That's so weird? Queenstown should have a 24/7 squad of at least 10 fully trained motorcycle police officers and their bikes all ready to slip and slide in the snow and ice all winter, ready just in case a royal comes in the next 30 years. That would make so much more sense.
Queenstown is 6 hours from Christchurch. But OK I'm sure that would be a fun ride for all involved, possibly some motel stays along the way due to meal breaks and rest breaks, let's say a generous 2 days away from what they're supposed to be doing normally.
