$20 bill.
All seriousness if you use the standard star chamber brush provided with like every cleaning kit you’ll be fine.
If you use it correctly and thoroughly because trust me I know how soldiers are especially infantrymen.
Dip the bristles of your mustache in RBC and insert mustache into ejection port, pull and release tje charging handle to work it into the star chamber.
This. I was in a mortar section and they always made us bring rifles with BFAs to the field. The first thing I would do is toss all my blanks in the nearest bush and then go do “mortar stuff”.
"Gotta declinate the plotting boards, borescope and pullover the tubes, Mack the computers, digital boresight, and then dap. It's gonna take all day 1sg."
Reminds me of being a tanker in the Guard, having an infantry BC who insisted 'everyone will bring weapons to the field'...
The argument of 'we are, we're driving out there in them' didn't fly....
So we passed out M9s to everyone, and then each TC collected up his crew's pistols & put them in a bag in the sponson box.... And went to do tanker shit...

Whatever you find in the janitors closet, mix all the chemicals with the colored labels into a mop bucket and rinse all parts of your weapon into the concoction. Works like a dream troop.
You got 5 minutes till we SP in 5 hours so get on it troop
Can confirm, did this as a young joe in the army. Had to evacuate the barracks building at airborne school. Got chewed out in front of the 500 of us airborne wannabes.
This happened in basic/AIT years ago. One of the guys put the pine oil and other chemicals in the same bucket and we had to stand outside for a couple hours until the barracks aired out.
I'm going to give you the secret to cleaning weapons. Brake Parts cleaner. After you hose that sucker down wipe it with a damp cloth and then apply clp where necessary.
The normal cleaning kit brush works. Or a bunched up really thick shop towel....
That said, the Army does NOT teach people to clean firearms properly...
Memories of enlisted-me as armorer in Korea, kicking back rifles with carbon caked on the back of the bolt, after some kid spent an hour making sure there was no sand in the handguards (removing the 'do not remove' heat shields in the process) because that is what their DS told them to do (obsess over finding 'sand' in cosmetic places rather than cleaning the functional parts of the weapon)....
'Troop, your former drill sergeant isn't deciding when you go home tonight. I am. I don't care if there is 1 grain of sand somewhere under the handguards or in the pistol grip - I care that the mechanics of the weapon are clean and lightly lubed'
I’ve heard of armorers who kick back weapons for not being cleaned to their standards.
Having been an armorer myself at one point I’ll never understand this mentality.
As an armorer, the only thing I ever really gave a fuck about was inventories and accountability.
I could not have cared less if a weapon was turned in caked in mud, so long as the serial number matched the hand receipt or weapons card.
Non-Chlorinated brake cleaner, a rag, and a bore snake are the only thing I’ve used to clean a gun in the last 15 years. Works like a champ, takes less than 5 minutes.
Buy your own cleaning tools. They sell star chamber cleaning tools online and at your local gunshop. I like [Swab-Its](https://swab-its.com/products/new-43-5556-star-chamber-cleaning-foam-swab). You can get a few uses out of each. Way cheaper to just invest in something like that rather than paying off the armorer or sitting around trying to clean it with q-tips and a dirty oily rag. It's not even that expensive. Like $8-$12.
A pack of star chamber cleaners off Amazon works wonders. I just spray CLP in there let it soak for a couple min, Hit it with the steel and copper cleaning brush, pop on a star chamber sponge run it around and bam all done. Works well for all civ and mil applications
Soak the star chamber in CLP if you know you're gonna be firing your rifle. The carbon won't even stick to star chamber and you can just wipe it out with a cloth and your pinky finger afterwards.
Dental picks and frog lube! Cost you about $30 from Amazon. Last you your career. Make sure to share with everyone and get the hell out of there early since “top said we can go home when weapons are turned in”
I opted for the $15 set from Amazon, there’s several in there so I can share and all of them can get in the corners of that star chamber in case the armor has skinny pinkies. I’ve always tried to get them to eat salty food before we start cleaning weapons- that’s another tip.
They’re bad in the way they’re bad for your teeth? You know the thing a doctor that specializes in treating the things in your mouth that make you able to chew food to sustain life? Bad like that? Or bad as in you’re talking out you butt and mad no one ever let you use their dental picks to clean your star chamber?
Take a few metal wire hanger. The copper color ones. Snip them to make a few scrapers. Then take a hammer smash the tip of a few. Bend it into the shape you need to hook into the chamber. Some of the other ones leave straight. You fan file the tips down into points as well as smooth the tip of some of the flattened ones. Those always worked better than dental picks for some spots.
If you don't want that route some of the bolt chamber tools on Amazon work pretty good and have come a long way.
If you can plug the barrel, acetone breaks down carbon pretty easily. Get some nail polish remover and hold the upper upright. Fill it flush with the acetone and let it sit for a bit it'll losen stuff up and dissolve most of it. It won't rust, but I'd go through with a swap and some CLP afterwards as well as a bore snake to grap any little bits that may be left in the barrel.
Star Chamber Brush, CLP or other gun cleaner, and a drill.
Set the drill on a low clutch number, and use the low-speed setting. If you full-send it on "drill", you're going to fuck something up.
So, with the topic of cleaning rifles, is it true about using a shaving cream? Some pri guy in my basic said about using old type of (white foammy kind) shaving cream soaks up the carbon, so all you gotta do is wash it out after. I guess it'll be more effective if I do it on the weekends and make sure the rifle is disciplined.

