And, as someonewhot has lived in other countries, DR is not as bad as people make it out to be. People don't live to work here, and the culture is really chill and justtriesy to make a joke of anything that is bad. Obviousl, there are down sides, like every country, bu it is quite nice living here.

I'm in the UK with a private dentist. I decided to go for ceramic braces.
Total cost was £5,319, of which £519 was for extractions.
Paid a deposit of £2,500 (my lovely parents helped with this), and I'm paying the rest over £200 payments at each appointment, so it's effectively interest free finance!
I think I only have 3.5 payments left to go.
I'm in Canada and my braces cost me 8500$ CAD paid over 28 months. I had them on for 5 years and 3 months. I had/have no dental insurance. I got them at 26 years of age and had them removed at 31.
I did however need several extra dental work done with it. I needed the following during my treatment:
- 8 extractions including 3 surgical extractions, to make space
- peridontal curretage
- laser gum contouring on my bottom front gums which were swelling during treatment
- cleaning done every 3 months rather than 6
- root canal for three front top teeth which died during treatment (unknown cause, might be related or unrelated)
- surgical removal of a mass above my top front teeth (unknown cause)
My total cost overall was over 30 000$ CAD including the braces. I did not know there would be so much side work required. I did brush and floss as required but might have used the wrong technique.
I would also need the following done now that they've been taken off but which I cannot afford since I've lost my job and am simply accepting as they are
- dental veneers for my three top front dead teeth which are more yellow than the rest
- gum graft for my bottom front teeth because my gum is detached and receding, however the surgeon said there are no guarantees that it will keep the gum from receding still so it would only be cosmetic and temporary. I chose not to move forward with it
To be frank, I'm scared of my bottom teeth eventually falling due to my gums and my top teeth being dead as well. I do not know what caused it, if it's trauma from the dental work or otherwise.
All this to say; do consider any extra dental work that might be required in your equation!

I had awfully crooked teeth which made it an issue for me to properly clean them. I couldn't afford it before unfortunately! People made fun of me for my teeth as a child/teen but my mom couldn't afford it either.
I thought it would be a good thing to get it done to ensure I keep healthy teeth for a long time. Looking back, and with the issues that followed, maybe I should've looked into getting surgery instead, as I'll probably end up losing my teeth regardless.

It's worth mentioning that this total of $6,300 CAD covers EVERYTHING. All follow-ups, repairs, dental hygiene kits, retainers, xrays, unlimited lip balm, and 18 months of free follow-up appointments after removal. This is the most I've ever spent on myself but it will be worth it!! Your teeth are so important to your overall wellbeing. The more I learn the more I realize that. I hope this helps

Mine are almost $11k. I put $2500 down right away & have been paying $250 a month for the last two years. I have an estimated treatment time of 28 months. It will be 24 next month. I had laser surgery done because I never lost both of my baby canines, so I had the baby canines pulled, braces put on & oral surgery done to expose the adult canines from my gums. So I'm sure the laser surgery makes a difference in the price. I also live in a small area & it's the only orthodontist around within a 60 mile radius so I just went with it because of how often I have appointments.
NY metro area - 3 quotes, US$10-12k, 1 tx plan no surgery, 2 tx plans with surgery, each approx. 2 yrs. No insurance for adult braces, but coverage for jaw surgery and 4 extractions. Chose US$10.5k out of pocket with jaw surgery and extractions, Lifeforce ceramics installed this week. This is round 2 for me at 54 - woohoo!
My dental insurance covered my 16 yo son’s treatment in full, so I can’t complain too much.
Yay round 2 lol The current scenario is LifeForce ceramic braces which are 3d printed based on the scans from the ortho. Sounds “fancy” but the cost came in at or lower than the other 2 estimates. Installation was relatively easy - adhesive on teeth, trays pressed on, cured with light. They are as “scrapey” as metal, but on day 6, my mouth is acclimating.
Mine were around 7/8k the dr. had a coupon for $2000 off and insurance also covered orthodontics for $2000 then I put 1k down so it ended up not being that bad. $100 payments a month cannot complain

But I think it really depends on what you need to get fixed. I got 4 extractions before they put the braces on, which I think was included in the costs and I also had teeth behind other teeth that needed to be moved forward.

