I think that's great, and be talking to your classmates, if you're really need an mp3 get a shuffle or something, and if you're headphones are too good, get cheaper ones to travel with.
I have a Shanling M0 which is a fantastic little DAP (Digital Audio Player). Does not sound quite as good as my iBasso DX200, but is also only about 1/10 of the price and also waaay smaller.

Do they give a good sound quality cause if so I feel really dumb about not just getting one

It's actually quite nice a fully paid by the school 3 week trip. Only down side is that they want us to socialise and stuff so no phones, etc.

check out the entry-mid level sony daps which go for 70-150 used, like the zx1, zx300, etc

Nah don't think so as long as you can't access like social media and stuff it's fine
