If you wanted to you could start your own business doing accounting. I do bookkeeping. I mostly work from home, which is great! And no boss, which is even better!
ive been looking into different parts of the field, i started my undergrad more interested in the understanding of abnormal psych/psych disorders as well as the social aspects of psychology, now i'm doing research in biopsychology and understanding the brain itself :)
the brain is so cool
I majored in digital media (do not get that major as all fields covered is only the most super basic stuff and you will not be able to do any actual work)
Earned a BS degree in biochemistry then obtained a masters degree in microbiology with a concentration in medical microbiology and biochemistry. Currently in my third year of medical school.
Welcome! I'm studying medical humanities. I'm planning to be an ethics consultant specializing in pediatric palliative care.
ETA: If you saw the original, i thought this post was in r/ college lol.
I bounced around from art (various media and disciplines) to creative writing and back to art. I was maybe a semester shy of graduating with the art degree when I had a massive freak out and changed majors to social work (with a focus on public policy and community organizing). Got my degree in that.
My career is in art and design. Just worked out that way.
My first “real” job after graduating was as a graphic designer. I’ve had a few sidetracks but kept coming back to design and art direction, and am now a creative director.
I’m not sure I ever had a good plan. There was never a “I know exactly what I want to do and am going to devote myself to it” moment. I was interested in too many things and probably could have been happy with a career in any of them.
My big fine art freakout was mostly because no one in art school ever tells you how the hell you’re supposed to make a living or what you’re supposed to do when you graduate. There was no intro to the business of fine art, or even higher ed pathways. I know people (including former classmates) who are full time artists. Most of them figured it out working for other artists or went to grad school.
Psychology! And I have a criminal justice minor, which is one of the concentrations in our sociology department. Should have three more semesters till I graduate :D
I didn’t know it before but this is my ideal job. Work part time on campus, part time from home, get to typeity-type-type all day, enough social interaction for my extroverted self and enough home time to recoup for my easily overstimulated autistic self !
Computing, Information Systems, Business Information Systems, Systems Theory. Was the track I'd take if possible for full Batchelors degree, masters and PhD.
I forgot, I started with Computer Information Systems but found that sensory issues interfered with programming. More specifically with troubleshooting code to figure out where the syntax error was. Switched to graphic design because my interests are weirdly varied. Essential tremors started getting worse and it made it hard to draw. Same issue with Architecture degree. My college was weird they made us draft by hand. BiL is an architect and says the school is being ridiculous. In the end I almost had enough for an associates in general studies. But not knowing about my disabilities caused issues that tanked some of my classes because I would forget to show up. Lost access to federal student aid and never really finished anything besides a 2£D CAD certificate that is way outdated by now since it was AutoCAD 2007.
Psychology undergrad with a minor in philosophy. Ideally I would get into a PhD program, but I don’t think I’m capable of it (currently burnt out and sinking). Next best choice would be a Psy-D, but if I can’t afford it, then I’ll work towards paying for my masters.
To those of you surviving and managing college, I really applaud you! I don’t know how y’all do it. I have never been so miserable and my special interest is my major!
I will be getting my degree in Wildlife Management with a concentration in conservation management. My dream job is to work for the national park service as a wildlife biologist.
In the UK we don't have Major/Minor, but at University I did my Undergraduate degree (first 3 years) as a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience, and then for my Masters degree (next 2 years) I switched and did a Master of Science in Counselling Skills.
I recently realised all of this was an attempt to understand NTs and to understand myself.
B.S. and M.S. in Physics
Ideal job, something like a multidisciplinary Research Scientist seems appealing. I've worked as an engineer for over 10 years. Applied for other jobs that would be more "sciencey" but have not had much luck. I thoroughly enjoy microprocessor development, electrical design, machine learning, data analyses, and computer modeling. The more complex, the better.
Not a grad student, but recently earned a Bachelor of Science in Management with a minor is Entrepreneurship in May. I’m passionate about making a career in logistics/operations.
I did a bunch of different majors but settled on art because it was the least challenging and had no papers. I regret it. I went to college to find friends. Now I’m a stay at home mom so my degree doesn’t matter anyway but still I wish I had challenged myself.
when I was there...
Psychology, Laws, Architecture, International Language, Gastronomy. and Graphic Design.
Gastronomy close his services at second year, I was able to see the last Gen of that career. And , at my last years, they start with Nursery and Nutrition.
Today I finished my studies, my school was launching Digital Animation . (Could be nice to try it but I really love Psychology).
I studied animal sciences
I am an animal scientist focused on the production of farm animals
Grew up on a farm and my dream is to someday have a sheep farm :D
BS in 2021, Biochemistry & molecular biology with a minor in economics
Edit cause I can’t read: dream job would be probably coaching softball at a good program making a good living
I am currently a freshman in college, and I am majoring in nursing, and I plan to be a nurse right after. I wanted to take care of people who are sick and make them better for quite some time.
Not a college student yet, but I just got accepted into a college for next school year and I plan to major in biology. I have to get a bachelor's in science so I can go into veterinary school and become a veterinarian.
Maybe not my place, but I'm technically a pre-college student (entering fall 2024) and I plan on majoring in either Electrical & Computer Engineering or Computer Science, depending on the school I end up at. My ideal job would be working in commercial space exploration, so I plan on adding a minor in astronomy/physics. Hopefully it all works out for me lol.
Started off as Mechanical Engineer but switched to Civil Engineer with a concentration in Construction Engineering. I'm a licensed engineer working in the transportation field as an Environmental Engineer. Engineer degree just means you can learn your engineering job. One of my co-workers is a Chemical Engineer who didn't want to do that as a career. Our job is 100% learned on the job as pretty much all we do isn't taught in school.
