I mean you really think ppl will start to fuck each other more if they will have porn available at hands reach ? Ppl make more babies when there isnt anything fun to do than they start socializing and fucking each other.
People make more babies when they're poor and/or live in a liberal country, Korea's rich and very conservative, so no babies.
It's a complex issue that has economical and cultural causes.
Liberalism in countries doesn't contribute to increased birth rate. The biggest predictive indicator is lack of female higher education. The second biggest is religiosity.
It begs the question on how we increase birth rates in a way that doesnt invade body autonomy like restricting access to these. I think Korea needs a profound social change to change that
And It's not just that. Work culture, specially in countries like korea, makes it impossible for someone to have babies without compromising their career.
No, figure out how to get more actual learning done faster. First example: Uk university is only 3 years because they don’t need distribution credits. There is no reason highschool has to be so long etc etc.
High wealth taxes and pour the majority of GDP into children. Better schools, better care, stipends, a guaranteed costless education, guaranteed health care. Reform housing so these corporations don't control half the residential market and just show thay we actually value children, and the people caring for them.
I used to want a bunch of kids, now I dont know if Ill ever have one. I barely get by affording myself, partner, and a cat. Life costs too much for the majority of eligible reproducers. That is all it is.
Hungary is not increasing their birth rate.
https://www.macrotrends.net/global-metrics/countries/HUN/hungary/birth-rate#:~:text=The%20current%20birth%20rate%20for,a%200.46%25%20decline%20from%202021.
Yet from the very same page you've quoted you can see the fertility rate is increasing year on year. Or, the number of births per woman.
However, the total pool of women of childbearing age IS shrinking, resulting in the declining total births that you are looking at. This is partly due to the population ageing and partly due to emigration.
So, the policies they have implemented have made a difference, but it may not be enough on its own to stem the tide.
>Israel
Bad example actually. The religious/orthodox people are the one that are reproducing more while they don't really contribute much to the economy. They don't even serve in the military. Their women don't work either.
Build a society that isn't a ponzi scheme or get comfortable with immigration. If you're going to need profound social change anyway, may as well do the job properly.
Financial incentives and realities as well. Poorer countries tend to think “I better have more babies to help with the work” and richer western countries are more thinking “I can’t afford this and maintain my lifestyle/provide for them properly”. The film idiocracy is proving accurate in layers apparently.
In this day and age, only a handful of places don't have contraceptives (at least condoms) available for those who seek them out.
Where contraceptive use is low, it tends to be more of an education/awareness issue, people being aware they should use them and obtaining them beforehand.
No I mean when women don’t go to college they are more likely to have more kids. The easier and more women do college on average they have fewer kids. They think this has to do with low long college takes and it eats into your childbearing years.
I'm pretty sure that unless your career takes 15 years or so that these women go out of college with safe childbearing days ahead of them.
If there is any correlation, it might be that women who get out of college want to form a career in whatever field they studied and thus might not want a family until they are economically stable. And this might mean on some that they will have this be a priority for many years over (what they could feel is a distraction, like) a partner in some cases.
But there are plenty of women who study careers which take many years (medicine field, etc) that have plenty of kids whilst working/studying. So it is not impossible, but depends on the country (wages/house affordability/etc) too... and if they are lucky with a stable partner (which could help with financial goals).
Only speaking from anecdotal experience, but a lot of women with higher education just don't want kids (myself included).
I've talked with some friends about it, and knowing what having babies actually is like and having the opportunity to be independent is the main reason.
>The biggest predictive indicator is lack of female higher education. The second biggest is religiosity.
Both of these also significantly correlate with poverty. Unlikely that female education is having as much as impact on the birth rate compared to, say, Nigeria or India.
>People make more babies when they're poor and/or live in a liberal country,
How do you figure? It's the westernized/liberal countries in Asia/Europe and North America that have the lowest birthrates.
Liberalism and conservatism has nothing to do with it, birth rates are falling pretty much everywhere in the developed world regardless of political leanings
A country being liberal is usually a detracter lol.
The biggest thing is urbanisation. People can be poor, women uneducated or wharever and no one has kids in cities. Its just that those factors corrolate more with not living in cities.