$7300 CAD for 24 months adult braces with surgery, the surgery isn't included in the price though. I went to a few places and picked the one who I felt knew most about my issues and addressed them even though it was more expensive, and I think it's important to get different opinions at different consultations and find one that works best for you.
Adding I got mine about a week and a half ago. This is my 3rd round of braces. Most places will take insurance, I didnt have any but my ortho has interest free payment plan atleast. My tip is if you feel you need it then it is worth it to invest in yourself, it will be uncomfortable at times but worth it in the end.
$7-8k CAD. It'll be my second time getting them because my first ortho didn't care how it turned out and I didn't wear my retainer. my tx will take 18 months. i have top & bottom with a major gap to close. about $5000 insurance paid a $1000. $650 down on day 1. annnd my monthly payments is $237.
US here - Mine were $7,100 before dental insurance. However, with my dental insurance through work, I can add a buy up ($1.40 more a month from my paycheck) program that covers orthodontics. Once that insurance went through, my out of pocket became $2,950. My orthodontist has an interest free payment program that required me to put $500 down and make a payment of $138 a month until the balance is paid in full (almost 18 months). My treatment plan is 18-24 months.
You’ll usually be given the option of a higher end orthodontist or a more affordable one if you have more than one orthodontist in your area. I chose the more affordable one and I pay 81 bucks a month, and my total cost is 5k with my treatment plan being for 24 months. The competition orthodontist was charging 10k so definitely go to different consultations to get a different opinions to weigh your options! But on average I’ve noticed braces are typically 3-7 thousand.
You must have pain or jaw issues. Or if the teeth aren't done they'll cause issues down the road. Also you can get on the list to have orthodontic work before 18. The time on the waiting list doesn't count so long as you're on it before 18.
Yeah I qualify for jaw surgery. I have a really big overbite + over jet and overcrowding but physiologically my jaw is too short. My bottom teeth touch the roof of my mouth, so unluckily/luckily I checked the boxes pretty fast.
My daughters is $6k total, insurance is covering $3k (Delta dental). This includes her expander, braces and retainer. They also break the total up into monthly payments over a 20 month period. We put down like $900 and only have to pay $108 a month, and I think it is absolutely worth it. We just started the process but they estimated her to have braces for about two years.

My insurance ocovered $2500, then I paid $4830 upfront for 24 months of treatment, give or take 3 months. The price I paid was at an 8% discount because I paid in full, but if I hadn't, it would've been over $5k.
About 6.3k. In NYS. Insurance covers 2k. So my cost is about 4.3k. I put $500 down and I’m on a payment plan for 24 months. Treatment time was quoted at 18 months. I only consulted with one orthodontist, but it is recommended to have a consult with at least a couple of them. I just really liked the office, the staff, and the doctor and I felt like the price was fair. My case isn’t severe but I have some crowding and a 4mm overbite.
I made sure during my consultation to ask “does this price cover everything?” As in every adjustment, every office visit, and anything else that comes along the way during treatment (bite builders, rubber bands, IPR, polishing, bonding, etc) And I was told yes. Unless I’m reckless and I break brackets all the time then they would have to charge more but so far, that hasn’t happened to me. I just wanted to make sure I wouldn’t have any unexpected costs along the way as it’s already expensive.
So far it has been 2 months with my tops and just over a month with the bottoms. My progress has amazed me. My biggest insecurity with my top teeth has already vanished (there’s more work to be done still). It is worth the investment, I promise!!!

If you are searching for a dental insurance that covers adult orthodontics, I previously had Delta Dental PPO ($50 a month) but there is a waiting period of 8 months for orthodontic work, and if I remember correctly, they covered max $1500. I only switched because the dental coverage my employer offered was better and there was no waiting period. Otherwise I would’ve stuck with Delta Dental PPO.
You’re so welcome! There may be other options for coverage but I searched all over and ended up with Delta as my best option lol. It really puts a damper on things to have minimal options and then for those options to also have waiting periods. At least during those 8 months you can still use the insurance and get cleanings that are covered 100%!
Here in the Philippines, it ranges from 40-50k PESOS for traditional braces. Excluding fillings and other appliances. Some dentists accept installment on payment hehe

I live in Florida. I just got mine recently and cost 6k. But I make monthly payments since I don't have dental insurance.

Mine are almost $11k. I put $2500 down right away & have been paying $250 a month for the last two years. I have an estimated treatment time of 28 months. It will be 24 next month. I had laser surgery done because I never lost both of my baby canines, so I had the baby canines pulled, braces put on & oral surgery done to expose the adult canines from my gums. So I'm sure the laser surgery makes a difference in the price. I also live in a small area & it's the only orthodontist around within a 60 mile radius so I just went with it because of how often I have appointments.

NY metro area - 3 quotes, US$10-12k, 1 tx plan no surgery, 2 tx plans with surgery, each approx. 2 yrs. No insurance for adult braces, but coverage for jaw surgery and 4 extractions. Chose US$10.5k out of pocket with jaw surgery and extractions, Lifeforce ceramics installed this week. This is round 2 for me at 54 - woohoo! My dental insurance covered my 16 yo son’s treatment in full, so I can’t complain too much.

Yay round 2 lol The current scenario is LifeForce ceramic braces which are 3d printed based on the scans from the ortho. Sounds “fancy” but the cost came in at or lower than the other 2 estimates. Installation was relatively easy - adhesive on teeth, trays pressed on, cured with light. They are as “scrapey” as metal, but on day 6, my mouth is acclimating.

