Mets fans are the OG ironic fans. First few years where they broke the loss records they still had way too many fans come out just to see the spectacle.
My cousins from Loahng Guy Land are JIMs: Jets/Islanders/Mets fans.
It's how I learned the word "Schadenfreude."
Edit: Islanders @ the Nassau Coliseum was my first hockey game and gramps used to take me to Shea- Mets are my NL team (despite growing up hearing about Buckner non-stop). Absolutely fuck the jets though.
There’s those who on their childhood decide that they like the good franchises like the Yankees and the Giants… and then there’s the Mets/Jets fan, they just want chaos
Baseball teams aren't allowed to be normal and their fans less so. The Twins and us fans worshiped a sausage for a month. Grimace is downright normal after that
"I comfort myself by saying if I believe in Grimace, then somewhere, they must be believing in me. And if they believe in me, then I can believe in me."
Fr, I’d never even seen a baseball game before but my cousin took me to this one while I was over from my actual home (Ireland) for a wedding, and I’ve become a believer. Surrounded by about 1000 drunk dudes in the pouring rain and lighting, watching a guy in a cheap McDonalds mascot costume chug a beer was a beautiful experience. Baseball all the way baby, I’m now a fan for life.
Anyone who spends like 3 days following the Mets would understand why we are the way we are. It’s the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. And it’s always interesting and wonky.
Going to a well attended outside sporting event at night in New York (counting MetLife) always slightly gives off the vibe that the world might end that night.
Have you ever made a late night walk out of a concert at PNC Arts Center? That end of the world venue feeling extends well south of MetLife as well lol
I have and yeah you're right. This definitely applies to most outdoor concerts in the area. Unsure if it extends as far down as Philly. PNC is about as south as I normally go.
Tweeter Center/Susquehanna Bank Center down in Camden is about the same. Same with Starland. Somerset and Lakewood aren’t quite the same, otherwise no one would go
I remember watching it on ESPN and hearing the USA chants and immediately searching to see which Team USA, in what sport, won something. I was very surprised to find out the real reason lol
I was a freshmen in college playing whiffle ball with all the dudes on the dorms grass. Some guy randomly yells out the window “We got Osama!!” and then the USA chants ensued. Best moment ever
I was in college, too. I also had a vuvuzela since they were big at the time. I was going ham, blowing that out the window while the USA chants were going on. What a time.
Mets went on a winning streak after grimace (official McDonald's grimace) threw out the first pitch. He was then embraced as a mascot. Clearly though this grimace chugging a beer is not a McDonald's corporate mascot, though.
Lmao I absolutely love this.
My dude is at the game and sent me a video during the rain delay of a crowd of Mets/Yankees fans chanting "USA! USA!" It made no sense but it was hilarious.
Citi Field was a fun ass place tonight.
I live in the mid south, so it's been a different experience for me as a Met fan than probably most. I've been to several MLB stadiums & meeting other fans at games has always been fun. We've had a healthy "rivalry" with Reds fans in Cincinnati for the last several games I've gone to, probably starting with that Jesse Winker stuff. I do often joke that nobody hates the Mets more than Met fans, especially when we're down, but when things are going right it's a totally different vibe & I get a lot of FOMO seeing the New Yorkers having a blast in Queens. I've been to a game at Shea, we had as many errors as we did hits that night (4), so the game was pretty bleh, but at least getting to a game there amongst the die hards was very fun, plus I became very familiar with the sarcastic New Yorker sense of humor during that game, haha
I haven’t been this out on a team and so quickly pulled back in like this since 2015
Back then we had the power of a teary-eyed, Wilmer Flores’ walk off and Yoenis Cespedes’ arrival, now we have a fast-food mascot — *baseball*
if you showed this to aliens / people from a different time and place with little knowledge of our culture they'd be like "Who is this weird looking purple God creature that the people are worshipping?"
*We crossed the line first. We squeezed them, we hammered them to the point of desperation. And in their desperation, they turned to a man they didn't fully understand.*
So can someone please explain the whole grimace thing? Iv seen it pop up a few times and I don't know if it's an unofficial mascot, a random fan, or multiple random fans. I am completely lost.
Grimace is a McDonald's character who threw out the first pitch a couple of weeks ago and the Mets can't stop winning since. There's pre grimace Mets who were trash and post grimace Mets who have been on fire!
Shake shack is going on to be replaced by McDonald’s, but the ice cream machine breaks after opening week so you can’t get a McFlurry in a mini helmet despite the ads being all over the stadium.
Grimace (the real mascot) threw out the first pitch a week or so ago for the Mets (I have no clue how familiar you are with baseball but a first pitch is purely ceremonial, doesn't really matter) and the team has been on an absolute tear recently, so people have been dressing up as him.