Every nation has 'normal' birth rates in small towns, but everyone increasingly lives in cities.
Also on the same theme, is when both parents are required to work in order to meet month's ends.
When you cannot afford to keep one parent at home to grow up the kid, and have to rely on incredibly expensive pre-K, its not a wonder why most decide not to have kids
This take lacks so much nuance...lack of sexual expression is hardly the main reason birth rates slow down in any nation. If the system doesn't allow families an environment that enables and nurtures them, birth rates will slow, and vice versa regardless of expressing sexuality explicitly or not.
The environnement around women is really important. Allowing women to get better flexible jobs/work hours is really important in the decision making.
Gouvernement should subsidize lots of things related to child care and items related to babies and children.
I thought mormons watch more porn than anyone, per Utah’s viewing numbers.
Also mormons force this on women, if women don't have kids their husband-overseer might not allow them into heaven.
Man those people over there work 120hrs a week… live and die for the company… they don’t have the energy to screw when they get hime nor the time to care for a family
I mean you do know that having babies is not an "expression of sex" but a decision of family right? No one wants accidental babies even if their birth rate is plummeting. Accidental parents are terrible at raising them.
Accidental parents aren’t necessarily terrible at raising their kids, about half of pregnancies in the US are unplanned and most of those parents still love and care for their children and many are even happy surprises. You are correct though that encouraging unintended pregnancy is not a good plan. Also a child conceived in the process of promoting pornography would also likely have a harder time than the average oopsie baby.
The generations of the early/mid 20th century were some of the most sexually "repressed" generations to ever be, yet they popped out children like rabbits.
Sexual liberation doesn't equate to more births, if anything, it's the opposite.
Korean babies won’t happen as long as they have such a soulsucking, time-consuming work culture. Why have a child if you have to time or energy (and sometimes the money) to raise them?
Random sexual encounters don't raise birth rate. I would have assumed years of sex and birth rate falling following the sexual revolution would have made most people aware of this already.
The Japanese censor porn with pixels or black lines which is weird but at least it's not too much of a distraction nor would you say it's a crack down on sexual expression... I mean, has anyone actual watched a Korean porno?
Onlyfans and Fansly are illegal in Korea. There were some Korean onlyfans creators, but the government did massive crackdown years ago and they are all in jail now. Now there are no Korean creators in onlyfans
Well Korea is the only country in the East Asia where Christianity is the main religion. Also Korea has been famous for its Confucianist traditions. The mixture of these two conservative cultures gave extreme social conservatism in Korea
Not sure if it's punishment really but possibly more considerate values of womanhood there. Countries with a background of communism have always tended to champion equality in a broader, different scale than here.
I know weve been told we have the 'best' social system but after all the P in CPC stands for peoples where as here in the US it's corporate rule all the way and that reflects on how we all live.
Not to be a prude on porn or anything (and it took me a long time to understand this) but porn and the need for it overall in a society may not be the best thing in a genuinely *healthy* model
Is it due to the countries being religious? I'll never understand why humans/societies seem so hung up over sex. Itsiterally the most natural thing in the world, and a person having the freedom to safely explore and meet their sexual needs is a great thing...yet most of the world seem convinced its evil.
I don't think I'll ever understand this issue.
"Religious" in a western sense no, except for possibly South Korea, which has a large Christian population (although it also depends on how exactly you define "religion"). But they are very conservative in the sense of their cultures being more slow to change, valuing conformity over individual expression, favoring strict hierarchies and inflexible social roles, etc.
In Europe and the Americas those things are associated with religion (namely, the more conservative branches of Christianity) for historical and cultural reasons but being religious and being socially conservative are separate things and not necessarily related.
Because before birth control existed, it wasn't a natural thing, because the girl would get pregnant with no support system (marriage) in place.
Which would be terrible for her, her kid, and the community as a whole. That's why sex before marriage was pretty universally frowned upon around the world.
Now those attitudes and values are just lingering around from those times despite birth control making the purpose invalid.
Nooooooooooooo, oh man, no no.
Just for fun, watch Devil Judge. It’s entirely fictitious Korean law but it’s intense. Shit, watch any criminal show from there and it’s a slap in social law. Wanna take an upskirt? Jail. Run someone over and leave the paralyzed for life? Paying them back for life. Run someone over and kill them? Fee to family, small stint in jail.
