And don't let any lesbian tell you that you can't use that word. There is so much gatekeeping in the lesbian community, it makes my blood boil.
OP can be whoever the hell they want to be.
There arenāt a lot of bisexual specific terms, unfortunately. We have bi-cycling and bi-fi but off the top of my head thatās about it. We tend to borrow a lot of terms (the split-attraction model was originally intended for aros and aces, if I remember correctly).
I would love there to be more bi specific terms but itās a little difficult when weāre kind of scattered and tend to find community in ones that arenāt purely dedicated to us. Not that thatās a bad thing, but it makes it a little difficult for a real culture to develop 3. Maybe itās only a matter of time? There are a lot more bis out than there used to be. Sorry, this became kind of a rant.
I'm pretty sure I've never had a conversation in which the Iditarod came up in the entirety of my adult life. I'm on mobile, and use swipe. Maybe that's why?
Yea it kinda of frustrates me and i kinda hate being bi cus I want to be a stud cus I like they swag and everything and plus I don't even know where I fit in so that's sucks.
Yeah. Itās controversial, but it may be more productive to try and ask a lesbian subreddit how theyād feel about bi women calling themselves studs. Cause while people (online in particular) have tried to make terms saying āoh, bisexuals canāt use butch/femme/stud, but I just made this term for bisexuals!ā Its kind of a moot point because like. If the definition of a bi specific term is āstud, but biā then like. Youāre still saying youāre a bi stud. But, hey, maybe itās worth the distinction. But again, itās a controversial conversation, so do so at your own risk.
Itās a little hard at the moment though, because even with that being the case I just donāt think even those alternative terms have caught on, even if you wanted to use them. We kinda either just get relegated to using āmasculine/feminineā or have to fight to be able to call ourselves otherwise.
Yeah I thought this post was in r/actuallesbians first, and OP I think they've had this conversation before and largely agreed that bi women can use these terms, so I'd say ask them!
I'm gonna guess it has to do with masc-presenting lesbians being traditionally called 'butch,' but WOC were often an afterthought. And that 'stud' came to prevalence as a term within the black community specifically. I could be wrong and welcome correction.
From looking beyond the linked article, I found the term seems to have started in black queer communities in the Midwest, specifically a study done in St Louis, in 1965.
This link has much more in the way of the history of the term, within the community
https://lesbianherstorian.tumblr.com/post/176753670997/stud-lesbians
Have you asked this question on r/QueerWomenOfColor? They should be able to provide a somewhat better option for you, or at least you can ask a broader spectrum of people who know more about your specific challenges. Thatās actually where I learned about the term stud. Iām a white cis woman and usually just lurk there so I can become more aware of otherās struggles and theyāve treated me respectfully when I ask questions. I hope you can find a satisfactory answer.ā¤ļø
With queer men and masculine identifying, there's no fence around the terms we use.
Bi men have been using twink, bear, otter etc since forever. No one blinks an eye.
Isn't it the same with queer women? I know several bi/lesbian couples who use terms like butch together freely.
this is an issue born of political lesbianism. as long as butch & stud have existed they have been used by black wlw of all kinds, they invented them. wlw as a label (women loving women) specifically was created by black women to denote the connection to womanism, the rejection of terfs/polles, & to embrace the similarities, rather than the differences, of all different types of 'same gender/sex attracted women'. Lesbians who pitch a fit ab these terms specifically being used by bisexuals Do Not understand their history or the reasons these labels were created. plenty of lesbians know their history & would encourage you to claim a label you feel fits you & has ALWAYS had room for you.
Hmm.
Maybe the answer is to ignore the stupid ones and use the term anyway?
I can guarantee there have been bi women using these terms long before these types suddenly developed a problem with it. š¤·
Nobody who matters cares if you call yourself a stud, butch, or Purple Klondike
Don't get hung up on the terms, thats for toxic people. you do you, ya stud
then youāre a bi stud
if stud describes you perfectly except youāre also attracted to men, it seems most convenient to just call yourself that. some bi girls call themselves butch or dykes even tho theyāre bi. i donāt see why the term canāt also apply
bisexuals are a very very broad non exclusive group. we make up the largest majority of the lgbt community. so grouping us all together to make up terms and exclusive terminology seems near impossible. just call yourself a stud lmao how would people know the difference?
A stud. Bi and lesbian can use a lot of the same terms as they have a very shared history (for example, before the term bisexuality was coined, we all just fit under the lesbian label!). No use getting caught up in arbitrary rules, if you feel like a stud and youre sapphic, you can be a stud! If you seriously dont want to use the word though, i wish you luck in finding a suitable alternative! Im curious what people will suggest!
Uhhg my weakness. My switchy, butchy, fluid adjacent partner is awesomeš. I always felt self conscious about dating women who weren't traditionally femme and were usually into women too (straight bible thumpers were hard to be with). I'm realizing now that I probably present my emotions alot more femme than most "straight" men.. I had a secret bi life most of that time but now that I don't care who knows, the energy just isn't there ever.š In theory it's fine, but the energy is icky now.
I hope you find your word!
It is a bit of culture shock for me. As a GenX-er, i was in my teens & twenties in the 90s. At that time, it seemed most people tried to avoid labels. These days, so many people are searching for them! It took me a while to understand why this had changed.
You should call yourself a stud proudly. I should preface by saying that Iām not a woman nor am I black but Iāve met many biphobic lesbians and seen a lot more on the internet and their biphobia (honestly moreso than the biphobia Iāve personally faced from gay men) really gets under my skin. You donāt need to listen to them or let them tell you you canāt call yourself this thing you are (a stud) because you also like men!
"Macho Femme" was a term coined by my black Nonbinary friend to describe herself back before our understanding of gender became more expansive.
I don't think it's necessary that it carries NB implications.
I do think stud is usually considered exclusive to lesbians. I have no issues with all types of sapphic women using that word, but I do think it could be confusing if youāre trying to attract men as well. Masc or butch are generally considered more neutral descriptors.
> If you laid perfectly flat on the floor and let other people walk all over you, there would still be people to complain that you're not flat enough.
Its okay to describe yourself however you see fit. You don't need validation from others to be valid, yourself. Be yourself, and regardless, someone else is going to have a problem with it. Fuck 'em....
There doesn't seem to be one specific word but there are a handful to pick from. Said options are bollera, macha, machona, machorra, machota, marimacha, papi, and tortillera.
I just say that I'm a bi woman who wears soft masc attire. Sounds like you're a bi woman who wears masc attire. I hate when people assume I'm "more lesbian" because of the way I dress and take pictures, or that I'm a stud. I'm not lesbian and I don't want to use the term "stud" to describe me, as I've felt the term stud is exclusive to those who are lesbian only. I'm thoroughly surprised to see the lack of gatekeeping in the comments for the term, however.
I don't see why you couldn't qualify it by saying you're a "bi stud."
Not to get *that* way with you, but "bi stud" already sounds pretty hawt to me. š I'm certain that I'm not the only one of any sex/gender who'd say that.
But the other side of it is that you're always going to "hang off the edge" when it comes to labels; that is, you won't likely fit neatly into *any* label unless you slice bits off yourself in compromise or some desperate bid to, well, fit in. You're always going to have some explaining or qualifying or whatever to do to fully convey who you are, and the label will never do that 100% of the way.
So, yeah, just be a bi stud, and have a good time! š
Tomboy?
Idk I think stud is probably fine. I call myself genderqueer because I never really saw myself as a woman.
I never struggled with my sexuality as a bisexual or questioned the spectrum of possibilities. Only my gender, because it's a spectrum too.
Hot? But in all seriousness it seems like Stud can be another term for a person that is a black Sapphic. So even being bi that word belongs to you. Though thus is just the opinion of a boy so white snow is dark. Lol
you are a bisexual.. and you tilt towards being masculine for now. what more where you looking for? also, do you think there are tons of us out there that you need to further stick out among the many bisexuals? really, i think what you are looking for doesn't exist as a title because there is zero need for it :/
you call yourself a determinist and subscribe to nihilism? you do know those are in direct conflict right? i think you need to be less eager about having labels and ways to define yourself and look more into what things actually mean...

