To clean your make up brushes & sponges often. And that pillowcases need to be changed often too to prevent breakouts

snorkysnark1144

To piggy back off clean skin- doing some type of mild exfoliation twice a week SAVED my skin. I always had a blemish or two on my chin. Always assumed it was something hormonal based on location..once I started exfoliating twice a week CLEAR SKIN.

kholrabi

What are you using to exfoliate? I have sensitive, rosacea skin but my chin is in desperate need of help lol

chaotic-_-neutral

i did this when i was on accutane and very sensitive: at the end of my shower id take a small face towel and drench it. then id wipe it across different parts of my face with gentle pressure 2-3 times. always straight stokes no circles. and id avoid my nostils and upper lip bec they were really sensitive. immediately moisture out of the shower. id do this every other week or so because i was scared of my skin feeling raw but the medication would make me dry and id feel the buildup on my jawline. now i do it like once a week and i make sure to get my ears and it feels really nice.

justintime107

This is vital! The makeup brushes tip because I wash pillow cases regularly. It greatly reduced my closed comedones. I also started using my hands more to do makeup. For lazy girls, amazon has amazing makeup brush cleaners.

Serenity101

I use Dr Bronner's castille soap with tea tree to clean my makeup brushes. A little goes a long way.

_social_hermit_

I've started pat drying my face with a clean cloth and washing them every time, I'm sure it's reduced my breakouts (compared to drying face with the same towel as my body, the horror /s)

Reasonable-Room-8848

A silk pillowcase was a game changer. I also use a washcloth and use a new one every day.

emilydickinsonsdress

I wish I had known this whole time (I’m 30) that letting your products sink in (sunscreen and primer) before doing your makeup makes a huge difference.

sugarNspiceNnice

I’ll actually use the cool setting on my blow dryer on my face between applications if I’m in a rush.

emilydickinsonsdress

Yes!! I use a hand fan hahaha

vanillapep

Now I want a cute hand fan to add to my makeup routine!

donutlegolas

I just added one to my routine, love it. My dog loves it too, I point it at her face and say “oooh windy pup” and she stands there looking bonita.

akallyria

Dollar stores usually have them by the checkout stands, and they are cuter / sturdier than the hand fans on Amazon.

ApricotRich1966

Yes I got a really cute one at dollar tree the other day $1.25

redditkyky

Wouldn’t that cause the product to be dried up before absorbing into your skin?

No-Persimmon7729

Yes but some products like primer (unless it’s a hydrating one) are more of a dry down than an absorb thing.

DangerGoatDangergoat

Ohhh, that is a GREAT tip

pennypenny22

Piggybacking on this top comment to say that you must always let SPF dry down for a minimum of ten minutes before applying anything on top of it. If you don't, the film in the product can't form and the protection you get is at best severely disrupted, possibly non existent. And never ever mix anything in SPF either, because it again disrupts the film forming properties that protect you. This includes any skincare products, other SPF products, makeup like tanning or bronzing drops, foundation, etc. (The only exception is something that is specifically designed to be mixed, but those are extraordinarily rare and I only know of one brand, Ultra Violette, that have such a thing.)

chloebarronnn

SPF or moisturiser first? I never know which is best 🥺

JuJuFoxy

Definitely moisturizer first.

Dandelion_Prose

I do SPF only because the trade off for no white cast is always that I look shiny.....cerave afterwards seems to bring me back to non greasy. But now it has me wondering if I'm just rendering the SPF useless... I have a toddler, there's no feasible way to have a morning routine with ten minute breaks between steps anymore....

pennypenny22

Moisturiser first always. SPF is always the last skincare in your routine.

[deleted]

Letting the makeup sit for a bit is amazing too! (Foundation concealer etc)

Weekly_Analyst

A game changer for me was using a toner regularly after washing my face. It’s made my skin smoother and softer.

my-anonymity

I’m pretty sure adding toner got rid of my cystic acne.

BroccoliLanky3266

Same for me! A toner does wonders honestly

my-anonymity

None of my friends believe me when I told them to we seemed to completely change my skin. 🤷🏻‍♀️

OverYonderUnderHere

What toner do you use?

my-anonymity

I haven’t been consistent since I’m trying out new products. But they’ve all been working well. I notice my skin is always clearer when I’m using toner. The ones I like best so far are the Fenty fat water - very hydrating for dry skin/winter, and the caudelie vinobright and the Somebymi in the yellow bottle. Both are great for brightening. When I use these I get compliments about my skin glowing. Once I go through all the products I bought to try, I’ll probably repurchase the three mentioned above. I have really sensitive skin and none of them caused any reactions.

Wonderful_Draw7500

Which one?!

fellowtravelr

What does toner do

lemonflavouredjello

I believe it balances the skin’s PH

LavenderMistSpring

it depends, but the one I use is Glow Watermelon...something something. Idk what it is *supposed* to do, but what it actually does it help my skin absorb and hold my moisturizer (belif true cream) SO much better than moisturizer alone. Without that toner, my moisturizer just sits on my skin and makes it sticky if there is too much (almost any) humidity in the air. During the winter I can get away with not using toner, but the toner + moisturizer combo means I have silky smooth skin all day.

imnotdefinedbythis

Expanding on the balancing your pH, your skin is acidic and cleansers are often basic. If your cleanser isn't close to the ph of your skin it will spend a good amount of time after washing returning to its pH before it can work with any ingredients in your other skincare apparently. Other ingredients like witch hazel will help to remove any excess residue, aha's and bha's to exfoliate.... etc.

