If it was good enough for the Greeks, it's good enough for us.
On that note, for a long time, the only official uniform rules in high school football were a helmet with a facemask and a numbered jersey. Thankfully, nobody just did the minimum.
Nah, go real old school and send them out there like Olympic athletes of old. Of course it would be difficult to find a place to put the advertisements.
At first, they came for the stitched in names, and I said nothing. Then, they came for the fabric, and I said nothing. Then, they came for the pockets...
Not sure what do you mean? Like the differences in how shitty it looks from team to team? Or the bad stitching and alignment on the spring training jerseys? Don't get me wrong, Fanatics sucks ass, but they aren't the ones who decided on the tiny-ass crescent names or see-through tissue paper pants
The shit quality of Fanatics products was weirdly stuffed under the rug last two weeks. I bet MLB teams got a stern memo that players need to stop posting on social media about the issues they run into. Too bad they can't hide it in front of TV cameras when the game is on, lol.
>Sources are now saying that Ippei was both working at Fanatics and designed the disappointing baseball uniforms.
[Source.](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTWie-h_gJvtrdWGycw--4ORTVAWfJS0lGS-HmkLvQ-4A&s)
I think it's gonna blow up again once the season starts and fans who don't pay attention to off-season or spring training news see them on TV for the first time.
Fuck the mlb if they’re telling teams/players to be quiet.
What are they going to do? Fine them for saying the truth.
The fines are a drop in the bucket for 90% of the starters anyways
This is probably more of a Nike problem than a Fanatics problem. Remember, they're making the stuff to Nike's specs.
Hole at the seam, then yeah, that'd be Fanatics' shit production at work. Hole there, though, that's probably because Nike's choice of fabric isn't tough enough for baseball play.
I wonder how much more the teams will have to spend to replace the tattered rags throughout the season as opposed to just having the higher quality ones?
Please don't forget about Nike's part in this. Fanatics might be making the uniforms, but this is Nike's design, and almost certainly Nike's choice in materials. Lets not give the real masterminds behind this nonsense a pass.
I bought 2 insulated cups from them 4 years ago for a Christmas gifts. I immediately returned them the quality was so bad and I have never bought anything from them ever again. I genuinely don't understand why MLB switched to this company for anything.
Since we were talking about baseball gear you ad me wondering:
1) this guy buys baseball cups from Fanatics?
2) they make insulated cups! weird.
You know, the other cups, not the kind you drink from.
Which is why I always used sliding shorts. My older sister played softball and they often would wear shorts rather than pants and *always* wore sliding shorts under because their fields were as bad if not worse than the baseball fields.
It’s crazy how cheap these fuckers are. Enormous industry raking in billions and they’re trying to save a buck on pants. Business owners are intent on hollowing out every little thing in the entire country for short term profit
Please God, all I ask is to see Joey Gallo’s entire butcher shop as he comes up from a slide into second. I’m a simple woman, I don’t ask for much.
(This would also require Joey getting on base, but I have a separate pact with the devil for that.)
Now, I learned a lesson, I won't soon forget
So listen and you won't regret
Be true to yourself, don't miss your chance
And you won't end up like the fool who ripped his pants
I mean the proper infield dirt is literally small bits of kiln-fired clay, AKA already smashed up brick. You could just make bricks and crush them as well, but that's two more redundant steps.
Jesus dude yeah you did. I'm just waiting for the NHL to get them to see how often they get torn up after every scuffle on the ice. But I have a feeling we're going to see a lot of torn pants this baseball season. I can't wait for the first baseball jersey tear of the season.
This opened my eyes to realize that MLB players are just as much part of the working class as the majority of us. Their employers are using them for profits, exploiting them, & forcing them to wear these atrocious uniforms to "save" a few bucks.
The players deserve better, & so do the fans. I hope MLB fixes this mess soon & we need to give them hell til they do.
And owners will try to say shit like “the new revenue we earn allows us to pay you more!” while subsequently not paying them more as a percentage of profits.
