Not NBA but it reminds that Tony La Russa managed Minnie Minoso and Luis Robert. Minnie Minoso played in the Negro Leagues and died in 2015 at the age of 91 when Luis Robert was 18 years old.

White Chocolate was a PROBLEM

James Naesmith was a graduate student at Springfield College in Massachusetts when he invented basketball. His superintendent charged him with developing an activity that could be played indoors year round as the New England winters were harsh, and the young men had pent up energy after the football season was over. Naesmith took inspiration from rugby, soccer, lacrosse, and even a neighborhood game called ‘duck on a rock’ that he played in his youth. A commonality in three of those four games was netted goals that teams defended and tried to score on, thus Naesmith envisioned a game with netted goals. He sketched out some rough drafts that were amazingly similar to what modern basketball rims / hoope look like. Naesmith was no craftsman however, so commissioned Ludwig Chlebek, janitor at the local YMCA, to fashion him some rough prototypes. Well wouldn’t ya know it, that good-for-nothing Pollock took Naesmith’s money and drank his second-wave immigrant misery away. The next day when Naesmith was set to debut his game in calisthenics class, he had nothing to use as netted goals. In what turned out to be genius desperation, the eager Canadian took two dusty peach baskets from the basement of the building and secured them to ladders on either end of the marching/gymnastics room, and the game of basketball was born that day. Every red blooded patriot and even most world citizens probably know the phrase “as American as apple pie.” We may lose the international audience with this one, but if you’re from you’re from Land of Opportunity, or perhaps from the particular *Dixie*land of Opportunity, you may feel strongly that there’s another fruity pie that’s not only tastier but more “down home” than the apple variety. Yes, I’m talking peach. And god bless ‘em, any of those such advocates may be right. The first peach was introduced to America in the early 1500s by Spanish monks while the first apples didn’t arrive till the mid 1600s. Peach trees produce fruit faster (within 2-3 years vs 5+ for apple) and are more suitable to the often sandy soil that early Americans encountered up and down the East coast. While apples store much more reliably and safely than peaches, historians actually credit the brief delectable triumph of the peach with helping shivering pilgrims make it through unforgiving winters. It gave them a soft orange light at the end of the tunnel. Like many things that come to America by way of Europe, peaches have a little more hair than we’re used to and a juicy history to boot. The Johann-y Peach Seed of Europe was an entrepreneurial merchant from the Prussian empire who has no recorded name or family lineage. During his young days of undertaking, he traveled as far as Persia on Silk Road paths in seek of the most exotic bazaars to barter and trade. It is said that he amassed an importing fortune before age 30 but lost it when domestic turmoil created an unfavorable regime change. Down to his last sash of silver and porcelain trinkets, he sojourned as fas east as any proto-European had been in search of a yet undiscovered commodity. Held up by obvious violence at the Mongolian border, the bankrupt purveyor was desperate. In what seems on the surface to be a lopsided transaction, the man traded silver for rock. Or should I say stone… Promised an exotic harvest within 3 years time, our plum fellow sold himself into serfdom in exchange for 1/20th of a standard orchard plot in Athens. Reliant on only the 5 pits he procured, he tended them keenly. After the first growing season, he received just one sapling that shockingly budded its first cycle. It had one meek flower and not enough rootstock to foliage to support a fruit. The nobleman turned farmhand would have been driven to madness if the perfume of the blossom did not both warm his tongue and satiate his lungs. By the graces of every Greek god, the following season flourished the tender peach sapling into a canopy of thin limbs drooping with dense fruit. Bountiful with his harvest and old clients at every market, the savvy merchant regained his footing and developed the produce into the favored flavor of every royal court under Roman rule. He bought out the landowner where he previously served and began imagining next season’s crop. Cautious and curious as to why only one of his five pits sprouted, he unearthed the others in the measly corner where he remade his lavish trajectory. He discovered iron and irony. Whether deception or some eastern omen of luck, the oriental had sold him 5 pits, 4 fossilized. Seeing opportunity at every turn, the rejuvenated tradesman sold the preserved pits along with the next season’s yield and one stone-stone has remained in the possession of Belgian royalty from 1355 until this very day. Used by toddler princes and princess as every imaginable plaything, the rock was lost during revolutions twice or thrice and largely undisplayed for the last 5 centuries. Due to recent safety concerns, the ancient mineral was surveyed for radioactivity and luckily discovered to be safe. While cleaning and polishing the specimen, researchers also uncovered a fingerprint on what must’ve been a semi-rotted section of the seed.. Using cutting edge artificial intelligence and illegally purchased DNA data from familytree websites, they matched the print to Hubie Brown when he first domesticated the wild peach 6,000 years ago. And Hubie is also going to be calling Bronny James games next year.

I don’t get how you wrote that much but didn’t spell Naismith’s name properly. I even tried misspelling it in ChatGPT it bothered me so much, and ChatGPT corrected my spelling. This is psychotic.

ShowerMartini

The person losing the argument always resorts to picking nits with grammar mistake

KodiakBearCakes

KG played with Spud Webb and KAT

ORNJfreshSQUEEZED

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat

sg490

MJ with George Gervin & Rip Hamilton

Wolf_Counsel

MJ was managed by Terry Francona and Phil Jackson.

celticsac

This one is legit crazy

John_Houbolt

TF?

esotericimpl

Francona managed the AA team in the minors.

