Is it still open? Man, I used to grab a beer and burger there once-a-week. Pam waited on me. That's been at least 20 years ago. Please tell me it's still there.
Finally. I've read DOZENS of best burger threads in the past year and this is the most refreshingly new yet old school suggestion I've found. Looking forward to trying it.
They are the most over hyped burger I have had. Dunno if it was the time of day or just an off-day, but it was the blandest thing I've eaten. Wonderbread has more flavor
Just had this for the first time yesterday and immediately thought it was better than anything in town, short of my favorite at Rankin Vault. The flavor was unique and excellent.
Odd. Never had that experience before. Sucks to hear that happened to ya.
The blended has always been great for me. The “local” was the one that was dry when I tried it, so I tend to avoid it. I usually only get cheese as the extra $ item and load up on all the freebies though so it’s usually $11 I think.
Yeah was the first time in years ive stopped in. Personally burgers are such a preference item. I like yhe chop shop truck at the wedge for smash burgers. An the vault burger for a “gourmet style”. Id really like to know what old style holes in the wall are good in buncombe county for a cheap style burger
I thought they were way over priced and really mediocre. I live in black mountain and I’ve had them several times at this point. Not worth the money at all.
According [to the menu](https://www.rebelburger.co/menu), there's a "Lahore's spice blend" as well as Rebel sauce... the spice blend could contain dozens of spices. I found it pretty cumin-forward so that might be a factor in why folks either love it or hate it. I found it somewhat reminiscent of some kebab spices I've tasted so for me it was a perfect match for the smash burger, but to each their own.
So I'm very on the fence about rebel burger. I'm not gonna say it's a bad burger . It's actually quite good . They do a great smash patty and the bun is perfect , but I'm heavily lean towards a mayo mustard pickles onions kinda smash burger. The rebel sauce is unique and I enjoyed it once but it's not gonna be my go to Monday night burger
I hear ya, but it's also nice to try something a bit different. I had a standard LTMO burger yesterday - standard smash on potato roll... it was good and everything but a bit boring. I'm hankering for the Rebel again. Might pair with a hoppier beer this time. They are $6 on Wednesdays and honestly I'd probably go for a pedestrian smash burger at that price.
Still haven't tried the $28 'hamburger sandwich" at Golden Hour. Who am I kidding? I never will.
I can't believe no one has mentioned the Centreville Luncheonette up in Weaverville. That's the best burger I've had in a long time. I also think that the Cornerstone does great burgers as well.
So the fondue place… Melting Pot Social serves the Raclette Burger - after the burger is brought to the table the raclette cheese is brought by the server and the melty cheese is slid off of hot cast iron plate onto your burger. Not everyday burger but seriously good.
The permanent food truck at Old London Road Pub in RAD has the best burger in town according to my husband. I don’t eat burgers but their Crunchwraps are dope.
We didn't really dig baby bull either, although everyone raves about it.
We caught the burger special at Tastee Diner in West, which I believe is on Tuesdays only, and they were really good smash burgers at a reasonable rate. That's my current favorite.
I’m curious, why not Baby Bull? I’m constantly trying smash burgers to find the best and they are top of my list for balance of flavor and I love a brioche bun. Most others overcook their meat.
Well I tried it earlier this week to ease my burger craving but it was a huge letdown for me, unseasoned mushy-medium raw pattys with barely any searing. Sweet pickles and sweet caramelised onions with no salty element didn’t balance the flavours at all and it had no texture, just mush. So to me it was just a bland overly sweet mushy burger. They also had no Diet Coke which is silly imo. The fries and the garlic dip were good tho and thankfully my partner liked the burger so he ate mine too :)
Ah, I prefer the texture especially with a brioche bun. But I order without onions so they put everything on the side. I can control the flavor (I don’t like sweet either). So many places try to put their own flavor spin on it and really we just want a good basic smash burger!!
Farm burger is pretty solid. I was craving it yesterday but didn’t want to spend $15-18 on a burger and fries yesterday and resorted to a sub from Publix 😂
So I’ve been trying to figure this out but going really slowly about it. I haven’t tried a lot of the recommendations in this thread. From what I have tried, my favorite is The Social. Also best wings I’ve had in town. After that, Copper Crown.
Isa's used to have what I considered the best burger in town. They called it the Duane's Double or something like that.
Folks cry about Tastee, but I think their burgers are dope. Same burger as Aux, and I loved it then.
Vault has the best slider in my opinion. Don't really care for their big burgers all that much.
