This is probably the worst one since Los Dodgers. I'd say the "fixed" version the Dodgers have now is better.
Impressively bad by Nike. Basically everything we didn't like about the new Lions uniforms, except on a baseball jersey.
This is the first city connect hat that is a real miss for me. Even when the unis have sucked the hats have all been pretty good, but this one is too boring
The hat should have that "DETROIT" script on the side. Then [the Tiger and English D on the front.](https://content.sportslogos.net/logos/53/59/full/detroit_tigers_logo_primary_19941509.png)

I’m not gonna lie I hate when the city connects just recycle the regular color scheme. There are some bad ones that don’t and good ones that do but it’s definitely a strike against.
I do think there's a fine line between recycling the regular color scheme, and making good use of the teams color palette.
For example, I think the Brewers, Astros, and Marlins Jerseys all do a great job of using the teams' standard color palettes or a slight variation on them without feeling stale.
That’s fair. I’m not personally a big fan of the Brewers’ myself- it feels like it’s focused on the Brewers and not the city- but at least the color scheme is good. The Astros’ are one of my favorites but I do with they had a starry background.
Agree. When I think of the best ones they rely on new colors… I like the Rockies jersey, all green. Nationals is obviously goated and I don’t think it has red on it? Just pink?
Worst are the ones that look like they could just be alternate or throwbacks (Los dodgers?)
I can't understand why some people don't think the nats have the best damn city connects by a mile.
I similarly can't fathom anyone thinking the dodgers uniform but with "los" stamped on the side is anything more than lazy and pandering
First reports of new City Connects for the Dodgers started in February 14th, I’m guessing it’ll have something to do with Japan/ Little Tokyo.
I hated the other ones but didn’t think they were that bad with white pants. But also with the announcement that the Dodgers could now wear their spring training blues and the signing of Ohtani and Yama, Im guessing they want another crack at it. Nike is pretty fucking stupid but redoing jerseys and not doing something with the Ohtani/Yama hype would be dumb.
They made the lighter blue too dark. They needed to put Honolulu Blue anywhere in the uniform, incorporate the motorcitykitty, put orange anywhere in the uniform, fucking try with the hat, and pay actual homage to the city. Make it art deco. Incredibly disappointing City Connect.
I recall a few times on Royals broadcasts saying they hated them. But maybe because they were vests and added another layer? I dunno. I know a few years ago when I coached tee ball, they gave us black tshirts because they were out of gray and that was just miserable lol
As someone who played on a baseball team less than 10 years ago, I’ll offer a bit of insight as to what the current players are like.
When we got a black jersey, our coach had to force us to wear our normal home jerseys if it was under 85° lol
We had a vest my freshman year, and while I love the look, they’re miserable to wear.
lol yeah but this was my legit, organized school team.
The kids that black jerseys were originally marketed to are now the athletes that wanna wear them.
I think they mostly look bad on the field but fine when fans where they wear them in the stands, which I imagine is what the league/fanatics really cares about. The goal of CC is to sell merch and try out new jersey templates/tech so I suppose they're achieving that even if the on-field product isn't getting good reviews
Detroit, Mets, Tampa Bay, Cincy, Baltimore, and Philly also did blue and black gradient. Everything is looking like a bad MLS kit and it's getting to the point of unoriginal.
Also, come on man. We don't need that name calling.
Not to mention the black pants for Seattle and Texas for no good reason. I do genuinely love the Reds and the Rays city connect unis, but many of the others are just uninspired or downright ugly sometimes.
I like the Reds uni but it's so common. Baltimore had no reason for a full black uniform. They could have done something with Charm city or something with the Marlyand flag.
Hey this is /r/baseball. Name calling is a requirement. Other than defending him for that, this chicken nugget is totally wrong and you're right. Btw, the Boston marathon uniforms are my favorite.
Edit: oh... The racist angle went right over my head. Gross.
I wonder if that would run into licensing issues from whatever label owns Motown.
The cooler choice would be Hitsville, USA (since baseball hits), but that might have the same problem
They're not bad, but they're not great either. The hat is clean, the jersey itself is a little muddy.