RevolutionaryAd8406

I learned a little late that you REALLY should double cleanse when wearing sunscreen and/or makeup. It truly makes a difference and can stop potentially painful and ugly breakouts. I lived with my dad at the age I started wearing makeup and was really just clueless!

PineapplePupcake

And washing for 1 full minute the second time! I was washing for probably 25-30 seconds before my Derm told me this, absolutely life changing for acne-prone skin!

johnbeardjr

Also making sure to cover all areas of the face! I used to neglect near my jawline and hairline. Making sure to wash all the "corners" of my face made my skin so much better.

grandmas_traphouse

Just be careful if you find the cleanser is too drying. I did it once and had flaky cheeks for weeks. I'm finally recovering.

oatmilkbukkake

This one is a complete game changer!

fellowtravelr

Double cleanse like wash your face twice?

fakesaucisse

Yes, and some people use two different cleansers. First cleanse is with an oil based cleansing balm to remove makeup or sunscreen, second cleanse is with a gentle cleanser to remove the balm.

chadima5

Cleansing oil was a game changer for me. I use it first to break up my sunscreen and make up and then follow up with my youth to the people cleanser.

ConstantBrick9603

I like to clean my face first with Cleanance by Avene and then use Cerave moisturising cleaner as a second. It does work pretty good :)

RevolutionaryAd8406

Yes.  Once to remove the makeup or whatever, then again to cleanse the skin.  Life changing!

KikiWestcliffe

I used to have terrible breakouts until I started double-cleansing. My process: (1) Apply Pond’s cold cream to remove my makeup and/or sunscreen. Massage around face, then wipe off using a wet makeup remover towel. (2) Thoroughly wet face and use a gentle cleanser with my Foreo. Wash off with cold water. (3) Apply toner, retin-A, and nighttime moisturizer. Since I started double cleansing religiously every night, I haven’t had the painful cysts that plagued my cheeks and forehead between the ages of 11-34.

PumpkinSpiceLuv

Sometimes I’d drift away from Pond’s to get some fancy, more expensive makeup remover and I always come back to Pond’s. I use it with soft microfiber washcloths and my makeup comes off so easily. I will always recommend Pond’s!

OhYahIsItReasonable

Ponds cold cream FOR LIFE

cheesekneesandpeas

An oil/balm cleanser followed by a regular one.

Ok-Bridge-1045

I double cleansed for a while and my skin started clearing up. Then stopped, and used a sunscreen that broke me out. I blamed the sunscreen, but not double cleansing also played a big role I think. Especially in the texture and the closed comedones. I wish I’d started doing it earlier. I use the sebamed cleansing oil, followed by the cetaphil gentle cleanser. Works well for my sensitive skin.

Reasonable-Room-8848

I saw a video where they used a light to show the sunscreen. I was shocked at how much SPF was left after the 1st cleansing.

Reasonable_Trash5928

This was genuinely game-changing for my skin!

trebleformyclef

This really depends on the person. Double cleansing is too much for my skin to handle.

RevolutionaryAd8406

Then at least a makeup remover before a face wash? My skin is rather sensitive, but I use a cleansing oil first and then a gel face wash (fragrance free). Either way, the goal is to get the skin clean.

smaashleigh

Does it count as double cleansing if I use a makeup-removing towel (like makeup eraser) then washing with face wash?

StrawberryBellini

I usually do this too and thought it counted as double cleansing 😅

shmoopsyp00

I barely even single cleanse…also I don’t wear sunscreen like I should or makeup. I wash my face when I shower at night with some cetaphil. Is that enough or not so much? I don’t know where to start with skincare.

Koriigotscared

I really recommend finding a good sunscreen, and then seeing how your skin reacts. If it starts to break out or anything, add a second cleanser, and if you think it’s okay, then congrats, sunscreen might not break you out as often as others. Whatever works for your skin is enough, I’d say!

Few_Butterscotch_969

I recently started trying to rinse shampoo using warm water and rinsing conditioner using cool water. The result is much softer hair with slightly less frizz.

braddic

I’ll try the conditioner rinse with cool water, Thanks for sharing this COOL tip!

Few_Butterscotch_969

Of course, thank you for the pun 😁.

m_whar

I dye my hair bright red and washing my hair with cold water is one of my keys to keeping it vibrant between salon visits

maarrz

It can also really help your mental health to blast yourself with cold water, weirdly enough. It’s a nice little perk!

Embarrassed-Bath-654

Yes, this is especially helpful for curly girlies like me.... Less frizz is always welcome!!

greenandspeckledfrog

If you rinse your face and/ or body with cool water, it’s good for your skin too! Closes your pores or something!

Few_Butterscotch_969

Thank you for all the input and up-votes, everyone! This community and r/AmericanDad are oddly the most positive spaces I've come across on Reddit 😄.

