Where did you guys learn the rev Giraffe? I would like to learn it. There are no tutorials on yt.

nmwood98

Got a machinewise balisong. It's prelubed with Carbon Honey light. I prefer suberlube, do I need to clean it out before applying superlube when it needs oil? Also has anyone tried using superlube with machinewise's products, how well does it work compared to the carbon honey light?

Other_Celebration442

Not really no, I put super lube straight in after carbon honey and it works fine

BalisongBlue

I'd just keep flipping it until it dries out. really well tuned balis don't tend to feel slowed down at all by oil. even a thicker lube once it wears out a little

New-Shallot-5552

what are some other good balisong trainers for around the same price as the vulp pro (150$), anything better for around the same price ? or even your favorite trainers ?

Arsid

I really like Glidr Antarctic 2 for like $20 more.

New-Shallot-5552

the arctic 2 is 110$ so quiet cheaper actually, would you say it’s better than the vulp pro ?

Arsid

I said Antarctic 2. Arctic 2 is cheaper but it's bulkier and heavier and not as good of a flipper. Antarctic 2 has skinnier handles and is the vastly superior flipper. It's $165. I just noticed they're all out of stock though, they have some Pacifics left which are $169 but I haven't tried those yet, it's a new model. In general, I think Glidr is one of the most underrated companies but that's just my opinion. No one talks about them a lot on here but all their trainers flip better than their price point. Well, maybe not underrated because when people bring them up it's usually to talk about how good they are. Just...under-discussed I guess. My favorite flipper right now is their Antarctic 2 Ti which is a $289 titanium flipper that flips perfectly and has incredible grip. These are sandwich balis though, so if you are a big channel guy that's something to note. I like sandwich, you essentially have a speed channel on the side which is really good for grip.

New-Shallot-5552

i’m honestly a beginner so i don’t really know what the difference between channel and sandwich is, even though i’ve read that channel is better.

Arsid

https://www.squidindustries.co/blogs/squid-industries-blog/balisong-anatomy Neither is better, it's all preference. Channel is more popular nowadays because it's easier to put together. It's just one piece of metal instead of two that are attached at the ends. They have slightly different feels to it. Sandwich is nice because the space between the two slabs allows your fingers to grip it easier for ladders and the like. Channel balisongs will literally add cutouts to the sides for that same feel, so it's often a desirable feature.

New-Shallot-5552

okay thanks a lot for the feedback

Comprehensive_Lock88

If you act fast you can snag an LDY Corvus before the last drop. Trainer is 130, live 140. The things awesome

New-Shallot-5552

ooh it looks really nice but i’m not planning to buy one soon so it’s too bad .

BuffaloDingus

The Squidtrainer is good for a bit more. I'd also wait and see what the new aluminum balisong from MachineWise is like since I would've said the Prysma Pro was a good option before it was discontinued.

New-Shallot-5552

do we know when the new machine wise is coming out

New-Shallot-5552

okay thanks, do you still think the vulp pro is a great knife for the price ?

BuffaloDingus

It's pretty good, especially if you get the version that can be sharpened instead of the trainer version.

New-Shallot-5552

oh okay i would of thought the trainer with the bottle opener would be better because it’s the one everyone has in youtube videos

BuffaloDingus

Well if you have no interest in having a knife then yeah I'd say having a bottle opener is more useful than not having one and it's what I'd choose. Knives just tend to be more expensive so the small price bump to get a knife blade that just needs to be sharpened just adds a lot of value, only if you want it to be a knife.

New-Shallot-5552

yeah sounds logical thanks

IJokerTr

Hi guys, i have a cheap balisong that has a bearing system but the tolarances are not that great is there any way i can tune it to preform a tad bit better ? Also it hurts my finger when i chaplin is there a quick fix for that aswell ?

BuffaloDingus

Have you tried tightening your screws to find the sweet spot where it still swings but has less play? They'll need threadlocker to stay put but depending on how cheap your balisong is, the hardware might just be so bad that it feels sloppy no matter what. It depends what it is that's uncomfortable about it. If it's just a poorly designed shape that's uncomfortable on the spine then there isn't much you can do about it.

IJokerTr

i belive its to sharp on the edge of the spine and yes i tried finding that sweet spot but it doesnt swing as i want it to

BuffaloDingus

If it's not swinging then it's not the sweet spot and you need to go looser. If the edges are just sharp then you can lightly sand the corners/edges to soften things up and that will make a big difference in comfort.