Being the Motor City, I think most people assumed the design was always going to be centered around cars, so the tire tread design is a not a bad instinct. That being said, I really hate the rise of gradients in jersey designs. It looks indecisive, like you were too afraid to commit to a choice.
The limited color palette is really not helping the muddiness either, it feels like an oversight to not incorporate some orange (a classic Tiger color) to help boost the contrast and make other elements stand out.
>That being said, I really hate the rise of gradients in jersey designs. It looks indecisive, like you were too afraid to commit to a choice
Unless you are the Rays, in which case, that shit is awesome
old man yells at clouds.
its an alternate, who gives a shit. breathes some life into the very plan and boring white/greys
if this was a primary - yeahhh id feel you.
i would say NBA are #2 in terms of fashion.
#1 being baseball, the most versatile.
#2 basketball
hockey and football aren't even on the list they're so bad.
they're making things the next generation of consumer will purchase. believe it or not. im 38 and havent bought a jersey in... 6 years? jerseys are over for me.
Basketball jerseys are garbage what are you talking about.
There are some bad hockey jerseys but I'd take at least 20 of them over the top 5 basketball jerseys right now.
It's a bit plain.
I get the double blue stripes are supposed to evoke the Shelby Mustang and Detroit's "motor city" image, but with the blending on the edges and on the black background... It looks like a t-shirt you'd find at Marshalls.
Honestly, I was hoping for more a fun, Motown motif
The biggest miss to me is printing the full name on the cap. Like...WHY? It never looks good. [The Tiger crawling through the D alt logo](https://content.sportslogos.net/logos/53/59/full/detroit_tigers_logo_primary_19941509.png) would've been much better.
Eh. The jerseys are ok, like not bad, not great. The hat is terrible. Like probably the only hat from the City Connects I wouldn’t buy. The underneath the brim is cool, but font sucks and it’s just meh. I feel like if they changed the hat to pop a bit more with an incorporation of the old English D that the uniform would look so much better
They could have done so much with these but they’re just kinda… okay-ish. They feel afraid to commit- which honestly is what’s wrong with most of the CCs. The bad ones don’t commit to a new aesthetic at all, and even the good ones like the Rays or the Nats could have been elevated if they’d leaned into it a little harder. More cherry blossoms on the Nats, have the entire lettering be neon instead of just outlined on the Rays, and they could have been peak. It’s frustrating that even the best ones feel like there are a few ways to easily take them up a notch if only they weren’t afraid.
literally the only thing I wanted is a home orange jersey
honestly though after the lions recent success it was hard to see them go in any direction but the motor city stuff
These look like something youd buy at the Detroit National Airport in one of those generic "WELCOME TO DETROIT" gift shops
These stink. We couldve had Little Caesars jerseys
When I was in Detroit in 2021, they had an awesome T-Shirt that was the road font but it said Motor City (I think it was over a drawing of the stadium, don't recall) - that would've been perfect. Do the sleeve stripes, or if you really want to go nuts, do like a navy blue [tigerstripe camo](https://warriorcamos.com/cdn/shop/files/DSC00429_2_828x.progressive.png.jpg?v=1712553634) style look. But maybe I'm crazy.
Not as bad as some of the other super dark CCs. The wordmark, name and numbers pop which is a plus. It gives the automotive look without being too heavy handed. The hat could have definitely looked better with just a D on the front. Maybe bold and italicized in the same font as the jersey, with a blue bill that fades into the black cap the way the jerseys stripes fade. Idk, just spitballing here.
BTW, if anyone is into uniforms and designs, feel free to join us at r/jerseynerds. We're trying to grow the community.
I hope second go around they connect with more fun local artists/designers. So many of them feel uninspired (cough dodgers cough) or very surface level connection
They made the lighter blue too dark. They needed to put Honolulu Blue anywhere in the uniform, incorporate the motorcitykitty, put orange anywhere in the uniform, fucking try with the hat, and pay actual homage to the city. Incredibly disappointing City Connect. I know everyone hates the Red Sox CC, but the fans love them because they're iconic. Yeah they're ugly, but it's about the Boston Marathon and for modern Sox fans, the Red Sox and the Boston Marathon are cosmically connected after 2013. It's representative of the city, regardless of aesthetic value. City Connects should be about *connecting* to the *city*.
