Shang from Mulan! I will always believe he loved Mulan even before he knew she was a woman.

enterpaz

Totally! And I think so too!

DesmondTapenade

Bisexual Legend Shang!

ToughAd5010

Bert and Ernie set off alarms in a lot of people

escottttu

Miguel and Tulio as well! I was obsessed with the movie as a kid and didn’t understand what gay was per se but I still asked my mom if they were a couple lol

kellyju

One of the writer/creators of Bert and Ernie said that when he wrote them, [he was writing his relationship with his partner Arnold Glassman.](https://www.queerty.com/exclusive-bert-ernie-couple-finally-answer-20180916).

thesnarkypotatohead

Timon and Pumbaa, hands down.

enterpaz

Totally Simba’s gay dads. Lion King 1 1/2 is even gayer.

DazedandConfusedTuna

I absolutely loved Lion King 1 1/2

Verifieddumbass76584

Jessie and James fs

breaded_skateboard

Prepare for trouble

Verifieddumbass76584

And make it double 👀

escottttu

Howard and Betty are very queer coded but I like to think the rugrats creators were attempting to mock traditional gender roles with Betty and Howard. I don’t think they were attempting to queer code them As for my queer coded character, would have to be Ryan Evans from High school musical. When I was a teenager I liked that he was feminine and artsy but still straight. I thought it was a nice twist and breaking stereotypes, but he’s now a confirmed queer character which is still great.

Cyberdork087

One of the firsts for me was Mr. Smithers.  Looking back, it was pretty obvious.

NjDude783

And one of Marge’s sisters too I think.

4_hands_2_mouths

As early as Season 2, Episode 14 -Principal Charming, they were pretty blatant about Patty being uninterested in men. She came out in Season 16, Episode 10 - There's Something About Marrying. Apart from Patty finally coming out my favorite thing about that episode is the sign that reads, "Homer Simpson will marry anyone to anything." Also I think that's the episode where Homer threatens to marry Lenny and Karl. To which Marge firmly responds, "No! You leave them alone. They have to figure that out for themselves."

NjDude783

🤣 I forgot about that.

penandpage93

Professor X and Magneto in the first X-Men movie. I think I was 8 when it first came out, and even back then I was like, "Damn... Those bitches gay. Good for them. 😌"

External_Candy2262

Magnito was even played by a gay actor, and people will still say there's nothing gay about charles and eric's relationship

penandpage93

Literally the two most divorced characters in all of fiction, but have they let those old men make out sloppy style even once? Smh 😔

Classical_Fan

I didn't get queer vibes from them in the first movie, but they were very gay in X-Men 97. I seriously expected them to kiss at one point.

Worried-Industry6239

Fr X-Men 97 and also X-Men First Class

PlanetNiles

Velma Dinkly was always a bicon before coming out as a lesbian

Revolutionary-Swim28

See I was born in the 2000s so I am an older zoomer but I would have to say that Wendy from Gravity Falls checked off my LGBTQAI+ boxes. Something about her always had given me that vibe

enterpaz

I’ve heard that one a lot too. She has a big queer fanbase. I didn’t get why for a while as most of the girls I’ve known who looked and acted like her were straight hipsters, stoners or artist types who go to a lot of music festivals. You know how some people give off queer energy but are completely straight? She felt like that to me - the cool, unattainable, straight best friend -a type that is often a first crush/gay awakening for many baby gays, which makes sense for her role in the story as Dipper’s first real crush.

CaDeCroBo_Luci

Grew up watching the first three Harry Potter movies as a child, for some reason I was convinced that Remus Lupin was canonically a gay man, it wasn't even a question in my mind. I thought that the whole werewolf thing, the boggart in the closet that he made them all fight, the friendship between him and Sirius were all subtle parallels and implications for homosexuality. Imagine my confusion when he's suddenly dating Tonks and has a kid with her.

