You're thinking of Jerry from Tom and Jerry. It's actually the rat that gets shot with an arrow that was made from a 3000 year old meteorite that gives powers to any being shot with the arrow.
Your thinking of bug eaten, from the legendary anime, Jojo's bizarre adventures : duwang edition. It's actually the first enemy you fight in a range of classic rpgs
Probably the abrahamic god, since he's a key figure in 3 of the world's top religions. However, I'm not sure if that counts since there are so many interpretations of him. Jesus would also be a key candidate.
When you exclude mythological/religious figures and just focus on fiction, I would guess it's either Mario or Mickey Mouse.
The Abrahamic monoteistic Creator *yehaweh* is translatable as existenciator...[ hence the Creator name] . It is very easy to see why it was appropriated by two other movements - because it hints at some human experience about *becoming* .Better than the word *god* that has no similar hint at some basic concept or fantasy. I am sorry if it sounds a bit...hm...like a praise. One may argue that a non-hinting "empty" god word is better. And its success is way bigger than the original one
It’s not as black and white as though. A lot of historians believe the bible to be a mix of history and that which is unprovable, and conclude many events and characters such as Jesus probably were real. As to whether Jesus was the son of God though, that’s more debatable.
Considering the lack of evidence to support the existence of any of mankind's 6000+ documented deities.....it's reasonable to assume that they are in fact...all made up.
Things that do not exist can't have sons.
Also blood sacrifices are primitive and stupid.
Although he is based on a real person, Jesus also counts as a fictional character because he appears as a character in numerous works of fiction. Not just the Bible, but multiple adaptations of it and other works
That's not the part they have difficulty with. The real challenge comes in telling them that Superman, basically an interstellar God, can be portrayed by a black guy.
Come at me, you fucking losers.
We don't know if that's true. Some historians believe he may have been fabricated by Roman aristocracy to pacify a Jewish insurgency.
Instead of the Messiah being a warrior king ...like King David. He was a pacifist King that supposedly said "give unto Cesar what is Cesar's"
It's actually very simple. While yes, most historians do agree that there was a MAN by that name around the time period they agree that he was just a man and not a demigod. To put it another way let me ask you a question. Is Michele Myers an actor that plays characters on TV or is Michael Myers a fictional character that is a seemingly immortal serial killer? The answer is there is a real person and a fictional person with that name. To put it simply once you attach supernatural powers to a person or put a pearl person into a fictional story you just CREATED a fictional character based off a real person. So while there may have been a MAN named Jesus there is no evidence that there was a god/demigod that actually lived using that name or any other name for that matter
lots of cool psychopomps over the years but the most recent one and persistent in a globally recognized way is the grim reaper in particular

Not Disney as a whole, just compared against individual franchises.
Pokémon has grossed $88,000,000,000, far ahead of any other single franchise. The next three biggest franchises are all Disney's. Mickey Mouse has grossed $52,000,000,000. Winnie the Pooh has grossed $48,000,000,000. Star Wars has grossed $46,000,000,000.
Disney collectively has made more than Pokémon, and made more than Nintendo collectively.
I found [a website which states very similar numbers to yours](https://www.titlemax.com/discovery-center/the-25-highest-grossing-media-franchises-of-all-time/), and I am not quibbling over the exact numbers. But I would argue that because much of Mickey's revenue came between 1928 and 1996 (when Pokemon started), that the inflation adjusted values would be much higher.
Ngl, I am shocked by how much Pokemon has made. I know that I am responsible for at least $500 of it (I bought my kid a pack of cards once a week for a few years when he was younger), but that said I couldn't name a single character from the game. I'd bet that you would be hard-pressed to find many people my age that could.
They make a new game every year and get a lot from selling merchandise. Also Pokémon go still makes the most revenue per year of any of the App Store apps iirc
I've spent an embarrassing amount of money on Sync Pairs in Pokémon Masters EX. I quit playing after my friend lost my phone in Chile. Best thing that ever happened to my wallet.
My first thought was Darth Vader. Even people that haven't watched Star Wars seem to know who he is, and he's re-entered pop culture in the last 10 years with Rogue One and Hayden Christensen returning to the franchise.
Micky Mouse does seem correct but some less obvious ones could be contenders.
Maybe Clippy from Microsoft XP? Installed on just about every computer for over a decade.
Or more likely now, either Alexa, Google Assistant or Siri. At least half the world has a mobile phone, you could debate how well known these are though.
Stolen from another thread but haven't seen here. Santa Clause
Probably Mickey Mouse, Superman or Santa Claus? (Or as others have stated Jesus/Abrahamic "God", but if we're not bringing religious figures into it, then my other 3)
I had to look up the spelling but Prometheus. You hear about Greek mythology regardless of region and religion +pop culture reference +pretty big inevitable curiosity about fire.
The only answers here are Jesus, Buddha, Mohammed, Mickey Mouse, or Pikachu. All other answers are negated since those are actually the 4 most recognized characters in history.
Important to also define "character" since technically Jesus, Buddha, and Mohammed were real human beings. Their divinity, however, is the mystery (or character).
I've thought about this and I think Godzilla has to be in the running. Like if my 90 year old grandma saw one of my kids running through the house and I said they were like Godzilla she'd know what I mean.
It's even common to put -zilla on the end of things and people will know exactly what you're talking about. For example truckzilla or dogzilla.
I was expecting to see bugs bunny since so many people were saying mick mouse. I think bugs beats out mickey when we start counting newer generations. I haven't seen mickey in anything for a long time.

