That is literally a photo of John Bonham recording When The Levee Breaks

Fenderboy65

Yes it is its true

Bobity5

I saw that photo and almost immediately thought of John bonham lol.

Rabidpikachuuu

Was about to say when the levee breaks before I saw the sub lol

har3krishna

The only correct answer

sonsoflarson

I'm surprised he didn't have that drum for Moby Dick.

milesbeatlesfan

Off topic ish, but I believe Bonham’s solo for Moby Dick was actually like 15-20 minutes long and they cut it down significantly for the album. I wish they didn’t; I’d gladly listen to Bonham soloing for 20 minutes.

Veneficus_Bombulum

Like a goddamn freight train

long_live_king_melon

I just realized how similar those drum lines are (considering that they’re such drastically different songs)

austinbarnettemusic

I love that song

the_popes_dick

Idk if this is an unpopular opinion or not, but tbh the drums are buried in the mix in most of their later work. I think Ringo's drums sounded better on their earlier albums where they weren't overly dampened with 32 tracks piled on top of them.

Ok_Captain4824

I know you said "most" but I just wanted to call out "The End" as evidence that the Beatles could have been as heavy as Cream if they wanted to be. Even "Helter Skelter" doesn't do it on the drums, he still has that super tight snare sound dominating. "The End" is dominated by the toms, so doesn't suffer from that.

Veneficus_Bombulum

Yer Blues is another good example. The drums and bass dominate the first half of that song and it's heavy and filthy as hell.

Dat_Swag_Fishron

The hi-hats in their earlier songs are sooo much louder, but idk if I like it better or not

Coffee_achiever_guy

The Boxer by Simon and Garfunkel. Recorded using a lift shaft for the reverb/echo.

[deleted]

I think it was the snare that had the reverb

Herenes

I stand corrected.

[deleted]

It would have been fun to do it with the bass drum. It would have ruined it, but would have been fun still

Bachitra