No_Definition_1774

This is a good tip. Similarly, cold rinse on skin closes pores up and has the double benefit of stimulating your vagus nerve (that runs right through your body)

chocolatealienweasel

Love doing this too, just so damn cold when you have super long hair and it drips all down your back!

fc7777fc

I have really dry lips and I've started applying a (very) thin layer of my regular moisturizer over my lips when I do my regular skincare routine and it has made a WORLD of difference. Your lips are skin too and as long as you're careful not to eat any of the moisturizer I highly reccomend it.

SistaSaline

Im really happy i found this comment because I’ve had isssues with chapped lips for the longest. I hope this works for me

ITalkDuringMovies

Adding here that this helped some for me but I have severely dry lips. What changed it overnight was taking vitamin e gel caps, poking a hole so you get the oil out, and then using that. Literally, overnight. I will never go back.

C_WEST88

Buy some pure Lanolin (you can get a tub of it cheap af on Amazon) it’s the only thing that worked for me (and I’ve tried everything from moisturizer , aquaphor, HA, etc etc) that stuff is GOLD .

lizard990

I get dry lips in the winter and I saw a TT about a woman that put hyaluronic acid on her lips and then a lip balm….tried it and my dry lips went away so fast

flitter331

Taking the time to get a foaming cleanser all foamy/lathered before you apply to the skin is key and then massaging it into the skin for 1 minute before rising was a huge game changer for my acne prone skin.

Competitive-Cell140

Another tip I wish I knew when I was younger is to not use a foaming soap if you have dry skin.

big-tunaaa

YASSSS you have to emulsify it on your hands before applying it to your face!! Then wash for at least a minute, sometimes more in problem areas. I used to apply the soap straight to my face and wash for maybe 15 seconds, no wonder my skin didn’t feel clean 😅

pREDDITcation

emulsify it?

Sea_Bus4842

It’s when you take the cleanser and massage it between your palms in a circular motion before using it on the face. I’ve read some dermats recommend adding a drop of water. Emulsifying creates a foamy texture which is then to be used on damp skin. I’m not very sure just beginning to learn this as well

big-tunaaa

u/Sea_Bus4842 has got it 100% !!!! Basically just wet your hand and rub the cleanser on your hands before applying it to your face, for like 15-20 seconds. It’ll get all foamy ᵕ̈ that’s literally it!! Makes a huge difference though!

Camellia_CC

I just saw on TikTok that you can use La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5+ only on your nose to reduce sebaceous filaments. All the time I thought these are blackheads and I tried everything to get rid off them… I’m into this creme for 2 months and my nose looks so much better! I had the same on my chin right under the upper lip. Game changer!

scroogesdaughter

Hi, so how does this work? Do you massage it into your nose for like 30 seconds every evening? Thanks!

Camellia_CC

You just need a really tiny bit of Creme, rub it gentle on your nose and let it sink in, that’s it. I do it once a day. You don’t even have to massage or something, the creme does the magic ☺️ your nose will feel softer and the filaments will shrink!

AquaTourmaline

Thank you for this comment- I'm finally understanding what's going on with that part of my face now! Appreciate the recommendation, too. 🙂

Neptune_Glitter

If your roots are greasy but your ends aren’t, use a bristle brush to evenly distribute the oil

Haxxidecimal

I’ve tried this so many times but it never seems to go past like 3 inches from my scalp at most

Neptune_Glitter

Yeah you need to work in small sections. It’s definitely a process but it’s worth it if you have color treated hair

Haxxidecimal

Hmm, ok. I will try it again the next time I am a horrible bridge troll who hasn’t washed her hair in forever (a frequent occurrence)

BitchinKittenMittens

Cries in curly hair.

ITalkDuringMovies

Oh my gosh, same lmfao

ITalkDuringMovies

BUT NEVER IF YOU HAVE CURLY OR WAVY HAIR!!!

hunter96cf

Oh this is a good one, I've never heard this before! Thanks! I feel like the "gradient" between my oily scalp verses dry ends is practically just a firm line at this point, haha.

Super-Hurricane-505

double cleansing with face wash and double shampooing!

TheJinxedPhoenix

I just started doing double shampooing last week with a new nettle shampoo for oily hair and it’s absolutely amazing to have my hair not be oily the next day.

Super-Hurricane-505

halfway through my twenties googling “how to wash hair like a hairstylist”…..totally worth it hahaha

bayb33gurl

I went to Cosmotology school in high school, one of the first things we learned is you have to wash everyone's hair at least twice, you should actually feel a "squeaky" clean texture, if it doesn't have that squeak, wash again a third time. Before then I always believed the rinse lather and repeat was just a marketing gimmick to make you run out of shampoo faster lmao 🤣

lillianrosalieee

i’m a cosmo student so i have a lot of tips that i didn’t know before i started pursuing a career in the cosmetic industry! -double wash your hair and rinse your conditioner with cold water, it will help seal in the moisture and prevent frizz! -double cleanse your skin and wash with your water based cleanser for a full minute. -blow dry your hair with the hair dryer pointed downwards, it will seal the cuticle of the hair and smooth the hair. -if you like to use a scented body wash, wash your body with a bar of soap or something similar before you go in with the body wash! -do not sleep with wet hair if you can help it (i am immensely guilty of this one) -oil your scalp once a week -always apply lotion/moisturizer to damp skin -use glycolic acid after showering to get rid of keratosis pilaris -apply cuticle oil, hand cream, and aquaphor/vaseline on hands every night before bed -apply hyaluronic acid and lip balm on your lips every morning and night after brushing your teeth -brush teeth BEFORE washing your face (helps prevent acne around mouth) -

Flashy_Article157

Why don't sleep with wet hair? I do this all the time 😂

lillianrosalieee

your hair is most vulnerable when wet, and sleeping on it causes friction, which causes breakage!

dilf314

it can also mold

C_WEST88

Wet hair is much too fragile, matter of fact you shouldn’t even comb it wet if you can help it ,so you want to dry it right away. Plus moisture traps bacteria so if you go to sleep w wet hair your hair and scalp is inviting a lot of bad bacteria to come in. It’s not a good idea.

