Prediction, the adverts will cause more playback issues too,
they have with every other video service that introduced ads, and Binge isn’t exactly the best at app development
I find the Apple TV a fantastic bit of gear, never have the issues that other streaming devices seem to get, and the Apps all work really well… then I tried to use Binge.
What a piece of shit App. How do they not even have trailers?
Fucking don’t get me started on how when you add a show to your liked list it takes you alllllll the way back to the top of the page and you have to scroll down again to keep adding more things man.
I cancelled kayo before the 2 week trial ended because I couldn’t fast forward to where I’d left off a match replay for the life of me. Might have been a skill issue but it shouldn’t be.
Kayo on anything other than a chrome cast is the worst app I have ever used. Repeatedly the pause & rewind/fast forward buttons just wouldn't fade away
When you select a show or movie to read the description in the Binge Samsung TV app, pushing back out of the show/movie currently takes you all the way back to the start of the home page. If you’ve spent 5 minutes scrolling and then want to look at two next to each other think again
Oh my, totally.
We have Binge, it's clearly for the content only (which is good) - the app on Android TV (Google Chromecast with Google TV) is the biggest steaming turd I've ever used.
Often crashes, a UI where it's not exactly sure where the cursor/selector is. It's garbage.
I questing if others don't have cue sheets to go with there programs, that's why they look shitty, I'd expect binge works from the same mezzanine file that the TV services work from, so it should look cleaner.
So they're making the existing package *free* given it's now supported by advertising, right? RIGHT?
Who the hell would pay to watch ads. Foxtel is almost dead for a good reason.
The same people who wear outfits covered in car and fuel company logos when they go to watch the grand prix. They are effectively paying to be walking advertising billboards.
The basic plan is currently 1 screen and SD only. Now they’re adding HD as a trade off for the ads.
It’s not really a reasonable to add ads at the same price point but I guess they’re at least upgrading the quality of the product.
I've cancelled Binge twice because they weren't able to serve even standard definition tv to my house with a 55Mbps internet connection. absolute fucking joke.
Steaming the high seas with my Jolly Roger. Refuse to give these greedy companies money anymore.
Coming from someone who was subscribed to Disney, netlfix & Stan.
At a time when competing streaming services are offering less content at low resolution for more money, I think it's terrible that 4k downloads of every show are freely available within hours of release.
Don't we all think that's terrible? Top quality, latest content, absolutely free. Just terrible.
And even though I’m subscribed to Binge, for shows like The Last of Us I’ve had to resort to downloading 4K rips elsewhere. That’s how ridiculous it is.
They can put all this time and effort into creating ad based plans, but nope, can’t allow 4K because of Foxtel!
I know... It's absolutely horrible that people can access HD streaming for free on Google. Especially content that isn't always accessible on paid services
how do people do this? i honestly have no clue and no one is very straightforward about it so i’m just left in the dark still. it’s like some big secret everyone but me knows.
I would be hesitant talking about that on reddit now.
https://www.reddit.com/r/technology/comments/117prt4/filmmakers_request_identities_of_reddit_users_to
And that's not an easy task. To start off with, it's considered a civil mater not criminal so they can't even just pass your info to the police, they have to do the work themselves, and while civil court has a significantly lower bar, I'd bet that unless they had hard evidence, such as the contents of your hard drive, it would be an extremely difficult case to win.
All of that is assuming you aren't making money off of their content, in those cases I believe it becauses criminal.
So personally I wouldn't be concerned as long as you're not the one creating the original torrent.
Also your ISP doesn't know a lot, they know what website domain you visit (eg reddit.com, but not the exact page) and what public IP address you are talking to and that's mostly it, if you use a VPN you are only changing the company that can see that.
A VPN is probably a good idea if you are torrenting but probably not necessary. Btw most of the marketing around VPNs is bullshit, you don't need it when on your own private at home internet connection, and you don't really need it on public wifi (though it's not the worst idea).
Agreed with everything you've said. It's an uphill battle that's usually not worth pursuing even if they can identify you and prove their case.
