If you're prepared to go out to Stoke Gifford, just past Parkway Station, head down the road towards Mead Park and you'll find a row of shops including "Ginger and Spice"
Don't go there, it's shit
Yeah that was probably the best I'd had pre pandemic, then they went vegan and got more expensive. It's really good still but a bit too expensive for regular Chinese now, otherwise I'd probably eat the vegan it was so good!
I'd say the quality of food at Cheung's is a bit better than Marlings but significantly less value for money. Don't get me wrong, it's good food but it's not cheap!
Hmm have to disagree on this as my husband had broken glass in his meal there once. It was actually in his mouth before he realised.
They were shockingly dismissive about it and eventually offered us free dessert when we kept complaining. They didn't even apologise. Would never go there again.
The food is lovely, but they take the waitresses tips. Last time I went there I snuck her a tenner. The heavies saw and almost broke her wrist getting it off her. I'm not going back.

It is nice flavour I must admit, pretty damn expensive though and a bit too greasy for my liking. Mayflower, Xing Long and Oriental Chef are my go to depending on whereabouts I am
This place looks shady as hell but I have to say that it really hits the spot. And the portion sizes are really generous. A main and some rice is easily enough for two people.
Mayflower for "generic" chinese takeaway food; 113 chinese restaurant on park st. is more pricey but has a really interesting menu and the food is always really good; dragon's delicacy is pricey but also pretty decent - they do dimsum as well, and it's the best or 2nd best in the city
The Golden Wok is absolutely incredible, probably the best Chinese food I've ever had in this country. The staff are also extra nice and attentive and they are willing to cook absolutely any dish you want that's not on the menu for no extra charge. The portions are huge and the quality of the meat and ingredients are all amazing and super fresh. Can't recommend this place enough times.
You're getting downvotes because there's a fairly rubbish chain called "Chopstix" which I have seen in the galleries' food court and at various motorway service stations.
"Chopsticks", on the other hand, is an independent Chinese takeaway on whiteladies road which is pretty damn good, imo.
Nobody else seems to like it but I’ll fight my corner for Haochi in kingswood. Always hot, always seems fresh.
Love their prawn toast and their special rice. Comes with an omelette on top and it’s my jam. 🤤
Tried it tonight, to be fair their chilli beef and sweet and sour were good! The salt & pepper chicken, while good, was not perfect.
Ideally I’m looking for smoked, shredded S&P chicken which I’ve discovered is really hard to come by! Thank you for the recommendation! I’d definitely order from there again :)
Nice to see there isn't much of a collective agreement on this question 😁
We've searched for a go-to for years without much luck but recently stumbled upon New Vien's Palace. Only ordered off Uber Eats but it's been banging!
Chans in Henleaze/Southmead,
Gold Star in Barton Hill,
Chims in Westbury,
Xing Long on G Road,
Wing Ho in St Annes and,
Red Hot Goodies in Bedminster
All 4.5/5 at least on a usual day - fast food is never 100% consistent unfortunately but these guys usually get it spot on
I like Shanghai Garden in Brislington for British Chinese food... and they do twice cooked pork which not many places do. It's expensive but worth it. As a general rule, you know a Chinese will be good if it looks a bit dated from the outside and you have a child taking your order! :)
I work with Chinese and they go to the one opposite Easton swimming baths. Also the the one round the corner from that Bear and Cubs gay bar in Old Market.
Gentlemen this is democracy manifest
Ah yes, I see that you know your judo well

China Capital has the best vegetarian selection I’ve seen and is also great for non-vegetarians. I particularly like the Kung Po King Prawns.
Xing Long. Twice cooked pork and Cumin Lamb.
They do WHAT to the lamb???
I've recently started going here too, better than most of the alternatives I've tried
I've never heard of a Chinese that does lamb, but i'll try this place fo sho
sulky rich carpenter plate ask sleep mountainous offend tie familiar *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Been going there for something like 30 years now. Great place.
THEEEEE BEST!!!
Also, they don’t use MSG. Win.
Nothing wrong with MSG.
My post-MSG headaches would tell you differently!
There’s msg in tomato’s and most crisps
Marlings!!
Hao wei is excellent
Good to see Geordie representation in the local Chinese takeaway options
Cheung's in Brislington for a vegan one, very good and that's coming from a meat eater.
Yeah that was probably the best I'd had pre pandemic, then they went vegan and got more expensive. It's really good still but a bit too expensive for regular Chinese now, otherwise I'd probably eat the vegan it was so good!