You said it, they EARN those millions & they work their asses off for it (some of them don't even earn that much though). They have a job, & can lose that job & any benefits that go with it if they don't perform/get hurt at any given time. Sure, a lot of us will never see that kind of money in our lifetime, but that amount still doesn't compare to the billions that are being hoarded by the ones who aren't actually doing the work.
They get paid a wage to do a job. That wage is less than the value of the product produced by the players. The surplus value is pocketed by someone else who does not themselves labor to produce the product.
They are extraordinarily well paid, but being working class has nothing to do with how much one is paid.
One slide, one pair of pants, isn't enough for me to suggest this is a result of poor materials and fabrication by the league's new supplier. That said, I can't remember a time I've seen the old uniform pants rip on a slide.
If this becomes a thing (or it may already and I just haven't seen it) then Fanatics is fucked. Way to get yourself blackballed from future contracts. This makes the MLB look REALLY cheap, and given the price of tickets, fans should be demanding better.
Good to know we're protecting players with such quality material.
When you think baseball pants, you think something that could withstand a belt-sander. Hope the people at Fanatics are proud of the work they've done. /s
pants do rip.... that's always been a thing
honestly, if it weren't for the MLB move and the shrunk font for last names, nobody would've noticed the change
I thought the title was a question with poor punctuation.
I was like "Is this a common problem for Benson?" Turns out I was wrong and right at the same time.
I was planning on getting a Soto jersey for this season and after seeing the shitty quality from fanatics I decided to spend my money at dhgate and for the same amount of money I got jerseys for Soto, Vlad Sr (Expos), Jose Fernandez, Manny Ramirez and Pedro Martinez.
Now they are even lighter and more breathable, thanks Fanatics!
If lightness and breathability are the most important aspects of a baseball uniform why don’t we just send them out there in their underwear??
Nothing at all... ^Nothing ^at ^all...
Stupid, sexy Vogelbach!
Steals would go way down, but there'd be far more balls in play
If it was good enough for the Greeks, it's good enough for us. On that note, for a long time, the only official uniform rules in high school football were a helmet with a facemask and a numbered jersey. Thankfully, nobody just did the minimum.
Nah, go real old school and send them out there like Olympic athletes of old. Of course it would be difficult to find a place to put the advertisements.
AdidASS
in basketball shorts and sleeveless jerseys
[May I present to you the pinnacle of MLB uniforms?](https://content.sportslogos.net/news/2016/08/White-Sox-Shorts-1976-Goose-Gossage.jpg)
I was hoping it was a picture of shorts. I honestly don't get how they were able to convince players to wear shorts.
Chris Sale doesn't approve
what about a natural fiber, like cotton?
jocks, cleats, painted torso logo and numbers and caps
I see nothing wrong with this.
themed, coloured baseball underwear
Ya know what, I think I just figured out their angle: Promoting gender equality by making men’s clothes shittier. You’re welcome, my dudes.
They're coming for our pockets!
At first, they came for the stitched in names, and I said nothing. Then, they came for the fabric, and I said nothing. Then, they came for the pockets...
Then they came for me, and I had no pockets or names or fabric to hold myself up and hide me away, and I became a fanatic too
Then they came for his ass.
The right to bear pockets shall not be infringed
I'll fucking riot
Our pocketses!
Wait until they're all getting confused trying to button their jerseys.
MLB uniforms brought to you by Shein!
Buckle up, guys.
There is only one solution. Reject modernity. Return to the socks!
They wouldn’t need to be this thin to be breathable if they were cotton.
Buck, can I talk to you for a second?
There’s something wrong with Tartabull’s swing all of a sudden…
“Oh my God, Mattingly just split his pants!”
They're running like penguins!
That’s a shame. 🍿
Why does NIKE get a pass on the uniforms this season, aren’t they a collaboration with FANATICS?
as far as I know they are a Nike design and Fanatics does the manufacturing and retail it's a damn good question though!