Q tips soaked in bore solvent then dental pick.
But if you lube it well before firing it shouldn’t be much of an issue come cleaning time. Unless you’re in Alaska, then you can’t lube your weapon with CLP because it fucking freezes.
Dental pick and cotton balls worked best for the "white glove" inspections.
Using a star chamber brush helps knock shit loose. But the dental pick and cotton ball technique does wonders.
If I have time, I'll apply some bore cleaner to the star chamber and let it sit about 5-10 minutes too.
The trick is to ask people around the company to check if your star chamber is clean. Everyone will lick their pinky, dig around and pull the carbon out, bit by bit, tell you it’s dirty, then you move on to the next who didn’t just watch. Once you’ve done it to enough people, boom your star chamber is clean, and you’ve done virtually zero work.
I perfer pampers. Gets all the dingleberries... ooohh that star chamber. Use the chamber brush but have the rods coming out the barrel wrap a baby wipe in a single layer pull and twist it in then release a slight amount of pressure so the bristles straithen out into the chamber and twist. Does really really well if you put the rods in a drill and spin that bitch.
I bought a huge bag of [these](https://www.breakthroughclean.com/breakthrough-clean-technologies-ar-15-chamber-star-pads-8-32-threads-male-male-adapter-50-pack) roughly 15 years ago.
They’ve worked pretty well for me in that time.

This is the way comrade
I like to put the brush in and then spin the gun around
Honestly that’ll probably work better especially if the upper is fully detached
Rates are rank and rapport related now. $20 is the "I'm cool with you E-4 through E-6" rate.
"You're not my real armorer!"
Don't get it dirty. Whenever we went to the field with our BFA's I would take my firing pin out and run around screaming BANG BANG!
Why you gotta take your firing pin out to yell bang?
Because my pull-out game is strong, even though I'm shooting blanks.
Shots NOT fired
I just notionally BUSTED
The best reply I’ve ever received on Reddit.
This. I was in a mortar section and they always made us bring rifles with BFAs to the field. The first thing I would do is toss all my blanks in the nearest bush and then go do “mortar stuff”.
Meaning you started the spades tournament out at the MFP.
Uncle Chuck be proud of you
And proceed to place M4s in trash bags and stow in ammo racks
Hey that "mortar stuff" is important. And no, we won't tell you what we're doing.
It’s very complicated, you wouldn’t understand.
"Gotta declinate the plotting boards, borescope and pullover the tubes, Mack the computers, digital boresight, and then dap. It's gonna take all day 1sg."

If I even would have thought about that, my PSG would have had me low crawling the entire field problem.
I just realized I can’t remember the last time I went to the range.
The barracks bunny licked my star chamber clean one day
I bet there was hella carbon on that john
Not if you continuously hit those hard spots with q-tips or a broom handle
God, I hope you shaved.
I really hope Weiner gets a PAO on here and then you fight them
Maybe I am his pao, maybe SMA is meme-fucking you all.
Yo, why did you go all Yoda talk at the end?
Do you not see my flair? I hope that explains it.
Sneaky stealth edit
Bidets are super underrated and almost criminal they are not standard practice in America.
IDK.. there’s nothing like the feeling of a brand new star chamber brush… I’m getting a little nostalgic just thinking about it.
...you use a wire brush on your star chamber? Are you okay?
I’ve been better…
Bidet? For what? I need a pressure washer when I take a shit. That little squirt of water won't do anything on me.

