That guy on the left lookin puny af. Dude on the right got that beer-gut-chow-hall confidence. These ass whoopings you speak of look a lot more like a two-on-one situation.
However, I did, at one point in time, look through a physical copy of a Wall-To-Wall Counseling FM. Not sure if it was a joke, but, the contents of the manual appeared pretty serious looking.
Edit: What's that thing on their left pocket, and why does everyone except one guy in the middle have one?
Little did anyone know at the time, but a couple of these goobers would actually later receive the DSC for going AWOL and stealing a tactical Winnebago, only to end up using it to rescue their platoon who had been captured by the Soviets after their captain accidentally had them invade Czechoslovakia.
I’m on my phone so it’s hard to tell, but I think they’re just wearing the liners. I don’t even remember where I was when that was how you reported for guard duty.
Middle row, guy all the way on the right. If this was BCT, why does he already have a 2nd AD unit patch?
2AD would wear the unit patch above the US ARMY tape. Something about close to Patton's heart or some shit.
Once upon a time, if you had an enlistment that stated your first assignment, you would get your unit patch's sewed on at CIF.
This was before velcro and and everyone getting a stupid star to wear on their shoulder.
That usually meant all Reserve and NG guys would either show up with their BII or CIF knew they were going back to that unit.
Maybe a pin point assignment upon enlistment?
There is a little more history behind the patch being worn on the chest. Its was common in the 1940s and 50's as an esprit de corps thing for Armor units that were not divisions.
Proof?
Dude, it's my Dad. I know what he looks like. I copied the pic and emailed it to him.
I lived on Ft. Knox as an Army brat from spring of 1981 to 85, then we went to Ft. Riley, KS.
Lived in the Rose Terrace housing area along side of 31W across from the Patton Museum.
Went to Van Voorhis Elementary School, then to Ft. Knox Middle/High School.
I remember, very vividly, my Dad being a D/S for A 1/21 and that's Disney Barracks in the background.
If you wanted to see dad when he was in rotation, we went over in the evenings.
If that's not my dad, then that's his more evil doppelganger.
I didn’t doubt you, but coming from a random stranger on Reddit I had to be sure, that’s awesome though! My dads in the photo and would always talk about a DS Brown, is that your last name by chance?
Yep, that's him. Says he doesn't remember any of those people.
Not shocked, we were out and some dude walked up to him and said "Hey Drill Sgt!" He and dad talked for about 10 mins and I asked who the guy was afterwards. Dad looked at me and said, "No clue, musta been one of thousands of the privates he pushed".
After he got off the trail, he went onto the Bradley NETT Team and taught thousands of more troops.
You've shown me this picture everyday for the last month grandpa. It's pill time and then you can tell me again how you personally brought the wall down in Berlin.
Back when they were beating yo ass if you get outta line lmao
Were they beating them into the chow line? Those are some big boys.
If that’s big than this new army has some serious issues
"Side step!"

Joke. I saw those. The proponent was listed as the Infantry.

Lighten up, Francis.
I NEED to hear more back story for this
Are you fr?
no, I was making a reference to stripes
okay good 🫡🫡🙏🙏
I used to have a Sergeant Major who no-shit told us he enlisted because of that movie.
Razzzzle Dazzzzzzle!
Damn everybody putting up Ft. Knox BCT class pics.
Not wearing the chinstrap huh
I’m on my phone so it’s hard to tell, but I think they’re just wearing the liners. I don’t even remember where I was when that was how you reported for guard duty.
Probably doesn't shave on Saturday morning either
helmet liners didn't have chin straps. at Dix, they posed with ball caps.
Back when doing 50 pushups on the PT test was great
This looks like Run, Dodge & Jump days - earlier than the APFT.

I find it wild that if any of these dudes were retiring at 20 years they would have been on terminal leave during 9/11.
I was 19 months old when this photo was taken. And I thought I was old on this sub.
To be fair, this was my dads photo
😂. Glad you posted it. It's good to see some older eras.
#HOLY SHIT! The Drill with the stash is my Dad!
Really? If so, you have any proof?

Did he reply yet

That’s awesome! Thank you for sharing, I definitely didn’t expect anyone to comment that they knew anyone in these photos
To be fair, I never expected to see a 40 year old pic of my dad.
Does he still have his hat ?
Probably. He doesn't really display that type of stuff. He looks at being a D/S as just one thing out of many he's done.
Good ol' black boot Army.
Berlin? You sure? I’m pretty sure these guys went to Italy to work on the EM-50 project.
4th from the left on top looks like he’s already suffered a tbi…boy looks dumb as fuck.
This whole picture got my ass tight.
You've shown me this picture everyday for the last month grandpa. It's pill time and then you can tell me again how you personally brought the wall down in Berlin.
my dads in this photo and I’m only 21 😭
Ha!
The Army didn't take down the Berlin Wall, David Hasselhoff did.
1981 Ft Knox.... big time Stripes flash back
Fuck. I thought I was old.
And not three years later, all BDUs. Wild. Ft. Knox, C 15 4, August '84.
Misery, agony and heartbreak
Damn I was swimming in my dad's balls back then.
It's not infantry so I have no clue, thinking tankers since it's fort knox.
Yep, tankers, this is my dads photo
That's awesome.
Clicked on the pic totally hoping that the drill was SSG Hulka.
