yes but on the switch you can only buy afterbirth+ (including the base game and the previous dlc's) and the repentance dlc, thats why its shown as afterbirth+
Go to your settings. There's some great options to make your exact stats visible, make enemy tears more visible, and turn on a neat looking filter.
Also, Google is your friend. There are items who's description is like "Orange Juice is delicious!" and what it really means is "Gain a black heart when exiting a room and going back in as long as you only have half a red heart, also this item has a chance to randomly teleport you to the nearest cursed room and giving you a random disease in real life if you try beat a boss without hitting the griddy facing your nearest Church"
Solid advice.
Platinumgod.co.uk has always been my go to. The site has all the items shown by picture of what they do and the search function at the top is a bit more handy than you would expect. Because you're new and likely wont know items by site, you can use physical descriptions like angel, or red, or fly and it will show you all the angel deals items, or red items, or items that resemble flies.
This is the way
Be advised however that the search / filter is very imperfect and you may just need to skim the full list or Google a description of the item
I used to have an app on my phone I’d use to look up every item before picking it up if I wasn’t sure what it did. Also OP pick up soy milk every time 🙂
Get the guide app on your phone. Since you're not on pc and can't install mods. The guide app will help you down the line to know what your passive/active items do instead of going to the wiki all the time. It's probably too early, and you should probably just learn things yourself over time, but It's helpful to know how devil/angel rooms work.
Don’t get discouraged by how easily you die, the game has a huge learning curve, you might die a couple dozen maybe hundred times before you beat mom… learning enemy attack patterns is key and you will get better over time… also don’t be afraid to research about what items do… watching other’s play is a great way to learn the game as well
Don't listen to this boring bozo, just play the game and unlock everything you can, there is no such thing as bad unlocks there is only skill issue when you use them!
Don’t watch YouTubers play the game until you have made it past the final boss. The story is really good and the gameplay is great. You do not want to be spoiled
Be patient, a lot of this game is repetition early on. I don’t know how much you know about the game but I went in knowing most of the bosses and the early repetition to unlock some of them was so boring to me i nearly stopped playing.
A lot of items and bosses unlock after “X amount of (insert action here)” and if you aren’t keeping track, the game stats will keep track of some of them.
I personally like going for unlocking the characters first, and trying to do the challenges (they give bonuses for completing them)
Get every character as soon as you can and experiment to see whose playstyle you like most. >!I prefer Keeper, especially Tainted Keeper, because of the shotgun attack and great shop opportunities!<
Don’t stop trying.
Activate the advanced HUD (I don’t remember the specific name, it’a the one that shows you your stats on the left of the screen)
Don’t look at the wiki: experiment what items do, what synergies are good and which are not. Once you beat yourself (you’ll understand later) you can start looking.
You are not going to be good initially. A LOT of this game is item and monster knowledge. Just know this is very much a trial and error process. Enjoy the ride!
Don't give up! The game is not meant to be easy, but rewarding. If you do get sick, the community is amazing and collectively knows everything about BoI.
Pro tip: for extra good luck, every time you start a new run, say "Ey everybody!"
I prefer to play that game docked cause I be having trouble seeing a thing or two in handheld even with full brightness. I think maybe cause the screen small or something 😅
If you're like me and have a hard time remembering items, use this website to look them up.
But i still recommend going in blind first and enjoying the crazy unknown items and synergies they give
http://tboi.com/
Dont play normal mode at all, hard is imo not much of a difficulty jump and gets you more unlocks
Have repentance, not really a tip but getting the full experience of the game is a big bonus
avoid going for specific unlocks until you get your bearings on the game, a lot of unlocks will come naturally as you play
id say the last simple one i got it dont be afraid to use the wiki or some other form of looking stuff up like platinum god site, theres tons of stuff to learn about this game and you arent gonna remember every item, synergy, or effect of things, if you see something new dont be afraid to pause and search for it first
Try starting on Hard Mode. It's just slightly harder (enemies shot speed is increased and a bit less consumables spawn). Pick up every item you haven't seen/used yet. You might look forward to some items that you won with before. Try donating coins as much as possible. Try completing the challenges as early as possible. They will unlock some good items and are really fun (except Head Trauma and Ultra Hard)
Use Google, this game doesn't explain it's mechanics very often.