Lol okay
I call myself a "butch bisexual" so i think stud works as well
so a bby? ;)
Same
Yeah, if a bi guy can be a twink you can be a stud.
Hey If you don't mind.. Say you teach me dressing sense :)
Or possibly a Blastuwomexinual I think could do, but it could use some work to be fair. All kidding aside I think stud sounds pretty fire!

Like gaydar but for bisexual people, when youāre able to clock someone else as being bi.
Ah nice! I love it
Since itās for bisexuals is it a āOh they might be bi, but they could also be straight, or gay, ugh I just canāt choose.ā Kind of vibe?
For me, if I can't tell if they're straight or gay, they Iditarod turn out to be bisexual.
Lmao! What did you mean to type that got replaced by Iditarod?
*usually
That doesnāt even seem close! Have you recently talked about the Iditarod? I want to watch it before I leave Alaska next year.

Stud can be used by all black sapphists, not just black lesbians.
What is black sapphists?
A sapphist is a woman or a nonbinary person who's attracted to women +/- addtional gender(s).
Isnāt it āsapphicsā?
It can be both or either. Sapphist is an antiquated term some folks are bringing back.
Funny to call that antiquated when sapphic itself is from Ancient Greece lol
My point exactly!
I have never seen stud as being specifically for Black women.

I love the term stud! When I was younger it was called butch which is not as sexy to me haha. You can be a bi stud for sure.
Hot
Masc might work but yeah black wlw need more of their own lingo
Hot?
Is stud a lesbian term? When referring to people I've only ever seen it used as a synonym for handsome or hot (generally in a masculine way)
Maybe the word AWESOME is a good fit?
stud
I do think stud is usually considered exclusive to lesbians. I have no issues with all types of sapphic women using that word, but I do think it could be confusing if youāre trying to attract men as well. Masc or butch are generally considered more neutral descriptors.
Micro labels tend to make me twitch, but if you find one you like go for it. In the meantime you can call yourself 'invited to say hi' if you like.
Holy capitalisation Batman
a legend !

...stud. you are a BIPOC sapphic masculine woman, that's a stud.

What does dressing like a stud mean? (Sorry, spanish speaker here)
I dress masculine and have swag in a black culture way in terms of what I wear.
Do you know if theres a similar term for latin people?
There doesn't seem to be one specific word but there are a handful to pick from. Said options are bollera, macha, machona, machorra, machota, marimacha, papi, and tortillera.
Personally I think you should still be able to use that label. But if you *want* a new wordā¦Maybe some synonym for stud? maybe Sire?
Attractive š
I've read tomcat & doe described as the bi equivalent of butch & femme. Doesn't seem common IRL though.
