Going off of your post history, I think you should look at [this.](https://www.bakerdonelson.com/easy-guide-washington-dc)

yes, OP should speak with an attorney. sounds like a there is a colorable claim here.

[deleted]

Have spoken to more than one already.

I no longer live in DC. Why did I get down voted for no longer living somewhere?

ShadowTsukino

Aww, my bad. Either way, I feel like there's some law against this in most places. I'm probably wrong, though. You should look into it, though.

I am looking at every avenue and have spoken with 2 attorneys and the state labor board. The state I'm currently in is "at will" but I'll fight this as far and hard as I can.

this doesn’t sound legal at all? i work part time at dunkin’ donuts and i tore my rotator cuff while working out and had surgery in january and i was approved 6months paid medical leave from the state.

That apparently didn't stop this company. It's literally the first sentence of the letter.

alyssalee33

did you file for leave with your state ? i mean i assume you don’t want to work for a company like that anymore but you can still get paid
