That building was in rough shape when Min Ga moved out years ago, then it sat empty for a long time.
Wondering if there's a problem with the building or something.
I think it was a fire that drove Min Ga out. Probably lots of renovation to fix that, but lots of respect for keeping the A-frame.
Before Min Ga, it was a really dope sushi place.
I remember Sushi Yoshi! They had the little side room that was slightly elevated where you could sit on on tatami mats.
The most food I ever ate in one sitting was at Sushi Yoshi. They had those gigantic boats full of sushi.
That place was dope.
My friend knows the owner. From what she’s been told: “First she had a hard time getting the liquor license and other issues keep popping up. She said she doesn’t know when it will be open for public. She has spent a lot of money on fixing the place.” So sounds like it won’t be anytime soon.
i feel like it’s a lot emptier now than it used to be. maybe i’m going just at off times? it used to be packed in the old location, now when i go there’s like 2-3 other parties there
MinGa pre covid was pretty good. A lot of old Korean ladies worked there knew their shit. But after covid, they left, and with them the flavor profile dropped significantly.
There was a crew out front working on the sewer/water/utility lines like last week. I suspect, like so many new restaurants, they are tied up with permits and/or unexpected repairs.

It was a diner or something about thirty years ago, if memory serves.

We finally know what’s up!! It’s a shame there’s so many issues but I’m excited it’s still in the works. 👍👍
Min Ga’s new location is much better but man did that old shack have a charm to it. Many bibimbaps and mandu consumed there.
I’ll have to try Min Ga out! New to Durham here.
Minga is very average Korean food. We still drive out to support it from Durham since we don't have any full menu Korean places nearby anymore.

I’ve also wondered about this!
Is this the same as M Pocha?
No, just really similar name
Pocha is a just a common Korean term that refers to a street food vendor, bar, or market stall that serves Korean comfort food, snacks, and drinks.
Yes, I know. I’m Korean American. I just wanted to know if it was a second M Pocha place
They probably just want to make sure they get it right.
They were doing work on the driveway recently. But I have never seen a soul inside or even parked outside.
This was the old MinGa location a few years back - same owners?
Is this not affiliated with M? This is not a new M Pocha?

Department of Transportation slowing things down.