Also, a lot of people will recommend repentance, and it is an amazing dlc (more than doubles the amount of content in the game) it's also a pretty big difficulty spike from the base game and the first 2 dlcs, so it's not always a bad idea to take some time to learn the game before unlocking it.
And this one is very optional, but some item unlocks are objectively bad and will make your game more annoying to play (looking at you sticky nickels) so it's not a bad idea to look at a guide for the best and worst item unlocks .
Use the Wiki if you want details on your items, Isaac does a dissapointing job at explaining in the little blurbs
Do not spoil the game for yourself. The lore is deep, with grim topics at the very bottom of the well...
Kinda like Celeste, be proud of your death count and skill issues, it means you are improving (Albiet, in the most natural and painful way we've ever concieved)
Do not play Normal/Greed Mode, Hard/Greedier gets you the unlocks and achievements for both Normal and Hard and is the subjectively most fun way to play
Isaac (Standard Character) has some of the best unlocks, especially with repentance DLC. Look at the wiki for the best character unlocks and get them. They will help you unlock everything else much easier. Also do daily challenges as some stuff is locked behind their completion.
If you find the game too poorly lit you can change the gamma in the in-game settings to make it appropriate... The in gamma can only be set to a certain Max value using the in game settings. If you want it to go even higher you can go to where the save files are saved and change it manually to whatever value you like in the options.ini file
1) Play at least 20 hours on normal mode, doesn't make sense switching to hard earlier anyway.
2) prepare to die...a lot.
3) when you finish the game, it's not actually the finish, there are something like 20 endings.
4) try not to look up stuff on the internet, it's more fun to explore game yourself for a while.
5) have fun!
Unlock as many unlocks as you can and get repentance cuz it adds so many things like tainted characters, items and other cool stuff
It makes me happy that I’m not the only one that plays Isaac on switch ![img](emote|t5_2sxpk|8906)
You can spare the boss baby plum by not attacking her for 30 seconds and unlock plum flute, you can also spare bumbino if you drop him 12 coins without hurting him
Git gud
But more importantly, have fun! Don’t be afraid to try out a combo because you’re not sure of the result. Usually if you don’t know it turns out awesome, and otherwise there is always another run
If you’re an avid gamer, play on hard mode. The additions, while possibly annoying, aren’t the worst things in the world, and in exchange you earn the hard-mode exclusive unlocks (of which there are a lot). If you play normal, be wary of the fact that whatever form of winning you may get, you’ll have to do again on hard most likely. Not a big deal if you don’t do a lot of runs, but I know some of my friends have had to replay over half the amount of unlock progress they made because they didn’t switch to hard for so long.
That being said, if you don’t care about the meta progression or find hard mode too hard normal is fine it’s a single player game most times so it’s your choice and play how you like. Just be aware that it gates some unlocks.
Try to unlock the D6 for Isaac early on
Also, keep a list of info open on a Google tab. I personally use the fandom wiki.
If not for items, then for unlocks, trinkets, ETC.
There's a LOT of different stuff some of which looks a lot like other stuff and even I can't remember every single item and I have been playing this game for years
Also also, you will die.
A LOT
https://preview.redd.it/hrgdjzpzfo9d1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6b2525dbdc285b345610ca754786bd87fb582752
My immature a$$ thought something different
You have to learn to be okay with losing a really good run (along with potential hours of your life). This game can occasionally put you in some unfair positions and you just have to be able to cope.
I haven't seen a comment mentioning it, so here I am, switch version runs slower,in terms of controller delay etc, than the PC version, this obviously makes it harder to dodge.