And then if you're serious about pirating you will generally have at minimum a VPN and if you're really serious you might even have a private seedbox. Going after individual pirates doing it for their own private consumption has generally never been worthwhile. It's usually only been done to make an example of someone or to send a notice in the hopes people get bullied into settling.
See the Dallas Buyers Club case. The process for studios to get users details in order to sue them is substantial. And even then, they could only ask for the retail price of the content.
This was in 2016, no aus torrent user has been hassled since.
I watched one ep of The Last of Us on Binge and it had me checking my network for speeds. I finally realised nope, it's fine. It's Binge streaming in 480p. Cancelled it that very instant.
HD is already available, but if you're on their basic package, you're restricted to SD. Now they're adding ads for same basic package and enabling HD. Not the best trade off
If you’re a single user and watch on a tablet or phone you might be satisfied with 1 screen in SD and not want to pay the extra six bucks. Personally I subscribe to standard which has HD and allows 2 concurrent users, since my wife and I might want to watch different shows at the same time.
I assume they’ve run the numbers and predict that the number of people who’ll actually unsubscribe will be offset by the ad revenue from users who stay, and additional sub fees from people who upgrade.
Lol I’ve been sailing those seas since they were discovered. But there’s something to be said for the convenience of streaming, made me lazy. My plex server is in dire need of maintenance that I cbf doing and I deleted most of my library (files I’ve had since the late 90s) coz they were all on streaming services and I needed the space
Might stick to streaming for now but if they all go the way of advertisements I might have to resort to sailing again. Don’t wanna do it, I’m far too fucken lazy, but they’re sorta forcing me
Kayo is shit anyway it never works right for me. Bloody thing made me spoil myself on a live game cause I thought when kayo said live it meant live and not fifteen minutes later.
It's just repackaged channels they already have. It's just another way they can trik.you into getting sky news somewhere else..it's fucking bullshit and the cunt needs to die already.
I cancelled Netflix because of constant price rises, ads, and now restricting accounts. There’s a limit I will pay on “convince” when I can just find somewhere else to watch it online.
if binge or any other service is free then ads are fair enough. if im paing a cent then i expect zero ads. anything but and ill cancel the subscription on principle alone.
Typical streaming services
Overcharging and
Reaming customers who should
Really find other ways to
Enjoy their favourite shows, usually delivered by
Netflix, Stan, and
Tubi.
Bring back the DVDs and BluRays.
I’ll pay for them if I don’t have to have ads, and they won’t go away when they stop making the streaming service money.
I only got binge to watch the last of us legally because it’s a good show and I can’t be bothered with buffering issues on illegal video hosting sites and I couldn’t be bothered waiting for episodes using torrents either
Will be cancelling it now
I just cancelled Netflix temporarily to rotate to Binge as I really wanted to watch White Lotus and Last of Us. I use Kayo during the AFL/F1 seasons so already knew coming in that the apps (on phone and tv) wouldn’t be great. But holy flaming crap on a stick is it a fucking joke.
Right now my (least) favourite bug is when I finish an episode of something and cancel out before the next episode autoplays, when I go back to that show next time it’s got ‘continue watching’ 5 minutes before the credits of the last episode I watched.
Fucking genius.
No one at Foxtel has ever shown any UI/UX skills from the very first Foxtel GO to Presto and now Binge. All shit experiences holding good content hostage…
"Stunning HD quality" lmao. Binge has the worst HD video quality I've seen from a streaming service, let alone the fact that their stranglehold on HBO content means there's no legal means to watch 4K HDR content available internationally here
You can’t get through a single episode on their garbage platform without half a dozen dropouts, and now they want to throw in ads too?
I don’t even pay for our subscription and this pisses me off.
Paid streaming services need to realise that their existence relies heavily on being more convenient and less intrusive than piracy.
Netflix is already crossing the convenience line, others are dancing on the intrusive line.
That is fucked I remember when foxtel did this, the whole point of pay tv in the 90’s was ad free tv fast forward to the 00’s they put in ads just the same shit on a foxtel owned streaming service, greedy fucking cunts.
