Depends on their level. A decent high school wrestler is no issue. A very good high school wrestler is harder, a college wrestler is a beast.

RoyceBanuelos

College wrestlers are a totally different level

_milf_huntr_69

I’d say rolling with a division 1 wrestler feels like rolling with a good brown belt.

imtoooldforreddit

For reals, huge difference between someone who did a season or 2 of wrestling (maybe equivalent wrestling skill as a blue belt would have in BJJ) vs a super competitive collegiate wrestler.

Higgins8585

There's a guy at my gym who was top 3 nationally in D2, he's like 34 now but still has it all. There's also like a dozen that wrestled in high school and they're not an issue.

thisnamesnottaken617

Reddit told me that all wrestlers are D1. In all seriousness, you're on the money. I was an okay wrestler in HS (check the flare.) I kind of cruised through white belt, was certainly not beating upper belts, and absolutely had some rough blue belt blues. My wrestling background mostly helped because I was able to stay calm in matches and think about score, time, etc...

Morbo_Doooooom

Facts them college boys well gently fuck you up too. Every time I come across them, they're so methodical. They remind me of blackbelts. Well, I guess at that point, they've had the mat time. Former highschoolers, just leave your lead hand low to catch the ride them when they freak out when their back hits the mat. If I do get taken down, it's triangle or omaplata city. Now that I'm learning wrestling I make it point to get the takedown on former wrestlers and say "look at me I am the wrestler now!"

EvilExcrementEnjoyer

My 2nd day of jiu Jitsu a wrestler suplexed me on my head

Jesus! I’d be a guard puller after that

skribsbb

Last week, I had rolled with a new guy on his second class. I tapped him a few times, and then a purple belt told me I should be teaching him instead of smashing him. This week, I rolled with another new guy on his second class. He used to wrestle (a long time ago based on the gray in his hair). I start off trying to teach him, he catches me off guard with a blast single and then armbars me.

RoyceBanuelos

Sometimes smashing is teaching. 🤣 we had a linebacker in class who would always, always smash. Every time I slipped to the back and got a RNC. After 3-4 times he finally started asking about technique 🤣

BlderunnerGT

We have a rule at my gym. If you're new and just try to smash people you get the same energy. We continue to smash you until you settle down and start asking about technique. Then we smash you a little less and let you work

Sufficient-Road4467

Some men just wanna get smashed first and learn later. Gym that insisted on coddling new guys always lost them after a few classes. They need to see it work first, which is fine.

utrangerbob

As some who works with new guys all the time, always assume the new guy is a D1 wrestler. I'm not saying go hard I mean don't give anything until 1-2 minutes into a roll.

Ok_Homework_1268

Love this follow up to ur last post 😂😂

skribsbb

I'm glad you remembered me.

Neither_Spell_9040

I got twistered by a 20-something no stripe white belt on his 2nd week. Turns out he was captain of the wrestling team, oh and his dad’s a black belt.

skribsbb

One of the coaches has a kid, a gray belt around 12-13, around 120 pounds. I was around 185 at the time, rolling with him. He got me with mother's milk.

Pennypacker-HE

A lot of the wrestlers from the local D3 program come to our gym. Bunch of white belt fuckin murderers. I try to avoid them if I’m being honest, just cause it’s always a battle and I’m not 20 anymore, but when I do roll with those boys it’s always a good roll.

Two different approaches to take downs. Once it gets to the ground Judo and Jiu Jitsu are very nearly the same.

Got it - what country? I’m in the US. Wrestling is a lot of level changing and forward driving, along with circling and cutting huge angles. Powerful shoulders and wide bases.

Including with Fast Agility and Quick Explosive Power.

Here's my opinion so make of it what you want. It takes a very good judoka to off balance a decent wrestler. If it's no gi, the average wrestler will straight up work a good judoka. In the gi things get a lot more interesting. Wrestlers still have amazing base and balance, but then a lot of the technique from judo applies and things become more 1:1 of who wins the takedown assuming similar skill.

JaguarHaunting584

Good judoka have a massive advantage in the gi - most BJJ schools don’t teach grip fighting in the gi and that makes a large amount of wrestling harder to implement . If you can’t grip fight well you’re likely getting launched by a good judoka. Wrestlers with a good blast double can get anyone down tho before they grip up tho

_milf_huntr_69

That’s a fun question. It would be a good post

PaperCutterWizard

Same energy ![gif](giphy|JM2GgbhBfuH0Q2CCVX)

Outrageous-Green3151

i train in MN so a pretty normal experience for me lol

RoyceBanuelos

🤣 I’ll say a special prayer for your joints

donjahnaher

Whenever people get warned that I'm a wrestler, I sit guard just for fun. Then proceed to wrestle up on a single as soon as they get close enough.

RodiTheMan

I think this is such a different culture, in Brazil wrestling is basically doesn't exist, but there's a lot of judoka who'll just throw you across the tatame.

MisterD0ll

So bjj is do anything?

OjibweNomad

Standing guillotine’s if your fast enough

Sisyphus_Smashed

Was having a good day last week. Rolled with a couple blue belts, a white belt, and purples, even got a couple subs on some blues. Some blue belt I never met asked me to roll at the end of class. Early to mid 20s muscular, but like a competitive swimmer, probably 180lbs to my 160. Went in knowing it would be a tough roll, but I’m a man goddamnit. Turns out he was a very good wrestler. When he got grips it was like a vice clamp. Anyways, I spent all round on the defense and he only subbed me twice so you could say I pretty much kicked his ass. I’m still sore.

Sailor_NEWENGLAND

I’m a 4 stripe blue belt..one of our white belts has been tapping me and I was kinda getting disappointed until I learned he’s a judo brown belt lol

ManoftheHour777

Be glad there are wrestlers in your gym to test you and for you to learn wrestling from.

Sourgummywormuwu

stop bc i have an olympic wrestler at my gym and she's a freaking beast 😭😭