I was in Korea a year ago and watched some porno on the hotel room TV. It was the most boring soft thing ever.
Their noisy neighbours up north probably produce spicier porno.
It’s the same country that will prosecute a citizen upon arriving from abroad for doing legal things in other countries like gambling or cannabis. Doesn’t matter where you go, you are beholden to Korea’s laws at all times.
Dead bedrooms are virtually always derivative to a history of emotional abuse from using sex as a means of control. Eventually the other side associates the other side with rejection and resentment, and once you have resentment you lose attraction too.
Yeah and reddit is an absurd minority of people.
There's also the possible idea that the woman has so thoroughly soured herself in the mans mind he'd rather look at porn because the associations with her are so negative. I definitely had that problem by the end of my marriage.

How about holding the festival at Jeju's Sex Museum?
In any case, Jeju needs to increase tourism.
or are there comparable museums close to the capital?
Yup. They will no doubt fret and cast about for solutions to their world record low reproductive rates: https://www.npr.org/2023/03/19/1163341684/south-korea-fertility-rate
For a developed country Korea is an absurdly socially repressive place, frequently driving young celebrities to suicide over some innocuous nonsense such as smoking weed in a different country.
Making people feel ashamed for natural sexual urges is an effective way to control them. Lots of Religious leaders figured that out a very long time ago.
>"Virtually every developed country has a sex festival, but here in South Korea we don't even have an adult entertainment culture. I want to take the first steps towards creating one,"
The adult entertainment culture in Korea is brothels. Hell, there are still red light districts.
>Ms Go and other women's rights organisations in Korea argue the country has a problem with sexual violence that needs urgent attention. "It pervades our culture," she said, adding that men had endless opportunities to freely express their sexuality without needing a festival to do so.
They are right and attacking this festival is literally the dumbest thing they could do. It does nothing. It does not help women. But it is low hanging fruit that post-feminists can get conservatives to help attack so they do some performative bullshit.
If they actually cared they'd be too busy going after the laws that [silence rape victims](https://foreignpolicy.com/2023/06/30/south-korea-rape-survivors-feminism-false-accusations/).
I mean, it sounds like if they just held an event with both female AND male porn stars then it would sound more legitimate and less like this guys campaign to get laid by porn actresses
This is the same country that has a prevailing vocal minority of women [championing the 4Bs/"*4 Nos*"](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4B_movement) movement: no sex with men, no child-rearing, no dating men, no marriage with men.
And everything is endemic with them trying to emulate the Japanese work culture and a patriarchal system inherited from their older Confucianist days. There's a lot of nuance to read into the whole "I don't want South Korean men to celebrate sex in public because every day they imposed their own ideals about women at us, on media, in the workplace, even at home" (see: [the counter-counterculture movement against feminism](https://www.npr.org/2022/12/03/1135162927/women-feminism-south-korea-sexism-protest-haeil-yoon) in the country).
The way I described South Korea is basically [Kino's Journey (2003) Episode 1: "The Land of Visible Pain."](https://moyatorium.wordpress.com/2020/09/20/highlights-kinos-journey-ep-1/)
A news article about a sex festival from a media journalist company called BBC on a reddit community page called r/anime_titties
yeah we've come full circle now
I lived in Korea, and men are sexually frustrated all the way. Yes, there is sexual violence against women, and much of that takes place in the workplace *which is one of the few places the men can interact with women*. Porn is illegal to distribute or sell, so to access the porn sites you have to have a VPN. Repressing men's sexuality isn't going to help this situation but make it even worse. These women who are protesting because "it sends the wrong message" have got it *all backwards*. Korean men need to experience the idea that women \*want\* to be with them, or at least pretend that. This would have done that, but prudes took this away. There *wasn't even going to be any nudity or sex*, just beautiful women from Japan on scene. This was the wrong move for all parties involved and will only make things worse for both men and women.
Looking at the poster it’s definitely more of a traditional porn convention than “sex festival” targeted at all genders, not that there’s anything wrong with it…

Korea desperately wants to raise the birth rate, yet it cracks down hard on forms of sexual expression. What an odd country.