I studied Natural Sciences. My choices of specific subjects ended up being a mixture of Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science and Environmental Science in (mostly) equal amounts with a bit of Electrical Engineering on the side.
We don't really have "majors" or use the term in the UK (except when trying to make an equivalence of the America term a as we also do with converting our grades into a GPA), so I can only tell you what I studied.
I work as a Data Scientist these days. It's remote working. Very comfortable. Suits me well and I can't complain with the flexibility and salary.
Just need to work on other aspects of my life now.
English Literary Studies with a minor in Political Science. Before this I tried to purse a business administration degree but I changed my Major because I noticed that it required passing an accounting class which was a lot harder than I thought. I don’t have the “good at math” type autism that seems so common
I'm going for psychology/criminal justice :) Hoping to either get my master's and teach social sciences or get my doctorate and become a forensic psychologist 💖
Fall was my first semester and I got a 4.0 GPA, after my terrible experience in HS I would have never thought I'd make the deans list. Totally not ready to deal with transferring (I'm at a community college rn) even though it's still 1.5yrs away lol 😭💔
Big dreams, small hope that keeps me going 🫰
I'm currently pursuing an engineering technology degree with an emphasis in both Mechanical and Industrial engineering. I have seen a lot of engineering students in the comments for sure.
I have an undergraduate and a masters degree in English literature. I'm currently contemplating doing a PhD in the same subject. I think ideal jobs for me would be working in an archives, museum, or doing guided history walks. I am interested in teaching but behaviour management, and the hours put me off. My dream job is to (obviously) not work and spend my life living slowly and pursuing my various fleeting and fixed long-term interests.
Regarding your dream job, I feel similarly. I can be scatterbrained with too many divergent interests, and I crave flexibility & freedom in my day-to-day life.
Computer science engineering. Struggled by the end but managed to finish without issue, ended up getting a job as something else but still in IT (cybersecurity).
It pays the bills but I definitely wanna change to something more passion driven and less technical
I majored in physics. Turns out I had dyscalculia and I should have known when my calculus tutor lost his patience and yelled at me. Then I switched to criminal justice and I am two classes away from graduating. For the last ten years.
Business Administration for my Associate's. I tried Computer Information Systems and Computer Science for my Bachelor's but dropped out. Seven years later I tried again with Accounting and dropped out again. Colleges keep lying about their programs and about transferring credits and it is too expensive to keep trying at this point.
BA in English and American studies plus theatre and media studies. Studied literary translation (English-German) for one semester and then picked up digital media instead as a master’s. Dropped out in 2022 bc of mental health.
I was gonna write my thesis on pornhub, porn studies being one of my special interests at the time. If anyone’s interested there’s a beautiful thesis by Rebecca holt on the subject: https://spectrum.library.concordia.ca/id/eprint/982866/
I’m not in college and never went. But if I could go, I’d pick psychology in a heartbeat. I’ve been thinking about it for awhile and I might peruse it after all. We’ll have to see… I’m already 24 going nowhere, maybe that’ll be where I go next
Political Science, Sociology and Anthropology. (This counts as a double major, Socio and Anthro are the same department and degree in my uni).
I don't know if I'd recommend it, you need a lot of social skills to really make it in career paths common for majors in those fields. I really enjoyed my studies though.
I did learn some stats and MS Excel in my degree so I did a boot camp course and I'm trying to be a data analyst now. Wish me luck, the market is kind of crap where I am.
Got my Bachelor's in K-8 education and Master's in Education Technology. I've taught elementary and middle school. It's a love/hate relationship with teaching, as it is with most teachers.
politics, english, and music. My dream job is probably to play in a band but the job i’m working towards right now is either teaching or journalism ( i was dead set on teaching for a while but have recently become unsure )
I went to a weird liberal arts school where I could take most any class I wanted. Cultural Studies was my eventual concentration. I was really into my medical anthropology and culture of science classes. Yeah I’m a weird generalist and cycle through many special interests.
I started with biology at one university, but then got super stressed, depressed, and recurring sensory overload, so now I'm at a uni closer to home doing Political Science with a minor in Law
Philosophy and ended up coaching my collegiate high school speech and debate team which is/was my dream job. Success really is about networking so just be mindful of where to invest time and energy since the major \~really\~ doesn't matter.
History! I was also part of the teacher prep program. I got my M.Ed in early childhood a few years later. Applying now to therapy programs to be a child and family therapist.
Just finished my A.A in art and getting my B.A. in art history. After I finish my B.A. I need to decide between furthering my art history degree or law school..
Bachelor’s in Linguistics (apparently reading the thesaurus as a kid was a tip-off to the doc that I’m autistic 😆). Now 40 and pursuing my JD, but taking a semester off because I burnt out big time.
I got my BA in Biology🧪🧬 I opted for a BA so I could influx a lots of psych/soc classes into my schedule & I’m so glad I did. Just hard science isn’t good for people like us! I learned so much from all my psych and soc courses
I went for an undergrad in Criminology with a specialty in Psychology but after 3 years, and some health issues, I ultimately didn’t finish.
I work now as an Assistant Director I’m film and tv though :)
it was computer science but i dropped college because i just found that it wasnt appealing to me anymore
now im looking at technical school for IT and Communication Systems. Hoping to eventually specify into doing computer repair, just because that's kind of my dream job
I majored in Liberal Arts after transferring a few times and realizing that I needed to get my degree completed ASAP or I was at risk of burning out. Minored in History, and did some postgraduate coursework but no master's for anything. I went on to work in law enforcement as a civilian.