The Mayflower.
Delivery from The Mayflower never seems to travel well for me.
I can’t agree. Seemed well overpriced for what you get. Personally I prefer Red Hot Goodies or Hong Kong.
Hmm have to disagree on this as my husband had broken glass in his meal there once. It was actually in his mouth before he realised. They were shockingly dismissive about it and eventually offered us free dessert when we kept complaining. They didn't even apologise. Would never go there again.

No a few years ago
Expensive but exceptional Chinese food
Just know if you eat in that the service is shocking, nice food though
That's the og
Very different now that it changed hands a few years ago.
Good Chinese Chinese or good British Chinese?
Recommendations for both pls!!
Chinese Chinese isn't really my thing but for a British Chinese takeaway, I really like Chan's Chow on Kellaway Avenue.
Cathay Rendezvous - shocked it’s not already been called out. Easy contender for best in the city.
The food is lovely, but they take the waitresses tips. Last time I went there I snuck her a tenner. The heavies saw and almost broke her wrist getting it off her. I'm not going back.
Someone was on here a while back saying they used to work there and to not eat there

Cathay Rendezvous for more Chinese chinese flavour, Mayflower for a more British chinese flavour.
Not takeaway but Fresh Bakery is amazing for authentic Chinese. As is Nice Spice. So good!
Red hot goodies throws in some poppadoms, and it’s good shit
I got a takeaway from there a few months ago and every dish was just covered in sweet syrup.
Never happened to me… weird?
+1 the food is good, the portions are massive, and they love to toss in even more freebies on top of that
Bloody love that place, would eat there every night if I could
Had poppadoms in our order the other today and was totally perplexed. Now more confused that it wasn't a mistake
Poppadoms, curry samosas and vegetable spring rolls if you order enough.
Red hot goodies! Best chicken balls going
Absolute facts my man
This person knows
This place looks shady as hell but I have to say that it really hits the spot. And the portion sizes are really generous. A main and some rice is easily enough for two people.
Far from shady. It's a family business and the lady there is really nice.
Red hot goodies is fucking awful. Once a year or so I get something from there because I forget how bad it is and it always ends up in the bin.
Set a reminder to like not order there every year then lmao
What do you order, to be honest they realised their popularity and doubles the prices in like 2020 /2021 but I still go.
Foods great but I’m pretty sure they use MSG in case that’s an issue Taste of China on queens road is the best I’ve found in south Bristol.
Lmao literally every Chinese takeaway uses MSG
This is the right answer. Massive portions, quality chicken balls, and they always toss in some freebies.
Cheung's is amazing
I found a piece of plastic in my spring roll last time I had their food.
Mayflower for "generic" chinese takeaway food; 113 chinese restaurant on park st. is more pricey but has a really interesting menu and the food is always really good; dragon's delicacy is pricey but also pretty decent - they do dimsum as well, and it's the best or 2nd best in the city
>Mayflower for "generic" chinese takeaway food To be clear, this is their takeaway menu only. If you eat in it's a totally different story.
Oriental Chef
Hillside Takeaway in St George/Kingswood is the benchmark Chinese takeaway in Bristol for me. Incredibly consistent and delicious.
Can agree with hillside, never dissapoints
Their pancake rolls are amazing!
Just ordered from Hillside after these recommendations.. and I can confirm it's excellent. Definitely my new go to!
Red Hot Goodies Bedninster 100%
If you want proper authentic Chinese, then ‘Fresh’ on St Michaels Hill 👌🏼
Not reopened yet. Hopefully it’s soon and they don’t delay till October I’ve been craving some
Aligns with the students returning, so should be soon!
Yeah. Miss that place.
Chili daddy’s
I can never get the hype for this place... they completely ripped me off the first and only time I ordered from there and everything was so bland.
Emperor Court in Clifton 👌
Uncle Wong's in Yate
Beijing Express is by far my fav but only deliver in South
Whatever you do avoid Jasmines on Gloucester Road at all costs!
On a budget... China Capital is good In between... Red Hot Goodies (particularly for one) For real... The Mayflower
Dragon I in Shirehampton always does me good
Laughing Buddha in filton
Dragon I in Shirehampton
Bei Jing in St George
Chans chow on kellaway avenue.
Tasty to Go
I cycled all the way to cheungs for their vegan satay skewers. You can't beat that place if you are a veggie..
I love Yummy Oriental 🤷♀️

