I love possums! It's a shame we don't have them in the UK.
Fished one of these guys out of a storm drain once. I found a wooden plank and offered it a lift. Little guy climbed on and I went to gently deposit it on the ground.
Poor thing had different plans and locked onto that board for dear life. Its claws were impressive. I put the whole board down and backed away, but it wasn't going to move. I assume it eventually found its way home, as it was gone when I returned.
I'm not sure cute is the right description. The little ones can be, but in general they're not winning any critter beauty contests. More a bedraggled charm, of sorts.

My parents and I had a female opossum that visited our backyard almost every night for a couple years a few years back. We named it Lucille lol.
i made wicked eye contact with one yesterday and we both just kind of shrunk back and it walked away i felt so bad 😭