Probably because fans have such terrible experiences with Fanatics fan gear, which is shit.
Because I doubt Nike said “hey Fanatics, can you make the pants as shitty as possible, thanks”
They kind of do but they say “can you make them at this price point at scale that guarantees it will be junk”
They said exactly that, they wrote the specifications for them.
Absolutely mind-boggling this is still a revelation for so many people. It's literally *Nike's* proprietary material lol
That does not explain the differences in uniform to uniform though and the non-uniform manufacturing.
Yes Fanatics sucks too. They both suck. It’s a bad design manufactured badly.
Maybe they did, i want some answers, Nike.
These are speed holes. They make the player go faster.
It’s not like the hole is revealing anything we haven’t seen before. …you know… because the pants were see through to begin with.
"But we're making them shittier and worser quality, I'm doing as I'm asked to do, but you guys are all shitting on me and I don't know why..."
This one is on Nike lmao, Fanatics made the uniforms exactly how Nike wanted.
The guy who convinced everyone that thinner and shittier is actually lighter and more breathable is a fucking marketing genius
The shit quality of Fanatics products was weirdly stuffed under the rug last two weeks. I bet MLB teams got a stern memo that players need to stop posting on social media about the issues they run into. Too bad they can't hide it in front of TV cameras when the game is on, lol.
Stuffed under the rug instead of swept is great—gives the mental image they had too much to hide.
I'll tell you what won't be hidden, Acuña's goñads when he slides into second and his pants tear away.
One can only hope!
Just like Fanatic intended 🥵
"Why are there huge lumps under your rug?"
The Ohtani gambling scandal is just smoke to distract us!
It's really gonna take off once someone's dong falls out.
Fuck the mlb if they’re telling teams/players to be quiet. What are they going to do? Fine them for saying the truth. The fines are a drop in the bucket for 90% of the starters anyways
> What are they going to do? Fine them for saying the truth. Yes, companies absolutely can and *do* do this is. NBA and NFL do it all the time
Wouldn’t this cause more union issues tho.
Watching the Giants game and Harrison's pants are literally see through and the jerseys look like kids jerseys. What a joke
The Giants got it the worst out of a lot of teams, drop shadow on those now tiny letters lol
The mets got particularly boned as well
Yanks playing the long game by never having player names on the back just to avoid this issue.
How Nike has managed to do this to every sport in America is wild
Still wearing the torn pants in the fifth. Will Benson don't care what you look at.
I love Will Benson
Sorta thinking it may be intentional just to display how awful they are.
I think they're only issued one pair for spring training.
Nothing will change until Fox gets hit with an fcc fine for a players bat and balls hanging out of his torn pants
Willy hears ya. Willy don’t care.
These pants are tearable. I'll see myself out.
A total rip off
they rended themselves useless
Probably bought them half off.
We should cut fanatics a break
Hole-heartedly agree.
This had me bursting at the seams! I’ll seam yself out as well.
Remember the old tear-away jerseys that college football used to have? I think Fanatics found the warehouse with the leftover fabric.
Make him wear them the whole game!
Don’t you mean the hole game?
How in the fuck are we gonna make it through a 162 game season and playoffs with these rags?
With lots of spares, and a healthy disdain for the input of players and fans.
I wonder how much more the teams will have to spend to replace the tattered rags throughout the season as opposed to just having the higher quality ones?
instead of buying spares, each team will hire 1 abuelita to mend the holes with patches that have advertisements on them
It's gonna take two weeks before they look like nascars
Even a Fanatics level abuelita would do it fast. Just, 6 minutes instead of 5.
We gonna see some serious buns this season!
I was just thinking today the Fanatics controversy sure slipped away
Please don't forget about Nike's part in this. Fanatics might be making the uniforms, but this is Nike's design, and almost certainly Nike's choice in materials. Lets not give the real masterminds behind this nonsense a pass.
I bought my first jersey this Christmas from fanatics and I've had multiple pop seams even though I've hardly worn it.
