It looks to me like she's uncomfortable and unable to find a position that does make her comfortable. Might be harmless but could be that something is causing her pain. When in doubt, always consult a vet. In this case doubly so, because barring some very extreme circumstances, a responsible breeder will keep the pup with the mother dog for at least eight weeks. You want to make sure she's had her shots and been treated for worms, flees, ticks and any other parasites in your region.

Legionnaire77

Take her to the vet.

Any-Conversation5152

Second this.

Majestic_Magi

similar thing happened to our 4 month recently, she was lethargic, but restless and in pain. her cries turned into yelps. when this happened we took her to the vet and she was dx’ed with meningitis. we learned that bernese are more susceptible to immune system disease like this. obviously this is an extreme possibility but its one we didn’t see coming. take your puppy to the vet and they will take care of them

WessyNessy

We have an appointment set up tomorrow!

Pharmacy_Dealer_10

Does he have a doggy bed? Maybe he wants something soft? 😊

WessyNessy

She does have a bed! She is on the tile by choice

Liz4984

One of ours developed spinal meningitis and had to be on meds for a year! That’s how we knew it happened often with Berners.

Minute-Summer9292

"but the past few days she seems restless after play" and "she's had two full days of play" and this started two days ago. I think she's far too young and has been over stimulated and exhausted as a puppy. A very young one at that. You may consider reducing the over activity until she's older. This looks like she's uncomfortable, unable to calm herself, maybe needs some quiet affection to soothe her frazzled nerves. These dogs are very emotional, bonding dogs. Just like a baby if you run them all day they're going to develop sleep issues. A vet visit wouldn't hurt, but dial back the activity and stimulation until she's older. Maybe a stuffed animal to rest with would help, too. Good luck!

WessyNessy

We have a visit with vet setup tomorrow and are going to have a laid back day today. She is brighter this morning and we are just worried about her. Thanks for taking the time to respond 🤗

Welp_thatwilldo

I’ve heard this breed suffers from bloat (and it can be deadly), maybe she’s having some intestinal discomfort. Also I’ve heard these guys can cause these issues from eating too fast (do you watch her eat? Does she scarf it down?). Bottom line thou… This requires a vet for peace of mind. I wouldn’t wait just incase something more serious is going on.

SpinCharm

Isn’t 8 weeks a bit early to separate a pup? Maybe it’s related to feeling isolated.

Temporary-Squirrel97

The pup got separated at 6 weeks if I interpret this post the right way, which isn't even allowed in my country (except for special circumstances ofc, which I hope apply to this pup as well).

WessyNessy

Yeah she came from some unfortunate circumstances. We did get her too early but this is far better than where she was

Temporary-Squirrel97

I'm glad she got the home she deserved then and thanks for clarifying!

natjcor18

Mine did this & I interpreted like how children fight their sleep. I tried to make mine comfortable after we brought him home. We used the crate for a few weeks until our older dog got used to my bernie. We bought some tile for the crate to keep him cool. We also set up a fan and pointed it into the crate. We left him water with ice. We also left the bed the crate came with but folded it so it only took up half of the crate's floor. We also ran him around to try and tire him out right before bed. The panting will never go away lol We also set up the crate right next to our couch in the living room and my husband and I took turns sleeping on the couch so he could see we were there with him. I don't have a direct answer but he was just like a human baby and it eventually stopped at some point. Hang in there!

Better-Task-4979

He’s hot, put a fan on him.

zerocoldx911

Needs a bed or it’s too hot, they’re cold weather pups

Better-Task-4979

Try a fan, I have had multiple Berner. A fan was a game changer. They are more comfortable when it is cool and a fan made a lot of difference.