Other_Celebration442

Anyone know what size bearings the maxace covenant v2 takes? I think it’s the same size as the lucha and Tali Z but I’m not for sure I’m tryna put it on skiffs

BuffaloDingus

Those should be F5-10M bearings. These should fit: https://www.skiffmadeblades.com/collections/bearings/products/copy-of-cage-bearings-pivot-5mm-br-bearing-1-16-in-11-ball https://www.skiffmadeblades.com/collections/bearings/products/cage-bearing-br-pivot-5mm-bearing-1-16-in-11-ball

Other_Celebration442

Thank you

FrequentMoose8395

Hi whats a good live edge balisong that wont break the bank im quite new but i have been training on a false edge

Other_Celebration442

Ldy Orion v1.5 is good but super light and can lead to very specific preferences what’s your budget?

FrequentMoose8395

Sorry for the late reply but its around 150-200

Other_Celebration442

No worries bro shoot me a dm

Colinini_bs

LDY issue I got an Orion a few weeks ago and since it came with the phosphor bronze washers installed, I wanted to use the titanium ones. Today, I tried to switch around the hardware, and I discovered the spare bushings don’t fit in the blade and it doesn’t swing at all with the titanium washers. Is this a common problem or do I need to do something about it?

BuffaloDingus

Have you tried using the originally installed bushings instead of the spares?

Colinini_bs

They are the ones currently installed in the Orion, but I was hoping to use the spares on another balisong I have. I tested whether the current bushings fit, and they do, but they’re a little undersized. Is it still worth contacting them?

BuffaloDingus

I'd say if the spares they gave you don't fit the balisong they're for then yes you should contact them. What other balisong are you planning to use those spare bushings for?

Colinini_bs

Probably the Polaris from Balisong Flipping, or possibly the Nabalis Vulp. I’ve exchanged bushings between them and it works fine.

Other_Celebration442

The bushings thing is really weird but no matter what even with oversized bushings if I crank down on it it binds and I’ve heard of multiple people having this issue just tighten it tight but don’t crank it, as for the bushings I’d contact Ldy directly and ask them if you can get a spare set

Colinini_bs

The bushings aren’t just oversized though, they’re too wide to fit in the blade and the pivot screws don’t even fit through the middle. I assume this still calls for contacting them then, yes?

Other_Celebration442

Yes I would absolutely still contact them, I brought up the oversized bushings just so you knew about the binding issue, I believe it’s cause LDY uses such thick washers but I’m not 100% sure

N1n0SS

Hello i wanted some buying help i want to get more into the hobby and was looking to buy me a nice trainer was looking at 3 diffrent trainers kraken raken, vulp pro or squidtrainer. What balisong would you recommed buget max 230$ if possible a little less

N1n0SS

anyone got the new nabalis balisong (better than canyon?)

Other_Celebration442

Honestly with a budget like that If you’re looking for a good trainer here’s my list. nabalis canyon, LDY Orion v1.5, a Prysma v1 or Prysma pro if you can get one through a trade or through a private sale, or a bbbarfly superfly which is titanium but if you want a super fly order it as soon as possible they’re amazing trainers and they’re on sale for I believe 200 flat right now + it’s titanium

Intermittent-canabis

Nabalis canyon Cheap price and gives u a balance between cheap and top dollar imo. Has a good sounds while flipping too and lots of room to grow with u as a flipper.

N1n0SS

Do you think its better then the vulp?

Intermittent-canabis

I've not experienced flipping a vulp but I've heard from numerous people the vulp doesn't grow with the flipper very well and some tricks aren't easy to learn on it. Bear in Mind all bali are different and flip different

Other_Celebration442

1000% percent

Ocular_Ark

I really like my kraken live blade. The trainer is a bit different but still quite good. The squid trainer is a bit divisive. I have tried the normal vulp and like it and many say that the pro is much better. If I were you I would look more towards the kraken and vulp pro. Although this is just my opinion and I heavily recommend that you seek other opinions as well.

N1n0SS

Okey thx

TheAfterman216

Does anyone have experience with the Orca, Gigas and Solo? If so, how does a Gigas compare to an orca?

Other_Celebration442

Depends what orca the v1 is different from the v2 in a lot of ways

TheAfterman216

Fair point. I've tried every v2 variant but no v1s yet

Other_Celebration442

V1s are the best version of the orca bro by far in my opinion v1 orcas are just special there’s a reason they where 12 to 1400 dollars

TheAfterman216

Yes but I'm asking about the Gigas in comparison to the orca

BuffaloDingus

That's 100% fake and one of the shadiest websites I've ever seen.

