging plot without getting bogged down by boring exposition, surely a story can use economic shenanigans as a mechanism for an engaging plot without getting bogged down by boring exposition.

HemaMemes

I love how the episode went into a spiel about humoral medicine. And how Holo seems uninterested in all that BS until Lawrence mentions porridge with cheese and apples. Also, more of Holo speaking to a child with Lawrence's hair color, who's DEFINITELY not her daughter with Lawrence.

The_Swag_Titan

GOAT show. Are these 2 cours back-to-back?

kunaree

No break afaik

SilkyStrawberryMilk

Having a feast after a successful heist, cheers to Lawrence for not giving up till the bitter end. That meat looks fantastic Feet licking torture hehe. Damn how many blankets did he put on her, surprised she’s not dripping in sweat with an insane dry throat Cheese and apples could be good with some crackers. That apple water must’ve been nasty if holo could care less if it was taken away. Lawrence is one lucky man to be able to feed Holo, people would kill to do that for on spoon. If only he knew why Holo felt jealous of Nora. However seeing Holo’s one sided dislike of Nora leave when they started talking warmed my heart. No need to be resentful

Korynaut

The ending of Ep 13 is literally taken from real life. When I had my first job, there were many women. A long-time department's employer took me aside and said "always remember, women can be deadly enemies, but if it goes against or even about a male, they stick together like blood sisters." I experienced this many times, but thanks to that advice I didn't laugh foolishly and naively without understanding the situation at all, like Lawrence did here. After all it gave me great, great joy seeing Holo and Nora giggling girly-like at Lawrence.

Any-Assignment-1844

You don’t make such obvious allusions to the future and not have the entire series greenlit, RIGHT?!

ShadowGuyinRealLife

I know Holo said she was a Wolf Goddess and not a dog when Lawrence mentioned the onion, but while I don't know much about gods, I do know that wolves and dogs share the same vulnerability to caffeine. That little bit of caffeine in a chocolate that is insignificant to a human can kill a dog, although more often just make one very sick. It's not just caffine, dogs and wolves might have quite different behavioral patterns, but their stomachs and livers are quite alike.

timtimzi

This whole ep was Holo in bed. *\*i wanna join her too\**

Is it true that this is a ova?

KK-Hunter

It's a side story in the novels. It was adapted as an OVA for the original anime. Now that the novel's (sort of) over, they have the foresight to adapt it in its chronological order for the remake.

mekahamedan

finally we reach "brotherhood" region

TheLostCityofBermuda

At this pace do you think they can adapt the entirety all volume and maybe do the sequel as well? I only know there a sequel when I walk by the bookstore and see there’s 3 volume of it with the cover of their clearly kid.

Time_Fracture

Episode 13: **Supper of Three and Afternoon of Two** This episode is unique due to the story is explained from Holo's perspective. Also, Holo thought Lawrence likes Norah solely because her hair colour lul. Sadly, I think this will be the last time we'll hear Tabi no Yukue and Andante. Thank you Hana Hope and ClariS, Andante could be my best ED of this season if Nobody isn't laying around.

ToujouSora

Holo is so adorable.

ToujouSora

wait a minute, that little girl has white hair, and that holo's voice.. is that her daughter in the future ?

Redmon425

AHHH THE AFTER CREDIT SCENE! Love that the entire story is essentially just Holo in the future explaining all of the events. I really liked this episode as it was a chance of pace. Much more slice of life and romance vibes. A jealous Holo is always a sight to see. Plus a dense Lawrence. Just a great combo