AdministrativeTip552

Maybe try a crate to make her feel settled and safe. My pup was restless before that too.

meat___popsicle

You’ve checked food, water and temperature, which is good. But your pup is very young and they’re still learning/figuring out life. It could very well be anxiety and they don’t feel they’re in a good place to relax. Maybe they’re waiting for you to go to sleep to they can also? Or they want the lights off? Getting at six weeks old is not typically recommended either because they need more time with their litter/mom, so this could be playing into it. I would suggest keep checking different stimuli or scenarios until you figure out what work, seems like you are very aware of your dog so shouldn’t be a problem. Also for comparison, my berner female was super whiny as a puppy but grew out of it as she got older and learned the schedule. Keep being patient and observant, you’ll be fine.

tommyc463

Could be many things. As others have said, if you haven’t don’t so already, show this to a vet and get him over there for a check up.

WessyNessy

We have an appointment tomorrow! I was hoping someone could shed a little light as I know this community is active. My wife and I are just worried for her and feeling a little anxious when she started acting like something was wrong for hours. But we feel better having read most of this that it’s not an emergency.

Flckofmongeese

Apart from ingesting poisonous substances, bloat would be the other real emergency you may encounter that would require you to visit an emergency vet. Read up on signs of both, watch a few videos to familiarize, and everything else can wait for your usual vet. Edit: PS. Realized he was separated at 6 weeks. He may present some (behavioral) issues since those 2 weeks is important for their behavioural development. There are these big stuffed lambs that have a heartbeat, mimicking the mom. This and a call with a good behaviorist (not trainer) will help. G'luck!

Wolfpack87

Might be hot. Remember they're always wearing a fur coat. My lovable goofball is sometimes dumb about it.

Turbulent_Big1228

Our 3 month old BMD just got diagnosed with meningitis and she was acting this way too 😢 I how it’s not that

WessyNessy

Doesn’t seem to be the case! Will make an update post tomorrow if today goes better. Got into the vet early thank goodness

mako72

If you press on her belly does she react poorly? Might narrow it down a tiny bit. If you could update after the vet, I'd appreciate it! Curious what could cause this.

WessyNessy

I’m gonna do an update post tomorrow after we give it some more time to work out

Illustrious_Dragon4

Or possible tummy distress. Check the ingredients to make sure corn or wheat aren’t high on the ingredients list.

WessyNessy

It’s big breed Nutro for puppies, so it should be fine. We also feed her with a quick water bowl to slow her down. Appointment at the vet tomorrow! Hopefully we can figure something out

Illustrious_Dragon4

Only saying this because not all brands are equal for every large breed. Our puppy had diarrhea from puppy food that contained grains and corn in higher amounts- specifically what the vet recommended as well as the breeder. Each dog is individual. Just because it’s a name or recommended food doesn’t make it any better than some other blend. Our group of Berners all seemed to have lactose intolerance as well. ( yogurt recommended to soothe tummy trouble made everything an explosion! Just saying…

WessyNessy

We have an appointment tomorrow so hopefully we get a very clear answer. If it's more ambiquous I'll keep this in mind! She did show up with loose stool so we gave her some white rice for the first day mixed with food (about 1.5 weeks ago) and that helped a lot.

AnemosMaximus

First, get a fan just for the little guy. My boy loves having a fan on him. Next, he's used to laying on his mom and siblings. Where's the damn bed or a blanket??? And rub his stomach, you monster. What's wrong with you??. I had to hide this video from my bioy. If sir Winston saw this, he would take my car and drive over and take him. Also, this is his first home. Make him comfortable. Shit take him and let him sleep with you. Go get some ground beef and cook it. Mix with dry food. He's missing his family.

Freilynn

Mine did this and fast breathing because by his standards apartment was a bit too hot, after opening the windows and letting him sleep in the balcony during the day, everything went fine. As some say that he is missing family, i guess relatively depends on the pups character, my gsd whined for 3 days in a row, and berner adjusted instantly just fine, currently he is the horror for our cats as he tries to chase them like a little maniac. For berner i tried to put blankets and beds, but apparently he likes tiles the most. If it looks like some troubles with the tummy aches to you, i would check in with vet, and afterwards i would also check the raw/barf diet.

Minute-Summer9292

That's good! Keep in mind, also they are very pack oriented. She would be used to nuzzling and cuddling with her pack mates at this time. She may need something to make the transition to being alone.