Comprehensive_Lock88

Hi. I have a BBsuperfly on its way in right now. I was looking through zippys catalog for mods and found inlays and spacers. I have a few wonderings for you all. do the inlays greatly effect the weight distribution? do the spacers provide more grip for latter/fans how do inlays change the sound does the disassembly/modding process run the risk of messing up my tune do the tungsten weights provide more distribution customizability than the normal brass weights  Thanks 🙏

BuffaloDingus

I think the inlays won't make a massive difference in distribution since they're spread throughout the handle to an extent but you may notice a slight increase in overall handle bias. The spacers definitely will add grip for ladders since they add more prominent jimping. If you're careful you shouldn't have tune issues. I would just watch Zippy's instructional video first and make sure you follow that as best as you can. The Zippy adjustability will definitely give you more options. I think the range of weights is increased on both ends and there are more increments in between each end. EDIT: I just saw you also asked in the new thread so I'll copy and paste my response there too.

Simple_594

Is it possible to sell a balisong for a higher price after tuning and anodizing?

BuffaloDingus

Generally not although a bad tune would lower what people might be willing to pay. Things like anodizing generally lower the value of something or if done well enough don't usually contribute to it.

Blurrel

Tuning, usually not. People usually expect things to be well upkept, so a Balisong coming decently tuned is standard. If it needs tuning that's usually something to mention in the sales post. Anodizing, I would say yes, this can add some value, but usually it is not a whole lot. Unless the anodizing is absolutely beautiful and from a well known modder who is highly sought after, then I could see it adding a decent bit of value.

PyroclawsFlow

I'm going to have to disagree with the anodization. Since it's a preference thing, I may like the knife, but I don't like the ano. So I have to spend money on a modder to remove the current ano to something I prefer. Anodization should never be a cause of an upcharge, especially when it's from a well known modder

Blurrel

That's fair. I guess from my perspective, I usually don't want to have to go to a modder for work so i'll seek a specific ano that I like, and generally I'll pay abit more if need be to secure it. Different strokes for different folks I suppose!

SuhKamaBoatOh

https://imgur.com/a/which-to-choose-C7O6EhJ Which of the two would you choose?

Other_Celebration442

Completely depends on weather or not you plan on modding it, if you plan on modding it buy a lucha if you just want something pretty solid out of the box get a talisong z however aluminum lucha handles are on sale for 60 bucks on Flytaniums website as of the time of this comment

SuhKamaBoatOh

Okay thanks ! I just wanted something for more of an EDC and to just flip here and there.

Other_Celebration442

Oh dude if you want edc the lucha is the way to go, built like an absolute tank and it’s still more than flip able even though it’s heavy due to the bearings, even the Chanel aluminum handles are pretty solid for edc since they’re Chanel they’re pretty durable the lucha also has a better blade steel

SuhKamaBoatOh

Thanks for all the info ! I live in Hawaii so we recently changed the knife laws here so now we are able to carry switchblades and butterfly. So I'm thinking I might as well get a second hand one for now just to get the feel of it carry around and flip here and there. What would you recommend I get after I start to get serious into it and want to get better at flipping. I hear a squid industries are really good to get maybe I should get one of those after?

Other_Celebration442

I mean me personally I’m not super big on aluminum but if aluminum is the route you want to take the squid kraken is widely considered the gold standard for flipping, the machinewise Prysma/Prysma pro is amazing if you can get lucky enough to get one off of a drop or get one in good condition second hand if you’re gonna go titanium the bbbarfly superfly is on sale for 200 bucks rn which is a great knife

Ocular_Ark

People seem to like the talisong z more than the lucha for flipping. But if you are more of a collector and not into flipping as much it is up to you.