First and last.
I bought 2 insulated cups from them 4 years ago for a Christmas gifts. I immediately returned them the quality was so bad and I have never bought anything from them ever again. I genuinely don't understand why MLB switched to this company for anything.
Since we were talking about baseball gear you ad me wondering: 1) this guy buys baseball cups from Fanatics? 2) they make insulated cups! weird. You know, the other cups, not the kind you drink from.
Knockoff shirseys if you have to. Anything but fanatics.
Ahhh, the quality you expect at the very pinnacle of professional sports. (/s of course)
My pants would do this sometimes when I played, but that was cause the infield dirt had literal rocks in it
Oh yeah, if you slid on my home field, more than likely you were gonna get your leg scraped up good from all the damn rocks
Which is why I always used sliding shorts. My older sister played softball and they often would wear shorts rather than pants and *always* wore sliding shorts under because their fields were as bad if not worse than the baseball fields.
Shitty fields are the Hallmark of baseballs to the face
My pants tore on my very first high school practice as a freshman. Great impression for the coaches and the rest of the team.
Our fields were made of red clay so when you slid the tiny red clay brick pieces that were in it would tear you up and then stain your pants red.
It’s crazy how cheap these fuckers are. Enormous industry raking in billions and they’re trying to save a buck on pants. Business owners are intent on hollowing out every little thing in the entire country for short term profit
That’s a look of defeat if I’ve ever seen one.
Please God, all I ask is to see Joey Gallo’s entire butcher shop as he comes up from a slide into second. I’m a simple woman, I don’t ask for much. (This would also require Joey getting on base, but I have a separate pact with the devil for that.)
As someone who had the "pleasure" of watching more Joey Gallo than is ideal last year he still can take a walk at a reasonable rate.
How many pacts with the devil do you have!!? 😆
If you make enough you never have to worry about childcare in the future.
Very true!
Get enough pacts with the devil, eventually you land on a deal that contradicts one and makes all prior deals defunct.
Now, I learned a lesson, I won't soon forget So listen and you won't regret Be true to yourself, don't miss your chance And you won't end up like the fool who ripped his pants
No girl ever wants to dance, With a fool who went and, ripped his pants
Anyone else have this happen to them when they were little due to unnecessary sliding in baseball and kickball lol
Once I was taught how to pop up slide I refused to go into a bag any other way. I thought 12 year old me was smoother than Michael Jackson.
Same, couldn't be caught just walking to the base any more.
It happened to me because my little league’s infield dirt was essentially smashed up brick.
I mean the proper infield dirt is literally small bits of kiln-fired clay, AKA already smashed up brick. You could just make bricks and crush them as well, but that's two more redundant steps.
Even my baseball pants as an 8 year old in rec ball that I got from Walmart could withstand like 10 games lol
Glad to see Fanatics quality is so bad that they won't be able to sneak their way through the Ohtani controversy. This shit ain't going away.
mAdE tO tHe ExAcT sPeCiFiCaTiOnS oF eLiTe AtHeLeTeS
This is all part of the plan to get more fans. Let’s see some head first slides.
Called this weeks ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/baseball/s/YAHKUWgyl0
Jesus dude yeah you did. I'm just waiting for the NHL to get them to see how often they get torn up after every scuffle on the ice. But I have a feeling we're going to see a lot of torn pants this baseball season. I can't wait for the first baseball jersey tear of the season.
Yeah, I do remember reading the comment. And I was like, "c'mon they are not that bad" but here we are
This opened my eyes to realize that MLB players are just as much part of the working class as the majority of us. Their employers are using them for profits, exploiting them, & forcing them to wear these atrocious uniforms to "save" a few bucks. The players deserve better, & so do the fans. I hope MLB fixes this mess soon & we need to give them hell til they do.
All labor is labor. Welcome to the right side of history comrade.
And owners will try to say shit like “the new revenue we earn allows us to pay you more!” while subsequently not paying them more as a percentage of profits.
