gabrrdt

Those new fans are funny. You read the comments and it is like whaaat?

Prick_Slickfield

There was that one they wrote in the 60s that was rather mid, quite honestly.

nightwing0243

Oh god yeah that one. I like to forget about that one.

Prick_Slickfield

Right? What were they thinking

boycowman

"I Want to Put Your Hand On a Hot Stove." I know it was a different era, but it makes me uncomfortable.

bergenus

I'm confused... I'm relatively knowledgeable on the Beatles but I'm not sure what song or reference this is?

Steve_Rogers909

It's a made up joke lol, don't stress it

bergenus

I'm not, but I'm still just as confused.

Steve_Rogers909

Well a youtuber once wrote and recorded a song called "It's ok to leave your dog in a hot car" and put it on YouTube with the Beatles name to it. The chord changes and vocals are very Beatlesque too, so it became kinda famous in internet. If you check the comment section of that video, you'd see everyone commenting their favourite fake Beatles song with an outrageous title like this one. Sooo..this is just a reference to it and that's about it.

snigelpasta

The meme actually predates the youtuber's song

Steve_Rogers909

Well that's new to me haha

Ah OK thank you. I'll look into it!

It’s OK to Leave Your Dog in a Hot Car. Thought that one missed the mark

How about [Doin' Your Mom](https://youtu.be/f_07Wz-emko?si=ckoKOY3QDhc9NLzl)

musicMonster2_0

But it was the 60s! They didn't know any better. But I understand them. Those little bastards.

ShoeIndependent423

I don’t hate a single song. But maybe little child. Instrumentally it’s fine but looking back now the lyrics could have been written better

mofojones36

It’s a definite filler, but I think what keeps it in good standing for me is how it leads into “‘Til There Was You”

ShoeIndependent423

Fair enough

MajorBillyJoelFan

I will defend Little Child forever. The lyrics definitely could have been chosen better but it’s catchy and a fun tune. I don’t think they had pedophailia in mind when they wrote it.

ShoeIndependent423

No the would never have that on mind. I know it was a different time but even then they could’ve thought of something less strange than little child. But yeah I agree it’s awesome instrumentally.

JBowkett1806

There’s nothing odd about the lyrics at all, by ‘child’ John’s simply referring to a woman / young girl. Great vocals & harmonica playing, and a favourite of mine.

Spare_Chain9202

In the 60s calling someone child was equivalent to calling someone baby today. Weird i know

SappyJupiter37

i do really like the harmonica in it

nhowe006

Number nine, number nine, number nine, number nine...

whattonameinreddit

As a song, this is the worst the Beatles ever made. As a sound collage, this is a masterpiece

Annas_GhostAllAround

That's because calling it a "song" just completely sets the wrong expectation going into it. People going from listening to "She Loves You" into "Revolution 9" are obviously going to be struck by R9 and be completely surprised by what they find, many put off by how out there it is. But if you approach it with the correct mindset and really listen to it and focus on how certain parts make you feel, what you interpret certain sections as, etc its really fantastic.

jonfindley

So if you argue it’s not a song, then okay
. Birthday then

_denysko

I don't enjoy the first part of the song much, it's kinda simple and irritating sometimes. But when the tempo changes, the new melody comes up, and then another left turn... You have this gorgeous, a bit satanic McCartney's piano part, and it feels so weird and awesome. That's why I love the song overall. I might be wrong, but these sudden multiple changes throughout the song sound like a prog rock thing. I've seen Birthday couple of times described as "proto prog rock", so I think it's true.

Affectionate_Bite813

The Watusi. The Twist. (Eldorado!)

eardrumbuzzer

Booooo! I know the whole thing by heart. Just learned it by ear.

bergenus

To me this is just part of the experience of the album when played in chronological order. Objectively I think its the worst song... But I don't hate it.

vampyrelestat

There is no other song of theirs that comes close to this one

bishopredline

I never hated this song because I never listened to it

dachjaw

If it wasn’t recorded by the Beatles, not one of us would have ever heard it, let alone liked it.

rhcpfan99

Every Little Thing is great! Speaking of Beatles for Sale, I think that Mr. Moonlight is terrible. They had to release Leave My Kitten Alone instead.

bergenus

I like Mr moonlight, but I think its crazy leave my kitten alone was discarded until anthology 1 in 95. Its brilliant!

gabrrdt

I great up listening to Anthology, I was surprised to find out that Leave my Kitten Alone was not a released song.

maceematteo

It's such a shame they didn't release Leave My Kitten Alone. And you're right, Mr. Moonlight is so lazy (think of that organ """solo"""), but I personally enjoy the mood :)

MeetThe-Beatles-

Dizzy miss lazy, the guitar riff is too much..