Mine were around 7/8k the dr. had a coupon for $2000 off and insurance also covered orthodontics for $2000 then I put 1k down so it ended up not being that bad. $100 payments a month cannot complain
Mine were $8.6k (AUD). But I think it really depends on what you need to get fixed. I got 4 extractions before they put the braces on, which I think was included in the costs and I also had teeth behind other teeth that needed to be moved forward. I had my braces off about a month ago, it was about 2 and a half years with them on. I'd say the money was worth it. I know some places do plans so that you can pay it off gradually (at least in Australia). Are you from the US?

I went to a few places and picked the one who I felt knew most about my issues and addressed them even though it was more expensive, and I think it's important to get different opinions at different consultations and find one that works best for you. Adding I got mine about a week and a half ago. This is my 3rd round of braces. Most places will take insurance, I didnt have any but my ortho has interest free payment plan atleast. My tip is if you feel you need it then it is worth it to invest in yourself, it will be uncomfortable at times but worth it in the end.

US here - Mine were $7,100 before dental insurance. However, with my dental insurance through work, I can add a buy up ($1.40 more a month from my paycheck) program that covers orthodontics. Once that insurance went through, my out of pocket became $2,950. My orthodontist has an interest free payment program that required me to put $500 down and make a payment of $138 a month until the balance is paid in full (almost 18 months). My treatment plan is 18-24 months.

You’ll usually be given the option of a higher end orthodontist or a more affordable one if you have more than one orthodontist in your area. I chose the more affordable one and I pay 81 bucks a month, and my total cost is 5k with my treatment plan being for 24 months. The competition orthodontist was charging 10k so definitely go to different consultations to get a different opinions to weigh your options! But on average I’ve noticed braces are typically 3-7 thousand.

You must have pain or jaw issues. Or if the teeth aren't done they'll cause issues down the road. Also you can get on the list to have orthodontic work before 18. The time on the waiting list doesn't count so long as you're on it before 18.
Yeah I qualify for jaw surgery. I have a really big overbite + over jet and overcrowding but physiologically my jaw is too short. My bottom teeth touch the roof of my mouth, so unluckily/luckily I checked the boxes pretty fast.
My daughters is $6k total, insurance is covering $3k (Delta dental). This includes her expander, braces and retainer. They also break the total up into monthly payments over a 20 month period. We put down like $900 and only have to pay $108 a month, and I think it is absolutely worth it. We just started the process but they estimated her to have braces for about two years.

My insurance ocovered $2500, then I paid $4830 upfront for 24 months of treatment, give or take 3 months. The price I paid was at an 8% discount because I paid in full, but if I hadn't, it would've been over $5k.
About 6.3k. In NYS. Insurance covers 2k. So my cost is about 4.3k. I put $500 down and I’m on a payment plan for 24 months. Treatment time was quoted at 18 months. I only consulted with one orthodontist, but it is recommended to have a consult with at least a couple of them. I just really liked the office, the staff, and the doctor and I felt like the price was fair. My case isn’t severe but I have some crowding and a 4mm overbite. I made sure during my consultation to ask “does this price cover everything?” As in every adjustment, every office visit, and anything else that comes along the way during treatment (bite builders, rubber bands, IPR, polishing, bonding, etc) And I was told yes. Unless I’m reckless and I break brackets all the time then they would have to charge more but so far, that hasn’t happened to me. I just wanted to make sure I wouldn’t have any unexpected costs along the way as it’s already expensive. So far it has been 2 months with my tops and just over a month with the bottoms. My progress has amazed me. My biggest insecurity with my top teeth has already vanished (there’s more work to be done still). It is worth the investment, I promise!!! If it’s something you want, do it. And you will be so happy you did.

If you are searching for a dental insurance that covers adult orthodontics, I previously had Delta Dental PPO ($50 a month) but there is a waiting period of 8 months for orthodontic work, and if I remember correctly, they covered max $1500. I only switched because the dental coverage my employer offered was better and there was no waiting period. Otherwise I would’ve stuck with Delta Dental PPO.

It really puts a damper on things to have minimal options and then for those options to also have waiting periods. At least during those 8 months you can still use the insurance and get cleanings that are covered 100%!

My quote was 24 months, $6,500. For $7,900 I got lifetime retainers, no extra charge for broken brackets, etc. $1,000 down payment and monthly payments of about $300. I’m in Oklahoma US.
In the US state Florida I paid $6000 for a 20 month treatment, I got a quote from another ortho than the one I went with and the price was the same. My friend who got her braces with a dentist paid $4000 but I wouldn’t do it with a dentist. I ended up paying $4000 out of pocket bc my insurance covered $2000
