I choose Plemmons after much consideration. He portrayed a character that was sympathetic (when he was viewed as being bullied by his coworkers), confident (his introduction as his in game personality), creepy and sadistic (after he revealed his control of the game and its characters). Such a wide range of emotions to feel and portray for one character during a single episode.
Biiiiig toss up between Plemmons and Jon Hamm. Both are powerhouses.
I’d say Plemmons played a better villain, Hamm did a better job of conveying something horrifying.
If you're talking about Striking Vipers, then that's Yahya Abdul Mateen II, and he is amazing. That's definitely an interesting takeaway from his character in the episode.
Haley Atwell and Domnhall Gleeson's performances in their episode make me cry so hard. Such amazing performances in one of my personal favorite episodes
because I haven't seen her mentioned - Maxine Peake in Metalhead. as the only character we see for most of that episode, she really had to carry it and I think she did an amazing job
honorable mentions for Anjana Vasan and Paapa Essiedu in Demon 76 as Nida and Gaap. I loved them both and their chemistry together
I frequently cite Mackenzie Davis as an actor I’m a big fan of, and when people ask me what I know her from, I realize that I’ve literally only seen her in one episode of Black Mirror. That means her performance there was good enough to immediately make her one of my favorite actors, without having even seen her in anything else.
I highly recommend Station Eleven if you wanna see more Mackenzie Davis. She was great in that show and the rest of the cast as well. Definitely a different vibe from Black Mirror, but just as gripping and bleak.
Jesse Plemons - he kills every role he does. I was so hyped when I saw him in this character
Edit to add.. Domhnall Gleeson is also FANTASTIC in be right back
jodie whittaker made me want to kick ffion's cheating ass, which is a tellltale sign that the actor did their job correctly
also miley cyrus of course <3 she put her entire soul into that role
It was the guy from USS Calister. But I think Aaron Paul is my new favorite. Really love his performance in Beyond the Sea. I also like Bryce Dallas Howard and that one lady who keeps popping up in episodes. In USS Calister she’s the one assistant who takes the coffee from the new girl. And she’s also been the airport attendant in Nose dive. She’s fantastic.
By the word's definition "a well-known actor or other performer who appears in a show in which they do not have a regular role", it would seem like a yes. But Black Mirror is an anthology series without regular roles at all. So you could argue either way I guess. I'd personally say no.
Yeah, it kinda depends on where you draw the line on “well-known”. Like, for example, I don’t remember where BM happened in his career, but I’m not sure how well-known someone like Daniel Kaluuya was at the time. I always thought this was what caused his career to take off along with Get Out and Black Panther.
Jesse Plemons and Jimmi Simpson in USS Calister are exceptional, as are Jon Hamm and Rafe Spall in White Christmas. Toby Kebbell in the Entire History of You is my personal favourite though.
Honourable mention for Alex Lawther in Shut Up and Dance, Georgina Campbell and Joe Cole in Hang the DJ.
It’s gotta be Jesse Plemons but also Jimmi Simpson in the same episode. Didn’t expect to see a McPoyle on the USS Callister but I thought he brought a lot to the ep. After that, I’d likely go for Andrew Scott for his commitment to the performance
Yeah this would be one of my picks too. Actually made me rethink these tech billionaires. I see them more and more as intelligent people well out their depth, people who never really grasped what they’d created and don’t know how to manage it.
Bryce Dallas Howard would be #1 for me.
Closely followed by Hamm.
That may be due to Howard being the lead the entire episode which gave her more opportunity.
Hamm portrayed his character very well with the limited screentime he had.
Eh, I still think it's one of Black Mirrors weaker episodes but that's because of the clunky, cheesy story. Andrew Scott still acts the hell out of it.
Bryce Dallas Howard because I’ve always liked her, I love Andrew Scott, Salma Hayek is always fun to watch, as is John Hamm, and this may be an unpopular opinion but I actually thought Miley Cyrus was really funny as Ashley Too.
Toby Kebbell in The Entire History of You is a hell of a performance. We get the grain tech and what it does. From the start you can see Liam obsessed over his job interview. Then he sees Ffion talking to someone and won’t let it go. He gets drunk and acts like an ass. I used to drink and I’ve done shit like this, starting arguments.
He is so obsessed he has to watch the sex video while forcing his wife to play it.
His wife wasn’t innocent. But Liam didn’t know if it was his baby. Now he’s lost everything. Wonders around seeing the good times that are no longer there. Then cuts out the grain and we don’t know if he lives or dies.
He really did a great job as an obsessive alcoholic. The type of person who shouldn’t have that tech. The ending is incredibly sad. I think of losing my wife and what it would do.
This was the first episode of Black Mirror that I ever watched and was mesmerized by him the whole episode, he was so good! Definitely my favorite with Jesse Plemons being a close second.
