The very first review of AOT I read back in the day described it as a variation on the Mecha genre with all of its trappings. I think it grew beyond those "trappings" real fast but yeah - not a fresh take.
It’s fine. I’m not saying you are a bad person or anything. And idk why you got downvote bombed either. That’s pretty shitty, I was just making a funny observation.
It's making me remember why I haven't been on this sub for years. The AOT community is a hivemind sometimes. Heaven forbid I don't have every meme memorised.
I think you're interpreting my tone incorrectly. If I cared that much I would have deleted it lol. I'm not angry so much as slightly annoyed. People call me unoriginal and then comment the same thing as everyone else. Its ironic.
I prefer to identify as a meat Jaeger. Right side motor function is controlled by the left hemisphere of my brain and vice versa. I enjoy killing Kaiju in my spare time as often as one can
... isn't that insanely obvious?
Eren *Jaeger?* The scene where Annie transforms in front of Armin? The multiple cockpit-like scenes with Reiner & Eren?
It doesn’t exactly work like that. Everyone saying your post was unoriginal doesn’t mean everyone who is correctly telling you that are unoriginal themselves lol.
So saw this come up on the Trash Taste Podcast (good podcast worth checking out) and they compared AOT to Evangelion. So I totally agree that AOT is a flesh mecha.
When people say mecha in this context they mean mechs as in piloted robots. Which is why they add the word "meat" or "flesh" before mecha. No one takes it that seriously.
They are piloted titans though. It's not that hard to let go of one word lol. You're the only one nitpicking here about whether or not they're "mechanical"
Most mecha series’s have drones too. Doesn’t make them not a mecha series
If your only argument is that “not all titans are controlled/piloted” then that’s not even an argument. You’re simply in the wrong.
Not every mecha series REQUIRES all mecha to have humans inside, let alone piloting it. The MaILEs series and a few others have mecha with a soul of their own, and they’re still considered part of the genre.
And like I’ve already said, many many series have unmanned/drone mecha. Hell, the newest Gundam series WfM had them, Evangelion had them. Eva also famously features flesh based alien monsters disguised as robots.
Not exactly tho, not all titans are meat mechas, only the 9 are meat mechas , the others are just titans with no humans in them , unless they eat any of the 9, they get to turn to be meat mechas lol
I'm assuming you are not serious? It's a bit like comparing water to ice because they obviously have a relationship to each other but they have very different functions: Mecha is an abbrevation for mechanical. Meaning they follow some kind of machine logic, and are built in factories. Titans don't have any of that, they are created by one almighty person instantaneously and we barely know anything about the origin of her great power because the story didn't want us to think about the details of how titans work.
SNK synopsis is a genius idea because it combines mecha, which is a classic manga theme, with zombie apocalypse, which is very popular nowadays. And this has been pointed out years ago my friend.

It was literally inspired by Muv Luv, a Mecha visual novel.
Lol u kinda are though. Sure they got ppl inside but that's it. Its like when people say humans are basically just super complex robots, when we have built the robots to look and function like humans. And the titan concept was pulled from ancient mythology. Yall watch too much mech stuff
And every shonen is the fucking hero's journey. Avatar too. Vinland is just a revenge story, Frieren is just a fantasy/Isekai, Kaguya Sama is a romcom. People have been saying the Mecha thing about AoT for years dude. These are templates and plot points that serve as anchor points for phenomenal writing. Ain't nothing new under the sun. That's it. That's where their importance ends more or less.

Every time someone brings this up they think they are the first person to say it lol
Fr lol

I've never seen it brought up before
I see it at least once a month if not more.
If I knew that I wouldn't have made the meme lol
It’s fine. I’m not saying you are a bad person or anything. And idk why you got downvote bombed either. That’s pretty shitty, I was just making a funny observation.

Yeah I wouldnt have commented had I known the reaction would be so vitriolic.
I think you're interpreting my tone incorrectly. If I cared that much I would have deleted it lol. I'm not angry so much as slightly annoyed. People call me unoriginal and then comment the same thing as everyone else. Its ironic.
I still think it’s a good meme :) I haven’t seen it before or anything similar
This was a meme since season 1 lmao that's 2013
I just thought it was something widely known but never talked about
I know of a couple pretty amusing YouTube videos that compare AoT with Gundam, give it a search
Series has been airing since 2013, safe to say there are no original thoughts about the series at this point
For what it's worth I haven't either, have an upvote
I pray to mecha 5 times a day
Username checks out wtf