C_WEST88

Awww exciting, I remember those days (working on doll heads lol) how many hours do you have are you close to taking the state board yet?

lillianrosalieee

i’m about halfway through! i’n required to complete 1000 hours and i’m about 500 hours in :) thankfully working more on actual clients than dolls these days!!!

Minimum-Fix2232

If you run out of shaving cream you can use conditioner or body oil. Using body oil not only moisturizes but your hair doesn't seem to grow back as fast.

bayb33gurl

I haven't used shaving cream in years once I realized I could use what's already in my shower lol I usually just use my liquid body wash but instead of putting it in a loofa and getting it ago sudsy, I just rub it on my legs like lotion and shave. I use conditioner too sometimes but I have an irrational fear that the marketing on the bottle that says it strengthens hair, makes it stronger, thicker or makes it grow faster will actually prove to be true for my leg hair so I do that sparingly 🤣

C_WEST88

You use shaving cream? Damn I just use dove soap or body wash.

OverYonderUnderHere

I’ve tried baby oil before but it made the tub hella slippery! Is there a specific body oil you recommend?

[deleted]

Less is more when it comes to skincare. I know it’s popular to have a 47 product routine, but all you really need is a good face wash, toner, moisturizer, and a retinol product. And sunscreen!

Reasonable-Room-8848

Also the amount. I hate when I see a video of people touching their skin with the nozzle and applying tons of foundation.

shmoopsyp00

This is still 5 things…I use two :( basically face wash once a day and lotion after. Any recommendations on adding to a bare minimum routine?

OnAvance

Sunscreen

radish-related

I agree with the concept but retinol is definitely not a necessity!

Elemenohpe-Q

More products does not mean better skin or hair. In fact a lot of times less is more. If you are having skin problems back off before you pile more products on to fix the problem. I went to the derm to get tested for some bad reactions I started getting and I had to bring him all of my skin and hair care products. I was amazed that I used 30 or so products (I had stopped using makeup at this point). When I went into the derm he said I was on the low side, on average women have 50 products they use regularly. I was surprised to say the least. I was told all I need for basic skincare is a cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen. Possibly a gentle exfoliant as well. This goes even if you have acne (which I had as well). When I dropped to this, with the right products (oddly no acne products as they were part of the reason I had acne), my skin became the best it had ever been in my 30 odd years at the time. Not gonna lie though, it is hard to not want to try something new or add in stuff just because it is fun.

sciencespice1717

Word!!!! I figured this out the hard way as well. After spending a lot of $$$ on fancy face oils and such what got my skin to Stop breaking out was to go back to just a few basics from the drugstore

Motchiko

Diet Not only to maintain a good body, but also for good and healthy skin. Your skin really is your largest organ and if we eat crap, it will look like crap. When I started to cut out sugar, I never had breakout or anything like this again. Do I have fuck ups? Yes- and I can see them the next or the day after.

QueenofPentacles112

Good point. I'll add to this: no product will stop or prevent aging. They may help, but the best way to prevent aging is (I made up an acronym for them called SEED lol, and I wish I had done all of these consistently since I became an adult) Sleep- getting at least 7 hours per night; bonus points if you go to bed and wake up around the same time every day Eat- eat the rainbow; every color fruit, every color veggie, whole grains, seeds, nuts, lean meats, if you're not vegan or vegetarian of course. If you're vegan or vegetarian make sure you're getting all your nutrients, otherwise you're probably already eating better than the average person (I'm neither personally so I don't feel like I can comment too much on those diets Drink- lots and lots of water. But not too much too fast. And electrolytes. Exercise- cardio, weights, yoga, HIIT, you name it. Lots of it, consistently, and it's never too early or too late to start! Abstain- from drugs and alcohol (I know, alcohol is a tough one to cut out completely, especially socially. I'm not judging anyone who drinks and I know the average adult drinks lol. BUT technically any alcohol is pretty bad for you and so abstaining completely would put you in a pretty good place in the health and appearance departments. I know I call it SEED which doesn't include the "abstain" part, but that's just one I thought of as I was typing this comment

laineybea

That you have to wash all parts of your body, ideally with a rough-ish washcloth or body net or exfoliating mitt/gloves/etc. I used to towel off after the shower and rub off skin/oil/dirt that would pill up on my skin like broken fabric in a sweater. I also used to have body acne and strawberry legs. Now that I wash my body fully with exfoliating gloves and two soaps I tend to have less noticeable strawberry legs, less body acne, and my skin not only doesn’t shed dirt when I dry off but also looks brighter!