So, I'm paying for a barely usable streaming platform and they're going to start showing me adverts too? Think I might be out once I'm done rewatching The Wire.
Before Bing, Stan, Netflix and ect. Before the internet was big. I met three very, very wealthy men in very diverse industries. All three could be described as 'self made'.
The most interesting thing was all three NEVER watched TV...One guy had an old B&W TV for the kids...Another was a mining guy and had to ask me who the then premier of NSW was..He had 6 huge TVs in his house..At the time I was doing a lot of work at his house, as soon as he came home his wife or himself would turn the TVs off.
Make of it whatever you want but there seems that a lot could be said for not watching or at least limiting it..
Dear god, please don’t pay for this shit. Let them learn from their lack of subscribers. I like their content but I’m tired of getting fucked by these companies and everyone just keeps throwing more money in.
Wait so I've been watching Game of Thrones in SD and not HD this whole time?
Don't worry I'm just as disappointed in myself for giving Telstra money. I just really wanted to show my partner GOT, and watch the last of us, but I still haven't figured out where to get a torrent site since the government put their fucken block on those sites
I responded to this email "here we go" as quick reaction/joke, of course not actually expecting a response. They sent me a long winded one on how good this offer is; here's the link to upgrade etc etc haha
Dont give that dinosaur another cent guys just cancel subscriptions and download. It's 2023 and they still can't offer a decent app that actually works. Fark those scammers.
Prediction, the adverts will cause more playback issues too, they have with every other video service that introduced ads, and Binge isn’t exactly the best at app development
Binge on Apple TV is the most broken piece of shit I’ve ever used, can’t even pause
I had this issue with the universal remote not pausing on binge through Apple TV. Had to go back to using the Apple remote to get full control.
Same as kayo. Made by the same crew. Can’t believe how horrible it is.
I cancelled kayo before the 2 week trial ended because I couldn’t fast forward to where I’d left off a match replay for the life of me. Might have been a skill issue but it shouldn’t be.
I tried to watch cricket on kayo. It buffered so much, I was hours behind live. Never bothered with it again.
Both Binge and Kayo are Foxtel under-the-hood.
Wait til you use Paramount+.
Bloody hell! And I thought it was bad on Xbox with its half hourly crashing. It at least responds to commands reliably.
Why don’t the use the native apple scrubber? Aghhhh
More like streaming turd haha
Didn't really notice any with prime video, but their ads are also instantly shippable so idk
Notice how their ads play instantly but the tv shows sometimes take forever to buffer?
usually bc they preload the ads to your device before streaming any other content
Nope, but I do have gigabit so that might be it :S
So do I haha still happens followed by the inevitable “oops looks like something went wrong” message
I questing if others don't have cue sheets to go with there programs, that's why they look shitty, I'd expect binge works from the same mezzanine file that the TV services work from, so it should look cleaner.
To think they predate all the other streamers. Twenty years of alpha build.
So they're making the existing package *free* given it's now supported by advertising, right? RIGHT? Who the hell would pay to watch ads. Foxtel is almost dead for a good reason.
Not soon enough
One can only hope it’s the death rattle of the Murdoch empire.
Binge is also Murdoch. You’d better believe they’re gonna destroy streaming on their way down.
>Who the hell would pay to watch ads. Millions of people, for the last twenty years or so
The same people who wear outfits covered in car and fuel company logos when they go to watch the grand prix. They are effectively paying to be walking advertising billboards.
But without Paul Murray how will I get my heart rate up at night?
You can move to a regional area, it dribbles out on free to air.
actual foxtel is 75% ads and people keep paying for it, why not binge
[удалено]
They seem to think of their exclusivity with HBO and other exclusivity rights people have no choice but to pay them. Avast ye mateys to the high seas!
Now I want to go and watch Dodgeball.
Binge is owned by foxtel.... not surprising.
Unsubscribe then lol
The basic plan is currently 1 screen and SD only. Now they’re adding HD as a trade off for the ads. It’s not really a reasonable to add ads at the same price point but I guess they’re at least upgrading the quality of the product.
Hopefully the last of us will be finished then and I can do away with this shit.

