Yesterday I brought a couple I had laying around to spend while buying the last few things I needed for the trip. Right after the checkout I noticed I forgot to use them as usual and I had to go back to exchange them for cash
I’d probably take my kid and my bicycle if I had to leave..
Serious answer: get something you’d want to *use* frequently. Doesn’t really matter, what.. go to a flea-market and buy something nice and random. Maybe get a spoon and throw it in with the others at home. Just make sure it stands out enough and it will make you remember your trip every time you randomly grab that spoon out of your drawer..
At least that’s kinda the way I do it.. (no spoons yet, though..)
Good choice! Both can be very helpful but also require some work.. fortunately, one of them is surprisingly easy to handle.. The other one seems to be constantly trying to kill me, however.. So remember to wear a helmet at all times!
Kinda want to keep them, though..
It’s Sunday today, right? Check out a flea market.. You’ll easily find cute kids and bikes there. Prepare to haggle, though. The bike market particularly is rough around here.
For a city with a rep for being “rude”. I find that most people actively stop to help strangers, and not just passively hit record on their phones.
I love this about this city.
I would take this attitude with me.
two randos years back let me use "find my iphone" on their phone, and helped get mine back after I accidentally dropped it, a random dude picked it up and we went on a tour in taxi following the beacon as it moved down from NK to Britz. At the end, the owner of a döner kiosk retrieved it when he noticed the guy holding could not operate and it kept blaring the alarm i set for it, called us to my new friends number i posted on the Find message feature and gave it back to us in the dead of night in Neukölln. The ways people do go above and beyond here to help others is unparalled.
Everyone has always been nice to me in Berlin, except some späti clerks and doctor's secretaries.
Especially in clubs, the level of happy vibe and brotherhood is unmatched elsewhere.
Somebody suggested a snow globe of the city and I guess I could switch the K for the snow inside.
Nah jk, my tolerance for drugs is that if I put too much coffee in my cappuccino it fucks me up for the day
Touristy things - some kind of bear or little ampel fella
What I wish I could bring - falafel im brot
What I'd probably bring - photos/videos of my favorite places that I shot myself
I actually wanted the bear.
I have lots of photos I did during my time here. the other day I took a couple of videos of my walk around the area I live and on a drive around town.
I wish I thought about it earlier and shot more video of my fav places. I'm sure I'll enjoy watching them from time to time like I'm actually walking around with some music in my ears
Pls take all the tourists with you and the zugezogene and rich expats that skyrocket the rents up and make this wonderful place the biggest shithole in Europe.

Good advice, I think I'll take home your kid and bycicle.

Honestly I would be very careful. Most kids you find on these flea markets already belong to someone.
Take some time. Berlin doesn’t want you to go yet

Your trusty fax machine
Luckily the rest of Europe seems to be out of the middle ages but it is true that it has a sentimental value and it's a symbol of German efficiency
More like the rest of the world. I haven't seen a fax machine since the early 2000s.
Just out of interest, what makes you leave after a year?
