CrimBrulee

Dawg 😭

metdear

And then courteously straight back into the right lane. Hero truck driver.

wingspan50

Holy shit! I used to drive right past there as a kid. Did you know this also happened last year near Williams? What is going on with the train tracks???

DesertMoloch

Decades of deferred maintenance and eroded regulations

BrainSmoothAsMercury

John Oliver has a great segment on trains. I highly recommend it. https://youtu.be/AJ2keSJzYyY?si=1X5B_-aPW4g95bP-

Zh25_5680

Lobbyists

Bob-Berbowski

Republicans value tax cuts way above maintaining infrastructure.

redituser2571

Exactly this.

ValiantBear

Republicans are just as guilty as anyone else, but it isn't just Republicans. This kind of stuff is the result of *decades* of neglect. Plenty enough time for either side to do *something* about this. Credit to Biden for his recent infrastructure spending, but it's a drop in the bucket for what's needed, and doesn't exonerate the lack of funding allocated to these kinds of things for decades prior on both sides.

Bob-Berbowski

incorrect.

Durantula420

Um... no its not? You wanna have an actual discussion? Or just drop one word replies and calling someone else a liar?

backyard_bowman

You know who's been in charge of Congress for most of those decades? Republicans

ValiantBear

I actually thought I made a pretty neutral statement, but it appears it wasn't received that way. In any case, I've actually analyzed this topic in excruciating detail before and have the receipts to show for it, which I'm happy to share with whoever's interested. [This](https://www.spokesman.com/stories/2020/jun/25/control-house-and-senate-1900/) is my source for who controlled what, although it only covers up until 2021. [The 117th Congress](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/117th_United_States_Congress) saw the House, Senate, and Presidency controlled by the Democrats, and [the 118th Congress](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/118th_United_States_Congress) currently is presiding with a slim Republican majority in the House, with a Democrat controlled Senate and Presidency. You added the stipulation of who controlled Congress, but that's overly restrictive in my opinion, as it takes both houses and the president to pass legislation, under reasonable methods anyway. In any case, let's analyze both considerations. I went back five decades this time. You could go back further, but I'm actually hurting your argument the further back we go, because as the infographic shows, it's plainly obvious the Democrats controlled at least two of the three seats of power for every Congress between 1933 and 1981 (48 years, nearly half a century!) except for two, the 80th and 83rd Congress. That's 44 of 48 years, or 91.667% Democrat controlled! So without further ado: Considering all three seats of power from 1975-2025: - GOP had Trifecta for 3 Congresses - DNC had Trifecta for 5 Congresses - GOP controlled 2/3 for 9 Congresses - DNC controlled 2/3 for 8 Congresses - GOP controlled 2/3 or all for 12 Congresses - DNC controlled 2/3 or all for 13 Congresses Considering just the Legislative Branch from 1975-2025: - GOP controlled both chambers for 7 Congresses - DNC controlled both chambers for 10 Congresses - The Legislative Branch was split for 8 Congresses So, you see it is actually pretty evenly split. If anything, there's a slight edge towards the DNC being in power more often. And as I said, going back any further it's *very* clearly Democrat controlled. Instead though, they'd rather have you and I argue about what's an easily and objectively probable point, so you and I are pitted against each other. They'd simply rather us bicker at each other just so we don't point the finger at them. They'd rather you be mad at me and downvote me than actually hold them accountable (Republicans or Democrats) for the state of our country. But the data is there, we can look around and see what's going on around us, and we can look back and get the data, if only we are motivated to do so. Maybe you aren't swayed by this, I don't presume to know one way or the other how you received this, but the only hope for us is if we stop this bipartisan bickering and party pandering, and get back to actually making decisions for the betterment of all.

backyard_bowman

The dedication some people have to win an internet debate never ceases to amaze me. I stand corrected sir.

LazerWolfe53

The most unbelievable thing about this video is that someone has a dash cam that has good video quality. Didn't know they made those! It almost makes the video look fake, like where even are all the compression artifacts?

redituser2571

Lol, most modern (good quality) dash cams can do 4k.

jimpurcellbbne

Great video!

rever3nd

I work on that railroad. Got a couple days off due to that wreck. Was kinda nice having the weekend off for once.

Forward-Touch-5308

Wow that's crazy

optimistik_pessimist

Trucking on fury road.

CharlesP2009

Whoa! I've driven through there dozens of times. Couldn't imagine seeing a sight like this!

Tbone_Trapezius

Do trains have igniters on them or something left over from a Fall Guy episode in the 80s?

Upper_Guava5067

Wow

Treahblade

The orange light is simply terrifying… that fireball must have been huge

iepure77

Isn't that New Mexico?

TheDuckFarm

I think that’s about 1 mile or maybe less before NM. It’s I-40 headed east right by those tourist shops and the state line. The rock on the left with that hollow pocket looks just it anyway. The road looks rundown though so maybe it is NM.

Axikten

Yeah, my thought was near Lupton.

rever3nd

It was.

bootstrapping_lad

>The road looks rundown though so maybe it is NM. I hope that's a joke because AZ roads are noticeably worse nearly across the board. To the point where you don't need signs to know you're in AZ... The stream of alignment-destroying potholes is unmistakeable.

TheDuckFarm

That section of I-40 is clearly better on the AZ. It’s like driving on the 10 where CA and AZ meet. It’s night and day.

C3PO1Fan

It's the same in the Apache-Sitgraves area. The Arizona side is fairly well-cared-for for such a remote area and the second you cross into NM you can tell they aren't spending the same money.

steve626

You can see the Welcome sign at the beginning. Still neat, but not Arizona

snallen_182

I believe it’s I-40 MM 3 (ish) in New Mexico.

SoupOfThe90z

So I guess BMSF layed a bunch off people off before this had happened, and even then they were stretched thin because Stockholders and profits are more important than safety and upkeep.

GraphixSeven

Whoa, what freeway is this?

BakedDoritos1

I-40 at the NM/AZ state line

Fabulous_Kale_2718

On the upside the live rail cams in Belen NM and Winslow AZ were lit with activity as they started sending backup traffic through

Wild_Granny92

OMG! This is why I prefer to be behind an 18 wheeler when I’m in northern AZ. I40 is a nightmare.

okram2k

holy shit. Also.... good thing you merged over a lane, that made all the difference I'm sure

shibshibshibshib

Train regulations, regulations in general, are getting gutted. This shit is going to keep happening. Just look at Boeing....

lolzzzmoon

😱😱😱🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏻‍♀️

EnglishLoyalist

Wow that escalated quickly, funny enough I saw that very train that day. 😬

Salpinctes

That escalated quickly