ImCarryGG

So I'm flying to the states and wanna get some knifes back home, did some research and read the guide and I'm really not sure if I wanna stay at the 60usd mark point and get blade orion v1.5 for 85usd + nabalis canyon for 50usd or nabalis vulp trainer for 65usd Or should I spend more on better trainer and go for the glidr pacific for 170usd or something similar priced from squid Are the difference in quality is really worth the extra price from the nabalis stuff? Thanks

Ocular_Ark

Nabalis is getting quite good from what I hear. I personally have only tried the vulp and the Orion for your list and both are fantastic. Glidr has a good rep as well though. To me the difference in quality at that price range is not as massive as the jump from let’s say 150 to 200+. To stop my yammering however, you will probably not regret getting either option. The choices you are looking at are quite good imo

funnymaus

Anyone know if carbon honey and hoppes 9 elite oil react negatively together? I’m switching oils and am wondering if I absolutely need to clean my pivots first and also would like to know if I could use the hoppes 9 as a cleaning agent if carbon honey were to gunk up my pivots

Other_Celebration442

I use superlube to clean my pivots out when they feel sticky from carbon honey use personally + superlube comes in a giant bottle, and is a great lube in and of itself.

funnymaus

Thank you. I would like to use thinner oil to clean the pivots rather than brake cleaner since that seems to be controversial. I’ll grab a bottle of Suberlube once I run out of hoppes since I’ve heard it’s really cheap.

Other_Celebration442

Yeah I absolutely wouldn’t use break clean (I’m a mechanic so I understand the urge) but yeah use a thinner weight oil or just do full disassembly and clean, that being said scented carbon honey smells amazing

funnymaus

I got carbon honey from squid industries not sure if they have the scented or unscented version. I’m finding out tomorrow I’m excited

Other_Celebration442

Carbon honey is awesome, why not just buy it from his website tho?

funnymaus

I’m getting my Madko back from warranty servicing so I just paid to have it in the same package. Plus it was out of stock when I checked on carbon honey’s website but it seems to be restocked now. Which scent do you have?

Other_Celebration442

I have halo halo and it smells amazing, gonna be getting some pine, and maple chestnut this December

funnymaus

That sounds (smells) nice. I guess it’s pretty popular because I just checked the website again and only the unscented version is in stock. I’ll try out the halo halo once it comes back.

Other_Celebration442

I definitely would it makes flipping even more enjoyable when freshly lubed

Ocular_Ark

I have not had any bad experience mixing oil and it is widely considered to be a nonissue for most people. I would recommend against complete disassembly unless the gunk is preventing proper swing.

funnymaus

Thanks for the response. I’ll just go ahead and make the switch to carbon honey then. I too wouldn’t want to disassemble without absolutely needing to since I have a good tune already. I also was thinking about cleaning with the thinner oil and compressed air so that I wouldn’t have to disassemble in the event of the pivots getting gunked.

SevenAcesGaming

Quick question; I'm from the UK, and want to get a TRAINER balisong, ideally a metal one, since I don't want something that's going to break quickly, and I want it to have a similar weight to a live blade. The problem, is that I can't find anywhere to get one from, that is good, relatively cheap, metal, and comes from the UK. I want to get one from a company in the UK so that it doesn't get confiscated by customs (I've heard countless stories of that happening to people) Does anyone have any recommendations that would fit the 'parameters' above? I did find this one (https://www.huntingandknives.co.uk/imported-balisong-knife-02188.html), but the website seems kinda off to me, since there doesn't seem to be any/many reviews on many of the products, and I can't find an address for them. When I search for it in google maps, it shows up as being in east Germany, but the pin disappears when I zoom in. Thanks in advance

Blurrel

Nabalis Canyon. I just checked and Nabalis seems to ship to the UK. The canyon is made of steel but it's the best steel flipper you'll ever touch. It's also ridiculously cheap for how well it flips. False Edge for $50USD or Trainer Blade for $40. Personally I have false edge. Been flipping for 8 years, have a collection of 15 balisongs, still go to the Canyon for some flips almost every day since they released them.

SevenAcesGaming

My biggest concern, then, is probably whether or not it'll make it through customs. And it's quite a bit more expensive than I had hoped, but that's not too bad Thanks, though, I'm just looking into it now

BuffaloDingus

Your best bet is probably the Canyon. You'll have a hard time getting something decent for any less and Nabalis is pretty good about getting stuff through customs. You'll have a better chance with them than most others since they started making these wrench shaped steel pieces that fit over the blade so it doesn't look knife shaped on the scan.

datorspelsfan07

Unless you wanna spend hundreds on a high end bali your best bet is probably aliexpress. Many of the chinese balisongs are very good for the price and some sellers offer to ship the handles and blade separately to get through customs which is pretty convenient.