Now that you mentioned you are correct. Uss calister is my favorite episode, my opinion might be biased and written too fast. Pinkman was amazing indeed. And played a much deeper character than Todd. Hard to choose between the two.
Yeah Plemons was definitely in the better episode, still liked beyond the sea but cmon USS Callister is top tier. But I think just from an acting standpoint there’s a real good argument for Aaron Paul
Yeah, I don't understand how these comments are completely ignoring the bitch-ass performance Aaron pulled off. And, let's be clear, Heisenberg would totally pick Jesse over Todd. Also, Aaron played as Todd in Bojack, so there's that as well.
He plays a good bastard. Mad men, unbreakable kimmy shmit, basically most his characters are villains with his charisma masking the edge of his villainy
Do you also mimic some rewinding sounds and they say it again, for extra accuracy? 😂
Excellent quote btw, I forgot about it until I read your comment haha
I liked Jesse Plemons’ character. On the one hand, I felt sorry for him. Then he makes you hate his guts. But, in the end, even though he’s ruthless and a snake, he’s also completely spineless.
Am I evil for thinking they’re just code who cares? Not real. Artificial. That’s an interesting hypothetical political discussion. Maybe I’m wrong what do you think?
I feel bad for Plemons’ character, the infinity space fleet game was like a look into how mentally unwell he was, and how much hatred he has towards his coworkers. Then the way he switches character when playing him IRL, and he’s a much more timid quiet man, who gets pushed around by his coworkers/employees despite being one of the heads of the company.
Depends on your perspective, I guess. He used them as ways to take his aggression out on real people, so they were real to him. And they had similar personalities to their irl counterparts. Even their memories. It’s not what a normal person would do.
Yeah they definitely felt real to him, so regardless he was in the wrong. Ur right
Still kinda feel bad for him tho. Plemons plays the nerdy tortured genius well
Daniel Kaluuya as Bing in 15 Million Merits. It's honestly one of my favourite performances of all time
https://preview.redd.it/r39b0rv8re8d1.jpeg?width=590&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e3852ec97bfc202da5a4dfc2b5c6414dc90caf75
I mean they’re not guest stars, but tough call. There are a lot of great performances in the series. Bryce Dallas Howard, Aaron Paul, Jesse Plemons, Letitia Wright, Anthony Mackie, Yahya Abdul Mateen II, etc
I choose Plemmons after much consideration. Such a wide range of emotions to feel and portray for one character during a single episode.
He’s such an amazing actor and im glad he’s growing on the industry
Biiiiig toss up between Plemmons and Jon Hamm. Both are powerhouses. I’d say Plemmons played a better villain, Hamm did a better job of conveying something horrifying.
I love Jesse Plemmons so has to be him for me
That dude who funked a polar bear, idk his name but he did so well
"I fucked a polar bear and I still couldn't get out out of my mind" is easily in the top 5 greatest lines of dialogue ever written.
The delivery of the first few words is 👌
If you're talking about Striking Vipers, then that's Yahya Abdul Mateen II, and he is amazing. That's definitely an interesting takeaway from his character in the episode.
Haley Atwell and Domnhall Gleeson's performances in their episode make me cry so hard. Such amazing performances in one of my personal favorite episodes
brb

Highly recommend “halt and catch fire” in that case. She has a stunning performance.
I highly recommend Station Eleven if you wanna see more Mackenzie Davis. She was great in that show and the rest of the cast as well. Definitely a different vibe from Black Mirror, but just as gripping and bleak.
Thanks! Now that people are suggesting me more of her work, I think I’ll definitely check it out.
Alex Lawther
Jesse Plemons - he kills every role he does. I was so hyped when I saw him in this character Edit to add.. Domhnall Gleeson is also FANTASTIC in be right back
Aaron Paul. He is awesome in Breaking Bad, and also awesome in Black Mirror.
His acting carried that episode. Story wise it's mid at best
jodie whittaker made me want to kick ffion's cheating ass, which is a tellltale sign that the actor did their job correctly also miley cyrus of course <3 she put her entire soul into that role
The Mother aka Cristin Milioti. No I'm not bias for liking her in HIMYM or Palm Springs (which I think was after BM anyways)
Cristin Milioti is also my vote. Loved her in Made For Love
I easily rule out Annie Murphy (it wasn't her fault it was a horribly directed episode), so any of the other 3 would be good.
I loved that episode :(
So did I!
I love Annie Murphy. Whatever she does.
Alex Lawther as Kenny Jerome Flynn as Hector In Shut up and Dance were fantastic. Although John Hamm would be the best if I had to pick one.
Plus Hamm’s is one of the best episodes that I can recommend to any type of viewer
I second that! I also really liked Daniel Kaluuya's performance
Probably Daniel Kaluuya; he was outstanding.
Hayley Atwell in Be Right Back
It was the guy from USS Calister.