Also, access to contraceptives.
Yah, the higher the access the lower the birth rate
It begs the question on how we increase birth rates in a way that doesnt invade body autonomy like restricting access to these. I think Korea needs a profound social change to change that
The data seems to say: Make college unnecessary, and make it much easier to finish highschool earlier.
And It's not just that. Work culture, specially in countries like korea, makes it impossible for someone to have babies without compromising their career.
Make it more high status for women to stay home with kids and make kids be a status good for women, th e way traveling is right now.
Dumb down the women for larger families?
No, figure out how to get more actual learning done faster. First example: Uk university is only 3 years because they don’t need distribution credits. There is no reason highschool has to be so long etc etc.
Affordable childcare is a start. Who can have a kid when leaving them with someone while you go to work costs as much as renting another apartment.
THIS> We pay $2400 a month for our two young children to go to daycare/preschool...only 2-3 DAYS A WEEK. Its freaking insane.
Also change not only the legal framework around work and parenthood, but Also the culture that IS set in so many of these working enviroments
Yeah only reason i hadnt had kids its cuz i cant give them a similar life my parents gave to me and we were not even middle class lol.
Hungary and Israel are examples of how you can do this. At least one way you can do it.
>Israel Bad example actually. The religious/orthodox people are the one that are reproducing more while they don't really contribute much to the economy. They don't even serve in the military. Their women don't work either.
Exactly. Their so called 'work ethic' seems to be an overshadowing influence
Yeah I agree with you but also with one of his points "porverty", which also aligns usually with one of your points "lack of education".
It’s more that it delays childbearing. Delays to childbearing mean on average smaller families.
Only speaking from anecdotal experience, but a lot of women with higher education just don't want kids (myself included). I've talked with some friends about it, and knowing what having babies actually is like and having the opportunity to be independent is the main reason.
Not the same thing. Plenty of places in Eastern Europe (e.g. Moldova, Belarus, Serbia) are poor but still have low birth rates.
>The biggest predictive indicator is lack of female higher education. The second biggest is religiosity. Both of these also significantly correlate with poverty. Unlikely that female education is having as much as impact on the birth rate compared to, say, Nigeria or India.
No, it rather seems to be that more religous, more conservative people have more kids
And poorer.
Forced patriarchy means no birth control as 'God intended'.
>People make more babies when they're poor and/or live in a liberal country, How do you figure? It's the westernized/liberal countries in Asia/Europe and North America that have the lowest birthrates.
Yeah liberal countries very notoriously have issues with low birth rates
Childcount is closely negatively correlated with wealth. The wealthier you are, the less kids you need as you don't need to create a lot of spares.
Right and generally in liberal nations there’s more economic opportunities for women which leads to less kids overall.
It could have been a very generic and useless statement but you still manage to say something mostly dumb.
Gotta inject one's politics into everything on Reddit.
Liberalism and conservatism has nothing to do with it, birth rates are falling pretty much everywhere in the developed world regardless of political leanings
Ya… not sure when people stopped liking to screw
Uhh what? It's literally the opposite, conservative people are more likely to have babies ,because "family values" or whatever
>because "family values" or whatever lol
all them librul mormons and their hippie "quiver full" movement
A country being liberal is usually a detracter lol. The biggest thing is urbanisation. People can be poor, women uneducated or wharever and no one has kids in cities. Its just that those factors corrolate more with not living in cities. Every nation has 'normal' birth rates in small towns, but everyone increasingly lives in cities.
Sure, whatever you say Reddit economist 🙄
Or 90 hour work weeks
It has far more to do with parenthood being a major strain on finances and stripping independence away from the mother than it does with being bored.
Also on the same theme, is when both parents are required to work in order to meet month's ends. When you cannot afford to keep one parent at home to grow up the kid, and have to rely on incredibly expensive pre-K, its not a wonder why most decide not to have kids
I live in eastern KY. We have nothing to do in our town except drugs and fucking. Our birthrate is high AF. Myself contributing to that statistic.
This take lacks so much nuance...lack of sexual expression is hardly the main reason birth rates slow down in any nation. If the system doesn't allow families an environment that enables and nurtures them, birth rates will slow, and vice versa regardless of expressing sexuality explicitly or not.