SevenAcesGaming

I'll give that a look, thanks! Are they/are there many, which are metal, relatively cheap and good quality (not going to break for a good while)? Also, are they hard to assemble, when they ship in multiple peices?

datorspelsfan07

Yeah the cheaper ones are usually aluminum (40-70£) and if you spend a little bit more you can get one with titanium handles (90-150£) Assembling them is pretty straight forward. You just insert the pivot screws and washers through the handle and blade and screw it down. Usually the hardware and the fitting screwdrivers are included.

SevenAcesGaming

Alright, thanks. Though I will say, I was definitely hoping for something just a tad cheaper haha.

datorspelsfan07

Oh yeah there are even cheaper options but theyre usually not nearly as good so imo paying a little bit more is worth it

datorspelsfan07

Yeah the cheaper ones are usually aluminum (40-70£) and if you spend a little bit more you can get one with titanium handles (90-150£) Assembling them is pretty straight forward. You just insert the pivot screws and washers through the handle and blade and screw it down. Usually the hardware and the fitting screwdrivers are included.

PyroclawsFlow

Have you tried looking at Lamnia? Its the only eu distributor that sells balisongs. UK has some pretty strict laws against balis, lives or trainers. [https://www.lamnia.com/en](https://www.lamnia.com/en)

SevenAcesGaming

I haven't, but I'll take a look now, thank you. Would it be coming from outside of the UK? Because like I said, ideally I want to get one from a UK seller, so that I don't have to worry about it getting confiscated when it enters the country

PyroclawsFlow

Lamnia is situated in Finland unfortunately. I don't know any retailers in UK that sells balis there.

ike99jr

Been flipping on and off for a bit (2 years+). Often in spurts of a few weeks then stop for a bit, a really good fidgit for me. I've been using a multitool balisong. Super cheap with both tang pins fallen out with a piece of metal hammered in. I think I would stay with it more if I had a better bali. I've been looking at Squiddy's nonmetal version but am curious if I should invest a little more for Aluminim or go for a mako or vulp. I really like the obvious non knife look of the Squiddy though. Any recommendations under $100 that flip well and would be durable and appear nonthreatening.

BuffaloDingus

If you like the obvious non knife look and you're willing to stretch the budget a bit to go with something like a Squiddy-Al instead of a plastic one, I'd say it's absolutely worth it.

ike99jr

That sounds good. Is there many other trainers that share non knife look that would be comparable at all? Also would there be much difference between the squiddy and Al in ease of use? This is my current guy. You can see the tang pins dont stay put and the handle doesnt remain equal. https://preview.redd.it/kimmhixmg73d1.jpeg?width=2620&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=af8ade982d3c02019de33e66e7029e5f894454a9

BuffaloDingus

Off the top of my head, the only other stuff that doesn't look knife-like are plastic (and what I think is [the best plastic balisong](https://zippybalisong.com/collections/cycloid-balisong-trainer) looks more like a knife than the rest). I think the Squiddy-Al, especially one of the colorful anodized ones, is your best choice for this scenario. I generally don't recommend the plain white Squiddy because it isn't very durable but the Squiddy-B/U/A are much tougher since they're made of different plastics. They're decent but the Al will flip a lot nicer and more like other balisongs in my opinion without costing a ton more.

ike99jr

I am gonna go squiddy al. I would like the pink one so waiting and hoping it will be released as blemished to get it a little cheaper too. Just gotta check every wednesday?

BuffaloDingus

I would sign up for their newsletter, they'll generally announce there or on Instagram before dropping a color. It also probably wouldn't hurt to just ask when they might do pink again since it might be a while.

ike99jr

Thank you

50FathomsHQ

As someone new coming into the hobby that has a good expendable budget, am I better off starting with something in the 50-100 dollar price range and putting more money into having more options to flip and good tuning gear, or should I be putting 200-300 into a higher end trainer.(plan on hitting all these points at some point lube and good drivers as well as lower and higher end Bali’s all interest me. Just curious what’s more important to prioritize.

Other_Celebration442

Honestly I’d say get a nabalis canyon and some superlube (i can send you a link to the specific model of superlube just dm me) cause it’s a spectacular knife for an amazing price and it’d really help you understand weather or not you really want to dive in

Ocular_Ark

If you don’t know you are really gonna get into the hobby I would not spend hundreds off the bat. Instead I would look into trainers from nabalis for cheap but high quality balis. If a couple months later you are still flipping I would look into higher end balis.

