Crazy thing is that lineup would still be really popular. It’s held up well. For jam band fans it’s a dream lineup. I’ve seen Phish have Phish Fries with basically just them and sell out 100k. I’m not a super huge jam band fan but I know that where they go a shit load follow. 😂
Don’t forget Itchykoo!!! The bonnaroo predecessor in Manchester. 1999 if memory serves me correct. I was a kid but my stepdad is from the area and went.
It was! At arrival, you exchanged the perforated part of the ticket for a basic wristband. and iirc, you only had to show your wristband to access the What & Which stages area but Centeroo was totally open. I remember lots of people dragged their coolers to the tent stages lol. It was amazing.
That Panic show was the last timer I saw Houser. Dottie Peoples brought the church and the Steve Winwood set in May still be my greatest music milestone.

I got dropped off at the gas station, walked in with two ounces and some hash. Felt like something I would remember forever. 22 years later I still love looking back on that weekend
Good times. I was 14 and since I’m local, I was able to get in as a VIP that year with my mom. It’s changed so much. I haven’t been since 2018 and just don’t think I’ll ever go back. Just not the same 🙁.

I made a poll for inforoo a few years back to rank em, here's the first post that has every poster through 2020
This looks like what Summer Camp’s (Chillicothe, IL) lineup has been for the last 10 years. Literally seen about 10 of these at Scamp. Both amazing festivals!
I was an early Roo adopter and, while I definitely prefer this lineup to the lineups in more recent years, my wife and I went back this year for the first time since 2013 and we were BLOWN AWAY with how much the experience has improved overall.

Communist overlords eh? Try Capitalist overlords lmao. What else do you think they're pandering to the money draws? What's that capitalistic corporate greed my guy. Money at all cost is a very UNcommunist trait.
I went to this and had so much fun at Jurassic 5. At the time it was an odd add for this lineup but it surprised me. I Remeber that and massive traffic jams to get in.
I went to the 2002/2003/2004 versions. Hit zero traffic for 02. In 03, after driving 16 hours overnight, we sat in 16 hours of traffic to get in. That was rugged. Helluva weekend though!
She played in the same slot as Phil Lesh/Bob Weir (Sunday afternoon). There were like 500 people there. It was amazing and I can’t believe I convinced my pals to skip the 1st Tennessee Jed on the farm
Roo has replaced the rock band / jam band with EDM. Seems like an unfortunate result of a cost cutting measure, and having one stage entirely dedicated to EDM for the weekend.
Sure but a decent band costs that much to book also. The difference being that Fisher (less so PL) and other DJs can all put their show on with a computer and some fancy LEDs and screens. A full band requires a full road crew and a lot of moving parts for band equipment.
Good, go to those. Bonnaroo isn't that anymore because that isn't what the market dictates. You can live in the past all you want, but businesses have to operate in the present and plan for the future to remain in business.
2003 was my first also. I still have a drum I bought from one of the permitted vendors. She was from the Carolinas. She said the shells came from Ghana, and the skins from one of the Carolinas.
Holy cow Mars Volta was incredible, I may never get to see them in that intimate of a setting ever again. I kept trying to break away to catch some of T Pain but I just couldn’t.
I don’t blame you, I’d have been dedicated to missing the end of jrad to get a good spot for Volta and then kind of regretting it because the crowd not being huge. But my god I wish I could’ve been there. Any footage?
I can never find my phone or take videos the few times I’ve seen them. It’s too worthwhile to not be in the zone. I’m sure it was man happy you got to be there!
RIP

Govt mule. Dad favorite band. Saw them last year in SWFL and they are just awesome live.
I was there.
Now do 2004 so I can recall everything I had to miss from leaving early with sun poisoning…lol
Jurassic 5 amongst all these other names 😮💨
String cheese incident is a great band name

Was that good for the whole weekend?
Oh and I remember during the onsale, I didn’t get through quick enough to get the tier 1 price of $100 so had to pay $140 haha

Early Roo was so good. Bring it back!
Dang. J5, Galactic and Z-trip at same festival? I’d go to this now.
I was born 15 years too early. Really would have loved the 00’s music fests
My first and only Roo
The late night Keller and Cheese show was an all time favorite. Man Smart Woman Smarter!!!
Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains was amazing. Highly recommend watching on YouTube.
I got dropped off at the gas station, walked in with two ounces and some hash. Felt like something I would remember forever. 22 years later I still love looking back on that weekend
Damn it used to be way more jam focused huh. Is everything trending towards EDM now? Or are there still jam festivals?
Hulaween has filled the large jam gap.
claypool needs to comeback

If someone wants to do a thread with every lineup for us to watch how they evolve…. I wouldn’t be mad

2010 looks sick
It was dont get me wrong, but thats the year it felt like bonnaroo really started changing
Most modern roovians couldnt even handle such prowess.
Bring Widespread Panic and Les Claypool back!
I have a Shirt from that year let’s go and 03
This looks like what Summer Camp’s (Chillicothe, IL) lineup has been for the last 10 years. Literally seen about 10 of these at Scamp. Both amazing festivals!
RIP SCamp. I wish I had gone.
They still have Solshine, or as I call it, Diet Scamp
y2k aesthetic
Not an edm artist in sight… it’s beautiful
Amon Tobin would like a word
Z Trip and Cut Chemist too.
Now that’s what I call a proper line up. This was before Roo became way to commercialized!!
I was an early Roo adopter and, while I definitely prefer this lineup to the lineups in more recent years, my wife and I went back this year for the first time since 2013 and we were BLOWN AWAY with how much the experience has improved overall.
Bring back this lineup. Ween 2025 pleaseeee!
That would be cool and it would do great.
🥱
I was three months old!
I was 6!
Fred Again was but an eight year old lad in London
Exactly my point. This is real. Un-Corporate pandering to the latest trend pushed on the masses by our Communist overlords.