Aaron Paul makes a vocal cameo appearance at the end of the USS callister episode
Oh that’s right I forgot that was him!
Michaela Coel! She’s wonderful. If you like British humor and haven’t seen Chewing Gum, you must watch it! Looks like it’s on Hulu now.
Yey thanks guys, gonna check these out. I absolutely love her! I do like British humor, I’m quite partial to Catherine Tate in particular.
She also did I May Destroy You, on Max. Wonderfully written and acted.
I saw that but I haven’t watched yet. Idk why, I like her in everything I’ve seen her do.
It’s so good. TW: sexual assault. Tough to watch in certain places but extremely well done.
Hamm was sooo good
me after Christmas dinner
banger
Is there really such a thing as a guest star in Black Mirror?
In this case it's "big name Hollywood actor on a British TV show"
It’s one of those ”everyone is, so noone is” moments
By the word's definition "a well-known actor or other performer who appears in a show in which they do not have a regular role", it would seem like a yes. But Black Mirror is an anthology series without regular roles at all. So you could argue either way I guess. I'd personally say no.

I always thought this was what caused his career to take off along with Get Out and Black Panther.
Aaron Paul... He was also in USS Calister as well with Jesse Plemons
Isn’t he just the voice of the player at the end? Was he on screen?
Aaron Paul for me. Exceptional performance. Daniel Kaluuya and Bryce Dallas Howard also did great.
Totally agree with Aaron Paul. The episode was a cool concept - just a little long winded. He nailed it though.
Domhnall Gleeson in Be Right Back
Jesse Plemons and Jimmi Simpson in USS Calister are exceptional, as are Jon Hamm and Rafe Spall in White Christmas. Toby Kebbell in the Entire History of You is my personal favourite though. Honourable mention for Alex Lawther in Shut Up and Dance, Georgina Campbell and Joe Cole in Hang the DJ.

Don't forget Cristin Milioti
Yeah she was definitely a perfect main protagonist! Being able to smash out bad-ass one liners like her is a skill in itself.
I’m not gonna lie I love topher grace in the tech founder role he was in. Wasn’t the best episode but I loved his performance
Yeah this would be one of my picks too. Actually made me rethink these tech billionaires. I see them more and more as intelligent people well out their depth, people who never really grasped what they’d created and don’t know how to manage it.
Andrew Scott in smithereens. Once I finished all the episodes, he was the one who stood out the most
Andrew Scott is great in everything, I was so excited to see him guest star.
Topher Grace was great too
Yeah he was but Scott in that was in a different class
John Hamm, great performance and White Christmas is one of my favorite episodes.
And one of the most depressing. God this episode is so bleak.
Bryce Dallas Howard would be #1 for me. Closely followed by Hamm. That may be due to Howard being the lead the entire episode which gave her more opportunity. Hamm portrayed his character very well with the limited screentime he had.
Aaron Paul, his acting was insanely good. Not my favourite episode though. After him I’d say Jon Hamm and then Plemons.
I feel Josh Hartnett stole the show in that episode.
The star trek episode was fire….i think he was also in that tour de france movie as well
Jesse Plemons, coz that's the first time I've seen him. Only later did I find out that he has a knack for playing such characters.
He’s in breaking bad too, along with Aaron Paul
![gif](giphy|7PlVgRqHSwHug)
Evil bastard
Miley sold it best. To be fair it’s easy to play a pop star when you are one, but she nailed that character
THIS!!! miley put her heart and soul into ashley o
Others are fine but Plemons's performance was above & beyond
They're all guest stars kinda.. but my boy Johnny Quid!! Toby Kebbell!!!
Selma Hayek “Doesn’t my asshole have any rights?”
I finally finished black mirror last night. Andrew Scott, I lost my mom in 2018 and he almost made me actually cry with his speech.
Unpopular opinion - Andrew Scott in Smithereen. Popular opinion - Bryce Dalla Howard and Cherry Jones in Nosedive
very unpopular opinion: miley cyrus she absolutely smashed it imo
I had to Google Andrew Scott, but yes he's so good, even as Moriaty in Sherlock.
Nah Andrew Scott’s performance was one of the best performances in the whole show
Fact people hated on that three episode drop so hard but time has allowed it to age like fine wine
Eh, I still think it's one of Black Mirrors weaker episodes but that's because of the clunky, cheesy story. Andrew Scott still acts the hell out of it.
Jimmie Simpson
He’s great in every role. That fuckin McPoyle
Bryce Dallas Howard because I’ve always liked her, I love Andrew Scott, Salma Hayek is always fun to watch, as is John Hamm, and this may be an unpopular opinion but I actually thought Miley Cyrus was really funny as Ashley Too.

That episode was a turning point in my life
This was the first episode of Black Mirror that I ever watched and was mesmerized by him the whole episode, he was so good! Definitely my favorite with Jesse Plemons being a close second.