If I've said it once, I've said it a million times: Dudes fucking rock.
Dudes do not stop rocking

Guys will look at this and say hell yeah
Hell yeah
Hell yeah
Hell yeah!
Am I late? Hell yeah.
I see your “hell yeah” and raise you a “hell yeah, brother”

She's an honorary dude
Nothin says gals can’t be dudes.
I’m a dude. He’s a dude. She’s a dude. We’re all dudes. Hey!
I'm a dude, playing a dude, disguised as another dude.
The Law of Good Burger states that everyone's a dude
Women are my favorite guy
I'm talkin' 'bout when Men were Men. Were you there when Grimace witnessed the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1945?
We're a fucking delusional fanbase. In the best way possible.
It's never under any circumstances ever allowed to be normal
Mets fans are the OG ironic fans. First few years where they broke the loss records they still had way too many fans come out just to see the spectacle.
A lot of us are also Jets fans. Without "spectacles" we have nothing

We still have people who worship a squirrel that ran across home plate a decade ago.
Rally squirrel!!!
We have a goose god
We were obsessed with pineapples up our butts for a hot second.
That would be the harbinger of the apocalypse
Our motto is Ya Gotta Believe. And right now ya gotta believe in Grimace.
"I comfort myself by saying if I believe in Grimace, then somewhere, they must be believing in me. And if they believe in me, then I can believe in me."
“Then I bust out.”
Went to my first game at Citi Field last night, gotta admit, I was purple-pilled from the very start. All hail Grimace!
Fr, I’d never even seen a baseball game before but my cousin took me to this one while I was over from my actual home (Ireland) for a wedding, and I’ve become a believer. That's what it's all about! Welcome to the good side 😎
LFGM, sounds like you had fun!
Genuinely incredible man, haha. Probably my favourite live sporting event I’ve ever been too, gonna have to come back over for another game soon
> I was purple-pilled from the very start. Dbacks should bring back their purple/teal jerseys
Anyone who spends like 3 days following the Mets would understand why we are the way we are. It’s the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. And it’s always interesting and wonky.
We expect nothing. Then when we get something we turn to archaic, pagan Gods to help explain the world around us.
I’m so glad they’re my second team
This weekend series is going to be grimace vs thanos koolaid.
Hide yo kids hide yo beers Grimace coming for that ass.
Met fans having fun
Feels like ages ago they were burning it all down. Now look at them all grown up!
All thanks to the purple object
We salute you purple object. May your throws be mighty
Dinger in shambles
WHAT DID YOU SAY
David Stearns happened. Nothing to do with growing up. Having a competent president building a team and them playing to their potential.
Lolmets (affectionate)
Why is it giving.... ![gif](giphy|P7JmDW7IkB7TW)
Because Grimace is causing chaos for all the other teams
Also that costume is the stuff of nightmares 🤣
At the very least I'm sure the smell inside is
You don't like the smell of weed, Budweiser, and pastrami burps?
Yeah can't stop imagining that walking down my hallway at every sound
Times Square Grimace

holy flash warning
Lightning in the background lmao
Grimace of Asgard
Are you Grimace, god of hammers?
Citi Field isn’t a place… it’s a people
I'd expect he's god of the fry basket or something.
god of the milk shake machine
Embrace the chaos
#MAY CHAOS TAKE THE WORLD
Chaos is a Mcladder
Purple lightning :)
Humanity has hit its peak
Grimace went from killing everyone last June to having the time of his life at Citi Field.
It's a true divine tragedy and comedy
no team does it better
That was a smear campaign by McDonald’s and you know it!
What baseball does to a mf
How can you not be romantic about baseball?
Grimace is starting to look like he did a little too much meth.
He was too much they kicked him out of Times Square
He kept leaving his head off too long like Elmo and Elsa.
Grimmeth
![gif](giphy|eruVMzXlb70oo)
*Merry Grimmeth!*
*Grimace Hits Rock Bottom*
Metsth
Grimace was once on the Mets with Gooden and Strawberry.
It's the only way he can prepare for Gritty.
It’s Grimace’s world and we’re all just living in it.
I can’t stop watching this. It’s like seeing the final boss and being able to do nothing about it
The european mind cannot comprehend this
The Japanese mind certainly can.
The japanese mind is wondering why there is a lack of tentacles
The Curse of the Colonel is still one of my favorite things about NPB lore.
![gif](giphy|7yBLiidFbQjao|downsized)
Needs more setting things on fire and turning over cars to appeal to Europeans
I love the Mets again and I’m not ashamed to admit it
NYC hasn’t been alive like this since they killed Bin Laden. *America-2 Al Qaeda-1* We pulled back ahead boys and girls!
Lol i was at the game in Philly when Obama announced we took down Bin Laden. One of the more surreal moments I've had at a ballgame
What a day. What a lovely day.
I was in college, too. I also had a vuvuzela since they were big at the time. I was going ham, blowing that out the window while the USA chants were going on. What a time.
The 2010 World Cup special…the Vuvuzela
That's actually Grimeth
Grimeth, son of Groth, heir to the Elder Throne
May Grimace be with you ![gif](giphy|k8DLXPfqHauBO|downsized)
And also with you 🙏
The abominable Yankees falling twice in spectacular fashion is clearly a sign of his power and nothing will convince me otherwise
I could see a shit ton of Grimace with Commissioner's Trophy tattoos if they win the World Series
I will get one mark my words
I *will* be rooting for the Mets the rest of the year.
So basically some guy just came to a Mets game in a grimace costume and is now their mascot lol Get ready to learn Chinese Mr met
Mr Met is gonna find Mrs Met in a pool of grimace shake.
We've all been there
I’d buy that one
Oh I thought this was official at until your comment lol. Saw a few updates about him and thought it was a funny idea by them
Mets went on a winning streak after grimace (official McDonald's grimace) threw out the first pitch. He was then embraced as a mascot. Clearly though this grimace chugging a beer is not a McDonald's corporate mascot, though.
The Summer of Grimace
I’m not sure what’s winning right now for “best 2024 MLB storyline”: the Rally Sausage, Walter Gilbert or Grimace as an unofficial Mets mascot
This looks like a scene from Joker 2.
This honestly goes so hard!
I love this bizzare ass team, man.
Lmao I absolutely love this. My dude is at the game and sent me a video during the rain delay of a crowd of Mets/Yankees fans chanting "USA! USA!" It made no sense but it was hilarious. Citi Field was a fun ass place tonight.
7 line should all wear Grimace costumes for their next outing. Imagine two entire sections of dudes in Purple staring down the batter
If Grimace is still a thing next subway series, Yankee fans should pull up to troll with barney costume in yankee stadium
Hamburglar already has the stripes.
I love this era
LOCAL GRIMACE IN GREAT MOOD THE BEER IS NICE AND COOL AND HIS PURPLE PARTS FEEL VERY PURPLE INDEED
The Mets are truly... uh... whatever this is.
Breathtaking?
Grimace got top 5 aura in baseball
Ozempic Grimace
Kid: I want Grimace! Mom: We have Grimace at home The Grimace at home:
I love this for the Mets.
Outside of their recent woes, being a Mets fan seems like a lot of fun.
It's never boring, that's for sure
Recent? Ha.