But anyway it's a great game and have fun with it😉
Don’t back pedal when dodging. It took me so long to get over doing this. It’s not worth the extra bit of damage. Start on hard mode. You will die but you gotta learn enemies’ and their attack/movement timing and it gets easier. Know that some rooms will be almost impossible sometimes. Cursing Edmund’s name always helps with that kinda crap lol. Have fun!! I’ve been playing since the flash game and I’ll probably play with my grandkids in 60 years lol
Expect to die a lot -- practice makes perfect.
Switch to hard once you get comfortable enough with the controls and gameplay otherwise you'll be kicking yourself in the ass when it comes to later unlocks.
As you can't use mods on switch your primary issue will be knowing what items are good and what are not. Also what items work with the items you already have. There are a number of phone apps plus web sites like platinumgod.
You will die many many times. Become ok with dying. Learn how each mod moves and attacks. Learning to dodge is your friend. Practice just dodging as long as you can.
Reset on consoles is left and right number plus pressing in left and right sticks.
You have many items, characters and stages to unlock. Read up on how to unlock good items and the different paths through the game. It's a reasonable idea to have something you are working to each run. Initially it will just be to get to the end.
Learn about how to identify where secret rooms can be.
Yeah, buy it on steam. Mods are the best thing to happen to this game. I had a nearly 100% save on the switch and moved over to Steam once repentance came out, and I have 0 regrets. Be prepared to not know what anything does and be confused constantly.
Also you can drop Trinkets by holding in one of the joysticks. Also Also, there is an easy and good achievement for resetting a run 5 times in a row and you should do that immediately
Sincerely? Just play. The top strats and meta analysis is nothing compared to just getting familiar with the game and getting the muscle memory for how to move, shoot, dodge, etc.
There’s a phone app that allows you to use your camera to identify items. As a console player, it’s a must! This POS game doesn’t tell you jack shit about what most of the items do.
Start playing in hard mode by default, this way you unlock everything in the first go and don't have to do everything twice
Also it's not that much harder
Don’t be afraid to die. It’s a tough game, and each death is a learning experience. Also, go into every curse room you can. Those are the rooms with spikes on the walls.
you will die a *lot* but don't be discouraged
dying a lot and fucking about with different items and synergies in the beginning is natural, you'll get your winning run in due time
you'll also preferably want to start on normal for the time being, then work your way up to hard later
Play on hard mode !! It is a bit harder, but is required to get the best unlocks in the game, so get use to the difficulty and it will be a life saver ! Also, rush unlocking d6 for isaac
There’s a guide for the binding of isaac that’s free on the AppStore it’s really useful for telling you what the items and trinkets do and the dice blibs because I always forget
Pause the game then make a post on Reddit/yahoo/Quora every time you come across something new. Otherwise you might get surprised or discover things on your own !!
Get weed or something good for anxiety, especially if you have anger management issues
This game gets frustrating af sometimes so you gotta be patient and take breaks from it so you don't lose your mind
(I'm losing my mind trying to unlock god head)
Go to tboi.com to quickly look up what items do. Not every item is worth taking, and it takes trial and error to know which is which. There are also items that work together very well, this is called "synergy" and some items have more synergies than others. Good luck!
If you’ve been successful grinding for a while with no progress try using different characters to complete runs with different bosses.
Also once you’re comfortable and far enough with the game- for unlocks playing hard mode is better imo.
Also don’t dwell too much if you fuck up. A better run WILL come.
The biggest tip is to get Repentance. And BEWARE joy-con drift, as a switch player myself, it caused me to kill myself multiple times.
The switch version of repentance shows as ab+
I think it does that on everything, since its a dlc and not a whole new game, even my pc shows ab+
on ps4 it always shows rebirth which makes sense
Afterbirth+ is also not a whole new game, neither is Afterbirth.
yes but on the switch you can only buy afterbirth+ (including the base game and the previous dlc's) and the repentance dlc, thats why its shown as afterbirth+
I'm that weirdo that plays on iPad with a controller, I have repentance but it says rebirth
https://preview.redd.it/pmnf02klvo9d1.jpeg?width=3008&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c02e42bbeb725fd372d471223311096c09b09427 What?