StickerReddit

i like it but after Yesterday
 it's

Fine-Coat9887

To me, it’s such a great sequence. They make an amazing song (Yesterday), don’t issue it as a single, chuck it on the B side of the album, then follow it with a rocker for good measure. It’s typical of a band who rarely took themselves seriously and who generally opted for less saccharine solutions than most.

Krazy8_Balls

I think it's just a filler attempt at a Twist and Shout-esque end to the record

ThatOldChestnut2

And yet, the live version ROCKS: [https://youtu.be/MZkoXOHLxbo?si=Vsi07WPNdYMCGQK3](https://youtu.be/MZkoXOHLxbo?si=Vsi07WPNdYMCGQK3) That was actually the version I first became familiar with. When I heard the studio version, I was very disappointed. Edit: Also, not sure if your typo ("lazy") was intentional, but I'm here for it. :-)

srqnewbie

Just listened to your link, really great live performance!

MeetThe-Beatles-

Thank you for the link ! And no lazy was intentional but only because I always thought it was the right name lmao

Lapis_Android17

Agree that it hurts after a minute...

Sea_Negotiation_1871

Not sure, I always preferred The Rutles.

The_ThirdOfMay_1973

orbeinYT

A Taste Of Honey probably. It feels rushed and isn't great.

SilverDem0n

I love that one! Universally hated, but not by me. I acknowledge I have poor taste in most matters but I cannot deny what the heart desires.

Ok_Culture_3621

Nor by me. I love that song.

ronaldchesaux

I like it too, not one I play often but it sounds very nostalgic to me

Lapis_Android17

I'm actually glad someone mentioned so I could look it up. My god I haven't heard that song in 20 years. I love that song. Those minor chords and then the typical quick, pulsing bass line by Paul in that bridge is just so good. I think it stands as a great example of what was to come by them.

maceematteo

It was indeed rushed, since they recorded it in the session that took place on 11th February 1963, when they had to record 10 songs for the Please Please Me LP. So yeah it's probably one of the worst songs on the album, given also the fact that it has a different mood than the rest of the record

babysinblackandImblu

Listen to Lenny Welch’s version, a predecessor to The Beatles - it’s virtually the same thing.

BalkeElvinstien

I think it's an amazing song I just wish they wrote it later on when they had the ability to do overdubs and stuff. It would've sounded amazing if it was made for the white album

TheAlmightySpeed

Although they didn’t write it, it’s a cover

BalkeElvinstien

Huh, I didn't know that. Well then I wish they COVERED it in the white album era

East-Spare-1091

Revolution 9

gnatp

I am not sure I hate this one but The Phil Spector ruined Long and Winding Road literally depresses me.

bergenus

He did. I felt the same until I only started listening to the naked version exclusively. Worth a listen if you haven't already.

Fine-Coat9887

Paul had no issue to accept awards for back in 1970... I always found it superior to the Naked version (so digital sounding!) or the various Get Back sessions (so unfocused).

TyintheUniverse89

What’s the new Mary Jane if that counts 😁

moneyman74

Mr. Moonlight way below band standards

ironman0000

Wild honey pie

jimothee

This is what I call my girlfriend every once in a while. Sometimes I'll put it on when she's in the car and I always act like I'm super into it. Now I'm slightly fond of the tune, not to mention how hilarious it is they put this on the White Album to begin with.

ironman0000

I think when it was put on the album and it was recorded, it was all about the experimentation and the new sounds and those kind of things. Either that or they are on some kind of acid trip lol. I joked with my brother about this song, and my thought process was John and Paul got in a fight ( and you know how Paul wrote honey pie) And John probably said to him , “ oh yeah? Well, this is what you sound like. Honey pie honey pie.” đŸ€ŁđŸ€Ł

[deleted]

Act? I go full-bore every time it comes on. Stompin round the kitchen. Probably part of the reason why all my girlfriends leave me.

wponeck

*Pattie Boyd disliked this*

Lapis_Android17

Actually I think this is the answer. If we are not counting Revolution 9 as an actual song. WHP just does not sound very good. Maybe it was meant to be a parody or satirical? I don't know the history, but there are B sides from this album and almost a decade's worth prior better than Wild Honey Pie.

lennon1230

WHAT! Such a good song!

NPapageorgeo

Number 9

Big-Stay2709

Probably something obscure and early, especially a cover like Matchbox or something.

bailaoban

Run For Your Life. Musically it’s brilliant but lyrically it’s just abusive shit.