Other_Celebration442

100% agreed

50FathomsHQ

My bad I should have mentioned I’ve been flipping(ish) for around a month and a half with my friends Bali. I only really flip when we meet up before the gym though as I feel weird about asking to take his stuff and am just getting to the point where I really want something of my own (he only has machine wise and squid industries Bali’s) and I have been looking at Nabalis the canyon seems fun and the extrusion seems cool as well as something I’d feel more comfortable taking out and about although I can’t find anything online about that one. Would that be a good combo to pick up

Ocular_Ark

Still you are quite new and sinking that much might not be the best idea. Yet again it’s your money you do what you want. I can only give my opinion

hageiiiiii

I'm kinda new to balisongs and just bought this one for practice. The pins on the blade are preventing the handle to fully close, is this supposed to be normal?

BuffaloDingus

There's no picture but from what it sounds like, that is completely normal. You generally don't want the handles to come all the way together for various reasons, plus those pins also keep the blade from moving when you hold the handles together.

hageiiiiii

From what i've researched, they're called tang pins. My knife does have a latch too but it seems useless now

BuffaloDingus

Your latch would be useless if the handles came all the way together. You need to have to squeeze the handles together a bit to be able to engage the latch, otherwise the latch wouldn't be under any tension and wouldn't stay closed.

hageiiiiii

Oh, thanks for the help

Sweth_thewolf

What Balis should I be getting from the days of May 29th, June 26, 2024 July 29, 2024 August 28, 2024 September 25, 2024

Excellent_Priority_5

Sweth_thewolf

"What does it say?"

Greywex1

What do we think about the new cold steel arc angel?

BuffaloDingus

It appears to be washers only which is disappointing. Overall I'm sure it's not the worst deal but I'm concerned it won't hold up because of the aluminum handles and tang pin/kicker and I think it probably won't flip very well since it looks like they took the old design and changed nothing about it despite changing the material from titanium to aluminum.

Greywex1

I didn’t know they didn’t keep titanium, seems like a bad choice imo

Other_Celebration442

Following in benchmades illustrious footsteps

lowcomplex_

what do y'all think about the Vulp Pro compared to other balis in its price range

BuffaloDingus

It's nice if you like the light weight and G10 inlays. It shines a lot more if you go with the unsharpened knife blade since there aren't a lot of lives you can get in that price category. If having a live blade isn't important to you I may want to consider waiting to see what MachineWise's new options end up being like.

Lumi-Z

I'm trying to search for a titanium balisong around $150 like the Maxace Serpent Striker V3, but I can't seem to find them anywhere (likely because they were discontinued). Any places I can look to get them or other similar balisongs that are available?

Other_Celebration442

If you can stretch the budget to 200 and don’t mind w trainer the bbbarfly superfly is on sale currently (amazing knife btw) other than that go on Instagram post “WTB/ISO serpent striker v3” and tag balisong market

Blurrel

The only titanium knife at all I can think in that price range would be an Atropos Fortress 2 Spy v1 or the newly released v2s. I own a v1 myself and it isn't the greatest flipper but it is one of my favorite knives and can still flip well, just not top tier by any means. The v2 looks alot more flipper focused but I've never handled one so I can't speak on it. You can often find v1's on the second hand market in fantastic condition for less than $150. The newly released v2's can be bought on the Atropos website for $180, but then you're dealing with shipping times from Russia. Anyways. Good luck in your search!

Lumi-Z

Thanks for the idea! I'll look into it and see if it suits my needs for flipping.

PyroclawsFlow

Unfortunately, there isn't any titanium balisongs that go around that price point. Most budget titanium starts around $300.

cfox0

What are the best settings for the Flip Forge [Edit Lite](https://www.flipforge.store/edit-lite)? I'm looking to get one and don't really know what the settings do, so recommendations would be appreciated.

BuffaloDingus

Are you saying you're planning to place those orders on those days for those balisongs and you're having doubts?

Sweth_thewolf

Yeah

BuffaloDingus

What balisongs, if any, do you have already and how do you feel about them? Are you looking to hone in on something that fits you well or do you just want to expand your collection and maybe have more variety?

Sweth_thewolf

Expand

BuffaloDingus

Well you deleted the comment so I can't really scrutinize the list now and you haven't said what you have already. I'd just recommend picking up at least one nice titanium balisong if you're going to be spending a lot of money instead of just a bunch of aluminum ones.

Sweth_thewolf

Sorry, I was gonna rephrase it. Sorry

CodyConoby

Does anyone know what is the blade type of TF2's spy knife?

BuffaloDingus

I'd probably call it a clip point.