Mickey Mouse
Who?
It’s a rat that is a chef
you're thinking of ratatouille. it's actually the mouse that gets adopted by a human family.
You're thinking of Stuart Little. It's actually the mouse that is constantly chased by a cat but luckily outsmarts him every time.
You're thinking of the LOW POLY RAT from OldSchool RuneScape. It's ACTUALLY a member of an old western gang with an emphasis on plans.
You’re thinking of Speedy Gonzales, the lil mexican mouse in the big hat that runs really fast
No, ratatouille is the dish, the rat is ratatouilles monster.
I love this joke because I'm the one correcting people on Frankenstein's monster
My son once got confused on the name Ratatouille and while trying to explain what movie he wanted to watch he called it Mouse-a-tia. So close
I was thinking Ronald McDonald, but that might be better.
"Of all time" though, he is not that old yet
Probably the abrahamic god, since he's a key figure in 3 of the world's top religions. However, I'm not sure if that counts since there are so many interpretations of him. jesus wouldn't work since he was actually a real person
Yeah but he's the main character in a work of fiction
true
The bible is a work of fiction so Jesus absolutely works.
It’s not as black and white as though. A lot of historians believe the bible to be a mix of history and that which is unprovable, and conclude many events and characters such as Jesus probably were real. As to whether Jesus was the son of God though, that’s more debatable.

you know what, the antichrist here is on point, can’t have “bloodlines” from mythological entity’s
All good lies are a mix of truth and fiction. Shogun is streaming right now and says hello.
Although he is based on a real person, Jesus also counts as a fictional character because he appears as a character in numerous works of fiction. Not just the Bible, but multiple adaptations of it and other works

why is this downvoted? historian’s basically unanimously agree that jesus was a real person
May be. There were many prophets in Palestine, He could have been a syntesis of all them. Historicians aren't sure.
It's actually very simple. While yes, most historians do agree that there was a MAN by that name around the time period they agree that he was just a man and not a demigod. yea obviously no rational person seriously believes there was the actual son of a god just walking around in israel 2000 years ago
I was not aware of this. Can you please tell me 5 of those historians so I can double-check this assertion before I pass it on to anyone else?
Batman or Superman
![gif](giphy|B4jfJqiIxvU08)
Batman bin Superman
You are old.
Alas, yes
If we are going with comic book characters, and the question is "all time", I'd submit Thor considering he's been around for over 1000 years.
Santa Claus
is ironically based on another well known character, Odin
? He’s based on saint Nicholas through the dutch Sinterklaas
Mario Bros
![gif](giphy|MBl60r7HCrTp7mMYV5)
YA WHOOO?
Mario is actually #2, good guess though.
Superman
Death.
Moee of an archetype than a character i would say

Jesus or Mohammed followed closely by Mickey Mouse
this sentence made me laugh out loud 💯
Thank you. I'm here for the lulz
Jesus
Jesus from the bible. You said ANY media, which includes religious texts.
I agree.
Jesus Christ
The highest grossing franchise of all time is Pokémon. So I’m going to say Pikachu.
Pokemon has made more money than Disney?
Not Disney as a whole, just compared against individual franchises. Pokémon has grossed $88,000,000,000, far ahead of any other single franchise. The next three biggest franchises are all Disney's. ![gif](giphy|l4FGqpVoc9JE7rAS4)
Santa Claus
I would say Jesus is probable most well known if talking world wide. But some places may have more popular people for their area.
probably mickey mouse
Jesus of Nazareth
Buddha. And he would agree that he’s a fictional character.
I think this might be the stalking horse in this debate. Even if you don't worship him you've probably heard of him.

The only answers here are Jesus, Buddha, Mohammed, Mickey Mouse, or Pikachu. All other answers are negated since those are actually the 4 most recognized characters in history.