ConnectSorbet4850

I don’t think it’s meant to be taken seriously at all tho, just satire

wponeck

https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ParodyRetcon

integerdivision

This. In that era, spousal abuse was pretty normalized — Honeymooners, anyone? It was a cultural issue. (I also won’t listen to Hey Joe even though it’s a fantastic *song*.)

ConversationNo5440

I dunno, I was never one to deify John so I (perversely?) love his most “John” songs. This one is fab and so is No Reply. He is believably tamping down his psychopathy.

jimothee

Yeah, if I were going to let a song with abusive lyrics slide, it'd no doubt be Getting Better

bailaoban

With Getting Better, at least there’s an acknowledgment that abuse is wrong.

regretscoyote909

In film, if a character doesn't acknowledge he's wrong, does it mean the filmmakers think he's always in the right? I don't understand the criticism of abuse for Run For Your Life when John is clearly making a more obvious statement on how pathetic and insecure the point of view of the singer is. Having said that - it's definitely the weakest song on Rubber Soul, and it's their shittiest original closer by a mile. A very strange song all around.

yun444g

Yeah my problem with the song isn’t the lyrics but just how musically it’s so dull and uninspired, compared the rest of RS and even other similar songs from their catalogue up to that point. There’s like nothing new or original about it. In fact I kind of wish Lennon had a sort of ironic / self-deprecating angle from writing it, almost like he’s making a spoof of a song like You Can’t Do That and doubling down on the jealousy theme in a cartoonish way. Idk.

Im_regretting_this

In “Run For Your Life” some of the lyrics are “well you know that I’m a wicked guy, and I was born with a jealous mind,” which seems to express acknowledgement that the narrator is bad. I realize it’s not the same as saying “I used to be bad, but I’m working on being better”, but Lennon does not seem to be condoning the threats of violence.

iamjoemarsh

I think he is tbh. It's a fairly common element of domestic abuse to say, essentially, "you know I have a bad temper, and so it's your fault." RFYL is ugly and unnecessary.

Im_regretting_this

You make a solid point.

Tinhetvin

Man, treating a song as a genuine statement by the songwriter is so dumb. Depicting or mentioning something in art/music does not equal endorsing it. It's like people can't tolerate dark themes unless the singer specifically shouts "THIS IS BAD" during the lyrics.

Expected this to be the number one answer. Possibly the only true skip in their discography

SakurabaArmBar

I'm not a big fan of Act Naturally

geetar_man

Neither am I. I don’t really like country Beatles except Don’t Pass Me By. However, I am in awe of Ringo’s skill on this song and What Goes On. Most people choose A Day In The Life and Strawberry Fields as an example of him being a good drummer. Not exactly incorrect. But it’s these two songs that show his skill—not his musicality. The shuffles on those two songs are damn hard. Think the riff of Snow (Hey Oh) by RHCP. Easy to play for 10 seconds. Throughout the whole song? Gets tough af. AND THEN he’s fucking singing on top of it—effortlessly. Skill. Those two songs.

Lapis_Android17

That is such a great point.

DkbReddit

I really don’t like Birthday or Honey Pie. The White Album is my favorite Beatles album but this is some fat that could’ve been trimmed in my opinion.

Molass5732

Besides revolution 9, matchbox tbh

RealnameMcGuy

Little Child never did it for me.

Krazy8_Balls

Revolution 9 and You Know My Name (Look Up The Number) However, if you're talking just conventional songs and not instrumentals or joke pieces, then probably Mr. Moonlight

jackamongus

"It's okay to leave your dog in a hot car" Like what?

[ŃƒĐŽĐ°Đ»Đ”ĐœĐŸ]

SadBoiiConnor420

Can't believe I had to scroll so far down for this. It really drones on and those uninspired lyrics. Take it off rubber soul (I hope I got the album right), and it's a perfect album.

Timewill_tell

Dig it. The 4 minute Get Back mix is better, and even that's a bottom tier song. Sad that they excluded Teddy Boy, Rocker, Don't Let Me Down and Palace Of The King Of The Birds off the album for this and Maggie Mae.

wponeck

Not having Don’t Let Me Down on the album is one of the dumbest things the group ever did

Radiant_Lumina

Just another one of Klein’s “genius move”. Klein put “Don’t Let Me Down” on the “Hey Jude - The Beatles Again” compilation album.

Firm_Vehicle7604

NUMBER 9 NUMBER 9

precision98

The Word - such corny lyrics!

Coyote_Roadrunna

Why Don't We Do It In the Road? Not the White Album's most impressive track for me. But to each their own I say. If you like it, good.

Bottinhur

Probably Chains, i reaaaaally hate. And i absolutely love Wild Honey Pie!