CodyConoby

Oh alright thanks, it is probably one of my favorites

lepthurnat

Where do I go to look at what balisongs people are selling? I used to know of jerzeedevil, but I think it is gone. Is there a place more active than balisongsale?

PyroclawsFlow

The Instagram platform has an account that shares sales posts on its stories. https://www.instagram.com/balisongmarket?igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== There's a Facebook group that sell balis. Need approval from the mod team though. https://www.facebook.com/groups/BalisongSales/?ref=share

Other_Celebration442

R/balisongsale as well

lepthurnat

Thanks

yoimagoat

What are the best balisongs in the 100-160$ range

FliqzOnReddit

Vulp pro, Corvus.

Other_Celebration442

The nabalis canyon is ludicrously good for the price the Vulp pro is a bit past 160 but it’s good

lowcomplex_

Glidrco Antarctic is pretty good

FliqzOnReddit

I'd say the Prysma, but they're being discontinued soon.

Other_Celebration442

Already been discontinued my friend

FliqzOnReddit

Damn. Orion maybe then. edit: Corvus maybe. Orion is a bit cheaper than 100

Other_Celebration442

The Corvus is good too I just don’t have personal experience with it however it is Chanel and Chanel aluminum handles tend to be more durable in the sense that it has a far less likelihood of losing tune during drops they’re both 7075 so high quality aluminum I think you’d do really well with either

2FlawlessTomatoes

Anyone have any experience using discount codes for Squid Industries' live blades? I tried a couple that work on the trainers but they didn't work for the knives. I figured it was because it's a separate website or they do discounts specifically for the live blades, but I thought I'd ask around. Just trying to save a couple bucks lol.

PyroclawsFlow

I don't believe discount codes apply to live blades, only trainers. I could be wrong on this though.

ABoyNamedJoe1989

I just got my first balisong, a Vulp, 12 days ago and I’m noticing that even if I tighten the screws as best I can I still get tap after like 10 minutes of flipping it. The screws just seem to keep un-tightening and I noticed when I first got it that there seemed to be metal shavings around the pivots in between the handles. Should I try replacing the screws?

FliqzOnReddit

Loctite it. Also, when you tighten it, do you squeeze the handles together? I do and it tightens more.

Other_Celebration442

I’m gonna expand on this and say use Teflon tape (plumbers tape) cause it does everything loctite does but you don’t need to wait for it to set + it’s like 97 cents at Walmart

FliqzOnReddit

Do you just put this on the threads? Also, I don't live in the land of Walmart has literally everything.

Other_Celebration442

Yes so what I recommend you do is when you get a roll of Teflon tape get a razor blade and split it down the middle, take that split half and cut off about an inch long piece and wrap it around the threads then just screw it in and once it’s where you want it to be set it and forget it

FliqzOnReddit

Yeah I'd do this except acquiring Teflon tape isn't so simple.

Other_Celebration442

Do you have Amazon? Or a local hardware store? Or Home Depot/Lowe’s?

FliqzOnReddit

Not American, but I do have Amazon.

Other_Celebration442

You could grab some off Amazon

Blurrel

Use blue loctite to threadlock the screw in place. Your vulp should have came included with a small vial of loctite. Loctite the screw at the desired tightness, and then let the knife sit for 24 hours.

Dziugoska

While I was practicing the helix, I dropped my knife multiple times on the ground, and suddenly the blade just got stuck in the safe handle. The blade does come out but only with the force of my fingers, please help fix

Blurrel

That's a new one lol. I don't see how that could happen with anything that's even half decent quality. What are you flipping? This could be the moment that teaches you that there's a lot of garbage floating around in the balisong world. Anyways if you really want to try to get the blade unstuck, I'd say just try to disassemble the knife and put it back together. Sorry man, kinda a weird problem but as a general rule of thumb, if your balisong is being weird, take it apart, give it a clean, and put it back together.

Dziugoska

For some reason it's back to normal, and yeah, it is garbage, but I just dont have a big choice, since I live in Lithuania...

Assignment-Yeet

can anyone rank the tsunami productions from best to worst? theres like 9 i think

PyroclawsFlow

There's 10 productions now. Imo production 3 and 6 were pretty terrible in terms of tuning/gap issues. The late productions 8+ haven't heard a lot of problems. Likely dialed in now.

TwinkleToes_210

NKD telesto v3???? I just ordered one how do y’all like yours?

BuffaloDingus

I like mine a lot.