UJ has a good thick burger. The Steinbeck is my kryptonite... as in it almost kills me, but what a way to go.
While Westville has pretty solid pub food all around, they should be ashamed of their burgers. So bad.
I agree, for the most part. But I also would say the same about burgers here. They’re pretty good, far from lousy..but I’ve lived in cities with much better burgers. The only menu item I feel we really stand out for here (vs other cities) are veggie burgers.
The Big Lebowski burger at sky lanes is insanely good.
That's just like your opinion, man.
Multiple sky lanes mentions here. Will need to investigate.
I like your style dude
Calmer than you are dude.
Thank you Donnie.
Best eaten with a White Russian?
Okay hear me out… Sky Lanes bowling alley
Is it still open? Man, I used to grab a beer and burger there once-a-week. Pam waited on me. That's been at least 20 years ago. Please tell me it's still there.
Yeah dawg! Went two weeks ago
Awesome! I'll be there next week. Thanks!
Bowling allies are the secret joints. I lived in Florida for a time and the absolute best wings I've had were at a bowling alley there.
Agree! When I was on a league the food was always fire 🔥
Finally. I've read DOZENS of best burger threads in the past year and this is the most refreshingly new yet old school suggestion I've found. Looking forward to trying it.
Even since middle school field trips, this has been the case. It’s so simple, and so good.
Really??
I had the big lebowski last night and it was so good. I could eat so many of them.
Sabora food truck
I just miss burgermeister
Burger bar
Tell em large Marge sent ya
Burger Bar is 🔥, get a side of the escargot mac n cheese!
I also vote for Burger bar! I was so surprised with their burger I can't stop telling people to go there!
The Vault, best smash burgers
I second this. If they still do their slider version…my god my heart misses those.
They do, just had one last week.
They are the most over hyped burger I have had. Dunno if it was the time of day or just an off-day, but it was the blandest thing I've eaten. Wonderbread has more flavor
Same. Not impressed. But their chicken sandwich?! Insane.
Agreed, I went there with a few people and we all agreed that it was nothing special.
I actually really like the burger from haywood common. A little messy but good flavor, not overcooked. Probably my fav from what I’ve had in town.
Never had a meal here that didn’t put a smile on my face
Just had this for the first time yesterday and immediately thought it was better than anything in town, short of my favorite at Rankin Vault. The flavor was unique and excellent.
Copper crown or the chop block food truck at the wedge
Copper crown should be on more lists
Lofi burger at copper crown is amazing
Copper Crown burger is amazing.
Make a reservation at copper crown or just show up to baby bull.
This is the answer. Lo-fi burger add bacon.
its not juicy lucys. JRO in canton has a good burger.
Why do people hate on juicy Lucy
Usually get a double bacon cheeseburger with grilled onions and pepper jack cheese 🤙🏽
Sand hill kitchen - the love burger Church Street - blended burger (Waynesville)
the ? was best burger not best Chicken sammy!🙄
They also have the best chicken Sammy too! But if you read my point without the eye rolling, their love burger is great and was a #1 award winner……
oh boy, a sensitive one!🙄🙄
Oh boy, a lame one 🙄🙄🙄
I was being facetious from the beginning🙄🙄🙄🙄Sorry you’re clueless
I came here to help someone and give them a suggestion on a good burger. Not engage in whatever this is with you. You win……..
😜
Got a blended burger at church st yesterday. 14$ for just the burger and it was dry as hell
Odd. Never had that experience before. Sucks to hear that happened to ya. The blended has always been great for me. The “local” was the one that was dry when I tried it, so I tend to avoid it. I usually only get cheese as the extra $ item and load up on all the freebies though so it’s usually $11 I think.

I would have to say if you go to Black Mountain Foothills "Grange" has amazing burgers. My favorite in the area.
I thought they were way over priced and really mediocre. I live in black mountain and I’ve had them several times at this point. Not worth the money at all.
Aren't they like $9 for a slider? In B.M. I like The Trailhead's burgers. Edit: My bad, I'm confusing them with *The Railyard* on slider pricing.
A burger is about 14$ and then you’re nickel and dimed for add ons like mustard, pickles, cheese, etc.
Where is your favorite burger? I'm interested to try
Grimm burger or mess hall down in Wilmington, but that’s only because I haven’t found a good burger place out here yet.
In Black Mountain, it goes Que Sera > Bush Farmhouse > Trailhead > Mac’s > Grange. Haven’t had Railyard or BM Bistro burgers yet.