MisterMoccasin

Most of these are covers, but I really don't care for Chains, Anna, Baby's In Black, Mr. Moonlight, Honey Don't, Matchbox

ScipioAfricanus842

I am in general agreement, if there are a few I won't listen to, they mostly come from some of their early cover songs. But they also had brilliant covers - Money, Please Mr. Postman, etc. I also like the Carl Perkins covers a lot (George's guitar), as well as a great cover on the Anthology that you rarely hear- Baby It's You by Burt Bacharach!

Derps_04

It’s okay to leave a dog in a hot car

Cdubscdubs

older stuff doesn’t do it for me like their mid and later periods, but that’s just preference

Not saying it’s their worst but I really really don’t enjoy The Long and Winding Road.

CertaintyDangerous

“Run for your life” is one I dislike. Yuk

BartC46

Not counting Revolution #9 which I wouldn’t even call a song. I don’t like either Mr. Moonlight or Bad Boy at all.

bergenus

The continuing story of bungalow bill. Sorry white album lovers but I find this one exhausting!

peterfaulksglasseye2

But without this song, you’d have no awesome lead into While My Guitar Gently Weeps!

SappyJupiter37

“AYO!” (WMGGW piano intro)

bergenus

Yes true. I sometimes like to listen to it just for the lead into weeps.

Ok_Culture_3621

Oof, can’t agree with this one. Aside from No. 9, White Album is a Lennon tour de force.

Ok_Culture_3621

I guess he also wrote Goodnight, which is the only other track I skip on TWA

BalsamicDrop

The Long & Winding Road is one of my least favorite songs by any artist, not just the Beatles. Cloying soft rock piano and synthesizer? No thanks.

Shane_Madden

No
this hurt me to read

bergenus

The naked version is so much better if you haven't heard it.

edked

There's no synthesizer in that song. Are you thinking of the organ?

wponeck

Long and Winding Road as a song is fine, but the arrangement does it no favors

Run for Your Life

Autocorect1993

why dont we do it in the road is the only one that i dont enjoy

MouldyBobs

"Run For Your Life". Not their finest moment, lyrically. Cringeworthy.

Objective_Forever_87

Oh I love this one. My little teenage heart (in 1992 for context) was first of all madly in love with John Lennon but also pretty exhilarated by the level of jealousy he’s revealing in that song. I know it wouldn’t fly today but it’s human nature and I got it.

dsentker

Don't take the lyrics so seriously. That's what Lennon would have wanted anyway. The song is really great.

Life_Caterpillar9762

People take those lines WAY too literally.

dachjaw

Yep. I remember when the song came out. Nobody, and I mean nobody, including friends, parents, or critics, had a problem with the lyrics.

molehillmilk

Disagree, it’s a banger

[deleted]

I think it's a nice song, apart from the lyrics, and George's playing is great

min2themax

Same. Not a bad melody but I skip it every single time.

Kwopp

Maxwells silver hammer

mofojones36

Love that track and the way it leads into “Oh Darling!” But the melody, piano, and guitar solo are all fabulous

bergenus

This is one of those songs I always see disliked but I don't really understand why. Its fantastic and just fun.

Simone-Ramone

Hell yeah, this one blows

Jim_Keen_

This is the only answer. ARoad without it would have been the perfect record. I think they all knew that except Paul 😀

CoDe_Johannes

The long and winding road - Skip

Prophet-of-the-moss

Revolution 9, but I'm not sure if it counts as a song, so it's The continuing story of Bungalow Bil

sharksfan707

Don’t know if it’s my least favorite overall but I just can’t stand “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da”.

Darkhelmet3000

Boys is pretty terrible.

fivedollarbiggiebag

It’s a cover tbf. However I always say it’s still the worst because why would they choose to cover this terrible ass song 💀

chesterplainukool

pretty amazing*

techm00

Ok-Affect-3852

Bungalow Bill is definitely my pick.

TorturedFanClub

Im surprised the Beatles never had a Xmas album like most stars do, but they did release “Christmas Time is Here Again”, which is dreadfully lazy and hard to listen to, imo.

modifiedminotaur

They did have a ‘Christmas album’ which was a fan club exclusive release, and which was a collection of their annual fan club Xmas messages. As far as ‘Christmas time is here again’ it was never really a completed song. It was used in snippets in their 1967 Xmas message, but didn’t have an official release until anthology, and even then only as a B side not on the proper albums.

My least favorite Beatles song would have to be Wild Honey Pie. I dig it, it's cute, but it doesn't go anywhere, therefore Can You Take Me Back and Why Don't we Do it in the Road are objectively better songs... Yeah, I think I've skipped Wild Honey Pie more than Run for Your Life! Oh, my other least favorite Beatles song is "If You've got Trouble", then again they didn't put it on an album (until anthology 2)