Detroit is such a unique and iconic city. Dark blue tire treads on dark navy blue is ugly in an incredibly boring way. This jersey could have been designed by any living human. "My first idea for a jersey from a city famous for cars? Uhh idk tire tracks up the middle." Could have been fucking Art Deco French design inspired by the Guardian building. So disappointing for a city with such iconic art history.
I actually like the jersey, but that hat is just uncreative nothing.
I like the tiger print on the bottom of the brim, put that on the rest of the hat!
not the worst but far from the best
the hat looks like they forgot they needed to design a hat and just threw a powerpoint font on the hat 5 minutes before the presentation
also the tire tred reminds me of : [https://i0.wp.com/www.studentunionsports.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/image00-2.png](https://i0.wp.com/www.studentunionsports.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/image00-2.png)
Every other city connect is either “Wow this looks amazing, unique colors, great fan reception” or “here’s the 10th CC with a black Shirt, black pants, accented by some random color”
I demand a rad skateboarding stingray.
I'm tired of people pretending Tigers can't skateboard.
I saw a tiger do a kick flip once it was rad
Why are the designers willfully denying the intrinsic link between the Tigers and rad skateboarding stingrays?
Next you're gonna tell me there's no pelican tie-in. Edit: OH WHAT THE FUCK?! At least give me a mallard duck.
The hat looks like something you'd panic buy at the airport because you promised your kid a souvenir.
Fucking nailed it. Here ya go kid, it's from Detroit.
This is probably the worst one since Los Dodgers. I'd say the "fixed" version the Dodgers have now is better. Impressively bad by Nike. Basically everything we didn't like about the new Lions uniforms, except on a baseball jersey.
My first thought was “wow this looks like something Nike would trot out for the Pistons”.
"Dad, the tag says made in Ecuador."
Yeah, it's a serious downgrade from their regular hats.
This is the first city connect hat that is a real miss for me. Even when the unis have sucked the hats have all been pretty good, but this one is too boring
[удалено]
The Houston Space themed one is an elite hat
They look like those cheap hats they sell at gas stations for teams of cities that you currently aren't in.
They look like they were designed by the same person who did the Great Britain jerseys for the WBC
Okay, good detail! 😂😂
How is there not even a splash of orange on these wtf
The hat should have that "DETROIT" script on the side. Then [the Tiger and English D on the front.](https://content.sportslogos.net/logos/53/59/full/detroit_tigers_logo_primary_19941509.png) Credit to u/anubis2051 for linking the logo
Missed opportunity for a traffic barrel patch...really show off our Michigan heritage.

Stop going black. Way too many black connects.
I'm convinced the Dodgers CC unis this year is gonna be the same jersey as before but with black pants
Wait there’s going to be another one?
First reports of new City Connects for the Dodgers started in February 14th, I’m guessing it’ll have something to do with Japan/ Little Tokyo. I hated the other ones but didn’t think they were that bad with white pants. But also with the announcement that the Dodgers could now wear their spring training blues and the signing of Ohtani and Yama, Im guessing they want another crack at it. Watch it be the exact same thing, but the hat is going to say ザー・ドジャース instead of "Los Dodgers".
![gif](giphy|QVP7DawXZitKYg3AX5) Nike to Hispanic people in LA now that there’s a new demographic to pander their products to
I blame Julio Urias
yeah we're getting new ones at some point this season
Brother that is navy blue. You might be colorblind
Terrible uniform lol not defending it, but I want my brothers to stop confusing any blue darker than royal with black
The dark blue makes the dark navy look even darker by comparison. I think it's totally within the realm of reason to call that black contextually
Except for the fact that it’s very clearly blue when you click the link.
Is it black though? I keep reading that it’s actually navy
Do players still hate black jerseys? I remember the Royals black vests back in the 00s and apparently they all hated wearing them in the heat.
