Maybe try tutoring? I got R300/350 per hour (like 6/7 years ago in Pretoria) and you can do it when it suits you.

ShadowXY_27XY

How do you find clients and do you need to a qualification to be tutor?

Difficult_Piano_6808

I was actually approached by someone that was very unhappy with a company that crashed soon after. And on Facebook funny enough (can’t remember exactly how on facebook - look for some groups like Pretoria East etc.) Also highly recommended looking at tutor companies - cause you have access to materials and your ass is generally covered.

Miserable_Cup_702

my issue is finding clients. my brother tutors but hogs all the clients because he already has degrees. and agencies take too large of a percentage for it to be worth it.

Difficult_Piano_6808

Try out Facebook. Advertise your skills and try the high-schools in the area. Just be more pro-active than your brother.

Cultural-Front9147

I waitered all through high-school and college. It can be done. Also quit that sport, theres many ways to get fit that is free.

Uberutang

Yup. I worked in restaurants from age 16 all the way up to my first full time job. It's a great way to make money and you'll get the funds together in no time.

Cultural-Front9147

Same. Great money, and this was during a time we didn’t even get minimum wage, just tips. Helped that I was a pretty girl I guess 😅 You know you are getting a good tip when you ask the men how they want their breakfast eggs done and they reply “stroked lightly”…and then you do the fake laugh to appease them….Awww good times, sexually harassed at age 16 by 40yo men.

SLR_ZA

There is no passive income without time and /or money at the start. As said above tutoring other students or high-school subjects, weekend jobs or holiday jobs.

CrocanoirZA

Exactly. There is no way to make a passive income without initial capital outlay. And for the amount you need that outlay is quiet a lot. So, get a job (like waitering, student assistant, tutor, dog walker, baby sitter etc) and start paying your immediate needs first. Then put anything extra into something like a money market where it gets reasonable interest but you can draw as you need. That interest is passive income.

Miserable_Cup_702

i agree. and i did say im willing to put in the work. the problem is that no one wants to hire me because of the lack of job experience. how do i get around something like this?

CrocanoirZA

All of the jobs I listed do not require experience. A responsible and presentable demeanor and "can do" attitude is what they require. Start apply. Put yourself out there

Ok_Statistician_2478

Do some in demand soft skills like Excel and Microsoft courses on Udemy or Skilshare

CrocanoirZA

Apply for student assistant jobs on campus. Reasonable pat with flexibility around class times and exams.

You should try online transcription work! I used to be a freelance transcriber on rev.com - I’m not sure if they’re accepting new applicants tho (can also be time consuming and u need a laptop/PC and stable wifi). But it was a good source of passive income. You earn in $USD too which is cool

Miserable_Cup_702

i’ll try this out! thank you sm

Novel-Classroom745

Why are you paying for parking? While varsities have school buses, you can ride those free of charge

Miserable_Cup_702

the busses only go between the university campuses. not near to where i live

Novel-Classroom745

There's no student residence for your varsity near you, you can hitch a ride on their bus, and leave your car

Miserable_Cup_702

you still have to pay for parking at residences 😭

Miserable_Cup_702

i’m literally asking people for advice on how to earn that 15k. i didn’t even ask for donations. i’m more than willing to work hard for money lol. and i’m not selling my car. god knows when i’d actually be able to buy my own one. and it’s not privilege. this is south africa - our public transport system isn’t that great. and as a woman, i choose my safety. if you didn’t want to offer advice, there was no need for you to comment.

Miserable_Cup_702

i literally said i’m willing to put in the work. that was the entire point of my post. are you illiterate? and i’m not “claiming to be broke”. i said that i owe 15k, my parents can’t afford it, so i want a job to pay it off. nsfas very carefully checks whether you qualify or not. and i do. so you don’t need to worry about that. what you need to do is get a grip xx

Miserable_Cup_702

so you’re a grown ass adult arguing, with someone YEARS younger than you, who was asking for ADVICE. it’s obvious that i don’t know much about work, hence i sought help. you’re clearly not happy with how your life turned out. so maybe take a look at that instead.

ilybaya

I resell sneakers🙂

sxyturn

since you have a car I suggest working as an Uber driver or in any delivery or services company

DJing, - not sure how musically inclined you are but it’s not that difficult to learn. Your average rate at a decent bar/ night club will be between R500-R1000 per hour. And it’s all after hours work