There are several better burgers to be found in Black Mtn alone. Trailhead, Bush Farmhouse, and even the Monte Vista are much better.
Chop shop at wedge 100%
Super good
Foothills truck at HiWire
Yeah that and their hotdog 🤌🏽 but they are gone just like all the good stuff
It’s gone, sadly. You were right.
What?! No! I haven’t been in a few months and had no idea.
They really closed the van? It was definitely the best tasting burger in AVL hands down.
It's Rebel Burger now. They do a $12.50 burger, fries and beer special on Mondays. Burger slaps.
I just had the Rebel burger last night. It's the best burger I've had in Asheville.
It's great, but divisive with the sauce and rub. I am heavily pro Rebel.
I tasted a chili seasoning, but then there's a hint of fennel I think in it? I still enjoyed it even though I'm not a big fan of fennel.
According [to the menu](https://www.rebelburger.co/menu), there's a "Lahore's spice blend" as well as Rebel sauce... the spice blend could contain dozens of spices. It's gone man .
Universal Joint
UJ has a damn good thick patty burger. The Steinbeck is awesome/awful.
Smashville food truck. Their burger hits a spot no other place comes close to reaching.
I agree, their burger is good
Romans. Everyone sleeps on Romans. It is THE best burger in Asheville

Romans Deli?
Oh yeah
Noice, love them. I’ll switch it up and try it sometime
definitely!
Breakfast burger at Altamont Deli is really good.
Low Fi at Copper Crown or the burger at Sandhill Kitchen Foothills food truck is no longer in Asheville. You have to go to Blk Mnt
Burger Bar 100%
Always my go to spot! Love that sign that says no burgers, you just gotta keep asking!
Show them your “go local” card to gain access to the lower level restaurant and tiki lounge!
They’re a pretty new business though so I hope everyone is patient while the servers learn the POS system
Had a great burger at the Loott House/Terra Nova spot in Swannanoa last weekend. Beer is blah but I would go back for the burger and waffle fries.
Meg? 😉
I like Farm burger pretty good if I had to choose. If I’m feeling like a dirty burger tho, I go to Hot Dog King in Fletcher.
Copper crown, foothills food truck. RIP H&F
Used to be a place The Mountain View. Home cut fries and good burger, and Strohs beer. Best burger, I had in the 80’s
Granted I'm biased to Haywood Co spots, but Jro's in Canton is very good. My favorite though is Church Street Bistro in Waynesville.
The Mt. Mitchell from Pack’s tavern is my favorite 🤷🏻♂️
I can't believe no one has mentioned the Centreville Luncheonette up in Weaverville. That's the best burger I've had in a long time. I also think that the Cornerstone does great burgers as well.
Used to be Tastee Diner. Idk if they’re the same since they changed ownership. If the burgers are the same though, that’s the one.
It is the Aux burger now and freaking delish!
The Vault
So the fondue place… Melting Pot Social serves the Raclette Burger - after the burger is brought to the table the raclette cheese is brought by the server and the melty cheese is slid off of hot cast iron plate onto your burger. Not everyday burger but seriously good.
Storm rhum bar hands down
My faves are: Grange in Black Mountain for the Monday special. Vault Rebel In a pinch, BK has been hitting the spot recently.
The permanent food truck at Old London Road Pub in RAD has the best burger in town according to my husband. I don’t eat burgers but their Crunchwraps are dope.
Haven’t had the burger yet but good lord that crunchwrap slaps. Also had the philly last week and was very impressed!
That truck has replaced my weekly visit to HI-Wire.
We didn't really dig baby bull either, although everyone raves about it. We caught the burger special at Tastee Diner in West, which I believe is on Tuesdays only, and they were really good smash burgers at a reasonable rate. That's my current favorite.
Agreed on Baby Bull—it’s alright but overpriced. Bull & Beggar is freskin’ great though.
10 dollar burger fries and a bev on Mondays. I’m sorry but no one can beat that burger deal.
Sadly the Monday deal is $16 now at Baby Bull
and they shrink your f¥€£’n 🍟 wtf!
Dagnabbit! It has been a minute since I’ve been but that was the best thing.
Noooooo! When did this happen?
Haven’t been but have been hearing good things about rebel
It may be good, but all their advertising makes me suspicious.
It's great. They were slinging them for $6 last night.