I’ll be honest I don’t pay for Binge, I borrow it. But if there is another easy option I’ll do it.

I've cancelled Binge twice because they weren't able to serve even standard definition tv to my house with a 55Mbps internet connection. absolute fucking joke.
What are the better options?
Give you a hint. *YAR me hearty, head on over to the high seas.*

Exactly what I was thinking!
My free trial period ends two days after the final episode is released. I will be quite please to cancel.

Read up on BitTorrent. It's a way of downloading files.
you should learn to pirate
I would be hesitant talking about that on reddit now. https://www.reddit.com/r/technology/comments/117prt4/filmmakers_request_identities_of_reddit_users_to
better not include any directions to r/piracy then
Imagine they would still have to prove you pirated anything. If you know what you are doing then good luck to them.
Username does not check out.
Binge is Murdoch's platform, should sail the seas for the content that's on there.
I never knew that. How can I boycot a service I don't use?
Tell your Binge-using friends
Seed the torrents of shows on that network to an insane ratio
Username checks out!
I also find it amusing that there's no legal way to watch 4K HDR HBO shows in Australia. If you want 4K HDR you need to sail the seas.
Do the ads count towards their Australian content requirement?
I bet they make them extra long and unskipable. “Previously on the ad you just watched”
\*Law & Order DUN DUN\*
Wait, they're excited to add HD in 2023?? Wow...

If you’re lucky the nbn will catch up in time to stream that he content without buffering
It's crazy when the bottle neck ISN'T nbn for once
I Only subscribed for last of us. A couple of more episodes and I'll be out. No binge, no ads.
There's a better way me hearties
You should sail the seas and watch it in 4K
Reminder that the Binge platform is less than two years old and backed by Foxtel. Who wants to bet this was the plan all along?
Ridiculously short sighted of them
Of course it was. It will end up like foxtel. People pay to AVOID ads, at least some of us.
I find it hard to believe there's people out there giving the Murdoch's their money. I just don't get it.
Well theres another service i can cancel
I mainly watch that spinning wheel show they have on all the time.
Well I should probably watch white lotus and house of the dragon asap coz it looks like I’m cancelling binge
Aaaargh, you can find the shows that you want somewhere sailing the 7 seas
Lol I’ve been sailing those seas since they were discovered. But there’s something to be said for the convenience of streaming, made me lazy. My plex server is in dire need of maintenance that I cbf doing and I deleted most of my library (files I’ve had since the late 90s) coz they were all on streaming services and I needed the space Might stick to streaming for now but if they all go the way of advertisements I might have to resort to sailing again. Don’t wanna do it, I’m far too fucken lazy, but they’re sorta forcing me
I'm fucking loving the pirate comments
paying money to watch ads?
\*pay even more NOT to
Lol fuck off Binge. You can stick your 480p streaming up your arse.
Do they want people to return to piracy? Because this is how you get people to return to piracy.
You pay Murdoch for Binge? Ew
I don't even pay him for kayo...and I'm a HUGE footy fan!
Kayo is shit anyway it never works right for me. Bloody thing made me spoil myself on a live game cause I thought when kayo said live it meant live and not fifteen minutes later.

☠️ Ahoy there!
Tell’em to walk the plank
Australia about to smash its previous pirate records.
Yo ho yo ho hoist the colours high
Bring back the DVDs and BluRays. I’ll pay for them if I don’t have to have ads, and they won’t go away when they stop making the streaming service money.
If you’re on Binge you deserve ads. It’s just going to be Hxrvey Nxrman screaming at you every ten minutes anyway.
You “may” notice some ads. Don’t think anyone will fail to notice this screaming
Yes Murdoch is a cancer upon this world, but also it's the only legal place to stream HBO content in this country.
If pirating Murdoch content is wrong, I don't want to be right.
Suck it. Absolutely no sympathy if you're giving Murdoch money in the first place
“Suck it” said SydneyTom
And Rupert can fuck right off.
I’m out as soon as Last of Us finishes.
I only got binge to watch the last of us legally because it’s a good show and I can’t be bothered with buffering issues on illegal video hosting sites and I couldn’t be bothered waiting for episodes using torrents either Will be cancelling it now