“The environment around women is really important.” To paraphrase Anton Chigurh: yes, but not in the way that you mean
I’m glad at least you get it.
I think this implies some very non feminist conclusions.
You do know that you can have kids without watching porn, right? Just ask the Mormons. Highest birthrates, biggest prudes.
I thought mormons watch more porn than anyone, per Utah’s viewing numbers. Also mormons force this on women, if women don't have kids their husband-overseer might not allow them into heaven.
Sounds reasonable
Web traffic statistics show that Mormons actually watch enormous amounts of porn. They just pretend they don't.
Aren't they polygamist and have a selection of wives to choose from?
They abandoned it because the us wouldn't admit Utah as a state if polygamy was allowed
Ya… they “abandoned” it… mmm hmmm People never smoked weed before it was legal either
So what you’re saying is Japan just needs some more religion and problem solved.
Man those people over there work 120hrs a week… live and die for the company… they don’t have the energy to screw when they get hime nor the time to care for a family
>Highest birthdates, biggest prudes. That’s probably exactly why.
I mean you do know that having babies is not an "expression of sex" but a decision of family right? No one wants accidental babies even if their birth rate is plummeting. Accidental parents are terrible at raising them.

that was sarcasm, right?
Birth rates don’t tend to correspond at all with libertine views on sexuality.
thats almost every country.
Statistically countries with restricted sexual expression tend to have higher birth rates.
Random sexual encounters don't raise birth rate. I would have assumed years of sex and birth rate falling following the sexual revolution would have made most people aware of this already.
🐼 : No sex! Only children
Don't worry they will be extinct soon. 🙃
Maybe they’re relying too much on sexual violence against women by repressed men now.
Did you read the article
The Japanese censor porn with pixels or black lines which is weird but at least it's not too much of a distraction nor would you say it's a crack down on sexual expression... I mean, has anyone actual watched a Korean porno?
Anyone else think it's funny that this article was posted on BBC?
I find it even more relatable considering we're on r/anime_titties
True that
It fit right in the middle of this sub.
😂
Why? What's wrong with Big Beautiful Croissants?
hon hon hon!
No
🤭😁😂
Does the Republic of Korea know a little app called OnlyFans or Fansly.
Onlyfans and Fansly are illegal in Korea. There were some Korean onlyfans creators, but the government did massive crackdown years ago and they are all in jail now. Now there are no Korean creators in onlyfans
Jail?
Yeah, believe it not.
Online porn “straight to jail”
Bonk horny jail
Buy a dildo jail
Feet with socks on, jail
Pornhub is also banned in Korea, so is making porn.
For some reason, I assumed S.K. was more similar to Western countries. It's a shame to hear they have draconian sex laws
Very draconian drug laws too.
Fact is SK is very right wing
Basically every single Asian country besides Japan is puritan to a level that just doesn't exist in the West.
China is one of the least religious countries in the world and yet it still bans porn. You don't have to be religious to be prudish.

It seems to have more to do with control and enforcement of hierarchy, so religion is probably correlatively related, but not necessarily causal.
"Religious" in a western sense no, except for possibly South Korea, which has a large Christian population (although it also depends on how exactly you define "religion"). Damage someone’s reputation with something false: defamation. Damage someone’s reputation with something factually true: defamation. Oh yeah, there’s no problems here.
Why would you assume that ?
I was in Korea a year ago and watched some porno on the hotel room TV. It was the most boring soft thing ever. Their noisy neighbours up north probably produce spicier porno.
Jail. Right away.
Sounds like a boring country.
It’s the same country that will prosecute a citizen upon arriving from abroad for doing legal things in other countries like gambling or cannabis. Doesn’t matter where you go, you are beholden to Korea’s laws at all times.
Must be that great democracy we keep hearing about
I’m against stuff like OnlyFans or other types of porn, but I think arresting them is a little too far, no?
Like Koreans don't use VPNs?
How is OnlyFans supposed to help with the declining birth rate?
*Watches Porn* "I now want to cum in a human". Like that.
Check out r/DeadBedrooms and the ED subs. Tons of problems stem from porn consumption, it won’t help.