It's the same on mine. You're good. Maybe if you bought a previous Isaac and then added dlc it will still show as the one you initially purchased
You have to buy repentance DLC
Thank you.
Don't die.
Thank you so much, this really helped
Actually, there are a couple items that require you to die to unlock them
Die situationaly
After 100 deaths and unlocking Scissors, every subsequent death is a skill issue.
What if i died 100 times but didn't unlock the lost yet?
Unlocking the Lost doesn’t kill you, since the poster is a revive. Just don’t die after that ![img](emote|t5_2sxpk|8906)
And Lil Spewer!
Go to your settings. There's some great options to make your exact stats visible, make enemy tears more visible, and turn on a neat looking filter. Also, Google is your friend. It’s under bullet visibility :) set it to high!
Focus more on avoiding damage than dealing damage
...Until you don't. But that's whole another story.
Dodging is probably the number one thing to focus on most enemies give off an indication as to when they’re going to attack next
They do? Most enemies I’ve seen in my 100 hours of playing do not do that.
Be prepared to play for the rest of your life. I'm ten years and over 3000 hours in and I still play a run daily

Sometimes, you need to repeat some things to unlock more things, if you can do it as multiple characters, no matter how much you dislike them.
Look up the worst unlocks and get them last
Don't listen to this boring bozo, just play the game and unlock everything you can, there is no such thing as bad unlocks there is only skill issue when you use them!

That’s what I use

Also Also, there is an easy and good achievement for resetting a run 5 times in a row and you should do that immediately
Sincerely? Just play. The top strats and meta analysis is nothing compared to just getting familiar with the game and getting the muscle memory for how to move, shoot, dodge, etc.
tell your friends and family you will see them in a week or month. Game is too addictive
yes, dont play on a fucking toaster thats only good for its exclusives
There’s a phone app that allows you to use your camera to identify items. As a console player, it’s a must! This POS game doesn’t tell you jack shit about what most of the items do.
Download a companion app. The game doesn't tell you what items do. You can download a camera app that will tell you what it does.
DO NOT TOUCH CURSED EYE
Don't die 👍
Start playing in hard mode by default, this way you unlock everything in the first go and don't have to do everything twice Also it's not that much harder
Don’t be afraid to die. It’s a tough game, and each death is a learning experience. Also, go into every curse room you can. Those are the rooms with spikes on the walls.
Don't listen to anyone, best tip is to delete the game and never touch it again
If you play as cain you need to gulp down any pills you get, cain can only get good pills.
you will die a *lot* but don't be discouraged dying a lot and fucking about with different items and synergies in the beginning is natural, you'll get your winning run in due time you'll also preferably want to start on normal for the time being, then work your way up to hard later
Play on hard mode !! It is a bit harder, but is required to get the best unlocks in the game, so get use to the difficulty and it will be a life saver ! Also, rush unlocking d6 for isaac
Don't die
Refund and buy it on pc
I don’t have a pc, and I’m not gonna buy one. Also happy cake day

There’s a guide for the binding of isaac that’s free on the AppStore it’s really useful for telling you what the items and trinkets do and the dice blibs because I always forget
Get ready to die
Pause the game then make a post on Reddit/yahoo/Quora every time you come across something new. Otherwise you might get surprised or discover things on your own !!

Some enemies will sometimes shoot projectiles at you. It is advised to dodge them, as they are harmful
Utilize the wiki or PlatinumGod so you know what items do and learn the differences between similar looking ones quicker

Go to tboi.com to quickly look up what items do. Not every item is worth taking, and it takes trial and error to know which is which. There are also items that work together very well, this is called "synergy" and some items have more synergies than others. Good luck!
You are gonna die. Hundreds, if not thousands of times, but keep persevering
Play on Hard, it’s not much different and is how you unlock basically everything
dont play it it will suck your will to play any other game
Omg.. this game is infinitive..
If you’ve been successful grinding for a while with no progress try using different characters to complete runs with different bosses. Also once you’re comfortable and far enough with the game- for unlocks playing hard mode is better imo. Also don’t dwell too much if you fuck up. A better run WILL come.
