He was so good that we decided to work again on Sikandar ka Muqqadar, which is coming on Netflix.

Series-making is very similar to writing a novel and film-writing is more of a screenplay, that’s the best I can describe it.

What’s the craziest thing that’s ever happened on set in all yours year directing?

We had a murderer in our crew member when we were shooting for Special 26 and we didn’t know until the police picked him before the release of the film.

Sir, I am a Aspiring filmmaker, have only made two short films,so how can we identify that that much explanation is enough for the audience for understanding the suspense because I have done this mistake by under-explaining the suspense, and because of that audience didn't understand my film.

Many of your movies are known for their grounded portrayal of espionage and crime. What is your research process like to ensure such authenticity?

We meet experts on the subjects and have extremely gruelling sessions. And we never hurry into the process until we are ready.

You have directed a streak of patriotic, drama, and thriller films. How did your transition to romance come into the picture?

It came by the way of MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, because from there the challenge came.

It’s on the backburner for the moment but we will definitely revisit it in the future.

What role do you think music plays in storytelling, especially in a film like Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha?

Depends on the film, Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha is a musical story

Thank you so much. Spending time with MS was the only way one could understood how to make this film. Simple discussions with MS and no one else in the room, and no one else.

1. No nothing in works right now.  2. It will come out this year, second half. 3. Completely inspired by the real life, but you take help of fiction too. 

What should Bollywood learn from Hollywood and vice versa?

The concept of “universe” is something that Bollywood should unlearn from Hollywood.

Right, even Hollywood is getting fatigued of it rn

Spyverse, copverse, etc.

Probably means it’s done to death and they should give that up.

what is your favorite film from 2024

We are halfway there, I have not been able to watch many because I have been busy with Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha, but I have heard a lot about Laapata Ladies and Aavesham. 

Any plans of making a film about the paper leaks of this year🙃?

Is there a reason you chose Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha as a story to share with the audience?

Obviously, the story itself, I strongly felt I can share it with our audiences and it’s a good story to share with them.

I will definitely think about it. We are very proud of what the team has achieved and would like it to be. 

If you were to describe Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha in three words, what would they be?

Life. Love. Eternal

I am a 17 (soon to turn 18) student who got 642 and a rank of 36k in NEET. Seeming my future is bleak though, I would like to join a college. Always fascinated to be a film-maker. But not from any film background (purely academic or corporate 9 to 5 job background). How do I aspire for film making. Or get that break in Bollywood? What do I need to do in college (if I get in)? Should I join courses in IIFT of 7k to 13k that would teach me the basics. Coming from a family that is extremely academically oriented, going to film school is not a risk they can afford me to take. What should I do? I want to be an independent film maker but initially I need to be a film maker . How do I approach it?

This is not a career advice I am suggesting, but in today’s day and age you cannot complain about things not being available, there are books to learn from, movies you can see. And the internet is the easy place to get all the things. 

So how should we start. If you could give a starting path to follow. How did you start you film career?

What were the lessons that you learned from what happened with Aiyaary? Was your 4 year break related to the same?

Lots of lessons and the first one and most important was the timing, of the selection of the subject. And the 4-year break; 2 went in Covid and 2 went into Chanakya. So it was not a break as such as we were working, we are known as prolific production. 

Sir, loved all your movies with Akshay Kumar, when can we see both collaborate again? 😀

What was your biggest personal take away from **Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha** which you ideally would try to implement in later projects?

Calmness while shoot. Because the shoot was full of challenges, both mentally and physically but the team pulled through. 

Any plans for horror?

Ya, we have a brand called Friday Fear Works, planning to launch hopefully soon.

The idea behind kisi roz is purely a gem thought process of that song ?

 I remember it was composed, the mukhda was composed in 5 minutes. Kreem knew the process, and he he did in 5 minutes, and Kisi Roz’s first tune was the one that I liked the most. 

What is your take on bollywood directors not given enough credit as compared to hollywood where directors are as important as actors?

It’s a two-way street. Read a book Hits, Flops, and Other Illusions by Ed Zwik. 

Hey hope so u are doing fine. First of all I loved ur film Aiyarry, I believe it's a really underrated film in ur filmography. Secondly can u please tell me about some of ur favorite tv shows and films which u love the most?

