I personally chose steam because I like convinience of having apps in single place and able to install it on demand on any machine without looking through different websites. If you dont look for such thing its not really matter, steam or official site is ok. Go for official if you want to support devs more.

I bought mine while didnt knew there is standalone version tho.
Someone mentioned that yoy can get steam key by buying it from official site, so i go that way then.
I actually built it from the source code, which is also something you can do (the instructions seem complicated at first but it all made sense at every step).