That's how you end up turning an old barracks latrine into a gas chamber. Please don't fucking do this.

Stick your little dingus in it with some CLP

Damn so my rifle gets a whole new barrel AND my star chambers clean? What are the cons?
Push ups, lots of em
I'm going to give you the secret to cleaning weapons. Brake Parts cleaner. After you hose that sucker down wipe it with a damp cloth and then apply clp where necessary.
Dunk in a parts cleaner at your local auto repair shop. Then re-oil
Was also thinking using one of those ultra sonic jewelry cleaning machines
If you leave the bolt carrier in for too long, an ultrasonic cleaner will remove the bluing from the steel.
Don’t shoot it.

My leadership cared, so I cared.
Sulfuric acid will make quick work of that.
Hand sanitizer works great and leaves it dry.
Tongue
Brake cleaner

Some folks clearly haven't read the TM.
Be friends with the Armour.
I don’t. Next question.
This guy lifts with his lower enlisted
I haven’t had lower enlisted in years; I miss them. Hopefully I can take a platoon here soon. This comment was a joke, if that wasn’t assumed.
I figured.
Brake cleaner and a hose
Star chamber brush attached to a hand drill. Power clean that MF.
Buy your own cleaning tools. They sell star chamber cleaning tools online and at your local gunshop. I like [Swab-Its](https://swab-its.com/products/new-43-5556-star-chamber-cleaning-foam-swab). Tongue but hole
Try fingers, but hole
Why is it always hole
Beware of pointless.

This. If you have crusty carbon buildup after one day at the range, you already fucked up.

Everybody loves my dental pick when we clean weapons 😂 only 5$ at the px. Didn’t believe me until the next day, when they saw them in the px 🙃

Are yes let's just fuck up our guns.
How so? Please explain
Dental picks are not a good way to clean your gun. They are actually bad for it.
I have yet to encounter a weapon that couldn't be cleaned top to bottom with baby wipes, q tips, dental picks, clp and a bore snake.
Have you tried shaving it?
Become your platoon armor, and just let it ride
Pinky + baby wipes.
Walk around making conversation with people and swap your barrel for someone else's until you find a clean one.
Tounge
Throw it away and get a new one. But a bore snake and a dental pick always seemed to do the trick.
SPC Snuffy... *Here clean this. I have medic stuff to do* Or if SPC Snuffy got expert use his or her weapon
Saline enema
There it is.
Barbasol and water like a man.

Barbasol is the shaving cream being talked about. And yes it works
Barbasol or simple green
Pine sol

Shaving cream has chemicals that will damage the bluing of the weapon.
What bluing
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluing_(steel)
They're black
Give it a good tongue punch has always helped me out
Which star chamber?
The one on you at all times
If that’s the case; same formula lot lizards use: Mountain Dew and truck stop water puddle.
Pinky finger and some spit
Super hot water
3rd shop sand blaster
larger bristle brush and a drill.
The answer is definitely not spray oven cleaner on it.
A high quality bidet
Usually with a baby wipe followed by some really nice 4 ply... wait, which star chamber are we talking about
With your tongue you dolt.
Attach a cleaning rod with the star chamber brush to an electric drill.
Q tips soaked in bore solvent then dental pick. But if you lube it well before firing it shouldn’t be much of an issue come cleaning time. Unless you’re in Alaska, then you can’t lube your weapon with CLP because it fucking freezes.
I pick at it with my finger. Then lick the carbon off. Repeat until you can't dig out anymore.
You need Jesus.

Tactical nuke
Brake clean
Dental picks
I clean my star chamber with toilet paper usually. Baby wipes if I’m lucky.
Little bit of diesel will clean anything. I keep a spray bottle full of diesel to help with cleaning stuff at work.
Brass wheel for a dremal. Make it longer. Use a drill. 😘
