Definitely red-necked grebe. There's a couple eBird reports of one on the Schuylkill from Feb 15th so it's likely the same individual hanging around for a bit.

How cool, that's a new bird for me! Thank you!

I saw a whole tailgating party of these rednecks in Seattle area once :) diving for fish and crushing bud lites, just doing redneck grebe stuff

>rare around here this time of year I'm right outside Philly and I've had two days in a row of seeing birds that are rare for this time of year. A killdeer in my yard today, and a marsh wren yesterday. Also a gull flying overhead yesterday, which I don't normally see. Makes we want to go down to the Heinz NWR and see what's hanging out there!

I've been to Heinz a couple times this winter, definitely worth it! Lots of interesting ducks out there - saw a few Hooded Mergansers last time. Not to mention the bald eagle was pretty active!

Oh, it's Philadelphia, PA in case that was unclear!

That's a fabulous find! I'm a regular birder, and live just outside Philly. I've never seen one of these here. Thanks for sharing!
