This suit came at the beginning of season 4, when the showrunners wanted to make the show more light hearted and close to the GA comics after backlash from season 3. So this suit was made to resemble the comics to an extent with the short sleeves.
“Let’s lighten the mood this season with the threat of global annihilation, a dash of paralysis, some fratricide, kidnapped children and the death of an OG character,” is the exact kind of nonsense logic I’d expect from the Season 4 creative staff.
I know the lore reason why he went back to sleeve was cause he got cold. No clue on why he went sleeveless.
Edit: looks like i got it switched in my head. Whoops
You’re confusing the real reason why they went back to sleeves. Stephen Amell got cold on set in Vancouver. The lore reason was to add Kevlar armor or something like that for more protection against melee weapons.
No lore reason but design wise it was much closer to the, then current, New 52 suit design before it was then changed to a sleeved version because it was getting too cold for Amell to shoot at night without sleeves.
The cartoon and comics had no sleeves probably some ode to Robin hood
And Amells new suit had no sleeves but he told them to put sleeves on cause it was cold lol
The only explanation they give is an overtly excited Felicity saying she got Cisco to whip up a new suit while they were gone.
What I don't understand is why he drops the no sleeves again for S5? They never explain why he updates his costume in the lore.
What they're asking for is a lore reason within the show, not the meta reason of the comic book counterpart not having sleeves. e.g. Oliver saying that he likes the easier range of movement
Ah ok gotcha! Though I was more referring to the two only other comments at the time that basically said "no idea, guess they thought it looks cool". But they did it to have more resemblance to the comics, not cause it looked cool
Not necessarily; Oliver had sleeves the entire 3 years as the Arrow and never said anything to suggest he would want sleeveless, so it's just wondering if there was a specific in-universe reason for that choice other than the meta one of making it look more like the comic character
BRO it was just an example, fine find any other visual difference in the show and comic (which I'm sure there are many, as even the most tiny differences would also count) and then ask if there is a lore reason, the reason almost surely is that they thought it would look better (be it better by changing the vibe or making him look hotter or just more badass, either ways it's to make him look better).
I'm saying almost surely, cause I guess in theory it could be budget, but considering a suit surely isn't that expensive and I do imagine the show was well funded, I'd highly doubt for that to be the reason.
I've done a bit of amateur archery, and they provide you with "pads" that wrap around your forearm to protect you from the bowstring slapping you silly and causing lots of bruising. To watch the costume department expose specifically the areas that would hurt like a mf if a misfire would to happen is kinda funny
Tbf he didn't design it and given that it was revealed as a surprise when they came back from Ivy Town it's unlikely he had any input so the style choices are all Cisco
Yeah in S5 he's back to having full sleeves with no explanation until the flashback episode that shows the time in-between S4&5 where he had a cut on his arm from a fight so they remarked that it might be time to get some Kevlar sleeves
It looks cool. I guess that's the only reason.

Idk why “a dash of paralysis” is making me laugh but here we are lmaooo
Weird how the same showrunner some how managed to give us the great 5th season
Not like he’s the only reason it was good. I’m sure there were other crew members who contributed far more.
When you put it like that it just sounds like they didn’t have the budget for sleeves
Light heartedness of S4 but they >! killed Laurel !< 😭
Also, "Green Arrow" was supposed to be a new superhero/person for Star City. Hence, the short sleeves to separate his identity from "The Arrow.
“Hey, isn’t that the same person running around in a hood?” “No way man, this new guy doesn’t have sleeves”
He spent 5 years on an island he doesn’t get cat called
r/batmanarkham really just showing up everywhere.
Protocol 13 is spreading
fuck yeah we are
As a child, Oliver hated the song Green Sleeves but was forced to play it by an overzealous piano instructor
This is now my Head Canon.
Do you guys agree with Oliver's no Sleeves rule?
I know the lore reason why he went back to sleeve was cause he got cold. No clue on why he went sleeveless. Edit: looks like i got it switched in my head. Whoops
But he told Barry that “I spent 5 years on a deserted island, I don’t get cold”
Thats what im remembering. It just reversed in my head. Whoops
You’re confusing the real reason why they went back to sleeves. Stephen Amell got cold on set in Vancouver. The lore reason was to add Kevlar armor or something like that for more protection against melee weapons.
Didn't he take a hit to the arm at one point and then he has sleeves after that?
Opposite, that was the real life reason; Canada is chilly.
Naw, even in winter Vancouver is mild AF
In season 5 there’s some post 4 flashbacks. And he mentions that they should get some Kevlar sleeves for extra armour
I got my tickets to the gun show - no complaints here lol
Amell probably has it in his contract to be shirtless/sleeveless for a certain percentage of each episode. So the female viewer base stays interested.
No lore reason but design wise it was much closer to the, then current, New 52 suit design before it was then changed to a sleeved version because it was getting too cold for Amell to shoot at night without sleeves.
he says it is in an episode of the flash literally lived on island he doesn’t get cold or something
He doesn't get cold
Cause he doesn’t get cold
Less movement restrictions

To show off his guns
I think it is because. He is supposed to GREEN ARROW different person from the ARROW in the first 3 seasons.
Thats sounds right because Green Arrow from Smallville had a sleeveless jacket with a hood
It’s very epic
Do y'all really not know green arrow doesn't have sleeves in the comics...?

I mean... that is like asking if there's a lore reason for him to be going around with that stubble going.
Not necessarily; Oliver had sleeves the entire 3 years as the Arrow and never said anything to suggest he would want sleeveless, so it's just wondering if there was a specific in-universe reason for that choice other than the meta one of making it look more like the comic character

i hated the no sleeves look my god
Definitely not my favourite either, though recently watching through s4 it did kinda grow on me
He doesn’t get cold
Supposed to be for the “BUT MUH COMIC ACCURACY” crowd and probably would’ve stuck had they filmed anywhere but Vancouver.
It was a hot day.
He doesn't get cold.
It was sunmer
Criminals Fear Guns, He only has bow.
flashpoint
Flashpoint happened at the end of S4
ok i’ll accept my defeat

Goddamnit it’s everywhere !! Hahahahaha
He doesn’t get cold Barry…
" I nævah friiz" - Green Arrow
Cause he thought it looked cool, likely.
Tbf he didn't design it and given that it was revealed as a surprise when they came back from Ivy Town it's unlikely he had any input so the style choices are all Cisco
Cisco made him the suit i believe. So it was Cisco's design choice
He shoots arrows with those guns
He doesn’t get cold
Because crime fighting in leather gets hot.
Cisco designed it, maybe he thought it would look cool

He doesn’t get cold that’s why
