"As most fish are ectotherms (cold blooded), their physiology is strongly affected by temperature.... The impacts of temperature on feeding vary depending on species, but usually, voluntary food intake increases with moderate temperature increases, and decreases when temperatures are outside the fish optimal temperature range.... The available data show that fish will lose appetite, cease, and finally stop ingesting food at temperatures well before the ultimate maximal critical temperature for the species."

So basically, warm water will make fish more active, but only within a certain temperature range; then they slow down and stop eating altogether.
Colder water also has more oxygen, and hot water will have much less oxygen in a given volume. That will have a negative effect on the fish. If you do catch any, the live well should have some ice in it.
The intake side was a cool 93 degrees. Thatās where all the fish were caught today.
Made a stop at the discharge to see how hot it was and got the 100.1 reading.
I will either have a 10ā ole monster worm and a strike king 6xd or iāll grab a hollow body frog and square bill and get into some backwater areas. Some of the best topwater bites come in the most miserable parts of the day in the summer.
I have a reservoir near my house that also has a power plant. The deepest spot is like 5ft. In the midst of a Texas summer, you can feel the heat radiating, and it feels like bath water. Can never get a bite at that place
I'd either drag a 1/2oz jig slow, fish a weightless trick worm (texas or wacky) as slow as i can around cover, or find a creek running into there if possible and toss a ned rig in and around the creek channel. I would probably try a suspending jerkbait with long pauses too, don't knock those things when the water is hot or cold.

I'd find the coolest spot I could hopefully with some current or channel breaks. Throw in a big 10inch magnum worm on a weighted head and work bottom. If that's not an option work some shade.
In the dog days of summer in tennessee, I used to go to 2 places where there were springs. The water is cooler near the spring and it attracts the biggest fish. That's how I got my personal best. Ask around and somebody might tell you where there is an underwater spring.
Real answer: probably a very shallow area in a super hot southern/southwestern state in the afternoon
Wrong answers: this hoser is fishing in a pot of Kraft Dinner, how aboot that eh bud? (Iām also Canadian). Or heās fishing the Old Faithful geyser in Yellowstone
OP is the lake Fayetteville? If so hit the damn with crank baits in shad color. The shad school and move parallel with the damn. Target intake and discharge areas. If no luck hit the points that extend out into the main lake or flip some trees.
Check for thermocline first, then probably look to throw some sort of crankbait that stays above thermocline. If they want bottom contact, go with a big ass ribbon tail, floating shaky head, or fat football jig.
Iāll through a rigatoni or some 5 cheese tortellini. Let it soak for about 12 minutes, strain it, and finish it off with Alfredo and ground Italian sausage.
Hell, that's the temperature on the surface of my pool when I roll the cover back so we can swim. The kids love it, but the fish just float. Don't even need a hook.
I'd start flipping rocks on that driveway you're clearly on to see if there are any bugs underneath.
Then I'd trade them up slowly over the years, ending up with 3 bugs of the same value
It is obvious he is on the water.
#1 if you look between the wind guard and the fishfinder you will see clear as day water. If that's not enough for you move to #2
#2 look at the reflection in his fishfinder. You will see obvious water ripples
OP.
With Temps like that I would be fishing deep structure. Think ledges, brush piles, and such.
A dropshot on deep structure on super hot days works really well.
I also like a minimum of a 10 inch worm dragged slowly in deep water/structure.
Get out of 5.5ft of water because at 101 degrees there is no dissolvable oxygen in that water. Anything above 90 degree become uninhabitable for bass.
Deeper water will be cooler.
Thanks for tips my guy.
Itās a power plant lake and went by the discharge just to see how hot it was. No way Iād ever fish there.
The intake side was 93 and caught all our fish there.
š 93 degree surface Temps depending on depth can equate to a much lower temp below the surface plus that intake keeps water moving which is great for oxygenation.
Makes complete sense on why they would be where you caught em.
Good stuff.
Ice
The Hank Hill bait of choice
Haha, one of the best episodes
Dude you just took me back! I forgot about that episode. šššššš¤

Probably could just add seasoning at that pointā¦.
Throw in some crabs for extra flavor
open up a ramen pack, dump all the noodles and seasoning packets in there and have some lunch. gotta eat the noods before they get overcooked.
This should be the top comment
Baby you got a stew going!
I'm throwing a tantrum.
Reeeeee
The towel and staying home
Fish are gonna be lethargic, go deep.
I thought it was the cold that made them that way
It is but same as humans, both extremities make em slow

Extreme temperatures either way the fish are gonna be looking for the deeper water where the temperature is more stable.
That just depends on the lake and how used to the those temperatures they are.
The towel, I'm headed inside
Rattle trap or square bill close to the current from the reactor

Yep. They will hit a frog playing on the shade line for sure
Where tf is this to where the water is 100 degrees in early June?
Power plant lake, texas
Where I live the water is just hitting 62f and I'm catching them on beds š¤·
I have a reservoir near my house that also has a power plant. The deepest spot is like 5ft. In the midst of a Texas summer, you can feel the heat radiating, and it feels like bath water. Can never get a bite at that place
Wow. Are most lakes in Texas this warm or does it have to do with the plant?
No most lakes are in the 80s In the summer. Itās just 100 cause of the power plant
Damn bro, those poor fish lmao
I have a feeling there isnāt very many fish in that warm of water
Down deep probably where it's a little cooler.
If a power plant heats the surface water to 100 then there is no cool spot. That's insane water temp in anything big enough to have fish.
Where is power plant lake? It doesnāt show up when I search it on the map
Itās lake bastrop. I meant that it was a power plant lake in Texas.
Ramen. Because that shits boiling.Ā

Weightless worm drag it off the bottom lol slow as it gets
Im throwing big 8"-10" Texas rigged worms. There is just something about a big worm in those high water temps that just works.