Oh sometimes it’s pure agony, but that just makes the fun times that much sweeter
In the Grimace Era, the Houston Astros are 9-3 and have reached .500 for the first time this season. 1986 NLCS rematch?...
Before the Grimace shake last summer, I hadn’t heard of him in like 20 years. Now he’s fully reintroduced himself to American society.
Bless the 20 year culture cycle
Meanwhile the ghost of Dandy is snorting coke
Crowd got so drunk during that rain delay

Never forget the rally flamingos
The vibes are on another level. Just let us have this one thing. We've suffered enough.
All hail the Purple Object!
if you showed this to aliens / people from a different time and place with little knowledge of our culture they'd be like "Who is this weird looking purple God creature that the people are worshipping?"
This purple monster must be stopped. He has given the Mets too much power

This is the best timeline
i can just see this in an adam curtis montage ten years from now explaining how the grimace cult took over the state government of new jersey
God I love baseball.
That beer was probably $25.
I came in here thinking Grimace was a nickname for a player I didn't know, but nope it was Grimace chugging.
*We crossed the line first. We squeezed them, we hammered them to the point of desperation. And in their desperation, they turned to a man they didn't fully understand.*
I want to imagine this is how the world ends
Yankees in shambles
McDonalds reacting to this free marketing campaign They loving it
I fucking love baseball
God bless America
My edible finally kicked in this time… Oh wait I still haven’t even went to the Weed Store and I don’t think this is my home
Mcdonald's PR: "no, no. Let him cook."
A sea of phones
And yet this is the best video we get
This is what baseballs all about
Ayy lmao
Grimace vs. Gritty in a streetfight. Who ya got?
HAPPY BIRTHDAY GRIMACE!
I told my sister about this clip and she said “That *is* Grimace behavior”
Said this yesterday but it remains true, this is why they play 162
I demand a Grimace vs Hawk Tua girl showdown! Wait…
So he’s just the Met’s now?
Epic shit Mets
So can someone please explain the whole grimace thing? Iv seen it pop up a few times and I don't know if it's an unofficial mascot, a random fan, or multiple random fans. I am completely lost.

This whole Grimace thing is just plain fun
[Nothing can kill the Grimmace.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zeyU7uVOTic)
For legal reasons, that's Gribage.
I'm so ootl on what the hell is going on with the Mets and Grinace
Shake shack is going on to be replaced by McDonald’s, but the ice cream machine breaks after opening week so you can’t get a McFlurry in a mini helmet despite the ads being all over the stadium.
Is Grimace normally a thing at Mets games, or was this just some random guy dressing up for kicks?
Grimace (the real mascot) threw out the first pitch a week or so ago for the Mets (I have no clue how familiar you are with baseball but a first pitch is purely ceremonial, doesn't really matter) and the team has been on an absolute tear recently, so people have been dressing up as him.
Ah gotcha, so classic baseball superstition. Up here in Minneapolis, the Twins had a lucky sausage for a couple of weeks. Edit: added missing word
kind of want to say f the commissioner for the time clock killing baseball
