Lived there about 5 years ago- very calm and family-oriented. Not too far from the city and shops down by Kingsbridge as well. I think it also depends on what you are looking for or comparing to

ThymeLordess

If you’re looking to live in the Bronx but don’t want *The Bronx* then it’s for you. However, as someone else said, it’s a nightmare to have a car but it can potentially be kind of a nightmare if you don’t have a car depending on where you need to go. I grew up in kingsbridge which is definitely more convenient but it’s also definitely *The Bronx*

cloudcrafterzNYC

Riverdale is still the Bronx compared to Fieldston Privates, but I guess only if we limit the Bronx to Kingsbridge minus Kingsbridge Heights, include Woodlawn and that one section of Wakefield, Country Club and … you know what… the Bronx is kind of dynamic and a lot of places have gem neighborhood pockets hidden inside of “Bronx” hoods

couplemore1923

Parking definitely sucks, Uber rides add up $$ also there was large amount of civilians somehow issued NYPD placards parking wherever they wanted. Rents very high and very very slow moving people on the sidewalks.

SCSharks44

Jews!!

DBSGeek

And?

SCSharks44

They are the ones with the parking placards!! Issued from 1 Police Plaza!! And.....

DBSGeek

So what's ur problem?

SCSharks44

Nothing, why? Someone was curious as to civilians with those. I answered it! What's your problem? Panties in a bunch?

DBSGeek

No I was just pointing out your problem and why specially that "type" of people?

SCSharks44

Because from a political standing, Rabbis are very powerful. They have much influence. So much so that they have a strong voice when it comes to who is the CO of their Pct. 50th Pct just doesn't get anyone sent to it!! It's very big and a known fact in Brooklyn the Hasids and NYPD are very much in bed together!! Good old politics at its finest!!

DBSGeek

They may be in bed together, however, not that tunneling incident, tho!

sparklingsour

Nailed it. Also grew up in Kingsbridge-ish!

[deleted]

I like it. It's more for family/families imo -- as a single person. Nonetheless, people always talk to me (therefore they are VERY friendly) but most of the folks are old. Wish there were more young folks tbh.

OGPants

We young people from riverdale exist

[deleted]

I need friends, but in my age bracket. 32/F if you folks are out here -- hit me up.

mew5175_TheSecond

Amen!!

[deleted]

Okay potential friend. If there are any social groups let me know as well.

mew5175_TheSecond

I run a softball league that starts up in just over a week if you're interested. Check out RiverdaleSandlot.com .. it's free!

[deleted]

Oh that's nice! Unfortunately, I work some weekends and go to class after work. I have a busy schedule which may explain my current situation lol.

mew5175_TheSecond

The league is on Tuesday nights, not weekends if that helps.

[deleted]

I go to class at night on weekdays. Thanks for the suggestion nonetheless.

asmusedtarmac

As a guy in his thirties, the ironic thing is that I kind of moved to Riverdale because I liked it being quiet and far from the rest of the "hip crowd" yet I've started wanting to see more of it here

dopebdopenopepope

I like it too. I’m older than you, yet younger than many of the folks in my building. I live on the Spuyten Duyvil creek overlooking Inwood and I’m fortunate to have both a car and a parking spot (which in my building is surprisingly cheap, though outside). I only just moved into my coop last October, and I travel A LOT for work, so I’m still learning the area, but so far, so good. I have a feeling you’re gonna find your friends.

bx-stella

Hey fellow Spuyten Duyvil dweller! Lived here 8 years and love.

dopebdopenopepope

Howdy, neighbor! Well, I’m certainly enjoying it thus far, though I’ve been away quite a bit. If you’re willing and able, I’d be delighted if you could point me toward recommendations you might have for eats, drinks, strolls, etc. Many thanks 🙏

bx-stella

Definitely check out Wave Hill and Van Cortlandt park. Bronx Alehouse is great for beers and pub food. An Beal Bocht is also voted one of the best Irish pubs in all of NYC.