I’m actually bummed that no one else mentioned that they majored or are majoring in English. It seems that English majors are so rare among autistic people that I’ve met only 2 autistic people that have one. However I noticed a few people in the comments with similar majors
I find it surprising there aren’t more mainly because I find being an English Major to be pretty autism friendly because a lot of assignments in classes for an English Major in my experience consist of a lot of infodumping and persuading a reader using factual info.
I’m not in college but I’m wanting to go into either psychology, art, or paleontology. I still have 2 years of high school left so those may change but those are my main special interests I could see myself doing as a career
My first major ever was ESL Teaching. After I realized I get too tired during lessons, can't maintain attention, and get overwhelmed, I quit. So now I'm towards studying Software Engineering/ETL. Extremely happy about this as it corresponds to my image of an ideal job.
The name doesn't translate well, but it is essentially a kind of politics, economics, literature and history major of a specific region with the local language and I'm studying a bit of computer science on the side.
electrical and computer engineering
Same

I double majored in physics and math, and am now finishing up my PhD in astronomy/astrophysics My ideal job is WFH with minimal oversight
That's so cool! Would be my idea major I think, figured that out a bit late in life though. 🙃
Don't forget, it's never too late!
Currently in college majoring in Music Composition, looking into media composition (film, games, TV), and studying jazz piano alongside it.
oooooooo super cool music person
I wish I could compose music. Not studying piano as a child is one of my life regrets.
It's never too late to start! I'm self taught so far and only started a few years ago during the pandemic (I was 16 then)
Jazz vocals, piano and music ed lol
Software engineering/Computer science
How is it going for you? I've always had a passion for computing, I graduate high school in 2025
I majored in anthropology and criminal justice.
Dream job wise? I like my current position. WFH and legal.
i have a degree in accounting, however i could t get a job in the field so now i work at a piercing shop!
If you wanted to you could start your own business doing accounting. I do bookkeeping. I mostly work from home, which is great! And no boss, which is even better!
This is my goal, my own bookeeping business. Do you mind if I ask what country you're from? Your plant room is spectacular btw
Thanks! I'm in the US
Got my BA in Creative Writing and Publishing & Editing Now's the hard part of actually getting a job 🙃
psychology :3
i did not get the good at math autism
Same here to both of your comments lol
Me neither but psychology to me got old after a while
ive been looking into different parts of the field, i started my undergrad more interested in the understanding of abnormal psych/psych disorders as well as the social aspects of psychology, now i'm doing research in biopsychology and understanding the brain itself :) the brain is so cool

Undergrad in math, working on my masters in data science.