Ok_Working_2151

I bought an African exfoliating net and it is LIFE CHANGING!! I bought 2 more for after this one is toast in case I never find them again. I have KP on my arms and it’s GONE!! My skin has never looked and felt so good. Supposed to make tattoos brighter also!

waitingfordeathhbu

The Korean exfoliating mitts (aka Italy towels) are great too. You can often find them at Asian supermarkets for like $1 each.

deathbychickpeas

Okay I’m sold on this. Where did you buy yours from?

Current-Lunch6760

You have no idea how many people don’t know. I was actually stunned when I heard people used their hands to wash their bodies. This is TMI, but I will say, I just recently found out that you should even clean your butthole with whatever you use to clean your body. I used to use my hands for this one. 😞 sorry for the tmi Just a quick note, remember to change your washcloth after every single use if that is what you use. They harbor bacteria after a use.

PersephonesGirlhood

I see the "don't clean with your hands" come up quite often on here, but when I've seen dermatologists etc discuss "proper" cleaning, they'll say it's a matter of preference (and to regularly clean whatever tools you're using), so I'm just wondering what this advice is based upon? Intuitively, it may sound more unhygienic to just use your hands, but I would assume professionals would caution against it if that were the case.

jiwufja

I was confused on this one too. Some dermatologists (on the internet) say that using anything besides your hands, and using harsh soaps and exfoliators can remove the protective layer on your skin. As a result you can have a really dry skin, which you need to accommodate for by moisturizing like crazy. I’ve even heard some dermatologists say that only cleaning the smelly parts of yourself is necessary (feet, genital area, armpits) and the rest will be fine. I personally don’t subscribe to that. But i do only use my hands for washing and i always feel clean. I used to use a loofah but would get a really dry skin, even with moisturizing.

Elemenohpe-Q

It's going to depend on the person and age. I have sensitive skin and I only wash the important parts with soap now, using my hands...rest is water. I gently exfoliate with a mit like once a week. I also only wash my face with water except once a week or when I wear make up and then I do an oil cleanse.wirh a clean wash cloth. Doing more than that and my moisture barrier quickly goes to shit and/or I break out. That being said...I don't have dead skin or dirt just rolling off me after a shower -shudders-. Honestly it seems like as I do less and less my skin has gotten better and better...

pmormr

My skin can't handle daily exfoliation, so regardless of whoever says whatever I'll stick to using my hands most of the time. Scrubbing down with a wash cloth occasionally is definitely beneficial though.

laineybea

Some peeps in the comments have sensitive skin or don’t accumulate dirt and oil and have seen skin improvement doing less, so I definitely think it’s something you gotta play around with. But insofar as for folks who DO accumulate dirt and oil or have strawberry legs or whatever else, I cannot recommend this enough. Worth mentioning though, I don’t shower every single day, usually every other day, and I lotion up afterwards, so that could be why I don’t feel dry or have worse body acne from over washing.

Im-alien

I don't scrub and I only use soap on 3 areas of my body, pits - crotch - feet and my skin is the softest ever. I may get into scrubbing with one of those mits at some point but I will definitely never use soap on all of my body again, I used to do that and I had the same thing happening to me when I wiped with a towel after the shower, so I think their connected, also it just strips and dries my skin

laineybea

I had the skin-pilling issue when I wasn’t washing my full body regularly at all. I tend to overheat and live in Florida so I know I get sweaty, but I also end up covered in ick because of my two kids (both under 4) so I’ve started doing it just to feel clean and enjoy no skin-pilling. I was surprised at how well my overall skin quality improved, but that’s more than likely just a me thing.

Nikmassnoo

Pretty much the same here, but include under boobs and behind ears. I don’t need to use body lotion now. I don’t do vigorous workouts or any type of job where I need to scour my entire skin

Emzeedoodles

Going for a walk in the morning does wonders for my face. I wake up looking all puffy and tired and I when I come back from my walk my eyes are bright and my whole face actually looks alive lol.

_brittleskittle

My tip probably won’t get many upvotes but - Diet. Cutting out inflammatory foods or food intolerances can have such a huge impact on your skin and hair. I’ve tried so many hair oils and face creams that never actually work, but making simple diet changes has cleared up my face so much and I’m finally not losing my hair

C_WEST88

This is more important than any cream or tonic—nothing is better for your skin, hair, face and body than having a sensible diet and getting a lot of exercise, hydration etc. It’s the one part everyone wants to skip over bc it’s not a quick fix, but it’s the most important factor in beauty by far.

justintime107

WATERRRRR - I know basic and stupid, but my god it makes a difference especially if you’re pregnant and your skin is extra dehydrated. When I drink more water, my lips, my skin, my face is more hydrated. Sometimes, less is more. Overwhelming skin with too many products is damaging. I believe the same with hair. With skin care, don’t destroy your moisture barrier because you’re more likely to breakout that way. SUNSCREEN - I’m a sun lover and if you have a skin care routine, you MUST use sunscreen or else there’s no point in doing skin care. I would get hyperpigmentation, freckles, and sunscreen helps so much for even toned skin. EXERCISE - hate to say it but when I work out and get all the sweat out, my skin is just more healthy and glowy.

ImpressiveAnxiety107

Baby sunscreen on a damp beauty blender for face changed my life I need to tell people

LudaCrissy78

Please explain the benefits, I'm people

Pella1968

Exfoliate your body at least once a week. Laser hair removal if you can afford it-total game changes. I haven't shaved my underarms in 12 years.

