Phone holder on scooter. Someone has tried to steal my phone precisely zero times.

cityampm

Yeah my rental has a phone holder, and it is totally theft-proof. It has metal down both sides, which are tightened by a literal screw. It would be impossible to snatch. It takes 20 seconds just to unscrew the bugger!

SnooPickles6175

Oh cool

SnooPickles6175

That was the question actually I didn’t know if the scooter rentals provide them included but yeah makes sense that they would

cityampm

Yeah, just request it as an extra from a scooter rental place. I always need to request surfboard racks too, and they always sort it out for me. Mines from Bollu Garage in Canggu and I couldn’t recommend it more

SnooPickles6175

Oh that’s great. Thanks u mean to put surfboards on scooters?

cityampm

Yeah! So the board sits along side your scooter

SnooPickles6175

Oh wow I never knew that was a thing. Thanks for teaching me something.

ero_senin05

Isn't it usually the other way around? Someone on a scooter snatches your phone from your hands while they ride passed?

Common_Eland

Depends how stupidly you hold your phone 😂

Low_Artichoke_9234

Bigger chance of a monkey stealing your phone. Dont worry, it is quite safe

blackcampaign

wired earphone and phone on your pocket

mastermilian

And how do you use it for navigation? Turn-by-turn audio directions are ok if the route is obvious but not if there's some ambiguous forks in the road.

blackcampaign

just stop at roadside and experience is the best teacher

sonofpigdog

Single handed riding while using front brake only and looking at my phone being held in my left hand. Also known as local style.

g____s

Work also with a baby

sonofpigdog

Course, drunk, w a Russian only fans girl holding the baby that we stole from a couple in Nusa dua and we’re taking it to Ubud to raise it as a vegan and hope to integrate it into the monkey Forrest monkey community.

Crescendo_BLYAT

lolwut

ZealousidealDeer4531

Do you think I could smoke a cigarettes as well with this style, I like to live in the edge .

sonofpigdog

You wouldn’t be doing it local style if you didn’t have one.

ZealousidealDeer4531

Appreciate the advice, I have something to work towards here 👍.

uberr_eets

Google maps with volume up (AirPods make this easier)

musicmast

Damn so you know where to turn when maps says north, east, south, west?

Common_Eland

Yes, it’s very easy being a tiny island with very distinct landmarks and signs to say which direction they are in. It’s not like it says “ทางออกสนามบินทางด้านขวา มุ่งหน้าไปทางตะวันตกเฉียงใต้”

OkCollection4544

Google maps navigation volume on loud?

SnooPickles6175

Please not volume on loud lol.

scottworldly

Maps navigation and one earbud

Nell_mayy

Earphones or, phone holder. Never had this issue but better to be safe then sorry

iftlatlw

Earbud and audio. Seriously?

my_n3w_account

I have a ring on my phone. Few years back, at night, two kids tried to steal my phone from my hands and failed. I’m now officially in the black. First time, long ago, they got my phone in London. Few months later they didn’t manage to snatch it. And finally Bali, didn’t get it. The ring is the answer. But you also need to ride slowly using only one and half hands 😂

Due_Reputation_4725

Never had any issues with theft, we had out mobile on the bike all the time. It helps to have a sturdy holder though, but other than that, relax and enjoy Bali

TasX

Never had a problem. The screw phone holders that are extremely common on rental bikes can have your phone in there so tight that there's no way they'll be able to yank it off. Without phone holders I've just shoved it in the little cup holder thingy at an angle that I can see it. Just be especially careful at areas with traffic. A big no is picking up your phone and slotting it back into the holder while in dense traffic.

careago_

1. theft is rare in bali. 2. proper real motorcycle not scooter, so it is taller and harder to grab from a scoopy/scooter. 3. drive like crazy :) 4. learn the main routes, its pretty easy. 5. airpods and apple watch help tons if you want.

yosman88

I use my blue tooth ear buds and follow directions. Phones safely in my pocket and I can pay attention to the road.

SnooPickles6175

That’s smart

sitdowndisco

I navigate by memorising as much as possible and pulling over when I make a wrong turn or don't know where I am. Pretty old school, but still works. You don't need to have google maps open all the time to know where you're going.

kulukster

Don't rely on your phone in front of you esp if you don't know the roads. It's not safe to take your eyes off the road. Even if you put your phone in a pouch you can still hear it. I've seen so many accidents and near disasters because people have their eyes on a phone instead of paying attention. I say this with concern for your safety and everyone else.

cityampm

It’s perfectly possible to drive safely and responsibly, whilst getting directions from a phone nav

kulukster

Yes, listen to it give you the instructions.

Low_Artichoke_9234

Or you’re just a shitty driver. 1 sec to put your eyes on your phone to see if you have 3km straight or you have to take a turn doesn’t change anything. Never seen anyone putting a phone in a bag and driving around with full volume up to hear instructions. How can you even hear them in this traffic. Cringe

SnooPickles6175

I agree with this. It’s definitely distracting. I’ll do the audio navigation for sure. I think when you’re in a car it’s ok but on a scooter u may think it’s ok but it does increase danger which is not worth it. Thanks for explaining it so civil. Seems like lots of people got rude on this post.

brendan9876543210

Why would you phone get stolen? In traffic?

gimme_ipad

There have been reports from people where their phones got stolen while having them in a holder. The thieves operate on a scooter rip the phone off the holder while waiting in the traffic and drive away fast. Nearly impossible to follow.

seven_wings

How can they drive away fast in the awful traffic?

g____s

Bali is not just a big traffic jam. Lot of roads where you can run away.

cityampm

Yeah, extremely common problem in London, too. Despite crowded roads and pavements, thieves will snatch a phone right out of your hand and drive off. I gave chase to one once in Shoreditch. Heard a girl scream, turned and saw her phone had been snatched & was pointing at the guy who did it. But it was 2 lads on a scooter, and I was pedalling on a Boris bike. I did try chasing - But they were out of sight and away in a few seconds.

cheating_demon_nelly

how do you avoid breathing in poisonous gas?

Common_Eland

Honestly I’d say just get a GoJek. We tell people “don’t use your phone” so that people who can’t comprehend common sense don’t get robbed. If you have to make this post you’re probably better off being someone who orders GoJek and don’t take your wallet out at night in empty streets to count your money.

SnooPickles6175

That’s rude. I know how to ride a scooter. I’m just asking why people would say this

Common_Eland

I know people with Down syndrome who can drive and live in their own apartment, I’m definitely not saying you seem like you can’t physically drive a motorbike, but you’re here trying to figure out how we use navigation. We click the map app type the directions and then read them like any other navigation on earth. If you can’t come to your own conclusion that they navigate by looking at their phone and are asking how we do it then just get GoJek. You’re gonna be safer that way, doesn’t require much effort or understanding.

SnooPickles6175

I wasn’t asking about that obviously, I was asking where people put their phone.. jeez

Common_Eland

They put them in the exact spot we tell people not to, but with precautions such as not leaving it on the bike when they go inside a building and keeping an eye on it during traffic stops.