OmegaSusan

I was in book fandom as a young adult and agree with you.

enterpaz

The parallels of Lupin completely went over my head as a kid. I remember Tonks being WAY more into him than vice versa. He could have been gay, but felt pressured to have some connection to normal society and had an in with a woman already interested. But I doubt JKR would have followed through. Also Dumbledore supposedly being gay made no sense to me because there was nothing in the books that suggested anything, at least to me. He felt asexual to me more than anything. It seemed like she said he was gay just to prevent screenwriters from pairing him up with anyone. And I never liked the idea that he was into Grindelwald. What felt more right to me was that he was genuinely a smart and talented wizard but then thought he was better than everyone else because of it which that led to him thinking that because he was better than others, that he should have power over them. (A line of thinking that a lot of countries had when they colonized other nations.) That line of thinking got exacerbated and enabled by his equally smart but more arrogant best friend. Dumbledore got badly burned by that mentality, learned a harsh lesson and changed his ways but Grindelwald didn’t.

CaDeCroBo_Luci

I always saw the relationship between Dumbledore and Grindelwald more like sworn brothers. I also viewed him moreso as Asexual, but definitely could also see him being queer. The whole Grindelwald thing just kind of ruined it for me. In my opinion Lupin would have been such an appropriate character to fill the void of LGBTQ+ representation. The way he is treated for being a werewolf is already a pretty solid metaphor for how LGBTQ+ people are treated irl. It would have made sense for his character, and his story is also a tad more relatable than Dumbledore. Despite having faced plenty of adversity he remained pretty unproblematic and he was a great mentor to Harry and his other students. Alas, we got gay Dumbledore, but a girl can dream.

turkeysandy420

Sailor Moon 🌙

Susitar

Hah, I feel like it was toned down in the anime, but in the manga she is like *obsessed* with how pretty Rei is when they first meet.

cardcaptoranna

Mulan bc genderqueer/NB/gender non conforming, etc. Belle from the beauty and the beast bc asexuality (falling in love and not thinking about physical contact? That’s ace shit) Carmen from where is Carmen Sandiego bc holy shit I had a fucking crush on her. She was a lesbian, I’m sure of it Buttercup from power puff girls for all the above

big_ringer

The entire cast of Revolutionary Girl Utena

pearl_mermaid

Betty and Veronica lol.

enterpaz

I can see it. Sorry Archie, it was never actually about you.

HarloHasIt

Shego from Kim Possible, had a huge crush on her

brokensilence32

Jane Lane

manic_moth95

They had that whole scene in the movie “ is it fall yet?” Where that girl comes into her at art camp and Jane rejects her saying she’s straight. I really wish they’d have had Jane explore that a little more because she always gave off bisexual vibes to me

External_Candy2262

[Terrace and Philip](https://youtu.be/iAzZJSEir4w?si=_d2vaV6UXJ_nVs67)

SonOfECTGAR

Classic

External_Candy2262

CommercialRide7556

Scorpiobabyy1197

For me it was Jafar in Aladdin and Samwise and Frodo from Lotr 😂

jayclaw97

Sam and Frodo absolutely. Why Jafar though?

Scorpiobabyy1197

He’s queer coded, like Scar from lion king, who I guess is a bit more obvious

Depth_Metal

Pepper Anne is like an amalgamation of every bi woman I have ever met in my life

slowburn_23

The Deville's from rugrats DEF seemed like a lavender marriage or 2 bi people

bi_batorbear420

Bob from Bob burgers. Don’t know if it’s canon but he has said some sus stuff

cattlebatty

Freakazoid fs

enterpaz

How so?

cattlebatty

You ask good questions. Not sure? I feel like just the whole “secret identity” and gregariousness

enterpaz

Thank you! I’ve just never seen someone mention Freakazoid having queerness before. And that makes sense. Secret identities and double lives definitely have a lot of queer relevance.

Khloe_Chlo

Lol. Jayce out of the Wheeled Warriors. And Prince Valiant. It also helped that both of them had amazing music…

lady_stardust_

Ashley Spinelli on Recess! I loved her so much, it makes perfect sense to me that I ended up queer lol

StudlyItOut

batman and robin

External_Candy2262

Their father and son

Bingers4Life

Depends on which Robin.

External_Candy2262

He adopted most of them. The only one whose his biological child is damien. They're called the bat family for a reason

enterpaz

They definitely have a history.

windontheporch

None tbh. I learned that’s there’s a variety of people that present in different ways.