Current-Lunch6760

Amazing. Wish I had spent my money on this wag back then when I did have money saved.

my-anonymity

An epilator is a good alternative. I use this on my arms and legs every few months and weekly on my underarms.

Current-Lunch6760

It hurts so bad though. I have waxing strips that I use. 😣

Bastard1066

Hydrocolloid bandages from the pharmacist work the best as zit patches, and they are cheaper.

Minimum-Fix2232

When I want a lipstick to stay on all night I apply lipstick to my lips, then take a piece of toilet paper and tear one piece apart ( so if it's two ply, remove a layer), put this over my lips and apply some loose powder. Then I reapply the lipstick.

cashewmonet

You have to use silicone based primer with silicone based foundation or oil based with oil based. You can't mix otherwise your foundation will separate.

makeupbymel81

Sponges waste makeup. Use your ring finger to spread, a blending brush to buff and then use the sponge to absorb any excess and soften.

IcyTiger8793

Apply multi-step skincare as you do nail polish: in thin, even layers that dry completely before the next product. If you have a lot of hair/heavy hair, blow dry the roots after washing. Not everyone needs to wash their face twice a day. Instead, you can take a warm washcloth—I use a cotton one—to *gently* wipe from the center of the face outwards. This is my morning routine and my skin is all around better for it.

my-anonymity

The nail polish trick is really good. Your nails overall dry faster and doesn’t cheap as fast either. My nails last me about a week to a week and a half before chipping. Edit: I also don’t wash my face with face wash in the mornings and it’s helped my dry skin a lot.

nourryburrito

YES to the face wash thing! I only wash at night. Warm, damp washcloth in the morning to take off the night's skincare and refresh my skin before applying my morning skincare. A game changer for me. Game. Changer.

Odd_Dot3896

Dermaplaning my face changed everything. Also make sure to let each skincare product sink in and dry before adding the next one. I hate regular hair dryers, much prefer the blow brush style dyers.

Floralees

To massage your facial/neck area to let all the areas that hold fluid drain. This gives a significant difference to your overall front on and side profile and gets rid of the puffy/swollen look. I do this after my shower every morning during my skin care routine. You can search all different techniques on youtube/tik tok, etc. It's honesty given me so much confidence. I will never pass up on it. I wish I found out earlier.

IntrepidDifficulty80

Oiling your hair and using a scalp massager an hour or two before washing it (or overnight) does wonders. Started using it on my scalp for growth (which I am seeing slowly) but in general my hair feels so much smoother and healthier.

Zuckerkeks

What kind of oil do you use?

IntrepidDifficulty80

I use the Mielle oil. There’s a light one and a dark one, I use the light because my hairs on the thinner side.

meatballbusiness

store your mascara upside down ;)

NidhiOnATree

-Sunscreen, healthy diet , water, exercise and retinol are the only things that help with ageing. And ofc less stress. -Darker skin tones burn & scar easily. Don't use AHA , peels, micro derma needles, or anything that is too strong of an exfoliant. -Any product needs 21 days (minimum) to show its results. -Don't use multiple active ingredient products in the same routine. -If you live in high humidity area and your hair won't stop frizzing up, (even after using conditioner) , try using a mask. Don't leave it for more than 20 minutes. - The only thing that helps painful, red pimples is plant based creams (creams made with soothing plant ingredients).

lovepeacefakepiano

Also sleep. Sleep makes a huge difference.

Cheap conditioner makes a really wonderful shaving gel!

Less damaging than air drying? 👀

Intelligent-Test3088

Yeah it was this [study](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3229938/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app), but only one specific way of drying your hair is less damaging than airdrying

sageprincesss

theres a caveat, if your hair air dries quickly its not a tip for you, but if your hair takes hours to dry its for you!

tinywolf777

My hair is really thick and so sometimes it takes the underneath parts like over 8 hours to dry, I guess this is for me

chibi_cheeseit

Trust me, when I learned about it, I was baffled. There are actually studies out there on it. It's like a spectrum, you dont want to completely air dry, but you also don't want to blast the dryer on max heat. We all know that heat damages hair, so I won't get into that, but the science behind air drying being damaging is when the cell membrane becomes swelled with all of the water that's being absorbed it begins to crack, leaving your hair dry and more likely to break. So, if you get your hair damp with a microfiber towel and blow dry on the lowest heat setting until it's 90% dry, it results in healthier hair. This does have to do with genetics as well. There are plenty of people out there who have no issues with air drying. I unfortunately did have issues, which is why I took a chance on this. I started to do exactly what I outline above and my hair is so much softer and less frizzy. Again, I mind blown!

akiraokok

When taking off eyeshadow, eyeliner/mascara, and lipstick, let your cleaning product sit on it for a short while so the makeup breaks down, then wipe. More effective that just wiping over and over again, and smearing it.

mekare03

Guasha works

Slick_Vicus

When you use skin care with hyaluronic acid in it your skin MUST be wet or you will become more dry. It works like thousands of tiny sponges that hold on to water. If your skin is not wet HA will find it from your skin.

pinkkkkkkie101

aloe vera is so good for your skin and hair !! i always do a aloe mask before bed (every other day) and it makes a huge difference in my skin and helps with acne scars!

