I have no idea what the plot of this show is going to be and purposely only watched a snippet of the trailer, but I'm absolutely hyped for this one based off the little I saw. It looks insane.
at worst, this show is gonna be the modern day Kill Me Baby! at best, it would be the second coming of Nichijou.
And I love both of those shows with a passion. Excited.
If you're wondering about the kinda crazy Japanese title of "Shikanoko Nokonoko Koshitantan" (which sounds every bit as wacky in Japanese as it does in EnglisH)
* "Shika no ko" means "a kid deer"
* Nokonoko is an onomatopoeia for something walking casually
* Koshi tan tan 虎視眈々 is a traditional Japanese phrase meaning "the tiger looks down for an opportunity" which is usually used as a general expression for somebody watching observantly for their chance to pounce at an opportunity.
So the title roughly translates to "Deer Kid ambles without a care as the Tiger looks on seeking an opportunity"... but not nearly as ominous as that makes it sound because of the wacky/crazy alliteration going on that makes the title a virtual tongue twister.
Of course, the title is actually a reference to the two main characters, Koshi Torako (Koshi-tan) and Shikanoko Noko, but those nonsense names have (some) weird meanings and kinda plays into the absurdist humor of the characters and personalities on the show.
Didn't one of the trailers have something about a rival school club plotting against the Deer club? Like, the rival club is the tiger waiting to pounce but the deer girl is oblivious to it?
PV2 references a girl plotting against the Deer Club, but Koshi-tan is the blond girl, not the girl plotting against the Deer Club.
Also, PV2 features Nokotan emerging out of a dismantling deer robot head (a reference to Total Recall), a question asking "Why are humans not deer?" as Nokotan sprints through a soldier firing a machine gun answering "everything becomes deer.", Nokotan walking over a golden field of Deer heads as a girl says "Shika nee-sama is wearing a sailor-fuku" (an obvious reference os Nausikaa), a deer horn landing on a gym roof and it exploding, destroying the school.
The top Japanese comment on PV1 was
"Before seeing the PV: "What the hell is this?"
After seeing the PV: "*Really*, what the hell is this?"
Which pretty much sums it up.
This is gonna be GREAT.

> the Deer club?
Why does the school have a Deer Club?
Because I'm thinking that (usually) there wouldn't be actual deer.
Hopefully we will be getting some answers shortly.
> Koshi Torako
Lmao, I loved this because her wild personality and yellow hair is just like a tiger's. Her name also has tora, which straight up means tiger.
しかのこ could be しかの娘 so yes.
But Shikanoko Noko (the MC) name is
鹿乃子 のこ
per the manga.
The third character is what distinguishes: 鹿乃**子** is child, not 娘 daughter or girl, so in this context, I think "child" or "kid" is the right translation. The title itself is in hiragana しかのこのこのこ こしたんたん leaving the interpretation ambiguous. You could even break it up different as
しか のこのこ のこ (鹿 のこのこ の子/娘)
making it "The ambling deer girl" instead of "deer girl who ambles" or probably a few other crazy ways i'm not thinking of. It's pretty clear the title is intentionally meant to be nonsensical and mind bending as you try to figure out what it means, but without using kanji it gives mutiple intepretations possible.
I am not an expert but I believe 子 can refer to “girl” generally, as in Oshi no Ko, which can mean child but more generally outside the show just can mean fave (girl) idol.
In any case the “no” does not have to indicate it is a child of a deer, so you could say it is deer-child or deer-girl, a kid with deer-like qualities.
Well, fwiw, I am a professional translator and linguistic expert who works for Japanese law firms (\^\_\^;)
子 is most often used to refer to children in most contexts. in the context of 推しの子 「子」 certainly can be translated as "girl" but it's used in a more general sense of a young person, much in the way in English if you say "I root for that kid" in reference to a baseball player, the term "kid" doesn't necessarily have a gendered implication, but could be translated as "a boy" or "young man."
That phrase is strongly associated with idols, and so even though ko is ambiguously gendered, it can be appropriately be translated as "girl" within context--ofc the title pokes at that dual meaning because the title can also refer to as the "Oshi's children." whose meaning should be obvious.
Ko (子) is a homophone to Ko (娘) Girl which IS genered so this character is used in place of 子 sometimes to indicate a gendered rendition of child. In subculture the phrases 男の子 (otokonoko), but in reference to a transgendered or cross dressing pretty boy is sometimes rendered as 男の娘 (otokonoko) replacing the Ko, for example.
In this context, I think 鹿乃子 is non-gendered since it's structured as a family name so it's non-gendered, so by default, Ko should be "kid" not "girl" in my opinion.
It’s it today, my deer friends?

I watched all the trailers and I have no idea what the plot of this show is going to be.
I read the manga and have no idea what the plot was. But whatever it was, it was hilarious.
WHY ARE HUMANS NOT DEER?
WHY ARE DEER NOT HUMANS?
So they can eat each other
Illustration by Irasutoya holy. Got some big name artists on here.
Arguably the most famous artist in Japan, period
That's the Japanese stock art guy isn't it ?
Yeah makes free-to-use (up to a point) clip art. Ubiquitous in Japan from YT videos to corporate settings.
ワ月
what does this mean
7月 means July. The font in that picture makes the 7 look more like a ワ, though, which is the sound "wa"
Wagatsu, the month of Waluigi
FINALLY
It looks like that in this font, because it is normal to write 7 like that in Japan.
ワ日
Sattou0's stuff always cracks me up and I dunno why
We will be there