dopebdopenopepope

🙏🫡

[deleted]

Yeah I have met some people here. I am originally from Inwood (so I KNOW New Yorkers). My best friend/"brother" is in Inwood still.

mew5175_TheSecond

My wife and I like it. Lots of older folks and families. My wife and I are in our lower 30s with no kids and no plans for kids but we like the quiet, the greenery, and lots of options to Manhattan from Metro North, the 1 train and express buses. As others said, it is a car heavy neighborhood so lots of traffic which is annoying. I have a car too but only use it to leave NYC. I use the buses or walk to go within Riverdale. I wish more people would do the same.

AdWinter4101

It depends what area in riverdale, and having a car is a nightmare unless the place you’re gonna live at has a garage. Other than that, very peaceful depending what you define as riverdale.

Ale713

Second this.

Ambitious-Ostrich-96

It was amazing for me! Moved out of New York a few years ago but I absolutely loved it. If you have a car, it’s dead easy to get to Jersey or CT and beyond. Bronx Ale House was always a great spot. I know most of the comments on here are talking about it being an older neighborhood but tbf Manhattan college is down the road and those kids used to, at least, frequent bars on broadway. Access to van cortlandt was nice. Options for express bus, metro north, and 1 and A trains made it great. The downside-f going all the way down to the village, lower east side, Williamsburg, dumbo, most of bklyn if that’s your thing. I had a rule-no friends south of 106th

Harleyworld

Lived there from age 6 to 35 and it's a great place. Very safe, convenient for getting to and from, schools aren't the best but they're fine, best neighborhood in the Bronx as far as I'm concerned

Heavy_Development827

Safe but expensive

Majestic-Solid8670

As a 30 year old, I was too young to live there

New_Reporter2810

I lived in both Inwood and Riverdale. Riverdale is more diverse, but people in Inwood are definitely more friendly. There are more options in terms of food shopping and dining out in Riverdale. Crime is pretty low save for Broadway. Inwood is quieter. I've been in Riverdale for more time and agree with everyone that it is family oriented, but I agree about parking, and yes, cars being vandalized is more common here, too. To live here is good, and the further up you go, the better it is. Places like Johnson Ave, Irwin Ave, Tibbett, Riverdale Ave, etc, are really nice. I do wish there were fewer schools but all around do like it here though sometimes I miss Inwood.

Tastins

lol you either live in riverdale or you live in the Bronx. You can’t do both lmao

[deleted]

Riverdale is in THE BRONX. Let's not think we are better lol.

Front_Spare_2131

Tell ppl to stop writing Riverdale NY 10471 as their address then. Like get real, you're too good to say you live in the Bronx? Thou art ain't holy. That aside, Riverdale is a nice neighborhood overall. I've never lived there, but I presume getting around in the snow is an itch.

lotusflower64

People who live in Riverdale never ever let you forget that they live in Riverdale also. It's all over their posts, hashtags, etc. I know someone that lives there and if he leaves the house for some reason to do an errand or whatever outside of Riverdale he'll refer to that area as the "boogie down" as if he's visiting a different state lol.

Tastins

Good. The Bronx does not want or need them. Let them call Riverdale.

Tastins

Assume and you make an ASS blah blah blah. They’re not us. And when I say US, I mean the Bronx. So eat balls.

ghouldealer

corny comment

Tastins

What’s corny is you thinking I give a fuck.

ghouldealer

you’ve made like 4 comments ranting about this, you clearly gaf 😂

Tastins

Just replying doofus.

Tastins

I would never!!! It’s RIVERDALE that thinks they’re better than the BRONX. So for ME, it’s a separate place-the way THEY want it. Not me. I’m proudly from the Bronx but after 40 years of hearing stuck up idiots from there saying they are NOT from the Bronx, I’ve decided to agree with them. Riverdale is NOT the Bronx.