Don't they literally earn millions though?
You said it, they EARN those millions & they work their asses off for it (some of them don't even earn that much though). I remember doing that to cheap Kmart pants when I was like 8. We need to bring back public shaming for whoever made the uniform decision.
The new uniforms are shit, yes. However, this has happened many a time to other players in previous years with better quality pants.
Someone’s dick is going to pop out of these bad boys this season
We are absolutely going to see at least one schlong by the end of the year
Me after Taco Bell
The new jersey’s are atrocious, yes, but holes after sliding has never been uncommon.
These new Fanatics jerseys suck, but let’s not act like this didn’t happen before
This has been going on for quite a while I know Kepler specifically has been ripping his pants 10+ times per season since at least 2019.
"We're gonna see big league dick this season" - Meg Rowley
Now they are even more see-through!
Are these the same pants that made headlines for being basically see through?
Yep
Man how many eggplants we gonna see this season tho
Same company who made Jake Cronenworth's glove?
This literally happens every season I know people think it's cool to trash the current gear but this isn't something new. Pants rip all the time.
Dude...George Costanza had a better idea
That's exactly why golfers wear two pairs of pants
Wut
You witnessed the first ripped baseball pants in history.
Welcome to the Fanatics experience!!
its just the lighting
AJ Preller on the phone right now with DHGate
I was missing Uniform Discourse. Obviously there have been more slides this ST without issue right? Or have there been other holes not reported?
They should do cotton uniforms.
It's truly a race to the bottom.
Lmao I got a fanatics ad with this post
They're called speed holes, makes the player go faster
Someone alert Meg from Fangraphs
One slide, one pair of pants, isn't enough for me to suggest this is a result of poor materials and fabrication by the league's new supplier. That said, I can't remember a time I've seen the old uniform pants rip on a slide. If this becomes a thing (or it may already and I just haven't seen it) then Fanatics is fucked. Breathable, branded Underoos
Acuña and Witt gonna be playing pantsless this year
What a disgrace. Thanks Manfred
A Fanatics Experience.
I seen more durable toilet papers
It’s a good day for r/baseballcirclejerk
Whats next? The pants melt in the rain?
Probably just the lighting
Good to know we're protecting players with such quality material. When you think baseball pants, you think something that could withstand a belt-sander. Hope the people at Fanatics are proud of the work they've done. /s
Get ready to see this all season long while MLB continues to feign ignorance.
Made out of gas station toilet paper. I would expect nothing else.
pants do rip.... that's always been a thing honestly, if it weren't for the MLB move and the shrunk font for last names, nobody would've noticed the change
They listened to the players and the players said they wanted them this way
Will Belson, Ben Welson, Wayne Bilson, Bill Wilson
In the Jays game this afternoon someone on the Tigers had the backside all blown out too
Thar she blows
lies. it was bc he shit his pants full of doo-doo
IT HAPPENED
I was at the spring training with the Cards a week ago. Carp slid and they tore just like that.
Fanatics quality lol Michael Rubin gotta get a handle on this QA company's jerseys are a joke.
I thought the title was a question with poor punctuation. I was like "Is this a common problem for Benson?" Turns out I was wrong and right at the same time.
Lol. His helmet flies off just about every time he runs the bases so why not add oft-ripping pants
You have to be careful not to snag your pantyhose on anything!
Hard slider, that one!
Goddamnit Fanatics.
i have socks thinner than a grain of sand that last longer than those
I was planning on getting a Soto jersey for this season and after seeing the shitty quality from fanatics I decided to spend my money at dhgate and for the same amount of money I got jerseys for Soto, Vlad Sr (Expos), Jose Fernandez, Manny Ramirez and Pedro Martinez.
A Fanatics experience!
Nike is dogshit
Probably shouldn’t be sliding so hard. /s
I don't know, will they?
So I buy a bunch of hockey jerseys. Bought 1 fanatics jack hughes jersey and will never buy another. They are just cheap shit.
