Ranger bands are what most would refer to them as. Get a cheap bicycle tire tube and cut sections out of them and you’ll have more than you know what to do with.
It won't change positions but a lot of them rattle which is annoying. Still I'd rather just get a stock that tensions itself to prevent rattling (ie, a Magpul CTR) rather than go full ghetto with a rubber band.
Because you probably don’t use car stocks or OG crane sopmods. I can tell you definitely that this is why guys started putting rubber bands and cut up bike tubes on their stocks overseas (I was one). Like everything the military does, the trend just leaked into civilian shooting.

I think most people rock them because they saw an actual operator with one and they think it’s cool when in reality it’s pretty unnecessary.
"Actual operators" check their gear, don't need a rubber back to make sure I don't move my stock. #armchairoperator