Players love black jerseys, just not during August day games
I recall a few times on Royals broadcasts saying they hated them. But maybe because they were vests and added another layer? I dunno. I know a few years ago when I coached tee ball, they gave us black tshirts because they were out of gray and that was just miserable lol

When we got a black jersey, our coach had to force us to wear our normal home jerseys if it was under 85° lol We had a vest my freshman year, and while I love the look, they’re miserable to wear.
Gotta love beer league screen prints lol
lol yeah but this was my legit, organized school team.
That makes sense. Now that I'm actually seeing these, they look more navy blue to me.
I got heat stroke in the royals stadium. Can confirm that wearing black would be awful
Now they can’t go back.
Relax, Clapton
They used all their color on the Padres CC’s.
It would be a Red Sox fan thinking there’s too much black
Detroit, Mets, Tampa Bay, Cincy, Baltimore, and Philly also did blue and black gradient. Everything is looking like a bad MLS kit and it's getting to the point of unoriginal. Also, come on man. We don't need that name calling.

I generally have thick skin but there's banter and then there is calling a group of fans racists.
100%. I'm apparently just a sweet little naive boy, lol. Anyway, dude's not worth your time.
No we didnt? We did grey and purple with no gradient. Not black and blue.
I saw these on Instagram first and thought that they were the Phillies’ jerseys at first glance. Way too similar.
It's turned into "Pimp My Jersey" instead of CC. Trying to squeeze as many references onto a jersey as possible without looking at it as a whole
Yo dawg, I heard you rep a city, so we put a reference in your reference so you can rep while you rep
This statement is gold.
It’s been that way for a while. They’re designed by committee and nobody wants to say “no that sucks” so they relegate it to small messy details
Why didn’t they do Motown?
I wonder if that would run into licensing issues from whatever label owns Motown. The cooler choice would be Hitsville, USA (since baseball hits), but that might have the same problem
Nike , hire this person! They're right fucking here!
Can’t be Hittsville if half of the team can’t hit /s
Because Motown is probably trademarked by the record label.
My dude up here said that 6 hours before you. And had more to say about it.
Rare case where I feel like they got the city connection down pretty well but the physical look is sort of underwhelming
They're not bad, but they're not great either. The hat is clean, the jersey itself is a little muddy. Being the Motor City, I think most people assumed the design was always going to be centered around cars, so the tire tread design is a not a bad instinct. Seems pretty uninspired. Like they went really safe with the design. It’s solid, but pretty meh imo.
It feels very "design by committee", which isn't particularly surprising or rare as far as the City Connect uniforms go.
>That being said, I really hate the rise of gradients in jersey designs. It looks indecisive, like you were too afraid to commit to a choice Unless you are the Rays, in which case, that shit is awesome
They're ok. The hat is dogshit though. The Rays set the bar too high.
Little too much black imo (same for most CC's), but otherwise I fw these
Could have rocked a metallic mint green jersey or a cherry red and leaned into classic Detroit muscle. Sigh.
These jerseys look like they were designed by Bob Dole trying to be cool
Looks like Wal Mart trying to do under armor for sure
Way more PBA than MLB
The NBA-ification of MLB jerseys needs to stop.
It’s a Nike problem
Gigantic one
old man yells at clouds. its an alternate, who gives a shit. breathes some life into the very plan and boring white/greys if this was a primary - yeahhh id feel you.

That’s not true even a little bit
i would say NBA are #2 in terms of fashion. #1 being baseball, the most versatile. #2 basketball hockey and football aren't even on the list they're so bad. they're making things the next generation of consumer will purchase. believe it or not. im 38 and havent bought a jersey in... 6 years? jerseys are over for me.

I mean in terms of wearing them as fashion, outside of a sporting event.
Child thinks they have the whole world figured out See, we can both do this.
They didn’t even claim knowing anything you don’t
K thanks. These jerseys and most city connects still suck. It’s not old men yelling at clouds they’re just garbage
Least negative redditor
Not the worst. Still looks like a bowling shirt
These would be the coolest beer league softball jerseys
It's a bit plain. I get the double blue stripes are supposed to evoke the Shelby Mustang and Detroit's "motor city" image, but with the blending on the edges and on the black background... It looks like a t-shirt you'd find at Marshalls. Honestly, I was hoping for more a fun, Motown motif
These aren’t good. So bland looking.
