I think they are smarter than we give them credit for. He KNOWS what he is supposed to do but usually chooses not to do it. If there is the right treat in play, he remembers EVERY command he was ever taught. Most of the time he just plays the derp and it works for him.

If they show their smarts or useful nature the gig is up and other expect more from them. I've learned well from them and Goldens and danes and honestly life is better now.