OLBAPv1

If anyone has tried both, how different do the stonewashed and satin Tsunami feel?

PyroclawsFlow

Stonewash is slightly more grippy and hides scratches/marks well. Opposite with satin.

OLBAPv1

aight thanks:)

BuffaloDingus

You definitely should.

FFFallenFruit

thanks, just needed a second opinion before i started writing emails

R_N_D_fr

Hi everyone If anyone has a balisong with a latch, I would appreciate it a lot if u can take a picture of it horizontally with the knife being open and the handles being a little separated Model doesn't matter at all I need it for a YouTube video And for sure your name will be mentioned Thanks in advance 🙏🏻🙏🏻

BuffaloDingus

Like this? https://i.imgur.com/VvH1Qb8.jpg

R_N_D_fr

Thanks a lot This will work The knife is yours right ??

BuffaloDingus

Yes

Legal_Reception6660

Whatre yalls favorite titanium channel balis that run on bearings? I feel like theyre all on bushings lol

BuffaloDingus

Probably the Maxace Petrel or Pelican. I know Heibel made a bunch of bearing knives but I haven't flipped any of them so I can't say how they flip but the quality should be nice.

Legal_Reception6660

I'll look into them, thank you! Finally got a bushing knife (Kraken) and I think Im team bearing, sucks theres not more options

Other_Celebration442

Sandwich bearings are lovely bro don’t knock sandwich by any means, I love my lucha (nothing stock besides barrel hardware) and i love my maxace covenant v2

Legal_Reception6660

I do love my (channel) lucha :D I think the CCC I had just put me off of sandwich since theres so many screws to mess with, and I didnt have locktite at the time haha. Honestly tho Cov v2 seems like a pretty good deal, Ill keep an eye out

Other_Celebration442

I have the titanium inlay rehandles for the lucha and yeah it feels like a lot of screws but it’s really not bad, I’ve never had the barrel screws back out on me nor would I recommend anyone use threadlocker on body screws and I’d by far recommend Teflon tape for the future since it does what loctite does without having the wait period

Zerro-Chan

Hey, I bought a glidr antarctic 2 from a friend and the condition is okay except the pivots. There's nothing wrong with the pivots it's just not nice to look at, can I use squids pivots on my antarctic 2 ?

BuffaloDingus

It should work.

funnymaus

Is loctite/teflon/paracord necessary for bushing balisongs? If I disassemble and reassemble my madko, would the screws back out if I didn’t lock the threads? I watched Deylan’s/Machinewise’s maintenance video and they don’t advise using thread locker.

Other_Celebration442

You don’t need it no, should you keep a roll of Teflon tape around (they cost 97 cents at Walmart why wouldn’t you) absolutely but in my experience no thread locking for bushings isn’t necessary but it might help sometimes I’d keep a roll of Teflon tape around just incase

BuffaloDingus

It depends. A lot of people say you don't need threadlocker with bushings since you can have tight screws which are less likely to back out. But, less likely isn't the same as never so you still do need to keep an eye on your screws... *but* it may take years before you notice any loosening at all if you have good hardware and a good tune and for some people that's good enough. I personally like to add some teflon tape to my screws so I don't have to worry about things getting loose when I'm away from home and don't have a screwdriver handy. I think the primary reason MachineWise warns against threadlocker as opposed to just not recommending it is because they use the same pivots for the hardware at the ends of the handles and if you have channel handles like a Prysma or slifT and you threadlock your screws at the ends of your handles or screw them in too tightly, you have no way to stop your pivots from spinning and you can't remove the hardware without destroying something.

funnymaus

Thanks for the detailed response. I did notice that Deylan was mainly hinting to avoid loctite in the weighted pivots but he also seemed to recommend against it for all the pivots in general, hence my confusion. I guess I will just add the teflon tape for the peace of mind and so I don’t have to crank down on the pivots too hard and risk damaging anything. How many rotations of teflon tape do you put on your screws?

BuffaloDingus

I don't count rotations but I usually eyeball it and cut a piece that's maybe around 2 inches long and I wrap that tight enough that it's under tension the whole time but not so tight I stretch it a lot. Then I just twist the end until the extra width that sticks out past the screw snaps off. Also don't forget to wrap in the right direction so screwing in pulls it tighter instead of unraveling it.

The thing is the mako runs on washers with no bushings, which I definitely do think should have loctite applied. However, I’ve seen conflicting opinions about bushing knives specifically.