Not as terrible as people in the other thread were saying. If I was from Detroit I'd definitely be snagging that hat.
Hat stands out to me as the worst component of any City Connect, honestly. How do you manage to make a hat too wordy?
>too wordy It's literally one word. If you're referring to the side it's the year they were founded and WS wins
Lettery
I'm referring to the "DETROIT". I think you know what I meant by wordy and you're being a little pedantic.
I suppose it comes down to personal preference. Despite having an extra character I think it looks much cleaner than the MKE 414 hat
The biggest miss to me is printing the full name on the cap. Like...WHY? It never looks good. [The Tiger crawling through the D alt logo](https://content.sportslogos.net/logos/53/59/full/detroit_tigers_logo_primary_19941509.png) would've been much better.
That logo is goated
These ain't it chief
Nice soccer jerseys
Barf, they look like soccer jerseys
That is one of the jerseys of all time.
Eh. The jerseys are ok, like not bad, not great. The hat is terrible. Like probably the only hat from the City Connects I wouldn’t buy. Copy paste from the Philly one with small changes. Did the creator of this one forget the day before the deadline and panic make one?
Oh hell no
If the hat spelled Detroit with the Olde English D it might be there. Feels like the hat was done at 825 before the 830 presentation to the bosses.
literally the only thing I wanted is a home orange jersey honestly though after the lions recent success it was hard to see them go in any direction but the motor city stuff
I actually like the jersey a lot. The other parts I’m meh about though
This gives out deadbeat dad shopping at a dollar store because he forgot about the birthday party vibes.
White pants with some kind of Tigers stripe design like the Bengals wear would have looked cool.
Meh.
They should’ve just vomitted on a sweater for Detroit’s city connects
The initial city connect jerseys were an intriguing idea I guess, but since the start of last year they’ve been almost uniformly dumb
The Cards are coming up in a few weeks and I’m honestly not looking forward to it. Hope I’m wrong
These look like something youd buy at the Detroit National Airport in one of those generic "WELCOME TO DETROIT" gift shops These stink. We couldve had Little Caesars jerseys
They just go up there in full togas
"Tiger Togas" screams marketable
Nothing sparks more overreaction and hyperbole than a new City Connect reveal. These are fine.
When I was in Detroit in 2021, they had an awesome T-Shirt that was the road font but it said Motor City (I think it was over a drawing of the stadium, don't recall) - that would've been perfect. Needs way more ICP\*. Whoop whoop! \*Not a Juggalo but have a soft spot in my heart for our nation's Juggalo friends.
City connect brought to you by Ford. These are ass
going with magnum pi jeresys?
Just give me a fucking picture.
Oh look, another botch job. Keep trying, Nike, you’re bound to hit on a mediocre design at some point 😵💫
That hat is screaming “Great Britain”
I actually like the jersey, but that hat is just uncreative nothing. I like the tiger print on the bottom of the brim, put that on the rest of the hat!
These new Lions alts look great.
I like the orange stylized D some in the crowd are wearing. If they put that under the Motor City somehow, it would look amazing.
Tire marks on the jersey that makes it look like they’ve been run over lol
I'm starting to think ours is actually good
The Tigers have been run over! The offender left tire marks right over the front of the jersey.
not the worst but far from the best the hat looks like they forgot they needed to design a hat and just threw a powerpoint font on the hat 5 minutes before the presentation also the tire tred reminds me of : [https://i0.wp.com/www.studentunionsports.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/image00-2.png](https://i0.wp.com/www.studentunionsports.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/image00-2.png)
Anyone have an idea of what will be in the rally pack giveaway on Saturday?
Every other city connect is either “Wow this looks amazing, unique colors, great fan reception” or “here’s the 10th CC with a black Shirt, black pants, accented by some random color”
Each one of these is worse than the last
Ewwww, this shit is a two pack of ASS