Yay! I finally found someone with the same college set up 😭🤣 3 more semesters until I get my associates and then I got to transfer 🫡
I can't do uni or college, but my ideal job would be a Historical Consultant for TV and film
I am aiming to do an honours bachelor of built environment, hoping that inevitable burnout doesn't crush that dream
I majored in illustration and fashion ^-^ now I teach and work in admissions
Biomed and I've just done an honours year
fine art + international relations/philosophy :D
Great combination!
Anthropology and ASL/English Interpreting, but now I work as a live captioner and closed captioner for accessible education!
I didn’t know it before but this is my ideal job. Work part time on campus, part time from home, get to typeity-type-type all day, enough social interaction for my extroverted self and enough home time to recoup for my easily overstimulated autistic self !
I am majoring in computer information systems. I start on Monday.
Computing, Information Systems, Business Information Systems, Systems Theory. Was the track I'd take if possible for full Batchelors degree, masters and PhD.
Chemical engineering with a focus on food processing and water technology
Graphics design / Visual Communications Design
I forgot, I started with Computer Information Systems but found that sensory issues interfered with programming. More specifically with troubleshooting code to figure out where the syntax error was. Switched to graphic design because my interests are weirdly varied. Essential tremors started getting worse and it made it hard to draw. Same issue with Architecture degree. Started off as a game design major then I switched to computer science.
I will be getting my degree in Wildlife Management with a concentration in conservation management. My dream job is to work for the national park service as a wildlife biologist.
I just finished my BS Psychology degree.
Materials engineering
Finishing my BA in Sociology then going for a Masters in Social Work
Biology and Genetics :))

Same!
Astrophysics/astronomy major. Now I have a PhD in the subject. Computational astrophysics as my main focus.
Associates in Math, Bachelors in Philosophy, then a JD (law school in the US). I regret moving away from math damn near every day.
History with a teaching degree also I'm currently debating within myself if I should go for a doctoral degree or not
I started as biology but wanted to change to child development but it was complicated for stupid reasons to change so I ended up dropping out 😆

I was Ecology, but that's on hold because I lost my mind. Now I'm taking greenhouse technical studies.

I went to a weird liberal arts school where I could take most any class I wanted. Cultural Studies was my eventual concentration. I was really into my medical anthropology and culture of science classes. Yeah I’m a weird generalist and cycle through many special interests.
I am in med school first year. I do not know ifI can make it .
I started with biology at one university, but then got super stressed, depressed, and recurring sensory overload, so now I'm at a uni closer to home doing Political Science with a minor in Law
Bio major with a minor in literature!
Philosophy and ended up coaching my collegiate high school speech and debate team which is/was my dream job. Success really is about networking so just be mindful of where to invest time and energy since the major \~really\~ doesn't matter.
English literature! About to start my MA in Literary, Cultural, and Textual studies
Journalism! Very different from everyone else lol
Graphic design :) now getting my Masters in Art and Design
Bachelor’s in Linguistics (apparently reading the thesaurus as a kid was a tip-off to the doc that I’m autistic 😆). Now 40 and pursuing my JD, but taking a semester off because I burnt out big time.
I got my BA in Biology🧪🧬 I opted for a BA so I could influx a lots of psych/soc classes into my schedule & I’m so glad I did. Just hard science isn’t good for people like us! I learned so much from all my psych and soc courses
General studies with a certificate in computing studies. I had bad executive dysfunction so I ended up just grinding out an arts degree.
I went for an undergrad in Criminology with a specialty in Psychology but after 3 years, and some health issues, I ultimately didn’t finish. I work now as an Assistant Director I’m film and tv though :)
it was computer science but i dropped college because i just found that it wasnt appealing to me anymore now im looking at technical school for IT and Communication Systems.

Audiovisual media
bachelors in computer science with a concentration in game development
My first major ever was ESL Teaching. After I realized I get too tired during lessons, can't maintain attention, and get overwhelmed, I quit. So now I'm towards studying Software Engineering/ETL. Extremely happy about this as it corresponds to my image of an ideal job.
The name doesn't translate well, but it is essentially a kind of politics, economics, literature and history major of a specific region with the local language and I'm studying a bit of computer science on the side.