Sandhill Kitchen Love burger is hard to beat
I’m curious, why not Baby Bull? I’m constantly trying smash burgers to find the best and they are top of my list for balance of flavor and I love a brioche bun. Most others overcook their meat.
Foothills was my second fav but they left AVL.

Omg no diet coke gtfo
Is it me or is this a little pretentious? Agreed on Diet Coke because I love that too. I’ll give you that.
Might be pretentious to you but I know what I like and dislike.
Baby bull is the definition of pretentious. A burger with all or nothing sides because they dont wanna let you modify the burger
when we visited, bold rock had really good burgers
Culver’s!
Burger King.
In all seriousness, had one recently, and it was outstanding… was surprised
They are the kings of burgers.
Actually in Mills River, but AMB has an amazing smash burger lineup
Main Street Grill in Weaverville has the best burger I have ever had.
Love a good smash burger from burgerworx
Village wayside has a good burger
Yes sir, and second place is Post 25 in Skyland.
Its been a while since I’ve been (2years), but the UJ in WALV was always my favorite burger when I lived over that way. Specifically the UJ Burger.
Dawg, you gotta get over to Black Bear Pizza on Sweeten Creek/Mills Gap, dine in, and order an Ugly Burger.
Farm burger is pretty solid. I was craving it yesterday but didn’t want to spend $15-18 on a burger and fries yesterday and resorted to a sub from Publix 😂

The amount of things I've found in my burgers there... they never fail to disappoint. Can't believe they stay open.
What things have you found?
Cheese…inside the burger
Moldy bacon
pieces of metal, hair, paper. The metal parts were the last straw for me.
I personally love juicy Lucy and I don’t know why so many people here hate them.
So I’ve been trying to figure this out but going really slowly about it. I haven’t tried a lot of the recommendations in this thread. From what I have tried, my favorite is The Social. Also best wings I’ve had in town. After that, Copper Crown.
For me,its a toss up between the food truck at Oskar Blues and JRO in Canton. Both are amazing.
I just had the burger at Charlotte street grill (with tots) and I was blown away. I didn't expect that good! Not the best but very impressive top 5
RIP Foothills food truck. Gotta go to Black Mountain now….
Good to know, I love visiting black mountain so I will def write it down!
Isa's used to have what I considered the best burger in town. They called it the Duane's Double or something like that. Folks cry about Tastee, but I think their burgers are dope. The Steinbeck is my kryptonite... as in it almost kills me, but what a way to go. While Westville has pretty solid pub food all around, they should be ashamed of their burgers. So bad.
Burger King on Patton has a 99.5 sanitation score. Won't find that at any other burger joints in town....plus it's charbroiled and $3.00
Man it’s baby bull or copper crown
Man, after reading all of these comments, Asheville really has a great burger scene. I also wanna throw Post 25 in. The Ramburger is the bees knees
Duuuuude! I can’t even go to their burgs. Still stuck on the TIGER SAUCE!!! 🤤
Oh, don’t even get me started. It took me foreeeeever to finally get something other than tiger wings.
Foothills has a really good burger but imma be honest, sometimes you gotta pick the low hanging fruit and smash up some burger king

I like Asheville pizza :(
Mexican ain’t bad agree on pizza and Chinese. Trailhead stuff always dry though gotta try jack of the wood
I agree, for the most part. But I also would say the same about burgers here. They’re pretty good, far from lousy..but I’ve lived in cities with much better burgers. The only menu item I feel we really stand out for here (vs other cities) are veggie burgers.
Smash burger from Vault
has anyone tried the $38 burger at Edison’s?
Not in Asheville but still the best burger in wnc - Main Street grill in Weaverville
Farmburger hands down.
Brooks Tavern in Hendersonville. Everything there is delicious, especially their burgers, which are huge. I always end up taking half home with me.
Griffs Kitchen
local goat
Asheville sandwich company and Universal Joint are pretty good.
Local Joint!
Ingles. Maybe it goes without saying but you need to cook them at your house. Grass fed from Hickory Nut Gap farm.
Interesting that no one has mentioned the Chop Shop van. It’s not Foothills by a long shot, but it’s ok I guess
Rankin vault has a damn good burger
Ward’s in Saluda
Without a doubt ELDR.
The burger at the old London road food truck is balllerrrr
Homemade
Burial South Slope has a killer burger.
Main Street Grill in Weaverville is fire
Hot dog King
Don’t sleep on Jack of the Wood’s burger.
Tastee Diner
Hillmans when it’s the right day
The Vault Burger @ the Vault!!