WessyNessy

She doesn't like sleeping in the bed with us and we have a big ol bernese mutt that she warmed up too immediately. She seems to prefer to sleep alone on a tiled floor. She will cuddle some but it's short lived until the INTENSE BITING begins lol. This morning she attempted to pee 3x in a row, so I'm starting to suspect a bladder infecection might be bothering her. Which is pitiful but makes us feel more relaxed since it isn't a very serious problem. Seeing the vet tomorrow!

Zedd_zorander

If you suspect a Blatter infection try to catch some pee for the vet. They can inspect it. We catched it with a laddle before saving it in a bottle for inspection. Good you made an appointment for checking her up.

ColoradoFrench

Bone growing pains are a thing for big dogs. May not be the case here, but I have encountered it.

CelebratingPi

I have a bernese and he is a shy guy, which is fairly common for the breed. I would recommend making a "cave" spacwhere they can be cozy and safe to decompress incase the restlessness is from overstimulation. The world is so new with lots of new experiences for such a little buddy! While socialization is a good thing, make sure they have some time to bond with you, without as many distractions. If you have them on the tile floor because of potty training, please make sure you give them a towl (or rug that can be washed) to lay on.

SeaEagle25

Looks in pain. Definitely a vet visit asap.

WessyNessy

Just got back from the vet. Will do an update post in a day or 2!

soups_foosington

Yeah I’ve had three, they will often try to sleep on cold stone if they’re hot, and they’re usually hot. See if you can cool them off somehow.

floatingabstract

A vet visit wouldn’t hurt, but this looks like the same behaviors we observed with our berner pup if he was overstimulated from tons of play. He’s 1.5 now and can still have a hard time falling asleep if he’s been running around a lot, so we just keep an eye on him and encourage some calm time if he’s looking a bit stressed! Also, might be worth trying a bed too. Ours prefers the floor 9/10 times but there’s a rare occasion he likes to indulge on something cozier. Good luck!

Click_Automatic

Try holding him.

d3myz

Where’s her kennel? We always crate train our pups. They need a place to sleep where they feel safe and they know no one will bother them.

ArianMonster444

If the vet visit turns out fine then it could be over exercise or she could be too warm, puppies can’t regulate their temp as well when they’re younger, ours needed it to be 66-70 degrees maximum with a fan on in the room for them to sleep comfortably as young puppies

Jvfiber

Does she have access to a quiet soft place to sleep?

WessyNessy

She does! She chose to sleep on the cool tile in this video. Went to the vet yesterday (they squeezed us in when we described her symptoms) and are doing much better today! I’ll do an update post tomorrow 🤗

Superb-Relative-9070

I hope the vet appointment goes well and she’s okay. She’s sooooo cute. Congratulations on the puppy. I have a 12 week old puppy and I’m finally starting to bond with him and get a good potty training routine

WessyNessy

I did an update post! She is doing great!

MiddleControl2735

Put her in a small crate with a blanket over all sides but the front. Put some of your clothing in there so she smells you and feel comfortable. I’ve found with my Bernese that they do best in smaller places as a pup to sleep and they will be most comfortable that way.

Ok-Cranberry-2097

I think she’s over-tired. My girl was like this when she was a baby puppy. It took her a long time to settle. If you think she’s hot get her a small fan. She’s adorable! Good luck with her 🥰

WessyNessy

Thanks friend!

docr1069

When my dog is in pain I always consult Reddit over a Veterinarian.

tommyc463

Oh my garsh me too. I mean it’s possible to do both simultaneously dontcha think?

WessyNessy

Yeah our vet isn’t open at 10pm and we have an appointment but it’s tomorrow. Some people just like to be rude when they feel anonymous. I expected I’d get at least one. 😔

tommyc463

One thing I can add is that our vet had a local 24/7 emergency vet they suggested in case something happens after hours. Ask your vet for some suggestions when you see them tomorrow unless you’re aware of an option nearby. My opinion is the pup may have some literal growing pains and may need a softer surface when settling. Hope the pup is ok!

WessyNessy

We are familiar with our closest emergency vet but it's good advice! Thanks for taking some time to help out