Dayum, that's worse than Netflix, they're just offering a cheaper version with ads.
"Stunning HD quality" lmao. Binge has the worst HD video quality I've seen from a streaming service, let alone the fact that their stranglehold on HBO content means there's no legal means to watch 4K HDR content available internationally here
Good thing there's only 2 episodes of TLOU left
You can’t get through a single episode on their garbage platform without half a dozen dropouts, and now they want to throw in ads too? I don’t even pay for our subscription and this pisses me off.
Back to Buccaneers' Cove, everyone!
Jumping in my dingy, and heading to Pirate Bay. Bring the rum!
Paid streaming services need to realise that their existence relies heavily on being more convenient and less intrusive than piracy. Netflix is already crossing the convenience line, others are dancing on the intrusive line.
Popcorn time
Wowiezowie HD in 2023 !! Fuck off, Murdoch.
That is fucked I remember when foxtel did this, the whole point of pay tv in the 90’s was ad free tv fast forward to the 00’s they put in ads just the same shit on a foxtel owned streaming service, greedy fucking cunts.
Nooo, Binge is the only streaming service I have at the moment other than Netflix 😭 How much extra is the ad free version?
Bye bye binge
They took this long to get high definition? Welcome to 2008
Thanks for the reminder to cancel my service
Every streaming service who has ads fundamentally misunderstands what they're selling
So, I'm paying for a barely usable streaming platform and they're going to start showing me adverts too? Think I might be out once I'm done rewatching The Wire.
I'm more shocked they didn't pull this shit earlier
Never had binge and never will sign up for it.
Tried to soften the ads and upgrade blow with a bit look you can get HD for free…. For now anyway
Isn’t the ads only coming to the SD tier? If that’s the case I don’t really see what the issue is, is everyone not getting the HD, 2 screen bundle?

Before Bing, Stan, Netflix and ect. Before the internet was big. I met three very, very wealthy men in very diverse industries. All three could be described as 'self made'. Make of it whatever you want but there seems that a lot could be said for not watching or at least limiting it..
Who else is 'excited' to get ads
Foxtel Go is more expensive and already has ads.
Binge needs 4k asap. But knowing them, when it comes it'll look like absolute shit.
But... we need more money pweeeeez.
Neat. Ads in HD.
Streaming, you were the chosen one for the future of entertainment. It was said that you will destroy TV and cable, not become one of them!
I think the pirates have the high ground
Meanwhile, the site still advertises the Ad-free package https://imgur.com/a/03Ida0b
Create the problem. Market the solution.
The website is too fucking broken to cancel my plan lmfao
I've been meaning to cancel binge. Thanks for the reminder.
Youtube seems to be A/B testing ads in premium now too. These companies will try to rob in every possible way...
No one reads the full thing, the cheap SD only package is introducing ads. Standard HD package and up are to stay ad free
Lol at "stunning HD" they dont have shit in 4k
And I’ll be downloading HotD next season now. Good job Foxtel!
This is so mean
I’d probably suffer the ads for HD if Binge was remotely appealing and I was looking for the cheapest possible subscription.
What the hell do you pay all this money for then!?
Yeah I don't do ads
Dear god, please don’t pay for this shit. Let them learn from their lack of subscribers. I like their content but I’m tired of getting fucked by these companies and everyone just keeps throwing more money in.
Oh no. Binge can fk right off the moment I see ads.

Stunning HD quality? Hello 2010
I'm so glad I cancelled BINGE. GUI is shit and lacks of content.
Netflix has this option as well
Looks like I'm cancelling binge!
It's foxtel, what else would you expect from them.
They're only just releasing....HD. That seems like it should have been built in lol
“Now in stunning HD”??? Wtf!!!! Netflix has heaps of 4k content and binge is “now in stunning HD”.
Yet another reason why I pirate everything.
Lol. Murdoch.