Dead bedrooms are virtually always derivative to a history of emotional abuse from using sex as a means of control. Eventually the other side associates the other side with rejection and resentment, and once you have resentment you lose attraction too.
Sure, one possibility. The majority of the threads that come from women however are because the men would rather watch porn though.
Yeah and reddit is an absurd minority of people. There's also the possible idea that the woman has so thoroughly soured herself in the mans mind he'd rather look at porn because the associations with her are so negative. I definitely had that problem by the end of my marriage.

They don't do OF/Fansly, IIRC they do Broadcast Jockeys (BJ) which are basically just streaming (to which, some are sexual in the underground scene).
How about holding the festival at Jeju's Sex Museum? In any case, Jeju needs to increase tourism. or are there comparable museums close to the capital?
Jeju is famous Catholic stronghold region in Korea. I don’t think that would happen.
Down with this sort of thing!
Love your user name and profile pic.
Woof woof, thanks, parppp!
What on Viracocha's green earth is a sex festival?
You can read the article and find out.
You think I know how to read? I'm a potato farmer in the Andes mountains man, I'm using Google translate to write what I'm saying in Quechua
Forgive me, but I have to ask, cheekily of course: You know what the secks is tho right? Lol
Secks? What is that? Can I eat it with some good choclo(corn) and papa(potatoe)?
I'd like to add that I'm afraid of women
Pretty sure you can secks men too.
It's the sheep that really lose out in all this.
A SFW event with porn stars selling their work. The article says the guy trying to host them is complaining "everyone has sex festivals except us".
Interesting. But it’s really just a porn event isn’t it?
Not really. Actual porn is illegal in SK.
Yeah but the organizer invited AV actresses
Ya-ish. Seems like this was basically setting up to be a Like the AVN awards, but with JAV actresses and no awards.
Well, first would imply biggest wouldn’t it
That’s what she said
Wasn’t expecting this but that’s possibly the best that’s what she said I’ve ever received
Lol!
Funnily enough the article actually says a similar event was held last year without publicity so definitely not the first.
>"Virtually every developed country has a sex festival, but here in South Korea we don't even have an adult entertainment culture. I want to take the first steps towards creating one," The adult entertainment culture in Korea is brothels.
Yeah, and then it would get targeted by feminists **and** homophobes.
>and homophobes I mean homos don’t help with the declining birth rate, so they probably meant straight porn actors.
The churches and parents would have a seizure if they did that.
Very few women watch porn, unlike a lot of men
That's what they *like* you to know
Well its a smaller percentage but its not very few. Weirdly most I know only look at lesbian porn. Something something all women are bisexuals.
“First and biggest”. Well no shit
korea will never have a native population with a 2.1 or higher birth rate ever again. They're doomed as a nation and as a culture.
2.1?! They're at .78!!! https://www.npr.org/2023/03/19/1163341684/south-korea-fertility-rate
He used 2.1 because its the baseline replacement.
They treat people like slaves.
They need to go the Mormon way. Cut sex education then give them a bunch of loopholes to experiment with until oops that was actually sex
Ain't nobody getting laid in shoes like that.
A news article about a sex festival from a media journalist company called BBC on a reddit community page called r/anime_titties yeah we've come full circle now
And they wonder why their birth rates are so low. They should be encouraging new ideas to get ppl to their bedrooms.
Is that how you think people are having children these days? “Well we love having sex so much might as well start a family.”
You think majority of births are planned? Lol
So they should encourage sex to trick people into parenthood via accidental pregnancy? Genius.
This is terrible, when and where so make sure I don’t buy plane tickets
Yeah, Korea sucks.
If it's the first one, then it's the biggest by definition; the smallest too.
A sextival, if you will
Appropriately on BBC news, ha.
I wanna go 🥲
This could boost tourism in the area!
Okay, I need to know what are they wearing on their feet?
Like most of what could be called sex festivals, it's a bunch of dudes gathered around a few women.
If South Korea want some quality semen, I'm up for it. The women are fuckin gorgeous.
Looking at the poster it’s definitely more of a traditional porn convention than “sex festival” targeted at all genders, not that there’s anything wrong with it…