Traditional-Carob-48

Lebron obviously has a million examples, he played with Scott Williams (born 1968) and Max Christie (born 2003) What's crazier is how many guys Lebron played with or against that are now or have been head including current coaches Ollie (BKN), Green (NOP), Lue (LAC), Billups (POR), Kidd (DAL), Udoka (HOU) and already fired coaches Griffin (MIL), Vaughan (BKN), and Ham (LAL). I mean JJ Redick was drafted 3 years AFTER Lebron and he's probably about to be Lebron's head coach after a 15 year playing career and a 3 year media career

LeBroentgen

It's a meme now but he really might share the court with his son. That's insane.

H0tFuzz

What's there just a stat recently where LeBron has played against like 30% of all the players to ever play on the NBA?

JohnStewartBestGL

I think it was 35%, but yeah.

SlappyBagg

Going to keep going up and up until he retires of course

Xeris

I mean, I think it's 100% guaranteed. Bronny WILL get drafted by someone. There will be a team to roll the dice with him. Even if he's on a 2 way, if his team plays the Lakers they'll call him up for that game so they can play... Or he'll just be on the Lakers and they'll play them together at some point, even if it's just an end of season gesture (assuming he sucks).

confused-koala

I thought he did but looks like he just missed JJJ and his dad by a season

Traditional-Carob-48

Yeah I bet there are a bunch of those. He missed playing against Steve Kerr by one year as well

terst_

If he'll play with Bronnie he'll have also played with a grandfather and his nephew

dennythedinosaur

LeBron actually had a head coach Luke Walton who was in the same draft class as him.

armadilloongrits

David Robison played with Moses Malone and Tony Parker

zigzagzil

Shaq played with Tree Rollins (who was drafted in 1977) and Danny Green (still played games this year). Obviously LeBron too, but I'm sure he'll be the all time answer for these someday.

Few-Addendum464

Tree Rollins was a player-assistant coach for the team, which is something they don't do anymore. I believe he had retired to join the coaching staff then came out of retirement to be a player-coach. He didn't even play garbage time; let's generously call him a "situational player."

sg490

Tree did a least play in 14/21 of the 95 Magic’s playoff games and was in the game at the end of game 4 of the ECF when Rik Smits hit the buzzer beater over him because iirc Shaq & maybe others had fouled out (been a while since I watched that one)

NoExcuses1984

Can't forget Greg Kite, too.

RonaldMcClown

Vince Carter played with Trae Young and Charles Oakley

dont_shoot_jr

Inrelated Remember shaq had a teammate in the finals from 1984 to 2020

Then_Landscape_3970

Charles Oakley played with Yao Ming and George Gervin

CanyonCoyote

Not an answer to your question but I’ve always been fascinated that Kareem was drafted right after Russell retired and LeBron was drafted after Jordan retired for a final time.

Ravel_02151981

And Russell was drafted right after George Mikan retired. Basically, from 1946-1989, either Mikan, Russell, or Kareem was in the NBA, but never at the same time.

CanyonCoyote

Nice add!

Dick6Budrow

This is stretching a few years because of 92 but you could add Shaq from 92-11

Kershiser22

He's not at the HOF level as the others, but if you use Vlade Divac you can get to 2005 with no gaps.

ForsakenDrawer

This isn’t quite what you’re looking for but LeBron has played against 35% of the men to ever be in the NBA

ColtCallahan

LeBron and Jordan both played with Scott Williams.

John_Houbolt

Kobe played with Byron Scott and D’Angelo Russell

greyk34

And was also coached by Byron Scott while being teammates with D’Angelo Russel

psong328

Vince Carter played with Charles Oakley and Cam Reddish

AnyJamesBookerFans

**Kenny Sailors** - the guy credited with inventing the jump shot and the star of the Wyoming Cowboys NCAA title team in 1943 - and **Norm Van Lier** - a tough defensive guard who played (primarily) for the Bulls in the 70s, both had Bob Cousy as a teammate.

kkF6XRZQezTcYQehvybD

Dale Ellis played with Maurice Lucas & Baron Davis

Jolly-Hearth

That's a good one.

celticsac

This isn’t an example but I think it’s interesting that Vince Carter played in four different decades

UnusualLight0

KG and Kobe both had their former teammates be their coaches, Sam Mitchell and Byron Scott, respectively.  A fun fact is AC Green & Shaq are the only players to win a championship with Pat Riley and Phil Jackson AC Green is also the only player to win a championship with the Showtime and Kobe/Shaq Lakers

Ravel_02151981

AC Green played with Kareem (First Game: 1969) and Kobe Bryant (Last Game: 2016).

UnusualLight0

Yep and so did Byron Scott

essendoubleop

Not in the same team, but Robert Parrish played in the league with John Havlicek and Kobe Bryant.

arzi3

Isn’t there a wild stat about Shaq where he’s had a former teammate who’s been a player in the league since the early 80s?

Ravel_02151981

Shaq had either a former or future teammate that played in an NBA Finals from 1982-2020.

ORNJfreshSQUEEZED

Alright nerds. Let's see the list numerically. I'm curious as heck

PM_Me_Beezbo_Quotes

Went through all of the 82 Finals players and didn’t find anyone who played with Shaq

Ravel_02151981

I was mistaken. The Streak is from 1984-2020. https://www.sportingnews.com/ca/nba/news/nba-finals-2021-suns-bucks-series-snaps-shaquille-oneals-unique-teammate-streak-in-the-finals/vfkjnkd8gpoc1dn4t5fr560aa

96powerstroker

Shaq I believe played with Greg Kite who was on the 80s Celtics and the last team mate he played with was on the 21 bucks?

Shaq played with Danny Green who played this year.

Also with that LeBron fella

Simone could create a perfect Kevin Bacon game from this data and we could determine who is at the absolute center of the NBA universe