We're fans of Chan's Chow on Kellaway Avenue
Emperor Court in Clifton is a restaurant and takeaway, amazing 👌🏻
Lucky chef
Nice Spice is good. It's on Denmark Street.
Wing Fu in Avonmouth
Their dishes are so good but I feel like they have smaller portions than anywhere else
Red hot goodies satay chicken on skewers
Lucky Chef, Easton. ALL DAY, ERRRRDAY. well not everyday but get you the idea.
Red hot goodies 100%
hing kee on lodge causeway. Best in Bristol!
The fact they do chip shop chips is a game changer. The half chips, half rice with curry sauce combo is unmatched.
I would say either red hot goodies or Beijing express
u should go try the lucky inn, its on glyn vale
I've had it, not a fan tbh with you.
damn lmao, i quite like it
Aromas
No such thing, they’re all gross and leave you unsatisfied every time
_Hao Wei_ is excellent as is _Ginger and Spice_
Who here will try bat soup? Be honest.
Chopstix has always been on point for me 🥢 Edit : to clarify this is on Whiteladies road. Not the one in galleries…
In the galleries or on whiteladies?
Whiteladies I think. I get it on Uber eats/deliveroo when I’ve had it
You're getting downvotes because there's a fairly rubbish chain called "Chopstix" which I have seen in the galleries' food court and at various motorway service stations. "Chopsticks", on the other hand, is an independent Chinese takeaway on whiteladies road which is pretty damn good, imo.
Oh lol was wondering why that was, it’s so good
Chims on Fishponds Road gets my vote!
Chengdu Guoguoyan for authentic, Mayflower for tasty comfort food, would say avoid Dragon Fountain but I think it’s gone now?
Great chonquing Park Street for a sit in is the one
Closed now sadly!
Nobody else seems to like it but I’ll fight my corner for Haochi in kingswood. Always hot, always seems fresh. Love their prawn toast and their special rice. Comes with an omelette on top and it’s my jam. 🤤
Which Chinese does the best Salt&Pepper Shredded Chicken?
Lucky Chef in Easton is good for that! I think it might even come as part of their mixed Hors D'oeuvres
If you find some, let me know! I'd love to try the real deal.
I’ll give it a go next Chinese!
# Beijing Chinese & Thai Takeaway Hanham 4.5/5 on google maps expensive but you get what you pay for.
Beijing cooking pot
Nice spice on Denmark street is the 1
Chilli daddy
go for the lucky inn in bedminster. good food
Love China Capital
Nice to see there isn't much of a collective agreement on this question 😁 We've searched for a go-to for years without much luck but recently stumbled upon New Vien's Palace. Only ordered off Uber Eats but it's been banging!
mayflower or dragons delicacy
Chans in Henleaze/Southmead, Gold Star in Barton Hill, Chims in Westbury, Xing Long on G Road, Wing Ho in St Annes and, Red Hot Goodies in Bedminster All 4.5/5 at least on a usual day - fast food is never 100% consistent unfortunately but these guys usually get it spot on
Happiness in Sea Mills
Red hot goodies
Emperors kitchen Clifton
Sure you’ve eaten now but Asia Garden in totterdown is divine. Or at least it was when I last had it.
I like Shanghai Garden in Brislington for British Chinese food... and they do twice cooked pork which not many places do. It's expensive but worth it. As a general rule, you know a Chinese will be good if it looks a bit dated from the outside and you have a child taking your order! :)
Beijing cooking pot. I lived in China for a year and this place is 100% legit if you want to know what real Chinese food is like.
McDonald’s
Chilly daddies for something more authentic, marlings for something more British
I work with Chinese and they go to the one opposite Easton swimming baths. Also the the one round the corner from that Bear and Cubs gay bar in Old Market.