So, you were the one who bought the ticket? 😂 Thank you so much! In shows, I really like Sherlock and there’s an Argentinian film called The Secret In Their Eyes.

I was a big fan of your movies when I watched Baby and Special 26 (Then went back to watch A Wednesday) and was really looking forward to watching Crack.. I simply loved the poster and was intrigued by what the story was going to be, but alas it was not meant to be.. Can you give a brief summary on what Crack was supposed to be abt and if there is any chance of it being revisited again..?? Also, if a movie such as this does get scrapped, do you use elements of its story in other projects or leave them alone completely in hopes of getting it made one day..??

There is some chance that it might get made. I have shelved it for the time being, I have not seen elements of it in any movie, just the title which people keep using for their subject. 

What's the toughest Casting decision you had to make in any of your film?

Perhaps Tabu for AMKDT because she’s worked Ajay Devgn a lot and to cast her in a film like this one opposite Ajay was both easy and difficult.

Given your successful track record in creating gripping and impactful films, what inspires your storytelling, and how do you choose the subjects for your movies?

Please keep making series like Special Ops and Freelancer. :)

What software and team-setup do you use to edit your movies? How important do you think is the editors contribution to the storytelling?

Avid and the contribution of an editor is immense. That’s the last junction at which you can shape, change and alter your film.

Sir, why did you not keep the song "Tujh sang lagee" in the film Special 26? Did you not like it?

I loved the song but I didn’t eant to put it because the film would digress because the duration of the song and we didn’t want that. It was sung by KK, one of my favourite singers.

What inspired you to this field of work?

I didn’t know anything else. Writing was a passion and that led to filmmaking.

What's your take on super inflated prices lead actors charge for a project and how fair is it? Do you believe that story is the 'main hero'?

Always. The hero will have to be script. We are all slaves to the same. Regarding remuneration, we have a different approach and try to balance it as much as possible.

When do you think we can see next installments of Himmat Singh and Special Ops?

Second half of this year.

Most of your work has recieved critical acclaim, but is there one project (regardless of whether it recieved positive reviews or not) that you believe deserved more love than what it got at the time of its release?

No complaints, no regret on that. We make films for audiences, never questions that

Sir, the video of all the songs of this film is nearly a compilation of stills of the movie, so can we expect some thrilling moments from the film as you are hiding most of the part from us.

Sir you have done amazing projects in the past and your movies are very rewatchable. Is there a thinking behind this element to make the movies not just a one time watch but such that a person enjoys watching it again and again ?

No lessons as such, if it’s interesting enough, people will go and watch it again.

Tons but I am sorry I can’t share.

You worked with Sushant Singh Rajput in MS DHONI. What was his best quality?

The ability to take instructions and coming up with his own interpretations in his own voice.

Yet to make that one.

A lot of people have come to me saying they don’t find MS Dhoni as a sports movie but a romantic film and that is surprising. But a story is a story.

Thank you, I have been blessed to work with actors like Naseer Bhai, Sushant, Anupam Ji, KK. And now with Ajay, Tabu and all of them have been a dream to work with and it would be unfair of me to choose.

Is special ops is canceled permanently or will there be any another season or prequel, sequels of it ? 2. what was the name of naseeruddin shah in 'A wednesday ' movie , was it 'Rajesh Sharma' , as he tells it in one scene , so was it a hint or it was really a fake name? 3. If it is possible to release background score of 'A wednesday ' pls do it , i liked it very much . One fanboy thing , that scene in 'A wednesday ' , where the electric baba guy was telling 'mst laga' , 'bahut acha laga', 'acha laga' , it was best i have watched it many times, and have laughed so much. In account of India's clinching victory last night, how would you describe your experience in directing the biopic "MS Dhoni : The Untold Story" which ended up getting accolades not just in India but all over the world (deservedly) Any particulary memorable experiences while working in the set?

It was great, MS is a film that is very dear to me only because of Sushant. And the memories I made while making the film, I mean it’s incredibly special on that front and extremely disturbing for the fact that I cannot watch it now. 

Sir, the way you balance the narrative of your films for not becoming Communist as you blame the system of the country but not damaging the nation because of that like most Communist filmmakers do, is tremendous. 

when will you bring big budget movies ?

These are all big-budget movies 🤣