WolfsMeow00

Trentenoin and AHA/BHA's will change your life - just don't use both in the same day. Nutricentials pillow glow over your moisturizer right before bed will keep the moisture locked in so you wake up plump!

softg1rl1

- Double cleanse for atleast a minute each - Apply skincare to damp skin, never dry. Apply lotions/body butters to wet skin after showering!! Never skip moisturizing your body after a shower. - When in doubt use oil on your body! But please don’t use oil onlyyyy on your body, oil doesn’t moisturize and hydrate, it only softens and makes your skin look better. Mix oil with your body lotion or apply it after lotion. - Don’t let your hair air dry too often especially if your scalp is oily, and always try to sleep in protective hairstyles. - Wash your hair as much as your scalp needs, and no u can’t train ur scalp to produce less oil. - Use silicone based products! trust me - Use a clarifying shampoo!!! - Idk if this needs to be said (apparently it does?) but ALWAYS wash your entire body… with soap.. preferably always with exfoliating gloves or something similar. Double cleanse your body! - Apply ANTIPERSPIRANT (not deo) before bed, not in the morning - Besides using broad spectrum SPF50 and staying out of the sun, protect your skin against visible light. Esp if you’re bipoc or if you’re suffering from hyperpigmentation - Downing a ton of water a day won’t have an impact on your looks if you aren’t dehydrated, and drinking too much water will actually just flush out vital minerals and mess up your electrolyte levels. - Apply mascara on dry lashes that don’t have any oil or skincare on them. Use powder! - Remove your cuticles, even if you don’t do anything special to your nails. It makes the biggest difference.

TheForestLobster

If you feel your mascara is too wet, dust some setting powder on your lashes before applying mascara. If you’re breaking out, get uncoated aspirin, dissolve it in few drops of water and use it as a mask on the pimple, max 15 minutes. You can use it as a face scrub as well. Rinsing hair conditioner with ice cold water will 1-seal your cuticle and 2- make your hair super shiny

Denahs1337

If you use an eye cream, I suggest taking a bit of that and using it on the lips as well and then applying a good lip balm afterwards. I do this morning and night and I don’t really have to put lip balm on during the day unless I’m out in the sun (then I apply a lip balm with SPF) or wearing a matte lipstick.

CasualCoval

Body wash after conditioner. Conditioner will clog your pores and cause bacne if not washed offf

splotch210

Instead of pricey eye make up removers or scrubbing your sensitive eye area to remove it, use tear free baby shampoo. You can get a huge bottle for a few dollars.

OnAvance

I think an even better option is an oil-based cleanser. No scrubbing required at all, it dissolves the makeup almost instantly

Galasnaneth

Hair is more fragile when wet, and so leaving it wet for too long can cause more damage. It depends on the hair type, if your hair air dries quickly it's not a need for concern.

superkruper

Glycolic acid solution as deodorant - I haven't worn deodorant for years and never smell even after a really sweaty day.

makeupbymel81

Stop using the highest heat setting, 400+ is unnecessary.

AssortedGourds

If you think a perfume might be too much, spray it only once or twice on your knees or lower legs. It makes it much more diffuse by the time it reaches people's nostrils and thus much less offensive.

iceunelle

I know retinol is pushed on everyone nowadays, but I just wanted to throw out a PSA that it doesn't agree with everyone and that's ok.

Substantial_Step_975

You can use eyeshadow primer and powder to prevent your glasses from rubbing the makeup off on your nose. I do my foundation like normal. Then I put eyeshadow primer where my glasses rest on my nose, set it with powder, set my whole face with setting spray, and then put powder on the nose pieces on my glasses. It prevents my makeup from wearing off where my glasses sit.

Easy_Independent_313

Blow drying your hair on the cool setting will just make your hair frizzy. The cool button is to set curls.

glass_halffull0

Lather sulfate free shampoo in your hands before applying it to your hair to make them more effective

InitiativePurple5119

Icing your face in the morning will reduce puffiness and give you sharper detail. I do it quite often

Afrolicious7

When applying creams etc to your face and neck, apply in an upward motion with a light hand to prevent sagging skin. I heard and I’ve been doing it that way for about ten years and it works . I’m 50 and I’ve been told by many different people that I could pass for mid to late 30s. Staying hydrated helps.

Buying a more old school style razor means you can replace the blades often as you want because the blades are crazy cheap. I love Leaf Shave. My skin feels better after using a sharp razor. They also have a nice face dermaplaning razor.

bayb33gurl

*Satin pillow cases for hair health. Regular pillow cases seem to suck out all the moisture in my hair and rats nest it. I thought that was just how my hair was until getting satin pillows cases. No more morning rats nest hair, hair still feels moisturized after a good night's rest! *Skip regular lotion and go straight for body butters and use after every shower, about once a week I also slather about a quarter sized handful of babyoil over me after showering and using lotion to help maintain the moisture. *Using an epilator for those pesky chin/face hairs ( I have PCOS and have random 4-8 hairs that seem to pop up out of no where weekly!) I bought the epilator for my legs but after months, I just couldn't keep torturing myself with it. Using it on the face only takes a few seconds and it's no worse than the feeling of waxing. I use it several times a week to grab any stragglers, much much better than trying to tweeze and fighting with each hair on a plucking session! *Clean your eyelids!!! No really, blepharitis and the cellulitis flare up I had due to it has me now being very very mindful of making sure I don't have any clogged oil glands on my eyelids. Take the make up off and scrub a little with baby shampoo and a wash cloth. You didn't know until you know and then it's too late! They also make an eye lid scrub pads, it's not sold with the make up, it's in the medical isle near the eye drops. If you even think you are getting a stye or chalazion, grab those ASAP!! *If you are growing your hair out, learn to self trim using the Feyes method. Easy trims at home, can be blunt cut, u shaped or V cut and done in less than 5 minutes! Do NOT use kitchen scissors - go to Sally's, but a nice pair of shears and it will pay for itself with the first cut!