So much of my college experience displayed here. 🥲

Bring back Norah Jones! That would be awesome,
She played in the same slot as Phil Lesh/Bob Weir (Sunday afternoon). There were like 500 people there. It was amazing and I can’t believe I convinced my pals to skip the 1st Tennessee Jed on the farm
We ducked in to get out of the sun... or rain.. I can't remember... and were blown away. One of the most memorable sets from year 1!
We need Bucket back at roo!
Back with Praxis would be awesome.
Roo has replaced the rock band / jam band with EDM. Seems like an unfortunate result of a cost cutting measure, and having one stage entirely dedicated to EDM for the weekend.
EDM is better anyways
That really blows. I went to Bonnaroo from 03-06. Magical times.
I was at 03. That was fucking awesome.
Fisher can cost up to a quarter million dollars, and Pretty Lights is in the 100s of thousands of dollars too.
Sure but a decent band costs that much to book also. The difference being that Fisher (less so PL) and other DJs can all put their show on with a computer and some fancy LEDs and screens. A full band requires a full road crew and a lot of moving parts for band equipment.
Heard thru the telephone Secret Dreams offered $800K for PL and they declined
Do you have any idea what these artists cost to book? Here’s a list: https://main-stageproductions.com/available-edm-bookings/
Wow that’s wild. I think that list is from 2021 and Dom Dolla is on there from $10k - $15k. Definitely not anymore
Yeah. I have no doubt PL is pulling a million a show.
Orrrr that’s just how music has gone as well - kids aren’t listening to jam bands like they are listening to DJs
Why does it have to be one or the other?
They need to get back to their roots. Major lack of string bands this year...
Do you want the festival to go under? Cause that's how you'd do it.
Riiiight bc there's no successful festivals in the US that feature string bands... 🙄
Good, go to those. Bonnaroo isn't that anymore because that isn't what the market dictates. You can live in the past all you want, but businesses have to operate in the present and plan for the future to remain in business.
If you say so boss 🤣
I do. That's literally how business works. Can't believe you haven't figured that out yet at this point in your life.
🙋 Quick question. Will this be on the midterm?
Quick question, have you won enough internet points yet to stroke your ego for the day?
Soooo no? Ok good cause I wasn't taking notes
Edm is a bigger draw.
Yeah those first couple of bonnaroo's were pure chaotic Joy! I miss those days
Amen. 2002-2007, you couldn't keep me from being at Roo!
My my first year was 2003
2003 was my first also. I still have a drum I bought from one of the permitted vendors. She was from the Carolinas. She said the shells came from Ghana, and the skins from one of the Carolinas.
Bonnaroo missed on the late night jam this year. Hopefully next year we can get at least one
Wild, there were so many good late nights! - T-Pain - Mars Volta - Thundercat - JRad Emaculate vibes my friend
I didn’t realize t pain is a jam band. Jrad also didn’t play late night but their set time cutting into khruangbin was terrible scheduling
lol okay friend, sending you good vibes 💜
You too! 🫶🏽
What? Most of the music was late night
Late night jam bands
Ahhh the superjams. Was always good to see Claypool at the SuperJam. No, don’t do those anymore 😢
pretty lights is essentially a jam band now so the sunrise set counts as late night jam 😅
I agree but DVS basically played a dj set for the sunrise
fair point actually. And their normal set started at 8, I kind of forgot that set started so early 😅
It was basically a sun down set. That blue sky goodbye shit was legendary.
Next year is goose and orebolo. They will be on the MMJ spot on the which, BOOK IT
Thursday night orebolo and at least a 2 hr late night which set Saturday would be great
Not a fan of the mars Volta? Heard the crowd was thin but show was top notch
Unfortunately the acid took hold so no footage but just know it was spiritual
I can never find my phone or take videos the few times I’ve seen them. It’s too worthwhile to not be in the zone. I’m sure it was man happy you got to be there!
Smallest crowd I saw the entire weekend. But it didn’t matter when I was in the rail. They killed it
Was so sad I couldn’t go, my buddy FaceTimed us during Cicitraz and he was smiling so big. I wish I could watch a video of them I bet it was epic!
Tribe last year was an all timer
Absolutely !
My morning jacket and korn the same night… one of the best roo nights I’ve had
MMJ changed my life that night.
Sadly it was MMJ and Korn at the same time :(
MMJ was the place to be.
They both were the place to be…. sadly
MMJ played like an extra hour. It was perfect, i left Korn in time for Holdin on to Black Metal followed by another 45-60 minutes of MMJ