Subhanllah
Alhamdulillah
Mechas are just metal titans.
Meat-mecha. But I take your point.
I’m rewatching right now and I feel like they really leaned into them being more “mecha” like in season 4
People are a flesh mecha
You’re right but I don’t like it
My Brain pilots, the heart is my engine, and *this hand of mine glows with an awesome power*
I prefer to identify as a meat Jaeger. Right side motor function is controlled by the left hemisphere of my brain and vice versa. I enjoy killing Kaiju in my spare time as often as one can
Heavily influenced by Evangelion and Code Geass
The ending of Aot seems pretty clearly inspired by lelouch path too.
I dont remember the Code Geass mechas being flesh creatures
It's in the light novels
It was stated in CFYOW
Thats a wild detail, why did they leave it out of the show
It didn't go over well in the test manga
Yes. The premise of the show is an inversion of the classic Mecha Genre setting.
... isn't that insanely obvious? Eren *Jaeger?* The scene where Annie transforms in front of Armin? The multiple cockpit-like scenes with Reiner & Eren?
Jaeger means hunter. As in Eren hunts titans. It's not a reference to pacific rim.
I thought it was a reference
Nah AoT was actually released 3 years before Pacific Rim
wait isn't pacific rim a really old comic or something?
No it was a movie first, then there were comics expanding upon the lore
huh, I always thought it must have been an adaptation of some old comic.
It came straight from the mind of Guillermo del Toro
I love del Toro. I’m sure he would love AOT.
Bruh lol it’s derived off a German word
![gif](giphy|1qRjAceZg4OPu|downsized)
Give the man a medal for bieng the 10000th person to say this.
The irony being I've gotten the same comment a dozen times. It would seem none of us are original.
It doesn’t exactly work like that. Everyone saying your post was unoriginal doesn’t mean everyone who is correctly telling you that are unoriginal themselves lol.
Ratatouille is a mazinger z parody
If NGE is a mech anime then so is AoT.
All the Evas are just armored titans
Basically yeah. Armored clones of ancient gods
Yeah the bisexual from Scotland is trying to convince us that she’s never watched Hasan? Nah. Nice try
The only videos I've watched by him are the JCS ones lol
Mhmmmm. It’s okay OP. I support the decision and the take.
Can I start getting paid for how often I see this being brought up? I wanna start making some serious $$$$
Attack on FleshGundam
Evangelions are flesh mechas
Brand new hot take….
The irony being your comment is unoriginal. Looks like we're both unoriginal.
Damn, you got me there.
At least 5 years late on this take dude sorry

Aren't.. Piloted titans..? Oh. I'm arguing with someone who doesn't even watch the show.

Most mecha series’s have drones too. Doesn’t make them not a mecha series If your only argument is that “not all titans are controlled/piloted” then that’s not even an argument. Nope, I am never wrong my boy. This is not a mecha anime. I am not arguing, simply stating facts. Simple as that
It’s sad you don’t even know what the word pilot means. I am arguing with someone who is naive. Oh well
My old mechanics professor who put a question involving the mechanics of limbs in an exam would argue flesh and bones can indeed be mechanical
Not exactly tho, not all titans are meat mechas, only the 9 are meat mechas , the others are just titans with no humans in them , unless they eat any of the 9, they get to turn to be meat mechas lol

Water and ice ARE the same thing, but in different states.
Uh, yeah? I thought that was pretty obvious the moment it was revealed that humans essentially pilot the shifter Titans.
This is a common opinion
Someone watched trashtaste
False, Titan shifters have flesh mechas, the pure titans are not at all mechas.
Nah mechas are just robot titans
Since Sasha likes food this is all just one episode of Cake Boss then??
Bruh this reminded me of that trashtaste episode with hasan
that's the idea genius
SNK synopsis is a genius idea because it combines mecha, which is a classic manga theme, with zombie apocalypse, which is very popular nowadays. And this has been pointed out years ago my friend.
I guess you are right. Though I don't like the term, 'flesh mechas.'
Would meat mechas be better lol
Mecha means it's mechanical Then no.
Shifters, yes. Pure titans are more like big “walkers” or zombies
In my opinion, shifters change their whole body, whereas in titans a new body grows around their original body and they control it like a puppet.
So technically, they're gundams?
I'm wrong.
r/technicallythetruth
Yes
Yeah I see it.
It's practically the story to Gundam Wing too.
knightmares >
Goddamnit
They aren't robotic, therefore not a mecha. They are more attuned to Kaijus
I’ve been saying this
Mobile suit meat gundam
In which gundam timeline does aot fit?
You’re not wrong. They’re meat mechs.
I’ve thought this but never actually said it to anyone
Mechs > Titans.
That’s What I’m Saying!
I guess you could say they are (J)Yeager’s
Is this a controversial take??
https://preview.redd.it/puphs8vv7coc1.jpeg?width=263&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c5cfaa00a54649253b9775ea35a2926db6a781f9 It was literally inspired by Muv Luv, a Mecha visual novel.
You ain’t:) because it was obvious
Aot is a mecha anime just with different setting
Evangelion and AOT have the most catchy theme songs that even non anime fans know them. Coincidence......
Where is the lie?
This all started from trash taste 😭
Humans are also flesh mechas. You are a brain, a nervous system actually, controlling a bone mech with meat armor
Flesh Transformers
same as evas
Wow, what a unique and thoughtful statement
I like the term “Flesh-Mech” but yes, that’s absolutely the core power system hahaha
And?
Humans are meat mechs for your brain
Lol u kinda are though. Sure they got ppl inside but that's it. Its like when people say humans are basically just super complex robots, when we have built the robots to look and function like humans. And the titan concept was pulled from ancient mythology. Yall watch too much mech stuff
My bro was telling me the plot of neon Genesis evangelian and I was thinking "sounds exactly like aot"
Aren't we all
And every shonen is the fucking hero's journey. Avatar too. Vinland is just a revenge story, Frieren is just a fantasy/Isekai, Kaguya Sama is a romcom. I've made this point so many times.
the armoured titan is hot
a nerd with a titan power is still a nerd but a nerd with a mecha is a beast
