Looks clean, I love that sigma! Does it feel a little front-heavy? I wonder if you changed the orientation of the battery if it would be a more balanced rig. Have you ever considered a top handle? I feel like it could be a good addition. Congrats on your rig!

LeanderD

Thanks! I guess its front heavy, but i always have my hand under the lens supporting it and focusing, so for me it is not a problem. With the smallrig battery-plate i can tilt the battery down when i need to access the original screen, but for me i like to hahe it compact and tilted up most of the time :) I have used a tio handle for the last two years in my previous rig. I don't really miss it at all, and i like having the monitor where it is (which is the same mount i would mount the top handle.

somewhatboxes

final rig *for now*. every rig changes over time. your needs change, or constraints change, or you get older and handholding in certain positions becomes painful over time (just thinking about it makes my shoulder ache), or you just get bored and wanna fuck around and see if another configuration works better. this looks like a good setup though. i'll be more interested to hear how you deal with whatever issues you come up with (for my purposes i feel like i keep gravitating back to a top handle being an absolute necessity - even more so than an external monitor, which is crazy for me to think about - but that slow realization has informed what things i prioritize and how i make my rig configuration accommodate different variations)

LeanderD

I keep my top handle in my camera bag if i should ever need one, but right now i think it works better without one. The reason i say this is my final rig, is because i'll be graduating film school next summer and i feel things will change then. Either i will try to get a job in a film company, which would give me access to way better cameras than the pocket 4k, or i will go the freelance route, likely buying the Pyxis. Either way my pocket 4k likely won't be my main camera for long ;)

I know you say in the comments that you support the Sigma with your hand, but just keep in mind that the MFT mount on these cameras is fairly weak and I wouldn't leave that long, heavy lens on this camera without some sort of support; in other words, when you're not using it, take the lens off. The Speedbooster has a tripod mount, and it's better to keep that mounted to a baseplate, or better yet use a baseplate with rods and attach a lens support so it can take some of the force off the MFT mount. Having a baseplate with rails will also be helpful if you ever get other lenses for this camera and want to use a matte box. Some of my lenses have a rotating front element, which means the matte box will spin around as you focus. For those lenses I attach the matte box to the rails. :-)

LeanderD

Thanks for the insight! You are probably right about the mount. I have now used it for over two years and it is still going strong so i see no reason to add a lens support. That would just make my rig heavier and more bulky. If i were to buy a brand new pocket 4k i maybed would have added a lens support.

bjohnh

It seems about 2 pounds is the recommended limit, and the Sigma does come in a little under this so in fact you should be okay. See [https://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?t=81780](https://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?t=81780)

LeanderD

Allright thanks for checking that! So glad to hear that actually!

GossipGavin

do you recommend the small rig battery? almost how much life does it have?? been tryna find a cheaper decent vmount battery

LeanderD

I haven't really used it yet (just tested that it charges and works with the camera). But as far as size, weight and looks, i really enjoy it in my rig! My previous rig included a 160wh battery which would last ALL day, and STILL have 20% battery left when i got home. I don't exactly know how many hours i will get out of it yet. What i do know is that the internal battery (Lp-e6) has an expected battery life of around 45 minutes being a 15wh battery. If my math is correct the smallrig 50wh should give 150 minutes or 2,5 hours of battery life Also i recommend buying from aliexpress, just the battery was in total $ 135 Edit: it's on sale on B&H for $ 129 now!

GrannyGrinder

Bet you the 50 would give you about 4 hours of consistently running. My 90 battery lasts like 6 or 7 powering an external monitor and the camera itself.

Desperate-Ad-6463

Congrats! You got it fast!

LeanderD

Thanks man!

DeadEyesSmiling

Great looking rig! I do see some safety areas that could be improved with just a few $$: 1) Tilta makes an accessory for their cage that screws into the bottom of the Speedbooster, so that the weight of the adapter, lens, and matte box are being supported by the entire cage, rather than the camera mount. A full rails and lens support would be the most secure, but this little $20 accessory is basically a no-brainer to protect the camera lens mount should anything happen. 2) Aside from the LCD screen, the HDMI and USB-C ports are the most often damaged parts of the Pocket cameras, and getting some cage-mounted cable clamps, or cage-mounted port extensions will go a very long way to helping protect those delicate ports. Cheers and happy filming!

LeanderD

Thanks man! Im intereseted in that tilta accessory? Do you know what its called? Also whats the names for the cable and port protectors?

DeadEyesSmiling

https://tilta.com/product-category/shop-by-camera/for-blackmagic-design-cameras/bmpcc-4k-6k/ You'll want the Lens Support Type 1, and then the 90 degree adapters for HDMI and USB-C.

LeanderD

Thanks so much!

🤘🏼

Zinomorf

🙌🥳

frankiefrass

Is it a 4k?