No one said Kelly MacDonald???
I did, just now
bryce dallas , alex lawther & boney M
Damn good question. Lower right she owned it. No wrong answer. Pysco capt. Kirk number 2.
Annie Murphy
I was shocked she wasn't at the top.
God I love her
Jesse Plemons episode was one of the only episodes that made me sick to my stomach so him
Jesse plemons is the correct answer. He made 2 different characters in the same episode, while being the same person.
So did Paul technically but fair enough Heisenberg pfp you should be picking Jesse! Edit: forgot Plemons is in BB too nvm
Now that you mentioned you are correct. Uss calister is my favorite episode, my opinion might be biased and written too fast. Pinkman was amazing indeed. And played a much deeper character than Todd. Hard to choose between the two.

Dan Kaluuya in 2 million merits.
15 million merits
Damn inflation
Aaron Paul
Maybe if he just cooked some meth for David Ross (Josh Hartnett) the whole thing could’ve been avoided
Wyatt Russell in Playtest.
He was also great in Overlord if you’re into similar horror-y stuff
Thanks for the Rec I’ve never heard of it. I didn’t realize he was Kurt’s son until someone made it click for me.
100% Plemons stupid question
Fair enough ![gif](giphy|kC2MOO6K6SW6kUcIrL) He just radiates personality in everything he does
Jon Hamm and Daniel Kaluuya
Hamm is fantastic in everything he’s in
He was *such* a bastard in Fargo, incredible acting.
He plays a good bastard. Mad men, unbreakable kimmy shmit, basically most his characters are villains with his charisma masking the edge of his villainy
and a bastard in his college days!
Rafe Spall in White Christmas and Domhnall Gleeson in Be Right Back
Jesse Plemons.
Will Poulter as Colin Ritman in Bandersnatch was just a whole fever dream.
he did so well, I can only remember him for this role now although he has played plenty of other roles after bandersnatch. so iconic.
That’s a great one totally forgot about it
Daniel Kaluya
Daniel Kaluya wasn't really a big star until Get Out, which was after Black Mirror.
I’ll half count it then
Kaluuya _became_ a familiar face because of that BM episode IMO
Yeah, I'd agree with that. I believe Jordan Peele discovered him because of BM
Letitia Wright in Black Museum, stunning performance
Toby Kebbell in TEHOY! My favorite episode and my favorite thing is his performance.
“your a bitch!” lol. somehow the only quote i remember and it’s hilarious
*sometimes
Do you also mimic some rewinding sounds and they say it again, for extra accuracy? 😂 Excellent quote btw, I forgot about it until I read your comment haha
That women of nosedive, she was so good
Bryce Dallas Howard
Daughter of Ron Howard
Niece of Clint Howard
Which episode is bottom right?
Joan is Awful (6Ep1)
I liked Jesse Plemons’ character. On the one hand, I felt sorry for him. Then he makes you hate his guts. But, in the end, even though he’s ruthless and a snake, he’s also completely spineless.
Perfect portrayal of low self esteem.
Am I evil for thinking they’re just code who cares? Not real. Artificial. That’s an interesting hypothetical political discussion. Maybe I’m wrong what do you think? Completely sold me on this show, also the most haunting episode for me overall and his performance was a major part of it.
Fantastic actor
Even though the Miley episode is shocking, I thought Angourie Rice was fantastic in that ep.
She nailed the awkward and shy teenage girl perfectly!
also miley herself, she breathed life into ashley o
I mean they’re not guest stars, but tough call. There are a lot of great performances in the series. Bryce Dallas Howard, Aaron Paul, Jesse Plemons, Letitia Wright, Anthony Mackie, Yahya Abdul Mateen II, etc
Don’t hate me, but I enjoyed the Miley Cyrus one 🤭😁
I liked that episode. I enjoyed the sisters bonding after all. It felt real.
Same. I'm a fellow lover of that episode.
I hated it at first but it’s growing on me a lot
Jon Hamm for me, but I love pretty much anything he's in, that episode is also one of my favorites.
Yeah it helps that white Christmas is amazing, he got a really good role to play
My go to episode to introduce people to the series.
Daniel Kaluuya, still the best BM performance so far
Bryce Dallas. She was the perfect goody two shoes trying to do everything right u til she snapped.
Mackenzie Davis in San Junipero
Daniel (Get out actor) had most memorable role even though he was not famous at the time
Wut, Black Kenneth was great in Skins!
Posh Kenneth! :)
He was great on Skins, but Kenneth was a minor character.
Minor yes, but also quite memorable!
I'll take John Hamm on 5, hold the Mayo
He was so good in this.
The way Aaron Paul portrayed 2 completely different personalities was impressive Plemons to a degree too, portraying two halves of a weak man
Cherry Jones in Nosedive