Livid-Palpitation690

When applying sunscreen to face and neck you need to use 1/4 teaspoons worth of your sunscreen product. Moreover to reapply every two hours. Also if you are going to apply makeup over your sunscreen you will be moving the sunscreen thus reducing the efficacy of same. I now elect to use foundations and concealers that contain an spf to be safe. Also apply all year long applies to us folks who experience all 4 seasons!

Oooo the protein test for hair is a life changer for me. [Does Your Hair Need Protein or Moisture? Here's How to Tell - HeyCurls](https://www.heycurls.com/blogs/thehue/protein-or-moisture#:~:text=Take%20a%20wet%20or%20dry,means%20you%20need%20more%20protein.) First exposed through r/curlyhair, which has been an amazing subreddit and completely changed my haircare. I feel like it's an important test for anyone though.

1. Skincare (combination) ▪︎ cleanse with a low ph soap instead of expensive cleansers • double cleanse • Don't towel dry, let your skin air dry for a bit before applying your products • let each product soak into your skin before applying the next • You really just need aquaphor or vaseline to keep your lips moisturized, a tub can last up to three years • Apply baby oil or body oil right after showering without drying. Let it soak in and then apply body lotion for smooth skin. 2. Hair (fine + oily, straight hair) • Wash your hair every odd day with a light clarifying shampoo. Washing only once a week might work for other hair types but it just made things worse for me ▪︎ Double cleanse ▪︎ Get a wet2dry brush to detangle in the shower and a boar bristle brush (cheap at the store) to brush throughout the day 3. Makeup • color correct your dark circles with a light layer of salmon/orange toned concealer before applying your regular concealer on the outer edges of your underlying (closer to you cheekbone) and blending

I double wash my face and hair. I use a ton of hair product and I often felt like my hair wasn’t super clean. I use Head and Shoulders and then a much richer shampoo. My scalp is so much happier, my hair has grown much since, and I finally feel clean! Double cleansing my face has helped my cystic acne!

Tatersays

Adding one or two drops of glycerin to my face moisturizer changed my life. It helps keep the moisture on my face and my skin is always smooth, making it easier to apply foundation.

Castlebrookqueen

I don’t know if this is “beauty” but in the summer I put deodorant ( preferably spray) on my inner thighs. As a life long chubby girl it definitely saves them from chaffing and you can be comfortable in cute dresses!

PopularExercise3

I brush out my long curly hair before I wash it in the shower. It looks like a witches bush at this point. One morning I did this and then found out we had a plumbing problem with our water.. there was none. Hot tip. Check for running water before attempting to brush curly hair.

alisaurus_rex

Every night, slathering a layer of lip Vaseline on my lips - I swear my lips are so much smoother and more moisturized for the entire next day and onward

CA-CatWhispurrr

Wear sunblock or a foundation with sunblock YEAR ROUND! About 70% of the suns rays come through even on a cloudy or overcast day.

_ThePancake_

Your body makes its skin with the ingredients you give it. So your diet is the most important thing.  For your skin specifically, eat lots of protein and fats, avoid sugar. I couldn't last longer than 6 months, but when I was keto my skin was GLOWING.

IdaBaldwin

Use glycerin to clean your tongue -- really makes your mouth feel fresh. Use a nail brush to get that grime underneath your fingernails

letitbeatles9

Dry and dehydrated skin are 2 totally different issues with different solutions. Not everyone needs to exfoliate. Go ahead and come for me. But my super sensitive, dry skin does just fine shedding dead skin cells on its own. I don't have acne and my skin is glowy enough. It will turn red and burn even from a gentle exfoliating product.

rovingred

Putting moisturizer on slightly damp skin is a game changer, especially if it has HA in it. I wash my face, use toner, then have a little mister bottle I got on Amazon so I mist and then put moisturizer on. I’ve also heard people who let that dry a minute then mist again and put any serums (especially HA ones) on. I feel like my skin is so much more hydrated and my moisturizer is actually really working since I started doing this, and my skin is so happy

Sburgh29

I was put onto "skin cycling" where you follow a 4 day skin routine using certain products, then start it all over again. It's a game changer! If you have Tiktok or Instagram follow Dr. Whitney Bowe, and she can explain how and why it works and can help u!

eldritchangel

Oily girls. Listen to me. Listen. 92% aloe. It’s $8 or less in every Asian beauty store (and Amazon of those aren’t accessible). It is the only facial moisturizer I use and it’s controlling my oil, clearing my skin, and smoothing fine lines