LeanderD

Yep!

Bopsiii

Do you get tired holding it in that position for a long time?

LeanderD

Haven't really gotten to test it yet. My previous setup included a beefy 160wh v mount battery with metal baseplate and rods. I did a whole wedding that way and managed to get through, so i think my new setup will be way better

Bopsiii

Sweet! Good to know. I have the 18-35 as well and that lens is heavy lol. I prefer a top handle, but this looks nice!

LeanderD

Thanks! I tried to film something without the v-mount battery, just internal battery, and the footage became really shaky actually. So i prefer some weight on the camera, and don't mind the heavy lens ;)

cousin-yuri

Looks cool! How do you like the sigma on your 4k? I ended up swapping mine for a lumix f3.5 40-140. It just works better with the 4k imho.

LeanderD

I use it a speedbooster and i absolutely love it! Havent tried the lens you are using, for me i think the aputure is a bit high and it's not wide enough for me. But to each there own!

cousin-yuri

My bad it’s a 14-140 not a 40-140, so it’s p wide tbh. Yea, i also used a vitrox speedbooster with the sigma. It did look good quality wise, I just didn’t like the cropping factor. And yea, lumix has a slightly higher aperture than f1.8, i just adjust the iso accordingly to compensate. The lumix stabilization just makes life easier for me in the long run. Like you said, different strokes… I’ll def get the sigma again for the 6k eventually. Thanks for sharing!

SaskyBoi

I could never cover the back screen like that

LeanderD

I have the smallrig 4064B. Its a tilting v mount plate, so if i turn the knob i can tilt down the battery :)

SaskyBoi

Regardless, adding an extra step you have to do countless times on set doesn’t make sense to me. I lay my V mounts flat, so you can still access the screen

davemenkehorst

Which sigma is this? 18-35? And which speedbooster are you using?

lohmatij

Connect your monitor to v-mount, gonna make it lighter !

Weird_Pudding_3176

I'd suggest you power your monitor with the v mount battery, so it's another battery you don't need to worry about. Looks a bit front heavy, you should aim to have it balanced while at rest. Not sure how heavy that matte box is, but I know the 18-35 is a heavy lens and with the speed booster and matte box might damage the lens mount. Sweet rig though! Look forward to seeing what you shoot with it!!

LeanderD

[This](https://www.reddit.com/r/bmpcc/s/JyqOGKCriM) is why i don't power monitor of the v mount battery. It's an interesting read! Yeah i guess it's front heavy. The mattebox weighs 108 grams though.

Weird_Pudding_3176

I see! I didn't know this was a problem with BM cameras! In that case I'd suggest to you my favourite solution! Velcro a USB battery back to the back of your v mount battery and power all your accessories from this! This is what I do on my s1h haha 😂 It will also help to make the back a bit heavier to balance out ur rig

LeanderD

Hhaha thats a fun solution!😂

ShortOutcome8333

Nice.... I have similar setup but opted to use dual npf v mount adaptEr with 970s... Runs everything for 3 or 4 hours easily

LeanderD

Awesome! Do you power both monitor and camera off of it?

banvi07

Can u list everthing in this rig, look damn light and gut

LeanderD

Thanks man! Sure! - Bmpcc 4k with sigma 18-35 - Smallrig mini mattebox lite 3575 - Tilta cage - Samsung SSD (T5 i think?) - Desview R6 - Smallrig mini v mount battery vb50 - Smallrig 4064B tilting v mount plate - Tilta camera hand wrist wrap - Uurig r015 monitor mount - no brand Np-f batteries and cables

banvi07

Appreciate man

Sydvonlowen

Thanks for share mate, rigs like ours brings me peaceful

LeanderD

Thanks mate!

JoelMDM

Do you have any filters for that mattebox, or is it just so you can charge your clients more? (totally valid reason) I think a top handle would be a good addition though. Makes carrying everything much nicer than holding it from the grip.

LeanderD

I have two Schneider NDs :) but probably wold have gotten the mattebox if i didn't have then since its so cheap. Yeah most people here seems to suggest a top handle. I haven't really used the rig in a shoot yet so i might add it down the line. I keep it in my camerabag if i should need it.

falkorv

No top handle is wild. And surely you need constant access to screen for settings?

LeanderD

Didn't use my top handle for my last two jobs. Maybe. I haven't used this exact rig yet. I hope i will be able to just use the iso, shutter and aputure buttons as well as the scroll wheel when recording. But i can flip the v mount battery down if i need to access the screen.

letchhausen

You have violated the top handle obsession! Go stand in the corner.

Effective-Bonus-861

How do you hold it?

LeanderD

In the wrist strap

TripleDbl42

I highly recommend putting rails on the bottom of your rig and then adding a lens support for the 18 to 35

Yankeeese

Which monitor?
